Lillian Brand, 67, of Hanska died Friday morning, June 28, 2002 at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church in Searles. Burial will take place at a later date.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and 7 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Firle Funeral Home in New Ulm. A rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Lillian Agnes Slattery, the daughter of Edward and Odelia (Boland) Slattery, was born Oct. 24,1934 in Chillicothe, MO. She spent her youth in Marshall, MO and graduated from Mercy Academy in 1952. She studied business at Ursuline College in Paola, KS, receiving an Associate in Arts degree. She moved to Alaska in 1954, working as a secretary for the Polaris Air Force Base.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Brand on May 30, 1955 at Fairbanks. They moved to Minnesota in 1960 and a year later to Denver, CO. In 1974, the family moved to rural Hanska. She worked in the Holy Trinity Middle School library, was a copywriter for KNUJ Radio, and later worked at the Petron Family Chiropractic Clinic, all in New Ulm.
She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Searles, an MRCI volunteer, and had worked for Ampride in Hanska,
Survivors include daughters, Margaret Graham and her husband Wesley of Cedaredge, CO, Cecile Brisnehan and her husband Robert of Indianapolis, IN, Bonita Brand of New Ulm, Jeanine Brand and her husband Al Nankivel of Bagley, sons, Ted Brand and his wife Lornell of St. Paul, Steve Brand and his wife Amber of Oakdale, Paul Brand and his wife Sarah of Falcon Heights; eight grandchildren; former husband, Gene Brand of Hanska; brothers, Clarence Slattery and his wife Adeline of Warrensburg, MO, Donald Slattery of Joplin, MO, Patrick Slattery and his wife Fay of Lee Summit, MO; sisters, Marcella Raulie and her husband Paul of Excelsior Springs, MO, Mary Halverson of Sacramento, CA; brothers-inlaw, James Brand and his wife Doris of St. Cloud, William Anthony Brand and his wife Carol of Foley; sisters-in-law, Beata Chute of St. Joseph, Sister Bonita Brand, S.L.W. of Chicago, Celine Siira and her husband Eino of Sperryville, VA; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Samuel James Brand, and two brothers, Kenneth and Jerome Slattery.
Memorials are preferred to St. John's Catholic Church Capital Campaign Fund.

Emma M. Gewerth, 93, formerly of New Ulm, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the Augustana Home in Hastings.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 1, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home on Monday.

Elaine Hagg, 81, of 31 Circuit Drive in New Ulm died Friday, June 28, 2002 at her home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.

Helen E. Johnson, 79, of Morgan died Friday, June 29, 2002 Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center-Redwood Falls.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan, with burial in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Morgan.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan, with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary by St. Anne's CCW and a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service.
She is survived by her children, Larry Johnson of Redwood Falls, Dean Johnson of Austin, Texas, Janell Olson of Willmar. Mary Steinhaus of Redwood Falls/Morgan; and eight grandchildren.
She was born Aug. 7, 1922 in Springfield to Peter and Bertha Wenisch.

Wallace R. "Wally" Pedersen, 83, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, June 27, 2002, at Buffalo Hospital in Buffalo, Minn.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Home Cemetery, Veterans Memorial Garden Section, Sleepy Eye. Military rites will be provided by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, June 30, and 7:30-9 a.m. on Monday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Wally is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pedersen of Sleepy Eye; a son, Wade Pedersen of Sleepy Eye; step-sons, Dillon Olson of Clear Lake, Iowa, Donnie Olson of Andover, and Dennis Olson of Maple Lake; sisters, Phyllis Undseth of Orlando, Fla. and Marilyn Dahl of Coon Rapids; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
He was born on March 4, 1919 in Hope, N.D. to Fred and Marie (Madsen) Pedersen. He served in the United States Navy for four years during World War II.

Brenda Swenson, 46, of the Jeffers and Lamberton areas, died Friday, June 28, 2002 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 2 at Highwater Lutheran Church, rural Lamberton with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2002 at Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home, Jeffers and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Viola E. Otto, of Gaylord, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord.
She is survived by children, Violet M. Otto of Edina, Henry W. Otto of Faribault, Marion Anderson of Bloomington, Ruth Root of Minneapolis, Janet Wieman of Arlington; sisters, Margaret Hedren of Burnsville; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was born Sept. 29, 1902, in Gaylord, to Henry G. and Amanda (Abraham) Mueller.

Patricia Doris Enger, 50, of St. James, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the St. James Health Services Hospital in St. James.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 1 -8 p.m. today at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James and one hour before the service at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; sons, Paul of Glendale, Ariz., Adam of Phoenix, Ariz; parents, William and DonnaBelle Miest of St. James; sister, Debra Schmidt of Waseca; and brother Michael Miest of St James.
She was born Sept. 21, 1951, to William and DonnaBelle (Miller) Miest in St. James.

Adeline Thompson, 90, of Buffalo Lake, died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake with burial in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
She is survived by her husband, Orville Thompson of Buffalo Lake; daughters, Janette Ewert of Buffalo Lake, JaNea Miller of Warren; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
She was born Aug. 23, 1911, in rural Stewart, Sibley County, to Albert and Augusta (Westphal) Grams.

Ray Emery, 41, of rural Madelia died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Grace United Methodist Church, Vernon Center, with burial in Vernon Center Cemetery, rural Vernon Center.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before services at church on Saturday.
Ray is survived by his parents Ken and Opal Emery of rural Vernon Center; a brother, Glen Emery of rural Lake Crystal; and sister Zelta Gens of rural Vernon Center.
He was born April 22, 1961, in Mankato, to Ken and Opal Emery.

James L. Lidberg, 78, of Gaylord, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Friday at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Friday.
He is survived by his sisters, Grace Carlson of Gaylord Lakeview Home, Lorraine Bruss of Gaylord, and Louise Merritt of Minnetonka.
James Louis Lidberg was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Winthrop, to E.O. (Ernest Oscar) and Esther Peterson.

Arvid 'Sammy' August Trebesch, 69, of rural Sleepy Eye, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, New Ulm.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his brothers, Carroll Trebesch of Sleepy Eye, Leo Lindig of St. Paul, Donald Lindig of St. Paul, a sister, Jean Swenson of Isle; and his birth mother, Aileen Wigton of Redfeld, Iowa.
He was born on July 26,1933 in Willmar, and was raised by his parents, Sam and Rose (Fiemeyer) Trebesch in Sleepy Eye.

Alfred J. Brey, 94, of Hutchinson and formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at the Burns Manor in Hutchinson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Alfred is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marian and Larry Krebs of Hutchinson; sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Dorothy Brey of Sleepy Eye and Hilarian and Diane Brey of New Ulm; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Savera Brey of New Ulm and Valaria Brey of rural New Ulm; and a brother-in-law, Norbert Gleisner of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes Brey on December 29, 1997; brothers, Frank and Harold Brey; sisters, Annie Hoffman, Gisella Wendinger, Bertha Brey, Apollonia Beranek and Adelia Rueckert.
Alfred was born August 13, 1907, in Nicollet County to Wolfgang and Frances (Gruber) Brey. He married Agnes Gleisner on October 4, 1938, at the St. George Catholic Church in West Newton Township, Nicollet County. After marriage they farmed various farms in Nicollet County. They moved to a farm in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County in 1951 and farmed there until retiring. He became a resident of the Burns Manor in Hutchinson in 1996. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He enjoyed playing cards and restoring antique furniture.

Frank L. Vogl, 74, of rural Morgan, died Monday, July 1, 2002, at home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Morgan, with burial in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Morgan.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan, with a 7 p.m. parish prayer service.
He is survived by sisters, Delores Seifert of Minneota and Alice Zaske of Maple Lake; and brothers, Jerry Vogl of Morgan and Thomas Vogl of Monticello.
He was born April 30, 1928, in Redwood Falls to Frank and Anna (Heiling) Vogl.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Pearl J. Christenson, 85, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at her home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls with burial in Belview Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her sons, Allen Christenson and Dennis Christenson, and a daughter, Diane Busta; 9 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Selmer Helgeson and sister, Tina Helgeson.
She was born Dec. 25, 1916, on the family farm near Echo to Peter and Anna (Nordin) Helgeson.

Oliver A. "Ollie" Loftness, 92, of Gibbon died Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Imman-uel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Oliver is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Janet and Richard Graupman of rural Gibbon, Linda Wolter of Mission Viejo, California; five grandchildren; one great grandson; brothers and sister-in-law, Melvin Loftness and Orville and Marilyn Loftness all of Gibbon; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hedwig "Hattie" Loftness on December 2, 2001; brothers, Gordon, Arthur, Ralph, Gerhard and William Loftness; and a sister, Margaret Lunderborg.
He was born March 3, 1910 in Severance Township, Sibley County to Gregor and Anna (Anderson) Loftness. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Hedwig Burdorf on June 3, 1945 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. After marriage they farmed in Severance Township, Sibley County until 1974 when they retired and moved into Gibbon. He enjoyed his farming, bowling, traveling to many places and seeing the U.S.A. He became a resident of the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home on August 21, 2000. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon and was a member of the American Legion Post # 226 in Gibbon.
