Mildred H. “Millie” Rohsfeld
Services were held for Mildred H. “Millie” Rohsfeld. The former Proctor resident died Wed., May 9, 2001 in Duluth. She was 76.

She was born in Courtney, N.D. She grew up and attended school there, moving to the area in the 1940’s.

Millie worked for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle during World War II and in Duluth had worked at the Pekin Cafe and VanVick Box Company. She married Walter G. Rohsfeld on Aug. 31, 1947 in Fosston, Minn. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Proctor and was a former member of St. Paul’s American Lutheran Church, now Our Savior’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. In earlier years, she was a member of the International Woodworkers Union Local No. 29. Millie enjoyed roller skating, fishing, gardening and all outdoor activities, especially fishing opener with the family at Fish Lake. It was very important to Millie and Walter that all family members be together at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter in 1991 and a sister Myrtle Bishop.

She is survived and will be deeply missed by daughters Rosemary (Dick) Royer of Saginaw and Sharon Saarela of Duluth, son Rick (Barb) Rohsfeld of Eagan, sister Marion LaVoi of Fosston, brother Harold “Ike” (Annie) Liegman of Wahkon, Minn., six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Entombment will be in Sunrise Memorial Park. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Marianna A. Burns
Services were held last week for Marianna A. Burns. She died Mon., May 7, 2001 in Lake Haven Manor in Duluth. She was 79.

The Seventh Street resident was born in Duluth. She married Robert Burns in Duluth in 1942. He passed away in 1994. Marianna worked as a cook in numerous Duluth-area restaurants and owned the Red Carpet Restaurant in the late 1960’s. She was a member of Women of the Moose of Proctor. Marianna loved bingo and crocheting afghans for all of her family.

Marianna is survived by her daughters Roberta “Bobby” (Roy) Kruger of Proctor, Susan (Edwin) Black of Middleboro, Mass., Elizabeth “Bette” (Rich) Burns-Koivisto of Duluth and Anita Burns of Naperville, Ill., sons Robert (Janet) Burns of Duluth and Neal (Judy) Burns of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

Kalvin R. “Kal” Peterson Sr.
Former Proctor School Board member Ronald Peterson is saddened by the death of his brother, Kalvin R. “Kal” Peterson Sr. He died unexpectedly, Sat., May 12, 2001 in his 65th Ave W. home. He was 43.

He was born in Duluth to Raymond R. and Shirley J. (Rabold) Peterson. Kal was a lifelong Duluth resident and was a 1975 graduate of Central High School. He worked as a millwright at Georgia Pacific Corp., formerly Superwood Corp., and was founder and president of Denfeld Lube Center, which is family-owned and operated. He had previously owned and operated Peterson Lawn Service, which became Perfect Lawns.

He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church of Lakewood. Kal married Pattie Lyn Monson on Oct. 28, 1995, in Elim Lutheran Church, Duluth.

Survivors also include his wife Pattie, a daughter, three sons, his father, three other brothers, a sister, five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, two grandnephews, and a grandniece.

Burial was in Park Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Robert Patrick Mills
Robert Patrick Mills, who was born in the home of his grandfather William Mills in Bayview, died Fri., May 11, 2001 in Duluth. He was 78.

Robert and his mother left soon after he was born and went to Louisville, Ky., to stay a short time with her relatives. They then moved to Chicago, where he lived until around 1960 when he returned to Duluth. While in Chicago, Bob worked as a commercial artist for various firms in the city, including the prestigious firm of Raymond Loewy Designs in Chicago. He was a graduate of Senn High School and Schools of Design, all in Chicago.

He is survived by a daughter Victoria Linden of California and a grandson Evan Linden of North Carolina.

Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Olive Mae Lindquist
Jeff Herrick of Proctor is morning the death of his mother, Olive Mae Lindquist. She died Fri., May 11, 2001 in Duluth after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 72.

The LaVaque Road resident was born in Wright. Tooky married David Lindquist Oct. 31, 1976 in Duluth. She lived all her life in the area. Tooky was a member of the White Earth Indian Reservation and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital, retiring in 1993.

She is also survived by her husband, a daughter, three other sons, two stepdaughters, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Entombment was in Sunrise Memorial Park Cemetery in Hermantown.

Carolyn R. Vollmer
Former Proctor resident Carolyn R. Vollmer (nee Mainella) died Thurs., May 10, 2001.

She was formerly a nurse at the Group Health Clinic of Apple Valley, Minn.

Survivors include her loving husband Steven, and sons Joshua and Chad, her mother Darlene Mainella, a sister Patricia Couture, brothers Scott (Tracy) and Greg (Julie) Mainella, parents-in-law Norman and Donna Vollmer, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Keith Vollmer and Linda (Jim) Duptuy, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Charles M. Witte
Charles M. Witte, who grew up in Proctor and graduated from Proctor High School in 1932, died Sat., Feb. 24, 2001 in Pharr, Texas. He was 85.

The Cloquet resident was born in New England, N.D. to Carl and Thelma (Archambeau) Witte. He graduated from Itasca Junior College in 1938 and University of Minnesota North Central School of Agriculture.

He and Ethel Stebner were married on Sept. 2, 1940. They had a top dairy farm north of Cloquet. Charles served on many co-op boards and committees. He was instrumental in developing the annual Co-op Rally. He worked as a brakeman for DM&IR railroad, as a dairy farmer and retired as member service director of Carlton County Co-op Power in 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother James Witte.

He is survived by his wife Ethel, children Myrna Connet of Apple Valley, Minn., Gene (Melanie) Witte of Stillwater, Minn., Fred (Helen) Witte of Sturgeon Lake, Louise (Gerald) Gross of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., John (Tenley) Witte of Duluth and Jerry (Diana) Witte of Duluth, Mary Kay (Craig) Ferguson of Woodbury, Minn., 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister Evelyn (Helmer) Jacobson of Hermantown, and a niece Connie (Skip) Jacobson-Sharpe.

Anna June Kampf Beron
Former Proctor resident, Anna June Kampf Beron, lived to see 100. She died Thurs., May 17, 2001 in Chris Jensen Health Care Center.

The Rice Lake Rd. resident was born in Lampson, Wis. on June 1, 1900 and raised on the family farm until she came to the area at age 18. She worked as a waitress at the old Spalding and Holland Hotels and the Duluth Athletic Club, retiring in 1959. She was a former member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Proctor and St. James Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands John Kampf in 1940 and Raymond Beron, Sr. in 1982.

She is survived by her daughter Lois (Raymond) Leischke of Duluth, her son John (Loretta) Kampf of Billings, Mont., grandsons Gregory Haynes of Hermantown and John Kampf of Bozeman, Mont., stepchildren Giles (Joan) Beron of Ariz., Richard (Judy) Beron of Proctor, Rita (Donald) Myntti of Duluth, step daughter-in-law Lois (Raymond) Beron, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 32 step great-grandchildren, one niece and four nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Marion Pearson
Services were held last week for Marion Pearson. The Second Avenue Proctor resident died Wed., May 16, 2001 in a Duluth hospital. She was 69.

She was born in Duluth. She worked for Elliott’s Meats and Lake Haven Nursing Home. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Raymond in 1974, a sister Doris Jeannetta, a brother Peter Pikkarainen, and her special companion Carl “Ed” Johnson.

She is survived by a daughter Diane L. Pearson (Bob Chicos) of Duluth, two sons Dennis (Brenda) of Duluth and Darrell (Sherri) of Two Harbors, sisters Bernice Hendrickson and Ruthie (Buck) Workman, both of Duluth, brothers Arthur (Sue) Pikkarainen of Las Vegas and Richie (Judy) Pikarainen of Duluth, grandchildren Todd Pearson of Minneapolis, Eric Pearson of Duluth, Christine (Scott) Schmitz of Inver Grove Heights, Chad Pearson of Jordan, Minn., Leah Lehikoinen of Duluth and Melissa (Joel) Schaefer of Kasota, Minn., three great-grandchildren Alanna Lacktorin, Brandan Schmitz and Sierra Schaefer, special extended family Frank and Bonnie Siiro family of Munger, and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Ruth Josephine (Bodell) Pogue
Joe Bodell is saddened by the death of his sister Ruth Josephine (Bodell) Pogue. She died Wed., Apr. 4, 2001. She was 79.

The Blaine resident was a cosmetologist and loved her dog and flowers.

Survivors include her husband Ray, three children, a grandson, a great-granddaughter, six sisters, and five other brothers.

Interment was in Park Hill Cemetery.

Kenneth R. Archambeau, Randy Archambeau of Saginaw is mourning the death of his father, Kenneth R. Archambeau. The Hermantown resident died May 6, 2001 in a Duluth hospital. He was 60.

He was born in Duluth, and was a lifelong Hermantown resident. He was an Army veteran.

He married Audrey Fransk on May 6, 1965, in Hermantown. He had worked for Engwall’s Florist & Greenhouse and the U.S. Steel Plant Duluth Works. He was a Hermantown School District bus driver for seven years and for the past ten years did maintenance work for the Hermantown schools, retiring in Feb. 2001 because of his illness.

He is also survived by his wife of 36 years Audrey, two daughters, two other sons, two brothers, 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Burial was in Hermantown Cemetery.
