Marjorie C. Persinger, 83, of St. James, died Sept. 23, 2002, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James. There will be no burial service.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
She is survived by sons, Dave of Washington, Iowa and James of Sioux Falls, S.D.; daughters, Janet Schwake of Bloomington and Karen Mattison of St. James; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was born June 16, 1919, to Myron and Clara (Hoyme) Solsaa in Jasper.

Gladys Ries, 93, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Cathedral. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Gladys is survived by a son and daughter-in-law LaRay and Elaine Ries of Lisbon, N.D.; daughters and sons-in-law, Joleen and Carroll Elijah of Elburn, Ill., Roselyn and John Gilbert of Lisbon, N.D., Dianne and Bill Embacher and Janice and Paul Kretsch, all of New Ulm; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law Hugo "Steve" and Marcie Reinhart of Rochester; and a sister-in-law Marie Reinhart of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Ries on Sept. 30, 1967; a sister Florence Franta; and brothers, Alvin, LeRoy and Robert Reinhart. Gladys was born May 11, 1909, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, to Robert and Dora (Dauer) Reinhart. She married Raymond Ries on Oct. 17, 1927, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in Klossner and New Ulm before moving to the home farm in Nicollet County.
In 1948, they bought and moved to a farm near Lisbon, N.D. After their son took over the farm in 1952, they moved to Spokane, Wash., where she worked at the Sacred Heart Hospital. The following year they moved to Lewiston, Idaho, where she was employed by Albertson's Food Market for six years.
They returned to Lisbon in 1959, and she worked for Kelsen's Bakery before moving to Minneapolis, where she was employed by Wuollet Bakery. In 1963, they bought the Klossner General Store in Klossner. After her husband's death, she became the Postmaster of the Klossner Post Office until her retirement on Oct. 6, 1978.
In 1969, the general store was remodeled into the Klossner Community Center. She remained in Klossner until 1986, when she moved to New Ulm. She became a resident of the Divine Providence Community Home in October of 1998.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, St. Margaret's Catholic Aid Society in Lafayette, Catholic Daughters, St. Monica's Society, Christian Mothers Society, the German-Bohemian Heritage Society, and was active in the Golden Age Club and the Marathon Card Club. For many years she conducted tours with Jim Albrecht.

Gertrude S. Steffer, 94, of Arlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at United Methodist Church in Arlington with burial in Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 a.m. until services at the church.
She is survived by a sister, Esther Budke of Le Sueur; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was born March 31, 1908, in Kelso Township, Sibley County, Minnesota to George Jr. and Elizabeth (Blenn) Muehlhausen.
Arrangements are handled by Kolden Funeral Services.

Olivia Weyland, 86, of Ridgeway on German in New Ulm, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be from 12:30 - 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Olivia is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Dan Henning of La Mesa, Calif., Judith Hennig of Seattle, Wash., Margaret Ann and Craig Hoffman of Central Point, Ore.; son Vic Weyland of Hudson, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Esther Pape, Margaret Grube, both of Manitowoc, Wis., Irmgard Breiling of New Ulm, Cornelia Rude of Wauwatosa, Wis., Louise and Walter Otterstatter of Fon du Lac, Wis., and Renata and Eugene Kitzerow of Manitowoc, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Reverend Victor J. Weyland on Dec. 21, 1981; brothers, Waldemar Pape, Gerhardt Pape, Adolph Pape and Theodore Pape; a sister, Clara Pape; and a great-grandson, Bartholomew Welling.
She was born on Nov. 25, 1915, in Manitowoc, Wis., to Arthur F. and Clara (Toepel) Pape. She graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester in 1938. She was employed as a surgical nurse at Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay, Wis., from 1938 - 1940. On Aug. 30, 1940, she married Reverend Victor J. Weyland at the First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, Wis.
After marriage they lived in Bonduel and Collins, Wis. They moved to Mobridge, S.D. in 1957. She was Director of Nursing at the Mobridge Community Hospital from 1959 - 1967 and then was transferred to the Mobridge Medical Clinic and worked there from 1967 - 1979. She and her husband moved to New Ulm in 1979. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. The family prefers memorials be given to M.V.L. or donors choice in lieu of flowers.

Barbara Valle, 75, of Redwood Falls died Thursday, October 3, 2002, at her home in Redwood Falls.
Memorial services are 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 7, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with private burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10 am until time of service.
Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls is handling the arrangements.

Frederick 'Fritz' Raddatz, 88, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the Redwood Area Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his sisters, Hilda Christensen of Redwood Falls, and Leona Lantto of Annandale; and a brother, Richard Raddatz of Redwood Falls.
Frederick Raddatz was born April 26, 1914, in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Emil and Anna (Struckmann) Raddatz.

Barbara 'Barb' Valle, 75, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at her home in Redwood Falls.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with a private burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
She is survived by her husband Gordy Valle of Redwood Falls; daughters, Linda Caillier of Vadnais Heights, and Jane Valle of Bemidji; and brother Jon Charlsen of Aitkin.
Barba Valle was born June 18, 1927, in Stillwater, to Monty and Eva (Berglund) Charlsen.

Ethel (Mrs. Jerry) Klossner Hamann, 71, of New Ulm died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 8, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Tuesday.
Ethel is survived by her husband Jerry Hamann of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Rita Hamann and John Hamann, all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Emily Hamann and Joe Hamann both of New Ulm; a great grandson, Ethan of New Ulm; and a sister, Ruth Sitz of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ethel was born May 25, 1931, in New Ulm to Elmer and Frieda (Soeffker) Klossner. She attended St. Paul's Grade School in New Ulm and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1949. After graduating, Ethel worked for the New Ulm Rural Telephone Company and then from 1951- 1953 she worked for the Minneapolis Telephone Company. She married Jerry Hamann on October 24, 1953, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where Ethel worked as a homemaker and other various part-time jobs in the New Ulm area. She was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, the Ladies Aid at church and the American Legion Auxiliary in New Ulm.
In lieu of flowers, Ethel's family prefers memorials to the St. Paul's Parish Center and the Sleepy Eye Care Center.

Hilarius Schaeffler, 86, of Lafayette died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and will continue from 7:30 until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Knights of Columbus St. Patrick's Council 1076 will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Monday at the funeral home.
Hilarius is survived by a sister and brother-in-law Valeria and Lloyd Clobes of Lafayette; nephews, Allan Clobes and his wife, Joan, of Lafayette and Douglas Clobes of Minneapolis. Also surviving are many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Herbert Schaeffler, in October of 1994.
Hilarius, the son of Joseph and Katie (Portner) Schaeffler, was born on August 20, 1916, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. He attended country school in rural Lafayette. From 1942-1945 he served in the United States Army in the field artillery division. He served in France and Europe and was a recipient of the Army's Bronze Star. After the military he moved back to the farm in Lafayette Township. He worked for the Brand Bus Service in New Ulm in the 1940s and 1950s before going to work for several years at Lloyd's Feed Service. He then farmed the home place in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County until he retired in 1991. He continued to live on the farm up until October 1, 2001, when he moved to the Lafayette Good Samaritan, Assistant Living, in Lafayette. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past member of the American Legion in New Ulm.
Hilarius enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and watching sports, especially the Minnesota Twins.

Agnes M. Johnson, 82, of Waconia, formerly of Redwood Falls and Balaton, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Ridgeview Medical Center, Waconia.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Tracy.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Bonita Lou "Bonnie" (Engel) Ring, 67, of St. James, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the St. James Health Services Hospital in St. James.
Services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, with burial in Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont.
Visitation will 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bonita is survived by a daughter, Mary Ring of New Ulm; sons, Steven Kizer of Crawfordville, Ore., Dean Kizer and his wife Nancy of Sweet Home, Ore., Joe Kizer of Cresswell, Ore., Martin Ring and Clara Guinn of Comfrey, and Leslie Ring of St. James; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lois Kaiser of St. Paul, Betty Tiedeken of St. James, and Mary Ann Menssen of St. James; and a brother, Ronald Engel of St. James.
She was born Aug. 23,1935 to William and Vera (Behrmann) Engel in New Ulm.

Virginia V. Alwin, 89, of Flagstaff, Ariz., and formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at her home in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home Wednesday. A complete obituary was published shortly after her death in 2001.

James L. Baumberger, 41, of Mankato, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mankato Mortuary.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by a daughter, Tori Janda of North Mankato; two grandchildren; sisters, Betty Baumberger of Lafayette, Nancy Becker of New Ulm; Sherry Baumberger of Brownsville, Ore., Kathy Baumberger of Albuquerque, N.M., and Theresa Richter of Big Lake, and a brother, Gary Baumberger of Winthrop.
He was born Dec. 10, 1960, in Mankato to Fred A. and Deloris G. (Arne) Baumberger. He served in the U.S. Marines.

Delmar Boeck, 80, of Charlotte, N.C., died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Del was born on Sept. 26, 1922, in Westbrook, the son of Henry and Anna Steinhoff Boeck. He graduated from Westbrook High School, joined the Air Force and was a radio technician for the Army Air Corps in Alaska during WWII. He Married Marguerite Elliott on Nov. 20, 1945, in Edenton, N.C. After marriage, he went to Tri-State University, receiving a Mechanical Engineering Degree.
Del worked with mechanical components for the Sperry Corporation. In 1960, he moved to Orlando, Fla., where he worked for Martin-Marietta, helping to develop the Sprint ant-ballistic missile. In 1975, he moved to New Orleans, La., where he tested components for the space shuttle. He retired in 1986 and moved to Charlotte, N.C.
Del was active in his church as a Sunday School teacher and trustee in his Florida church. Upon moving to Charlotte he became a lay minister at Ascension Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Mark Boeck, his wife Yvonne, and Andrew Boeck of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, John, Melody, James, and Joshua of Slidell, La., and Andrew Boeck of Charlotte, N.C.; his two sisters, Avis Nicklasson of New Ulm, and Lois Acampora of New Haven, Conn.; and one brother James Boeck of New Ulm.
Del was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Agnes Johnson, 82, of Waconia and formerly of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Waconia Ridgeview Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Tracy
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. today at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
She is survived by her sons, Ron Johnson of New Johnsonville, Tenn., Bill Johnson of Excelsior, and Jim Johnson of Greenville, Texas; daughters, Joellyn Wood of Balaton, and Susan Homan of Redwood Falls; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Joe Gallaher, John Gallaher, and Rob Gallaher.
Agnes Margaret Johnson was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Genesee, Idaho, to Boyd and Mary Gallaher.

Robert Grossmann, 69, of 1001 North Garden Street in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, where he had been a resident since May of 2001.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Robert is survived by his wife Joleen Grossmann of New Ulm; a daughter Roberta Grossmann and her fiance Rodney Lambrecht, both of New Ulm; a brother and sister-in-law, Harley and Bernie Grossmann of New Ulm; and by sisters-in-law, Rosalie Grossmann of New Ulm, Eleanor Grossmann of Searles, and Sylvia Bushore of Peoria, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Harold, Norbert and Willard Grossmann.
Robert was born on Dec. 31, 1932, in Linden Township, Brown County, to Robert and Josephine (Dauer) Grossmann. He graduated from the New Ulm Public High School in 1951. From 1953 until 1955 he served in the United States Army. On April 13, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joleen Hauer in Colorado Springs, Colo. After marriage they lived in New Ulm, where he was employed at Kraft Foods until his retirement in 1989. Robert enjoyed walking, traveling and going to flea markets. His love for sports lasted all of his life, as a player in his younger years and later as a spectator. He especially enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Oak Hills Living Center or to the donor's choice.
