Donald Pizel, 85, of Hanska, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Hanska, with burial in the Hanska Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hanska.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Firle Funeral Home, Hanska, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Stella, of Madelia; sons, Ronald Pizel of New Ulm, Warren Pizel of Hanska, and Kenneth Pizel of Owatonna; daughters, Annette Larson of Hanska and Carolyn Lastine of Hanska; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
He was born Oct. 6, 1916, in Dysart, Iowa, to Charles and Johanna (Tobiason) Pizel.

Joseph Pleniger, 89, of 407 N. Franklin St., New Ulm, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Full graveside military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations and the New Ulm Battery.
Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
He was born March 12, 1912, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to John and Mary (Schnobrich) Pleniger.
He served in the United States Army in 1942 - 1945.

Jennie K. Tauer, 92, a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye and formerly of the Realife Apartments in New Ulm, died on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral, and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Jennie is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis and Lee Brandt of rural New Ulm, Carol and Les Fluegge of New Ulm, and Peg Tauer of Aptos, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mamie (Mary) Waibel of New Ulm; brothers, Louis Stadick and John Stadick, residents of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center, Theodore Stadick and Benno Stadick of New Ulm, and Leo Stadick of Downers Grove, Ill.; also by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph W. Tauer in 1968; a son in infancy; sister, Caroline Stadick; brothers, Herman Stadick in 1994 and Conrad Stadick in 2001; and a son-in-law, Robert Hoffman in 1970.
Jennie was born July 22, 1909, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to John T. and Emilia (Janni) Stadick. She attended District No. 68 Country School in Sigel Township, Brown County. On Oct. 16, 1934 she married Joseph W. Tauer at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. After marriage they farmed on the home place in Sigel Township, Brown County, until 1968. After the death of her husband, she moved into New Ulm where she was very active in quilting at the parish center, also weekly quilting at her home with ladies coming to help. She also taught sewing to the 4-H groups in Sigel Township, Brown County, as well as entering and winning baking contests. She enjoyed square dancing, bowling, bingo and playing cards. Jennie had been a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye since 1996.
The family prefers memorials to the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye or to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the Christian Mothers Society.

John 'Jack' Harens, 60, of Henderson, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Jessenland Township, Sibley County, with burial in the church cemetery with military honors.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and one hour before the services Saturday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Henderson; daughters, Renee Garfunkel of Norwood/YoungAmerican, Barb Telthoester of Henderson; sons, Bruce Harens of Mankato; sisters, Mary Riley of Liberty, Mo., Carol Voigt of Glencoe, Sharon Shepherd of Eagle River, Alaska, and Eunice Johnson of Savage; and seven grandchildren.

John Harens, 60, of Henderson, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at his home.

He was born March 20, 1941, in Fargo, N.D. to John and Eleanor (Titus) Harens. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 30, 1961 to Nov. 28, 1964.

Beverly Macik, 68, of Hector, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 at Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Cosmos, with burial in Lake Lillian Community Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday.
She is survived by daughters, Liela Garberich of Lake Lillian, Shirley Berger of Fairfax, Nancy McNamara of Bird Island, Marilyn Serbus of Willmar, Pamela Larson of Hector, and Bonnie Ahlbrecht of Hector; 17 grandchildren; brothers, Ilert Anderson of Cosmos, and Ned Anderson of Hector; and sisters, Faith Nelson of Grove City, and LuRae Thomas of Cosmos.
She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in East Lake Lillian Township, Kandiyohi County, to Clarence and Lillian (Olson) Anderson.

Edwin A. Moldan, 76, of rural Comfrey, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the Springfield Medical Center in Springfield.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by brothers, William Moldan of New Ulm, Florian and wife Dorothy Moldan of Sleepy Eye, and Joe and wife Dodie Moldan of Hanska, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary; a brother-in-law, Valerian Woratschka; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Moldan, and nephews, Brian Woratschka and Doug Moldan.
Edwin was born Jan. 22, 1926 in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to George and Mary (Sellner) Moldan. He attended District 46 country school, and also spent two years at St. Mary's School in Sleepy Eye. Edwin lived on and operated the family farm his entire life. He enjoyed his dairy herd, hunting, fishing, playing cards, old time music and his dog, Puppy. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. Edwin was also a member of the Catholic Aid Association.

Raymond J. Hoffmann, 71, of 20424 Grandview Rd., rural New Ulm, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m.. Tuesday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full graveside military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
He is survived by his sister, Angeline Kral of Sleepy Eye; and brother, Frank Hoffmann Jr. of rural New Ulm.
He was born April 13, 1930, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to Frank Sr. and Agnes (Scheffler) Hoffmann. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1953 to November 1954.

Ferdinand Krenz, 79, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan, with burial to follow at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Visitation will be 3 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and will also continue one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church in Evan. Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society, Sleepy Eye Hospital and the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan.
Ferd was born July 28, 1922, in Prairieville Township, Brown County, MN, the son of Ferdinand and Bertha (Utecht) Krenz. He attended School District #29 and Reisch School of Auctioneering in 1946. He served the community as an auctioneer for over 55 years. On Sept. 14, 1946, Ferd married Betty Adams at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan, MN. Ferd was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and held office in the church council. He was a former member of the board of directors for the Brown County REA. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions and Eagles clubs. Ferd enjoyed fishing, card playing, hunting, farming, being with his grandchildren, joking and story telling. In recent years he enjoyed helping his grandsons raise and sell sweet corn.
Ferd is survived by his wife Betty of Sleepy Eye; They were blessed with seven sons, Pat (Michele), Larry (Kathy), Keith (Lynette), Mark (Chandra), Lynn (Joyce), Rick (Patti) all of Sleepy Eye, Ken (Jan) of Morgan; They have 20 grandchildren, Elise, Stuart, Jeremy, Jeffery, George, Jason, Christopher, Jamie (Craig Lothert), Kristi, Scott, David, Holly, Nicole, Amanda, Ashley, Ariel, Amy, Kyle, Josh and Dan; one great grandchild Marcus Lang; sisters, Hildegard Meinert and Arlene (Milo) Christensen, Sr., both of Morgan; sister-in-law, Helen Krenz of Mora; and brothers-in-law George Lochner of Sleepy Eye, Jerry (Georgia) Adams of Hudson, Wis. Also many cousins, nieces and nephews that share the sorrow of Ferd's passing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Lochner and Verna Krenz; brothers, Arthur in infancy, Alfred, and Elroy; sister-in-law Hazel and a brother-in-law Ray Meinert.

Duane G. Johnson, 52, of River Falls, Wis., formerly of Lafayette, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 of an apparent heart attack in Hudson, Wis.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Cemetery in Lafayette.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home on Sunday.
Duane is survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and John Arlandson of rural Lafayette, Denise and Marvin Gulden of Eau Claire, Wis.; a brother, Larry J. Johnson of Bullhead City, Ariz.; nieces, Dawn Schwab and her husband, Chris, Sara Gulden, and Kristin Gulden; nephews, John R. Arlandson and his wife, Martha, Christopher R. Arlandson and his wife, Rachel, and Scott D. Arlandson; grandniece and grandnephews, Ryan, Grace and Jacob Arlandson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1949, in New Ulm to Roy Al and Geraldine (Swenson) Johnson. He graduated from New Ulm High School and later he graduated from Mankato Business College in Mankato. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for 18 years at A.M.P.I. in New Ulm and Paynesville. He then worked for 9 years in a chemical dependency treatment center in River Falls, Wis. Duane was currently attending Century College in White Bear Lake.

Stephen P. Inglis, 83, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at the Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls, with burial at the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m. today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Arrangements are with the Nelson Martin Funeral Service.
He is survived by sons, Dr. Stephen Inglis of Wayzata, Dr. James Inglis of Minnetrista, and Dr. Thomas Inglis of Hutchinson; daugther Marcia Inglis Gerhardsson of Orebro, Sweeden; and nine grandchildren.
he was born April 30, 1918, in Redwood Falls, to James and Gertrude (Hicks) Inglis. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1942-1945.

Ruphine Ida Schauer, 82, of Arlington, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe.
Services are 3 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Green Isle Township, rural Green Isle, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be at 1 - 3 p.m. today at the church. Arrangements are with the Kolden Funeral Home of Arlington.
She is survived by her daughter Janet Schwartz of Arlington; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
She was born Jan. 12, 1920, in New Auburn Township, to Rudolph and Lena (Hardel) Stock.

Izola Miller, 90, of Stewartville, Minn., formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday morning, Feb. 10, 2002, at the Stewartville Care Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with burial to follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m, Tuesday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm and one hour prior to services at the church. Orient Chapter No. 60 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Izola Rosamond Daugherty, the daughter of Asa H. and Mamie (Shanholtz) Daugherty, was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Chicago, Illinois. As a child, she moved with her family to the Rapidan area and later Madelia, where she graduated from Madelia High School. She was united in marriage to Oliver R. Miller on Aug. 18, 1940, at Madelia. Following their marriage, they lived in Madelia, moving to Springfield in 1950, and to Sleepy Eye in 1960. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Sleepy Eye Hospital for several years, and she also began studying nursing at the former Union Hospital in New Ulm. The couple moved to New Ulm in the early 1970s where she worked as a nurse at Union Hospital for ten years. She and her husband spent many winters in New Mexico. Following her husband's death in 1990, she continued to make her home in New Ulm until moving to Stewartville in June of 1999, to be near her daughter. She became a resident of the Stewartville Care Center in September 2001. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of New Ulm; Orient Chapter No. 60 Order of the Eastern Star of New Ulm and had served as chaplain; Past Worthy Matron and member of the Ionic Chapter of the Eastern Star of Springfield, and a member of the Robert Taper Rebekah Lodge No. 29 of Bayard, N.M.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Moore and her husband Terry of Stewartville; two granddaughters, Susan Clocksin and her husband Art of Rochester, N.Y., Gail Koch and her husband Jason of Eagle Lake; sister-in-law, Elinor Daugherty of New Ulm; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Asa and Eldridge Daugherty, and a sister Pearl Chase.

Colleen Marie Quast, 59, of Janesville, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, from heart complications.
The funeral mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday St. Ann's Catholic Church in Janesville.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today at Arnoldt-McRaith Funeral Home in Janesville, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.; and continues one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Burton; children, Charles Quast, Bernadette Sack, Collette Lynch, Brigitte Strauss, Bruce Quast, Curt Quast, Don Quast, Allen Quast, Mark Quast, Tim Quast, Dan Quast, Annette Quast, all of Janesville; 12 grandchildren; mother, Rosa Pietig of Sleepy Eye; brothers, David Pietig of Sleepy Eye, and Perry Pietig of Sleepy Eye; sisters, DeeAnn Gieseke of Springfield, and Pattie Pelzel of Sleepy Eye.
She was born in Sleepy Eye on July 20, 1942, to Ambrose and Rosa (Wolf) Pietig.

Robert 'Bob' L. Horak, 69, of Winthrop, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial of ashes in the Winthrop Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Winthrop and continues one hour before services, at the church on Saturday.
Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop is handling the arrangements.
Robert L. Horak was born Feb. 11, 1932, in Owatonna, Minn., to Edward and Jean (Albrecht) Horak.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Leann Horak of Winthrop; and daughter, Jenna Horak of Winthrop.

Julie (Miller) Heines, 31, of Lebanon, Ind., daughter of the late Judy (Brudelie) Miller, died Feb. 4, 2002, in Indianapolis, Ind.
She is survived by her husband, David Heines, of Lebanon, ind; two children; two brothers; and grandmother, Juliet Brudelie of New Ulm.
She was born Aug. 1, 1971, to Ray and Judy (Brudelie) Miller.

Marlowe 'Little Pete' Q. Peterson, 92, died Monday, Feb. 11, 2002 at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia, and at the church Friday one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his children, Wally Peterson of Mankato, Lucy Goblirsch of Eagle Lake, Kenny Peterson, of Eagan, and Christine Peterson of St. Paul; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and a sister, Alice Cutshall of Rochester.
He was born Feb. 25, 1909, in Tucson, Ariz., to Benj and Hilma (Quist) Peterson.
