Erroll J. Matheson, 96, of Springfield, died March 17, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel in Springfield, with burial in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
Sturm Funeral Home handled arrangements.
He is survived by wife, Marian K. Matheson; children, Shirley Harder of Chanhassen, Keith Matheson of Mankato, Jeanelle Schultz of Springfield; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
He was born Nov. 21, 1905, in Worthington to Floyd and Minnie (Trevett) Matheson.

Laverne E. Fehlman, 82, of 1115 N. Washington St., in New Ulm died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Friday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and continues before the service at church on Friday.
She is survived by daughters, Joyce Brandes of rural Courtland and Judy Brandes of rural New Ulm; a son, Larry Fehlman of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Waggoner of Apple Valley; and brother, Lester Forbrook of rural Nicollet.
She was born March 5, 1920, in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to Theodore and Meta (Hulke) Forbrook.

Reynold 'Chris' Christensen, 90, of Roseville, and formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002, at Saint Otto's Care Center in Little Falls.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 9, 2002, at North Como Presbyterian Church in Roseville.
He is survived by his sister, Leona Baird of Roseville; sons, Dennis of Little Falls, and Dean of New Brighton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Chris was born Sept. 27, 1911, to Albert and Martha (Simonsen) Christensen.

James Puhlmann, of New Ulm, died Tuesday evening, March 19, 2002, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial to follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm.
James Alfred Puhlmann, the son of Alfred "Lemie" and Louise "Lou" (Ruby) Puhlmann, was born Feb. 14, 1918, in New Ulm. He attended public schools and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1936. A lifelong New Ulm resident, he was united in marriage to Marie Saffert on Dec. 13, 1941, in New Ulm. He worked for his father at Puhlmann Brothers and later owned and operated Puhlmann Lumber Company. He retired after 20 years as Captain of the New Ulm Fire Department, Engine No. 3. Jim was Past President of the NUFD Relief Association and served as Secretary/Treasurer for 20 years, before retiring as First Assistant Chief. He became a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in November, 1999. His wife died Jan. 28, 2000. Jim was a member of Turnverein, and a former Turner Hall board member having served as treasurer for many years. Junior Pioneers; and the Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law John "Hans" and Bette Puhlmann of New Ulm; four grandchildren, Sheri Sprenger of Sleepy Eye, John Puhlmann, Jr. and his wife Lisa of New Ulm, Jared Puhlmann of New Ulm, and Kayla Puhlmann of New Ulm; six great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret "Muggs" Furth of Lamberton; sisters-in-law, Helen Saffert of Chicago, Rosie Haggbloom and her husband Lloyd of Bonita Springs, Fla., Marge Saffert of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Stan Saffert and his wife Donna of Burnsville; nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the Turner Hall Gymnastics Program and to Station 3 at Oak Hills Living Center.

Wilbur L. Furness, 67, of New Carlisle, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Jamestown, Ohio, with burial to follow in the Silvercreek Cemetery.
He is survived by daughters, DeAnna Konakowitz of Apple Valley, and Tammy Steffl of New Ulm; and five grandchildren.
Wilbur L. Furness was born July 9, 1934, in Dayton, Ohio, to Willis and Hannah (Mason) Furness. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Raymond Ruppert, 78, of Currie, died Sunday at his home in Currie.
Services were Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, with burial at the Calvary Cemetery in Currie.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Currie; sons, Paul of Jasper, Texas, Karl of Currie, and Matthew of Mound; daughters, Rebecca Biesanz of Sleepy Eye, Ramona of Minneapolis, and Jodi Shaw of New Milford, Conn.; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Julia Peltola of Currie, Marcella Cummiskey of Currie, and Leota Silver of Tracy; brothers, Herbert of Currie, and Orville of Farwell.
Raymond Leo Ruppert was born March 31, 1923, in Currie. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Myron Berkner, age 78, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Dumas, Texas, while traveling to Arizona.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a COF and KC rosary at 4 p.m., and a parish service at 6:30 p.m., both Friday at the funeral home.
Mike was born on April 6, 1923, in Sleepy Eye, the son of Harold and Katherine (Huiras) Berkner. He grew up and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Sleepy Eye. He married Pearl Guldager on May 17, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
The couple farmed near Sleepy Eye for many years until retiring in 1983. Mike and Pearl lived at the lake near Park Rapids, in the summers, and in Mesa, Ariz., in the winters. Due to Mike's health, they had lived in Sleepy Eye full time the last two years.
Mike was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. His favorite pastimes were fishing at the lake, lawn bowling in Arizona and being with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Pearl of Sleepy Eye; son Bill and wife Karen of St Michael; daughter Julie and husband Bil Hughes of Sleepy Eye; six grandchildren, Amber, Joey, Ryan, Jessica, Elizabeth, and Alex; brothers, Randy Berkner of Sleepy Eye, Richard and wife Barbra Berkner of Mankato, Dave and wife Sandy Runing of White Bear Lake, and Curt and wife Mary Runing of Cass Grande, Ariz.; and sister, Ramona Rickie of Blue Earth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Cecelia; sister, Barbara; infant sister Rosemary; sister-in-law, Dolly Berkner and brother-in-law, Bill Rickie.

Wilbur Furness, 67, of New Carlisle, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2002, morning at Greene Memorial Hospital in Xenia, Ohio.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Powers Funeral Home in Jamestown, Ohio, where friends and family may call Saturday from 12 p.m. until time of service. Burial will be in the Silvercreek Cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, DeAnna Konakowitz of Apple Valley, and Tammy and husband Dan Steffl of New Ulm; and five grandchildren, Heather and Shane Konakowitz, Justin, Sarah and Rachel Steffl; and a sister Evelyn Gibbons of New Carlisle, Ohio.

Owen Michael Brockhoff, 11 months, of New Auburn, died March 19, 2002, at Children's Hospital, Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a..m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran church, New Auburn, with burial in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord and continues 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
He is survived by his parents, James and Tracy Brockhoff of New Ulm, and brother Tyler.
He was born April 5, 2001, in Hutchinson to James and Tracy Brockhoff.

Mitchell Ellies, 27, of Dassel and formerly of Lafayette died Thursday, March 21, 2002 as a result of an automobile accident near Dassel.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with burial in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lafayette.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Mitchell is survived by his parents, Merrill and Lila Ellies of Lafayette; a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Rick Larson of Dassel; and a niece, Samantha Larson; and nephew, Lucas Larson. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Wallace and Marie Carlson; and paternal grandparents, Milton and Elsie Ellies.
He was born on March 27, 1974 in New Ulm to Merrill and Lila (Carlson) Ellies. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1992 and then graduated from South Central Technical College in Mankato in 1994. He attained his State Journeyman's License from Hutchinson Technology in Hutchinson and worked as a tool and die maker and designer and was currently working for Hutchinson Technology at the time of his death. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and water skiiing. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette.

Earl Wenz, 75, of Hector, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Hector, with burial in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

Sharon Peterson, 59, of 1514 South Washington Street in New Ulm died Friday, March 22, 2002 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, with burial in the church Cemetery, rural Courtland.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and will continue from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and then will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Donald H. Peterson, of New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law Michael and Sarah Peterson of St. Peter; grandsons eight-year-old Tyler and four-year-old Nathan; sisters and brothers-in-law Kathleen and Earl Blank and Mary and Harlan Blank all of Nicollet, Cynthia Fitzner of Truman, and Nancy and Dennis Fogelberg of LaSalle; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald and Lois Fitzner of Fergus Falls and John and Marilyn Fitzner of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Michael Fitzner, in infancy.
Sharon, the daughter of Marvin and Elaine (Kosek) Fitzner, was born on July 28, 1942 at the Union Hospital in New Ulm. She attended the Nicollet Public High School and graduated from there in 1960. On May 4, 1962 she was united in marriage to Donald Peterson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. After their marriage they lived in Sleepy Eye for several years before moving to New Ulm. While living in New Ulm she worked from 1963 to 1973 at Tactronics, formerly known as Windings, and then for the next 14 years she operated her own daycare out of her home, operating that up until the early 90's. She was a previous member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married, and was currently a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Sharon enjoyed listening to Blue Grass Music and she and her husband enjoyed traveling through out the states of Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri going to Blue Grass Festivals.

Cyril J. Burg, 77, of Judson, died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's The Worker Catholic Church in Mankato, with burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Judson; sons David of North Mankato, Keith of rural North Mankato and Mark of St. Peter; daughters Diane Bode and Kathy Howk of New Ulm; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Jerry Marce of St. Peter; and sisters Sister Carmen Burg SSND of Mankato and Kathleen Wesley of Waterville.
He was born on July 6, 1924, in Granby Township to Matt and Rose (Dorm) Burg.
He served in the Army in 1945- 1946 in Japan and the Phillipines.

John A. Dwyer, 81, of St. James, died Friday, March 22, 2002, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer vigil at 4:30 p.m., and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was born Nov. 8, 1920, in St. James to James and Mary (Koch) Dwyer.

Willie F. Hoffman, 98, of Springfield and formerly of Madelia, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel in Springfield, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel.
Arrangements were handled by Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
He is survived by his wife, Olive of St. John Lutheran Home, stepson, Dennis and Nancy Brudelie of Orefield, Pa.; daughters-in-law, Jane Hoffman of La Salle and Joan Hoffman of Springfield, son-in-law, Floyd and Shirley Larson of Hanska; 10 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jessie; daughter, Luella Larson; sons, Clayton and Dale; sisters, Carrie Payton, Esther Rathman, Marion Cunningham and Ruth Akers; and brothers, Delbert and twin Walter; and infant brother, John,
Willie was born Aug. 12, 1903, in Blairsburg, Iowa, to Ferdinand and Edith (Godfrey) Hudson, He moved with his family to Minnesota at the age of 9 in 1913, Willie married Jessie Hudson on June 10, 1924. Jessie preceded him in death on Feb. 26, 1944. He married Olive (Odegard) Brudelie on March 4, 1946. They farmed in the St. James area until moving to Madelia in 1968. Willie also was a salesman for MoorMan's Feed and did carpentry work when he was young. After he retired, he worked for Ardin Thormodson doing field work for several years. He became a resident of St. John Lutheran Home In September of 1999. He was a member of Albion Lutheran Church, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Lakeland Choralaires for more than 20 years. He loved playing baseball and was an avid Twins fan. Willie also enjoyed gardening and sharing the fruit of his labors, fishing, visiting and playing cards with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lucille (Mrs. Merlin) Landgraff, 70, of Franklin, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at her home.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Central Lutheran Church, Camp Township, Renville County, Minnesota with burial at Fort Ridgely and Dale Cemetery in Camp Township, Renville County.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax, and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Harold Fortwengler, 83, of 1021 N. Garden St., New Ulm, died Sunday morning, March 24, 2002, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations will follow in the Soldiers Rest section of the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, and 7-10 a.m. Wednesday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A parish prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Harold Charles Fortwengler, the son of Frank and Louise (Metzen) Fortwengler, was born July 23, 1918, in Cottonwood Township, Brown County. He attended country school and St, Mary's Parochial grade school in New Ulm. He entered the United States Army in February 1941, serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. While in the military, he was united in marriage to Alyce K. Bauer of Sleepy Eye on Aug. 20, 1944, in Belton, Texas. Following his honorable discharge in October 1945, the couple made their home in New Ulm, He began working for the International Multifoods in February of 1946. He also worked as a painter in his spare time, and also following his retirement from the rye mill in 1982.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm and had served as an usher for many years; and American Legion Post 132.
Survivors include his wife Alyce; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Deb Fortwengler of Burnsville; granddaughters, Heather Berndt and her husband Keith of Shakopee, Jaime Cichon and her husband Eric of Tucson, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Paige Berndt of Shakopee; sister, Florinda Richter of New Ulm; brother, Joe Fortwengler and his wife Anna of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Martha Sanders of Gaylord; brothers-in-law, Robert Bauer and his wife Margaret of New Ulm, Stanley Bauer and his wife Mary Katherine of Sleepy Eye, Larry Bauer and his wife Maggie of New Ulm, and Donna Schumacher and her husband Don of Wanda, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Art and his wife Ernestine; brothers-in-law, Linus and James Bauer; and an infant twin brother and sister at birth.
