Carol Mae Freeman, 59, of Gaylord, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
There will be a gathering of Carol Mae's family and friends on Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop.
Carol Mae is survived by her husband, Tom Freeman of Gaylord; daughters, Pat Burdorf and her special friend, Duane Mann of Inver Grove Heights and Pam Borka and her husband, Randy of Waconia; sons, Duane Burdorf and his wife, Cindy of Laredo, Texas, Dean Burdorf and his special friend, Mary Blackstad of New Ulm, Troy Freeman and his wife, Mary of Shakopee and, Trace Freeman of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren, Angela and Andrew Isackson; Tyler and Breanna Borka; Felicia and Zachary Burdorf; Jesse Burdorf and Emily and Nick Freeman; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Freeman and his wife, Martha of Texas; Millicent Kotek and her husband, Jerry of Wis. and Oak Freeman of Minnesota, and many other relatives, dear friends and Carol Mae's cat, Norman.
Carol Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Margaret Johnson and two brothers, Duane and Bob Johnson.
Carol Mae (Johnson) Freeman was born March 25, 1943, in New Ulm. She was the daughter of Fredrick William and Margaret Evelyn (Totman) Johnson. Carl Mae was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith, as a youth, in Winthrop. She attended and graduated from Winthrop High School in 1961.
Carol Mae was united in marriage with Tom Freeman in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1977. The couple resided in Gaylord.
During her life, Carol Mae held employment as a manager of several retail stores. She also worked as a hospice volunteer and as a home health aide for over 15 years.
Carol Mae was a member of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting tea pots and Elvis memorabilia along with going to garage sales. She will always be remembered for her giving personality.

Erin V. Holmquist, 87, of St. James, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at West Sveadahl Lutheran Church in rural St. James. with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Pease Funeral Home in St. James and one hour before the services Sunday at the church.
She is survived by sons, Wayne of St. James, Donn of St James; two grandchildren; and sister, Martha Nelson of Trimont.
She was born May 27, 1915, to Martin and Anna (Karlson) Gustafson in Adrian Township, Watonwan County.

Virginia M. "Ginny" Ahles, 69, of Blaine. Preceded in death by her son, Tom. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Larry; children, Mark (Eileen), Michael (Karen), Robert (Julie), Lynn (Michael) McMurphy; eight grandchildren; sister Dorothy Elliot.
Visitation Sunday 5-8 p.m. at Methven Taylor Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, 10 a.m., St. Gerard Catholic Church, 9600 Regent Ave. North, Brooklyn Park (763-424-8770) with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Seth Daniel Poncin-Horner, one month old son of Mary Poncin and Daniel Horner of New Ulm died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of the Angels will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and will continue from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Seth is survived by his parents, Mary Poncin and Daniel Horner of New Ulm; grandparents Joe Poncin of New Ulm, Pat Poncin of New Ulm, Bud and Kathy Bruhjell of Arlington; Gerry and Patty Horner of New Ulm; great grandparents Cal and Agnes Brazier of Kasota and Dorothy Hahn of Arlington.
He was born July 3, 2002 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.

Robert M. Vochoska, 46, of 227 1/2 North Minnesota Street in New Ulm died Friday at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague with burial in the Czech National Cemetery in New Prague.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of local arrangements.
Robert is survived by his mother, Lucille Javurek of New Prague; brothers, James Vochoska of New Prague, Stanley Javurek of Chanhassen; sisters, Dorothy Ennis of Coon Rapids, Evelyn Barbash of Montgomery, and Josephine Lightfeather of New Prague.
Robert was born June 16, 1956 in New Prague to Martin and Lucille (Wondra) Vochoska.

Sylvester M. Volz, 85, of 6909 Blaisdell Ave. So., Richfield, formerly of the St. George area, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at his home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Richfield, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at Gill Brothers Mortuary, 5801 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Ronald and wife Nancy Volz of Lakeville, and Michael and wife Robyn Volz of Eagan; daughters, Kathleen and husband Paul Macintosh of Pittsburgh, Pa., Jeanette and husband Kurt Scherer of Solana Beach, Calif., LuAnn and husband Paul Ceres of California, Mary Jo and husband Brett Jacobsen of Richfield, and Julie and husband Brad Johnson of Bloomington; a brother, Robert and wife Jean Volz of Portland, Ore., and sisters, Justine Palmer of Brainerd and Cal Verna Wilfahrt and husband Eldor of New Ulm; 15 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anton, Math, Andrew, Lawrence, George, Linus and Fred, and sisters Flavia Volz and Winifred Brandel.
He was born Sept. 16, 1916 in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to John and Helena Volz. He attended St. George School and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1935. He attended Kansas City Radio School and became an electrician.
He served in the European Theater in World War II, was wounded in Czechoslovakia and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He married Helen David on June 24, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
He was a resident of Sleepy Eye for several years before moving to Richfield.

Peter Chmelar, 25, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and one hour prior to the church service Friday.
He is survived by daughters, Sarah and Sabrina; parents, John and Donna of Echo and Cheryl and Jim Reynolds of Morton; sisters, Jody Chmelar of Wisconsin, Shannon Swoboda of Redwood Falls, Jeanie Anderson of Glenwood; brother, Philip of Redwood Falls; grandparents, Jim and Phyllis Schmidt of Osakis and Agnes Chmelar of Ada.
He was born on April 27, 1977, in Redwood Falls to John Chmelar and Cheryl Reynolds.

Viola B. Bergs, 78, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at her home in Gaylord.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in the High Island Cemetery in New Auburn.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Friday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and will also continue one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.
Arrangements are pending with the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord.

Peter Chmelar, 25, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.

John Gaasch, 73, of Morton, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at St. Louis Park Health Care Center in St. Louis Park.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at St. John's Catholic Church in Morton, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery in Morton.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Prayer service will be 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his sons, Edward Gaasch of Morton, and William Gaasch of Houston, Texas; daughters, Linda U'Ren of Willmar, Gloria Thorson of Crystal, Connie Higgins of Waco, and Karen Kline of Eden Prairie; 10 grandchildren; and sister Zelda Gallery of Morton.
John Edward Gaasch was born March 3, 1927, to Edward J. and Katherine (Steinke) Gaasche in Morton Village Township.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 - 1953.

Lester Urban, 83, of St. James, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be 3 - 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the Pease Funeral Home in St. James. A private family burial will be held Saturday at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Charles Haycraft, Bruce Haycraft, and Kevin Haycraft, all of St. James, Danny Urban of Egan, and Carl Urban of Madelia; daughters, Sheila Wick of St. James, Cynthia Frantik of Olivia, and Cindy Urban-Olson of Shakopee; 21 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Harold Urban of Osakis; and sister Lorraine Mielke of Glencoe.
Lester Carl Urban was born April 6, 1919, to William and Ella (Burmeister) Urban, in Blue Earth County.

Alphie 'Al' H. Sorheim, 63 of Jacksonville, Fla., and formerly of New Ulm died Monday, August 5, 2002 in Waycross, Ga.
Service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Alphie is survived by his wife, Sandy Sorheim of Jacksonville; his mother, Diana Sorheim, Madelia; daughters, Lisa Averill of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Nancy Smith with the United States Navy stationed in Sicily, Italy.
Alphie was born Dec. 31, 1938 in New Ulm to Alphie Sr. and Diana (Olstad) Sorheim.

Lucille Budahn, 65, of 1411 N. Payne Street in New Ulm, was called home to her Heavenly Savior on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at her New Ulm home after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial to follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 7 a.m. to I p.m. Monday at Schmucker Funeral Service (formerly Firle Funeral Home) in New Ulm. A parish prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Lucille Mahon Dressen, the daughter of George and Margaret (Kreger) Dressen, was born Feb. 23, 1937 in Arco, Minn. As a child, she moved with her family to Green Isle. She was united in marriage to Claude Budahn June 22, 1957 in Green Isle. In 1959, they moved to New Ulm where they owned and operated Budahn International Garage with her husband's father and brothers for many years. She was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
Survivors include her husband Claude of New Ulm; son Bruce Budahn and his wife Lori of Cottage Grove; daughter Diane Duffy and her husband Robert of Cottage Grove; daughter-in-law Terri Budahn of New Ulm and grandchildren, Jennifer, Bryan, Nichole, Scott, Andrew and Danielle Budahn, Robert, Christopher, Stephanie, Michael, Matthew, and Megan Duffy. Also surviving are brothers, Earl Dressen and his wife Mary, Robert Dressen and his wife Merva Ann, Merlin Dressen and his wife Priscilla, all of Fort Dodge, Iowa; William Dressen and his wife Patricia of Roseville; sister, Ann Cahill and her husband John of Kasota; brothers-in-law, Al Budahn and his wife Marianne of Darwin, Earl Budahn and his wife Joan of Arlington; sister-in-law, Naomi Budahn of Courtland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Bob Budahn in 1999, brother George Jr. and brother-in-law Lewis Budahn earlier this year.
The family thanks the medical staff in New Ulm, the caring and supportive 7C team of professionals at Fairview University Hospital and the hospice team of New Ulm.

Bernice Klinker, 73, formerly of New Ulm died Thursday, August 8, 2002 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Bernice is survived by her daughters, Linda Klinker of Rice, Lori Gastecki of Grand Marais; sons, Larry Klinker of Thief River Falls, Allen Klinker of Rice, and Scott Klinker of Sauk Rapids; six grandchildren; and two great granddaughters.
Bernice was born Dec. 20, 1928 in New Ulm to Frederick and Katherine (Preisinger) Rodewald.

Marigold Speece, 91, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at the Sunwood Good Samaritan Center.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls. Burial will be in Duluth at a later date.
Visitation will be half an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
She is survived by sisters, Grace Krogh of Cromwell, Myrtle Berg of Hartford, Wis., and Ruby Pappas of Castro Valley, Calif.; a stepson, Maynard Speece of Plymouth, and one grandson.

Rae Jean Weisner, 43, of Brooklyn Center, formerly of Lamberton, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002 as a result of an automobile accident.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lamberton with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her mother, Rita of Lamberton; brothers and sisters, Steve of Circle Pines, Ron of Mandera, Calif., Mary Kae Pabst of Redwood Falls, Tom of San Jose, Calif. and James of Hollister, Calif.
She was born April 24, 1959 to Ervin and Rita (Schultz) Weisner in southwest Minnesota.
