Darlene Bloom, 57, of Fairfax, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Granite Falls with burial in the Granite Falls City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Monday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home, Sacred Heart and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin of Fairfax.
She was born March 8, 1944, in Walker to Clifford and Verla (Tatro) Parks.

Winifred 'Winnie' Brandel, 86, of 1001 N. Garden St. in New Ulm and formerly of St. George died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. George Catholic Church in St. George with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Wednesday. The Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Cecelia Court No. 420 will pray the rosary at 6 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. both Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Winnie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marcheta and James Hays of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Marilyn (Habeck) Brandel of Fairfax, James and Denise (Schweiss) Brandel of Luverne, Steven and Delores (Jones) Brandel of Mahtomedi, and Donald and Bonita (Wenninger) Brandel of Shakopee; 15 grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Colleen (Brown) Brandel of Wayzata; sisters and brother-in-law, Justina (Jessie) Palmer of Brainerd, and CalVerna and Eldor Wilfahrt of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sylvester and Helen Volz of Richfield, and Robert and Jean Volz of Portland, Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johannes and Hellana (Walser) Volz; her husband, Norbert Brandel on Feb. 25, 1996; a son, Robert Brandel; granddaughter, Amanda Brandel; and brothers, Anton, Matthias, Andrew, Lawrence, George, Linus and Frederick Volz; and a sister, Flavianna Volz.
Winnie was born Feb. 11, 1915, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County to Johannes (John) and Hellana (Walser) Volz. She attended the St. George Catholic School in St. George. She worked as a housekeeper for New Ulm area families and for the New Ulm Catholic parish house. On June 8, 1943, she married Norbert Brandel at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George. After marriage they farmed in the Fairfax area until 1950 at which time they moved to the Volz homestead farm in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, where they farmed until retiring to St. George in 1979. Winifred moved to Garden Terrace apartments in 1997 where she currently resided. For many years when she lived in St. George she provided and arranged flowers, many from her own garden, for the altar and grotto at St. George Catholic Church. She enjoyed baking, canning, vegetable and flower gardening, embroidery and was very proud of the quilts and loomed rugs she made for her family. She enjoyed playing the mandolin and piano. She always loved the time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren and other family members and friends.
She was a member of the St. George Catholic Church in St. George, the Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Cecelia Court No. 420, where she was the recording secretary for 32 years.

William 'Bill' Gronholz, 74, of rural Nicollet died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet. There will be a parish rosary at 7:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Gronholz of rural Nicollet; and by a brother, Robert "Bob" of rural Nicollet.
He was born March 17, 1927, in Prairieville Township, Brown County, to William and Anna (Hass) Gronholz.

Harold Hanson, 72, of 715 S. German St., New Ulm died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at his home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in the Soldier's Rest section.
Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Harold is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Ann and Scott Bieganek of Chanhassen, Nancy Dehn of Plano, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Pat Hanson of Norwood, David and Lori Hanson of Lakeville, Paul and Kelly Hanson of North Mankato; nine grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Pederson of Fargo, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1929, in Starbuck to Theodore and Mabel (Rasmussen) Hanson.
He served in the Korean War in 1950 - 1951. He worked as an Assistant County Engineer for Brown County for 39 years and retired in 1995.
He was a member of the Albert Nagel V.F.W. Post 1648 and the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 132 both in New Ulm. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Leo F. Lehar, 69, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
A Knights of Columbus rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation is Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived his wife Sylvia Moran; children, Mike and his wife Norine Lehar of Tucson, Ariz.; Katie and husband Scott Pearce of Folsom, Calif., Jim and wife Inabell Lehar of Rock Springs, Wyo., Glenn Lehar of Rock Springs, Wyo., Kevin and wife Dee Lehar of Hanford, Calif., Kenneth and wife Sally Lehar of Salinas, Calif., and Jeff and wife Tommijo Lehar of San Miguel, Calif.; stepchildren, Kathy and husband Chuck Spaeth of Sleepy Eye, Jane and husband Jeff Cook of Sleepy Eye, Marybeth and husband George Heim of Burnsville, Sheila LaPlant of Grand Rapids, Bill and wife Judy Moran of Minnetonka; brothers and sisters, John and wife Barb Lehar, Helen Lehar, Charles Lehar, and Pat and wife Peggy Lehar, all of Fairfax; brother-in-law, Bob Miller of Mankato; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 13 stepgrandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Lehar; sisters, Ruth Miller and Rosemary Miller; a sister-in-law, Betty Lehar; and a stepson-in-law, Marcus LaPlant.
Leo Francis Lehar was born March 18, 1932 in Cairo Township, Renville County; to Harry and Felicitas (Palmer) Lehar. He attended St. Andrew's School and graduated from Fairfax High School. He entered the U.S. Army and received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He lived in Fairfax, Douglas, Ariz.; King City, Calif.; and Sleepy Eye. He received the Silver Beaver Boy Scouts of America Award and was a Scout Master for 25 years. Leo married Sylvia Moran on July 2, 1993. He enjoyed team roping, fishing, camping, square dance calling, and gardening.
Memorials are preferred to the Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society, and American Lung Association.

Robert W. Wenner, 85, of Mankato, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Mapleton.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before the services Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Health Care Center Nurses Scholarship Fund.

Christine A. Peichel, 91, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in the St. George Catholic Cemetery in St. George at a later date.
Visitation is 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Arrangements are with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home.
She is survived by her sisters, Agnes Schnobrich of Sleepy Eye, and Amelia Jackson of St. Paul; brothers, Albert Peichel of rural Fairfax, and Larry Peichel of Sleepy Eye.
She was born May 20, 1910, in Ridgely Township, Nicollet County, to John and Anna (Wurmstein) Peichel.

Robert W. Wenner, 85, of Mankato, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Mankato, with burial to follow at in the Calvary Cemetery in Mapleton.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato, and will continue one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
He is survived by his sons, Bernie of Sleepy Eye, Harry of Minnetonka, Stan of St. Peter, Gerry of Shoreview, and Mark of North Mankato; daughter Rita of Burnsville; brother, Leland of Odin; sisters, Joan Bunde of Camarillo, Calif., and Elaine James of Mankato; and six grandchildren.
He was born Aug. 14, 1916, in LeRay Township, Blue Earth County, to Harry J. and Rose (Bruels) Wenner. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941, and served in New Guina, the Dutch East Indies and Australia.

Geraldine Ritzenthaler, 91, of Springfield, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Springfield United Methodist Church in Springfield, with burial to follow at the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home.
She is survived by her daughter Anne Hawkins of Waconia; son Stephan Ritzenthaler of Lake City; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was born on Feb. 10, 1910, in Springfield to George and Augusta (Anderson) Bockman.

Dorothy Meyer, 79, of Gibbon, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Arnold P. Meyer, a resident of the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax; daughters and son-in-law, Laurie and Jeff Bielke, and Jody Wieland all of New Ulm; sons, James Meyer of Gibbon, Lonnie Meyer and his special friend Terri Harder, both of Gibbon, and Russell Meyer and his wife Lisa of Gibbon; 16 grandchildren; sisters, Irma Jannicke of Anoka, and Verna Grewe of Gibbon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roland Meyer of Gibbon, Erna Meyer, a resident of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop, Marvin Ahlbrecht of Gibbon, and Earl Buerkle of St. Paul.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Louella Effenberger, Myrtle Ahlbrecht, Melba Buerkle, and Mildred Sell; and a grandson, John Meyer.
She was born on May 24, 1922, in Wellington Township, Renville County, to Theodore and Blondena (Kiecker) Sell. She married Arnold P. Meyer on Sept. 3, 1950, in Fairfax. After marriage they farmed in Moltke Township, Sibley County. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County.

Carol Melzark, 75, of Fontana, Calif., and formerly of New Ulm, died Jan. 28, 2002, in Fontana.
Services were held in Fontana on Feb. 4.
New Ulm services will be held in several weeks.
Firle Funeral Home of New Ulm is handling arrangements.

Lillian Pischke, 87, of New Auburn, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Cedar Crest in Hutchinson.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn with burial in High Island Cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the services at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.

Nelson C. Anderson, 91, of rural Storden, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Storden with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
The Westbrook Cemetery is handling arrangements.

John Bauer, 86, of Sleepy Eye died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with Fr. Ed Ardolf performing the service, and with burial to follow at Veterans Memorial Garden in Home Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, and 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a K.C. and C.O.F. rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both at the funeral home on Thursday.
He is survived by his wife Hazel Bauer of Sleepy Eye; son Mike Bauer of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Kathy and husband Glen Turbes of Willmar, and Mary Jo and husband Dale Evers of Sleepy Eye; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Louise Bauer of New Ulm, Carol Bartles of Crosby, Helen Radde of Watertown, and Jeanne and husband Hooch Hansen of Sleepy Eye; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded In death by his parents; brothers, Alfred and George; granddaughter, Mary Marie Bauer; sisters-in-law, Carla Bauer, June Mock and Pearl Lindeman; brothers-in-law, Elmer Bartles, Fred W. Radde, Joe Mock and Martin Lindeman.
John was born Aug. 8, 1915, in New Ulm, the son of John and Mary (Guldan) Bauer. He graduated from New Ulm Public School in New Ulm. John married Hazel Picker on Oct. 26, 1938, at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Glencoe. He owned and operated Sleepy Eye Greenhouse for 41 years until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid bowler and musician. John was a member of the Sleepy Eye Drum and Bugle Corps for 21 years, New Ulm German Band, Schells Hobo Band and New Ulm Greenhouse Boys Band. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Hawaii. He blew taps for 395 military services with the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters, life long member of VFW Post 800 and American Legion Post 7, member of Sleepy Eye Lions Club and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Corinne Swanson, 75, of St. James, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at St. James Health Services Hospital in St. James.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, and at the church one hour prior to the services.
She is survived by a daughter, Leanne of Chanhassen; a stepson, Richard Swanson of St. James; stepdaughters, Marian Hoppe of St. James, Kathryn Bricks of Vernon, Conn., and Myrna Seaman of Apple Valley; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was born Feb. 9, 1926, in St. Paul to William and Frieda (Boldt) Barkley in St. Paul.

Patricia A. "Pat" Gaasch, 71, of Morton, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Catholic Church, Morton, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Morton.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
She is survived by her husband, John of Morton; sons, Edward Gaasch of Morton and William Gaasch of Houston, Texas; daughters, Linda U'Ren of Willmar, Gloria Thorson of Crystal; Connie Higgins of Waco, Texas; and Karen Kline of Eden Prairie; and 10 grandchildren.
He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Milbank, S.D. to Marlton and Lois (McKernan) Koch.
