Frank Crippen, 95, of Sanborn, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at United Methodist Church in Sanborn with burial in the city cemetery.
Visitation is 6:30-8:30 p.m., Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield and continues one hour before services Saturday at the church. There will be a Masonic service at 8:15 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by daughter, Dorothy Gransee of Sanborn; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was born April 16, 1907, in Gray Eagle, Minn., to Benjamin and Rose Etta (Story) Crippen.

Frank R. Hertling, 81, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Sunwood Good Samaritan Center in Redwood Falls.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the cemetery by Redwood Falls VFW, American Legion and National Guard units.
Visitation is is 4-8 p.m. Thursday with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and one hour before the Mass Friday at the church.

Verena 'Dottie' Bertha Krebs, 79, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in St, Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Dottie was born on September 4, 1923, in Mulligan Township, the daughter of Michael and Rose (Haala) Helget. She moved with her family to Leavenworth Township where she attended Quail Trap School. She married Donald H. Krebs on August 19, 1946, in Sleepy Eye. The couple farmed for 35 years in Leavenworth Township until they retired and moved to Sleepy Eye in 1982.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and the Christian Mothers. Dottie enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, cooking, embroidering and especially spending time with her family and visiting with children in the neighborhood.
She is survived by her son, Ronald W. Krebs of Minneapolis, daughters, Aleda and husband David Beranek and Colleen and husband Steve Zeig, all of New Ulm; five grandchildren, Bradley Beranek, Andy Beranek, Angie Beranek, Amanda Beranek and Kyle Krebs; sisters, Lorraine Haccherl of Sleepy Eye, Marion and husband Val Rathman of Comfrey, Ivona and husband Edwin F. Windschitl of Comfrey; and brother, LaMonte and wife Elaine Helget of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald.

James Kuehl, 63, died October 13, 2002, at Springfield Medical Center in Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2002, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton with Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 16, and on Thursday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton; and continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jim was born March 20, 1939, the son of Theodore (T.E.) and Gertrude (Anthonisen) Kuehl. He graduated from Lamberton High School in 1957 and attended the Minnesota School of Business. He worked at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Lamberton from 1958-1973 with time out to serve in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 at Walter Reed Amy Medical Center in Washington D.C. He owned and operated Kuehl's Clothing and Dry Cleaning for 15 years until becoming an independent over-the-road truck driver until December 2001, when he was diagnosed with cancer.
Jim married Judith Luttman on April 26, 1959, at Sharon Lutheran Church in Lamberton. The couple had two children, Jeff and Jon. Jim was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton and the Andrew Peterson American Legion Post 41. He was a former 20-year member of the Lamberton Fire Department, the Masons, and the Shriners, Jim (Governor) enjoyed visiting with everyone he met, fishing, hunting, and driving his semi. He especially enjoyed his four grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judith of Lamberton; two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Nichole Kuehl of Lady Smith, Wis., and Jonathan Kuehl of Owatonna; four grandchildren, Brittany, Andrew, McKenzie, and Gracie Kuehl; brothers and sisters, Marion and her husband Rutus Robbins of Winfield, Ill., Jim and his wife Shirley Luttman of Coon Rapids, Minn., Jerry and his wife Joanne Luttman of Redwood Falls, Minn., Jeanne and her husband Jim Eykyn of Minot, N.D., John and his wife Jane Luttman of Lamberton; and a brother-in-law, Bill Click of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, T.E. and Gertrude Kuehl; a sister, Norma Jean Click, and his mother and father-in-law, Ross and Arthora Luttman.

Lester 'Rudy' Lowinske, of 1720 Royal Circle, Naples, Fla., 34112, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Naples.
A memorial service will be held Friday in Naples.
He is survived by his wife, Lavern (Schiller) Lowinske of Naples; two sisters and one brother.

Steve Reinhart, 55, of 1120 Southridge Road, New Ulm, died Sunday, October 13, 2002, at his home after a courageous ten month battle with cancer.
Memorial Mass will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church. A parish prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to a reception at the New Ulm Country Club following the memorial service.
Steven R. Reinhart, the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Saffert) Reinhart, was born June 24, 1947, in Searles, Minnesota. He attended New Ulm public schools, graduating from New Ulm High School in 1965. He entered the United States Army May 13, 1968, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge on August 11, 1969, he returned home and attended Mankato State College. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Wanner on June 19, 1971, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He graduated from Mankato State in 1972. Steve had begun working for the New Ulm Journal at the age of 11. He owned and operated the New Ulm Shopper for several years. He started his own company, Ad Associates in 1981. The company eventually expanded to include Wide Area Classifieds and other subsidiaries. Steve was committed to youth and education, having volunteered for many programs and groups. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a member and past president of New Ulm Club and Sertoma Club. He was a member of the New Ulm Country Club, currently serving as president. He was a member of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Post 132. Dear to him were his coffee friends, his golfing foursome, the B & Mers, the Sheephead friends, and many many other special friends..
Survivors include his wife Marilyn; daughter, Shannon Frauenholtz and her husband Ben of New Ulm; sons, Kyle Reinhart of Edinburgh, Scotland, Michael Reinhart of Minneapolis; granddaughter, Abbey Frauenholtz; mother, Elizabeth Schaefer of New Ulm; brother, Dave Reinhart and his wife Joanne of Bloomington; sister, Lori Wilfahrt and her husband Jeff of Rosemount; mother-in-law, Eva Wanner of Dickinson, N.D.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and her husband Paul Fitterer, Benni Privratsky and her husband Richard, all of Dickinson, N.D., Emi Brennan and her husband Mark of Monrovia, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Don Wanner and his wife Robin and Toby Wanner, all of Missoula, Mont.; stepbrother, Mark Schaefer and his wife Sandy of Fairfax; stepsisters, Susan Schaefer of Minneapolis, Joni Heller and her husband Brian of Stillwater; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father Leo Reinhart; father-in-law Michael J. Wanner and stepfather-in-law, Henry Schaefer.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Ruth M. Hakes, 81, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center, Redwood Falls.
A private family service will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
She is survived by a daughter, Marcee Stromberg of Redwood Falls and a brother, Harold Kayser of South St. Paul.
She was born June 24, 1921, to Emily and Martha (Tramnitzky) Kayser in Pierre, S.D.

He is survived by wife, Irene of Redwood Falls; son, Daniel of Red Wing; daughters, Karen Kaufenberg of Spicer, Barbara Hertling of St. Louis, and Susan Kaufenberg of Minnetonka; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Lorena Nygard of Eveleth, Florence Westeberg of Bemidji, Bea Killian of Twin Cities, Alice Frank of New Ulm, Kate Ehler of Flandreau S.D., Rose Schwerin of Redwood Falls; and brother, Bernard Hertling of Redwood Falls.
He was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Guthrie, Minn., to Frank and Adelaide (Brown) Hertling.
He served in the Army during World War II.

Orville W. Kistner, 74, or rural Arlington, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arlington. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Kolden Funeral Home, Arlington and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Luella of Arlington; daughter, Vicky Singlestad of Waseca; three grandchildren; sisters, Cordella Husfeldt of Gaylord and Delores Jochum of Glencoe/

Cassandra Palacios, 14, of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Gaylord.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:20 a.m. Saturday at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, and at the church one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her parents, Alberto and Soraida Palacios of Gaylord, and a brother, Alberto J. Palacios Jr., of Gaylord.
She was born April 12, 1988, in Allenve, Mexico to Alberto and Soraida (Perales) Palacios.

Herbert Schirlinger, 82, of 1002 North Washington Street in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Cloud.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and will continue from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Herbert is survived by his wife Stella Schirlinger of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Odom of Cottage Grove, and her special friend, Mike Blees, and Betty and Joe Dauffenbach of North Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Bonnie Schirlinger of New Ulm, and Ron and Mary Ellen Schirlinger of River Falls, Wis.; three granddaughters; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Schirlinger, a resident of the Franklin Health Care Center in Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents; by sisters, Caroline Brandel and Agnes Prax; and by brothers, Edwin and Magnus Schirlinger.
Herbert was born on Nov. 30, 1919, in Foley, to Ludwig and Mary (Schmid) Schirlinger. He attended school at the St. Mary's Catholic School in New Ulm. On Nov. 14, 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army and served various places overseas as a radio operator. He was wounded in action while serving in the North Africa Theater, and received the Purple Heart. On July 23, 1945, he was honorably discharged and returned to New Ulm.
He married Stella Hanslick on Sept. 5, 1945, at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George. After marriage they lived in New Ulm and he worked at the Hauenstein Brewery. In 1950 they moved to a farm near Scandia, where they farmed for seven years before moving back to New Ulm. While back in New Ulm he owned and operated "Herbs Tavern" for several years. Later he worked at various jobs before becoming employed at Gopher Concrete, working there until he retired in 1982. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post No. 132 in New Ulm.

Rita Seifert, 75, of 309 West Street in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 - 10 a.m Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Rita is survived by her husband Christian Seifert of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law Diane and William Knopke of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Roman and Colleen Seifert, Thomas and Ann Seifert all of New Ulm; seven grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred Baker and Phyllis Westman of St. James, Leona Platz of Springfield, Patricia and Raymond Seifert of New Ulm, Melania and Delmar Meyer, Rosella and James Stimpert all of Sleepy Eye, Joyce and Gary Berg of Comfrey, Beatrice and Thomas Koop of Courtland; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eddie C. and Bernice Sellner of Springfield, Raymond Sellner and Mary De Geest of Miller, S.D., Paul and Helen Sellner of Sioux Falls, S.D., Florian 'Doyle' and Patricia Sellner, Larry 'Louie' and Sandra Sellner, all of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Ann Rodewald; four brothers-in-law; two nephews; one great-niece; and two sisters-in-law in infancy.
Rita Maria was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Albin Township, Brown County, to Edward and Mathilda (nee Seidl) Sellner. She attended country school in rural Sleepy Eye, and the St. Mary's Catholic School in Sleepy Eye. She worked at Peitrus Produce in Sleepy Eye for five years.
She married Christian Seifert on Sept. 1, 1948, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they farmed in Milford Township, Brown County, until retiring into New Ulm. She was actively involved in the farm operation and enjoyed gardening and canning. After moving to New Ulm she volunteered her time to her church in serving at funeral lunches, which she enjoyed immensely. She loved music, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
The family prefers memorials to the Way of the Cross, Cathedral, or to the American Cancer Society.

Milton P. Werner, 97, of Lamberton, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at Lamberton United Methodist Church with burial in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Friday, and 7:30-8:30 a.m., Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Lamberton and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his children, Ramona of Lamberton; and Joann Brosz of Le Sueur; and grandchildren.
He was born Jan. 6, 1905, to Ewald and Ella (Buscho) Werner in Marion, N.D.

Orville W. (Buddy) Kistner, 74, of rural Arlington, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington with burial with military honor in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday at Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to service at the church,

He was born on Aug.17, 1928, in Arlington Township to Fred and Wilhelmine (Laabs) Kistner.

Marjorie Maurer, 79, of Morgan died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7:30 p.m. today with a CCW rosary at 4:30 and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Morgan.
Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Morgan is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard "Bob" Maurer; sons, Jerry of Carlton, Craig of Northfield, Joel of Morgan, and Rick of Morgan; daughters, Sheila Schouviller of Corcoran and Colleen Seifert of New Ulm; 16 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Gilberton of Fulda.
She was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Fulda to Paul and Elizabeth (Quillin) Hogan.
