Thomas "Tom" Steinberg, 64, of 1322 North Jefferson in New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at his home.
Private family service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Arrangements are being handled by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Tom is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Steinberg of New Ulm; his mother Neota and her husband Roman Fehlman of New Ulm; daugher Michelle and her husband Jack Dummann of Glendale, Ariz.; son Michael Steinberg and his friend, Ryan Varie both of Boise, Idaho; two grandchildren, Jessica and Kelsey; a sister, Karen Hull and her friend Stephen Sepan, both of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Leona Baumann, Violet and Jerome Riege, Lillian and Fritz Riege, and Robert and Joyce Krueger all of Waterloo, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his father August Steinberg, brother James Steinberg; and sister, Lynn Steinberg.
Tom was born Jan. 30, 1937, in Mankato, to August and Neota (Watermann) Steinberg. He attended grade school at the St. Pauls Lutheran School in New Ulm and graduated from the New Ulm Public High School class of 1954.
On July 8, 1961, he was united in marriage to Barbara Krueger in Waterloo, Wis. After marriage they lived in New Ulm, where for several years he was a baker at the Weneeda Bakery, which was owned by Tom's father. He worked there until it closed in the mid 1960s. He was currently employed as a custodian with District #88 Schools working at Washington School in New Ulm. He was a member of the St.John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Helmut (Herb) Diel, 73, of Madelia died Wednesday at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Visitaion will be Sunday 4 -7 p.m. at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia, and also one hour prior to funeral services at St. John's Lutheran Church in Willow Creek, Monday. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church, with burial at St. John's North Cemetery.

Gertrude Amelia Reynolds was born June 17, 1905 in Northfield, Minnesota to Nels and Anna (Sorbu) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church and attended Northfield schools. She married Roscoe W. Reynolds on July 16, 1932 in Faribault. Roscoe passed away in 1935. Gertrude remained in Northfield to raise their daughter, Donna. She worked at the Ideal Cafe for over 30 years. In 1971 she moved to Kenyon, and in 1999 moved to Mankato. She enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, needle point, and her family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard Werdahl of New Ulm; 2 grandchildren: Cheryl and husband Greg Olson of Shafer, Scott and wife Kari of Chaska; 4 great-grandchildren: Brennan and Brooks Olson and Eric and Marin Werdahl; her sister, Nora English of Santa Anna, California; and 2 nieces: Sharon Ann Nelson of Chicago and Nancy Coates of Tustin, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her grandson, Steven; her sister, Grace; and three brothers: Deno, Oliver, and Iver "Ted."
Gertrude passed away Thursday morning, January 10, 2002 at the Mankato Lutheran Home, with her daughter and son-in-law by her side, at the age of 96.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2002 at Benson Funeral Home in Northfield with Rev. Guy Redfield of 1st Lutheran Church in Kenyon officiating. Music will be provided by Scott and Kari Werdahl. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Northfield, at a later date.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are with Benson Funeral Home, Northfield.

JoAnn Darlene Krogstad, 82, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at her home.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Belview, with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, rural Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and one hour prior to services at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Roger Clayton Krogstad, of Redwood Falls; son Troy Krogstad of Marshall; two grandchildren; and sisters Viola Mell and Myrt Overboy, both of Redwood Falls, and Florence Annis of Granite Falls.
She was born April 21, 1939, in Vesta, the daughter of Walter and Clara (Froelich) Lehmkuhl.

Alice McFarland, 91, of Fairfax, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at the Fairfax Community Nursing Home.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Franklin, with burial in Birch Coulee Cemetery, Franklin.
Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax and one hour prior to services at the church.
A prayer service is 7 p.m. Sunday night at Hauser Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.

Marion C. Jacques, 80 of Prior Lake, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Prior Lake, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Ballard Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake, and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth of Brookfield, Wis., Douglas of St. Cloud, Leo of St. Patrick, who is the plant manager for AMPI in New Ulm, and James of Farmington; daughters, Virginia Schumann of Belgrade, Marion of Prior Lake and Kathleen of St. Patrick.
She was born April 26, 1921 in St. Cloud to Henry J. and Mary C. (Mather) Stans.

Dr. Girolamo Mustazza, 40, of St. James died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in St. James.
Mass of Christian burial will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Services will also be held at the San Eusepio Church in Piazza Vittoria Square, in Rome, Italy. Burial will be in the Prima Porta Cemetery in Rome.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his parents, Giovanni and Cecilia (Zaza) Mustazza.
He was born July 31, 1961, in Molfetaa, Italy.

Oscar B. Reinhart, 101, of Franklin, formerly of Courtland, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, is the Franklin Healthcare Center.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling arrangements.
He was born Jan. 16, 1901, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County, to Nicholas and Victoria (Gulden) Reinhart.

Delford Wendlandt, 78, of Brownton, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Penn Township with burial in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 8-9 a.m. Monday at the Hantge Funeral Chapel in Brownton and also one hour prior to the service.

Leona Zeig, 92, formerly of New Ulm died Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mother's Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral. The St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., both Monday evening at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Delmar Haala of Sleepy Eye; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Alize Zeig, Leo and Linda Zeig, and Larry and Marlys Zeig, all of New Ulm; 23 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; a sister, Savera Brey of New Ulm; and a sister-in-law, Lois Roberts of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph J. Zeig on May 5, 1989; brothers, Willard Seifert and Harold Seifert; and a sister-in-law, Florence Seifert.
Leona was born on May 22, 1909 in Sigel Township, Brown County to Frank H. and Mary (Domeier) Seifert. She married Joseph J. Zeig on October 5, 1927 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County until 1973 when they moved into New Ulm. She had worked for five years in the laundry at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, a member of the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council and the Christian Mother's Society.

Richard J. Bast, 81, of Springfield, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at the Springfield Medical Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Springfield, with burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Springfield
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Sophie Bast of Springfield; sons, Keith Bast of Mesa, Ariz., Kenneth Bast of Springfield, and Kelvin Bast of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; step-children, Steve Engel of Apple Valley, and Diane Engel of Willmar; and a brother, Donald Bast of New London.
He was born March 10,1920 in Brookville Township, Redwood County, to Fred and Elsie (Boettger) Bast.

Robert L. Christiansen, 76, of Middlesbury, Ind., died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart, Ind.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Middlebury, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in New Ulm later this spring.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury is handing arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice; a daughter, Carol Reavis of Stillwater, Okla.; a son, Steve Olson of Louisville, Ken.; five grandchildren; and a brother Ervin Christiansen of New Ulm.
He was born Jun 11, 1925, in New Ulm to Fred and Grace (Halverson) Christiansen. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Diana Jobe, 65, of Mankato, formerly of Madelia, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at the Mankato Lutheran Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Belgrade United Methodist Church, North Mankato, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia.
She is survived by sons, Rich Forseth and Terry Jobe, and a brother, Wayne Forseth of New Ulm.
She was born Oct. 23, 1936, to Jacob and Evelyn (Miller) Forseth.

Edward "Ed" Maday, 85, of New Ulm died Saturday, January 19, 2002 at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and will continue from 7:30 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Patrick's Council Knights of Columbus #1076 will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Monday at the funeral home.
Ed is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Thomas Arnold II of Tuetopolis, Ill.; sons, Gilbert Maday of Elk River and Dennis Maday of New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law Paul and Vicki Maday of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Herman Maday and his special friend, Dorothy Dontje, both from Fairmont. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Teresa in 1967; and sisters, Irene Boza and Esther Polten.
Ed was born March 21, 1916 in East Chain to John and Martha (Sigman) Maday. In 1934 he graduated from the East Chain High School. He married Teresa Beckstrom on Aug. 20, 1940 in Fairmont. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. After his military service he returned to New Ulm where he started a car dealership calling it Midway Motors. In 1954 he moved his car business to South Broadway and renamed it "Maday Motors". In 1997 he retired and sold the business to his sons. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, a member, and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Roger D. Nielsen, 73, of Mesa, Ariz. died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Valley Lutheran Hospital, Mesa.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Philipson) Nielsen of Mesa; daughters, Christie Melzer of New Ulm, Kimberly A. Nielsen of Mankato; Laurie Becker of Hanover, and Kari Jones of Knoxville, Tenn; 11 grandchildren, and a brother, David J. Nielsen of Pine River.
He was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Minneapolis. He had been retired for six years after 15 years with Roger's Promotions in Redwood Falls; eight years with the A&W Restaurant, also in Redwood Falls; 18 years at Manderfeld-Nielsen Lumber Yard in New Ulm, and five years in retail clothing sales and management in Mankato and Albert Lea.
Roger was active in the Lions International, Zurah Shrine, and a number of local business organizations, and was president of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm during the planning and building of Our Savior's in its present location.
Arrangements are being handled by Mesa Funeral Care in Mesa, Ariz.

Mathilda Windschitl, 90, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Hospital, Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednes-day, Jan. 23, 2002 at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, with Father Brian Oestreich presiding. Interment will be in the Church of the Japanese Martyrs Cemetery in Leavenworth.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and on Wednesday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth.
There will be a Parish Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and a Parish Rosary at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Casketbearers are Dan Wersal, Clem Windschitl, Gary Windschitl, Leon Windschitl, Rick Windschitl and Roman Windschitl.
She is survived by her children: Marvin and wife Esther Windschitl of Comfrey; Walter and wife Margaret Windschitl of Sleepy Eye; Phyllis Wersal of Springfield, Doris Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, and Gladys and husband Jerry Roman of Hutchinson; 15 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a brother, Norbert and wife Sylvia Sellner of Comfrey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Michael in 1971; an infant son; a son-in-law, George Wersal; a great grandchild, Patrick Wenisch; brothers, Hubert, Sylvester, Peter, Aloysius, and Raymond; and two sisters, Josephine, and Gertrude.
Mathilda Windschitl was born Aug. 26, 1911 in Mulligan Township to Joseph and Christina Hillescheim) Sellner. She attended country school and St. Mary's School. Mathilda grew up southeast of Leavenworth. On Sept. 5, 1933 she married Michael Windschitl in Leavenworth. They made their home in Mulligan Township on Michael's home farm. Mathilda was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, Catholic Aid, Christian Mothers, and a former member of the CCW. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing patch quilts, gardening and working with flowers.

Peter Kemmerer, 86, of Hector, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector with burial in the church cemetary.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and will continue one hour before the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Kemmerer, of Hector; son Joseph of Woodbury; daughter Ann Marie Leske of Buffalo Lake; sister, Katherine Frese of Richmond, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was born on June 17, 1915, to Casper and Katherine Kemmerer in Baltimore, Md.
