Michael Drill, 39, of Belle Plaine, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Belle Plaine High School Gymnasium.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Belle Plaine. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family of Michael Drill.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy of Belle Plaine; daughters, Tiffany and Stephanie of Belle Plaine; parents, Richard and Pearl of Courtland; brother, Marvin and wife Lisa of Corcoran; grandmother, Stella Drill of New Ulm; step-grandmother, Anna Drill of Mankato.
He was born Feb. 27, 1963, in New Ulm to Richard and Pearl (Kirkhart) Drill. He graduated in 1981 from Nicollet High School and later from Hamline University.
At the time of his death he was principal at Belle Plaine Junior High School.

Gertrude Mammenga, 84, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
She is survived by her daughter Marveen Drill of New Ulm; and a sister, Irene Keller of New Ulm. Gertrude Mammenga was born July 23, 1918, in Zeeland, N.D., to Gottlieb and Emilia (Heiser) Rempfer.

Louis "Jim" Brown, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial at a later date.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.

Virginia Meile. Funeral services for Virginia Meile, age 85, of Minneapolis, and formerly of New Ulm, will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at the Walker Methodist Health Center Chapel, 3737 Bryant Ave. S., Minneapolis, with burial 2 p.m. Monday in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the Chapel. Arrangements are with the Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel in Minneapolis.
Virginia was a pioneer teacher in distributive education in the Minneapolis Public Schools. She was also active in Young Republicans, Hennepin Avenue Methodist Church and New Ulm OES.
Virginia is survived by her brother Frederick (Dorothy); sister Patricia (Donald) Manning; nieces and nephews, Sheldon, Nancy, Patricia, Lee, Frederick, Jennifer, and Kathryn; as well as many other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Nellie Meile.

Earl W Griffiths, 101, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel in Springfield, with Rev. Carl Seamon and Chaplain Mary Pauluk officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Springfield. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service Friday at the Sturm Home. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 - 9 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
Earl was born Jan. 30, 1901, in Butternut Township in Blue Earth County, to John and Emma (Shelby) Griffiths. He grew up on a farm and attended country school. At the age of 17 he went to work for a dredging crew from Renville. After his father's death in the spring of 1925, he took over the operation of the family farm.
On June 19, 1932, he married Lydia Tomschin. The couple farmed in Bashaw Twp. from the early 1930s until her death in January of 1953. They had two children together, Charline and Kenneth. In February of 1958, he was married to Edna Prechel. They stayed in Bashaw Twp. until 1965, when they moved into Springfield.
Earl became a resident of St. John's Lutheran Home in June of 1995. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, playing the trumpet for local dances, reading, playing cards, following Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves Baseball and discussing politics. He is a former member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Springfield. He was also a former member of the Farm Bureau.
Earl is survived by his children, Charline and George Ware of Brandywine, Md., and Kenneth and Marylyn Griffiths of Auburndale, Fla., five, grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; Step-Children, Lorraine Szymanski, Betty Stockland, Sandra Brelje, Melvin Prechel, Henry Prechel, Norman Prechel, Eugene Prechel, Robert Prechel, Alfred Prechel and Dennis Prechel; and a nephew, Donovan Ellsworth. Earl is preceded in death by his parents, Emma and John; sister, Irene Ellsworth; first wife Lydia in 1953; and second wife Edna in 1989.

Karen Royer, 58, of Hanska, died Thursday evening, November 14, 2002 of pancreatic cancer at her home in rural Hanska.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, and 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Karen was born Nov. 30, 1943 to Norman and Ruth (Rathmann) Dahl in Marinette, Wis. She attended schools in Peshtigo, Wis., and upper Michigan, graduating from Marinette High School in 1961. She attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm and received a BS in Elementary Education from Mankato State University in 1969 and a MS in Curriculum and Instruction in 1979 from St. Scholastica's in Duluth.
Karen started her teaching career at St. John's Lutheran School in Fairfax. She taught in District #88 schools for 30 years, both at Washington Elementary and Hanska Elementary, serving on many district committees and representing Hanska Elementary on the NUEA executive board. She left District #88 to serve as director and teacher at Hanska Community School until retirement in June, 2001. She was named to the 2001 edition of Who's Who of Professional Educators. Upon her retirement she worked with her husband in running Royer Raspberry Farm which opened in the fall of 2001.
Karen was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hanska. She served as a Sunday School teacher and first Communion teacher as well as holding a variety of offices for the church and parish during her life. She was involved in the community of Hanska, serving as president of the Library Board and taking part in the annual Syttende Mai shows. The Hanska Business Association named her one of the volunteers of the year in 1997 and Woman of All Seasons in 1999. She served three terms as a member of the Brown County Library Board. She belonged to EdVisions co-operative, serving as secretary during her last year as a full-time educator. She has been a member of the Smile and Traverse de Sioux Boards and the Socrates Board.
Karen loved football, cheering for her home state Packers as well as the Vikings. She also enjoyed reading, music, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, embroidery, playing cards, and thrift store shopping with her daughters. She was especially pleased to have been influential in the formation of both Hanska Community Library and Hanska Community School because of their value to the education of children in her community.
Karen married Orville Royer December 14, 1965. He survives along with daughters Cora Hjelseth and her husband Jeremy of Mapleton, N.D., and Ida Royer and her special friend Nathan Bean of Seattle, Wash.; stepchildren Radburn Royer and his wife Tina of Pequot Lakes, MN, Denise Christensen and fiancee Greg Armbruster of Minneapolis, and Ross Royer and his wife Barb of Truman, MN; 9 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters. Also surviving are her brother David Dahl and his wife Mary of Appleton, WI, sisters Lynn Faber of West Allis, WI, Nancy Olson of Milwaukee, and Susan Sowatzke and her husband Bryon of Waukesha, WI, and sister-in-law Linda Dahl of Battle Creek, Michigan; brother-in-law Lyle Royer and his wife Marla of New Ulm, sisters-in-law Geneva Gluth of Phoenix, AZ, Doris Barker and her husband Calvin of Jeffers, and Elaine Barnes of Redwood Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Michael Dahl, who died in January, 2002 also of pancreatic cancer.

Louis "Jim" James Brown, 84, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Olivia.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10 a.m. Monday at Sturm Funeral Home. A parish prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen McFarland Brown of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Marsha Duval of Atlanta, Ga., Ruth Kelly of Shakopee; a son, Jim of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Mary Hoff of Maple Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
He was born May 13, 1918 in Knieram, Iowa to John E. and Susanna May Brown. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean War.

Robert L. "Bob" Dehncke, Sr., 63, of Morton, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at his home in Morton, after a long struggle with cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and at the church Tuesday one how prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Dehncke of Morton; Bob Dehncke, Jr. of Inver Grove Heights; a daughter, Julie Wendinger Fairfax; five grandchildren; sisters. Edna Mae Meuller and Judy Simning, both of Minneapolis; and brothers: Donald of Morton; Lloyd of Wichita, Kan.; Delbert of Topeka, Kan.; and David and Gary, both of Minneapolis.
He was born May 23, 1939 in Redwood Falls to William and Mildred (Wilhite) Dehncke.

Bernard 'Benny' Fischer, 70, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Springfield, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth, with burial in the church cemetery will military honors.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-9 a.m. Thursday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and at the church one hour prior to the service. There will be a family rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m., both Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters, JeanNosbusch of Fairfax, Robert Fischer of Ocean Side, Calif., Richard Fischer of Denver, Colo., Marilyn Klein of Wilmington, N.C., Phyllis Shaw of Traverse City, Mich., and Jerry Fischer of Springfield.
He was born June 6,1932 to Bernard and Mary (Lenertz) Fischer in Springfield.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a surveyor for two years.

Willard O. Wardlow, 76, of Montgomery, Texas, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at his residence in Montgomery.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. today at the Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel in Selmer, Tenn. with burial in the Lake Hill Memory Garden in Bethel Springs, Tenn.
He is survived by daughters, Rhonda Dix of Ramer, Tenn., and Brenda Jarvis of Montgomery; a son, Mike Wardlow of Montgomery; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Voneda Howard of Michie, Tenn., and Archie Thompson of Grand Junction, Tenn.

Benedict 'Benny' Byer, 87, of 1215 North Minnesota Street in New Ulm died Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Benny is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Gary Kohn of rural Courtland, Linda Tauer of New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law, Norbert Byer, Gene and Brenda Byer all of New Ulm; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Joan Byer of Vista, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Helen Byer, on June 23, 1996.
He was born on April 17, 1915, in New Ulm to John and Rose (Lang) Byer. On June 22, 1940, he married Helen Iverson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. He was a mechanic and partsman at Martinka Motors in New Ulm and later worked as a machinist at New Ulm Manufacturing and later at Ray-Go Manufacturing in New Ulm. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be given to Oak Hills Living Center or donor's choice.

Joseph 'Sep' Peter Hauser, 80, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002. at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with Frs. Brian Ostreich and David Breu officiating.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a Catholic Aid rosary at 5 p.m. and a parish service at 7 p.m. at the home.
He is survived by sisters, Marcella Bushard of New Ulm, Margaret Breu of Searles, Lucille Brandel and husband Vince of New Ulm; brother-in-law Stanley Portner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Petronilla Portner; and brothers-in-law, Stanley Bushard and Larry Breu.
Sep was born on Sept. 17, 1922, in rural Sleepy Eye, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Breignzer) Hauser. He grew up in Home Township and attended District 23 country school. He later attended St. Mary's School for two years. After he completed his schooling, Sep lived and farmed east of Sleepy Eye in Home Township for many years. He moved to Sleepy Eye in October of 2001. Sep was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Aid Association. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Marion Lynch, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at United Methodist Church in Arlington with burial in Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to the church service Tuesday.
She is survived by her children, Mary Hennies of Arlington, Sheila Arneson of Arlington, Nancy Lynch of Arlington; Sheila Olson of Prior Lake; Keith Olson of Excelsior; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was born on June 30, 1912, in Arlington, to Charles F. and Capitola (Dodge) Maurer.

Alan McCorquodale, 72, of Morton, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002, at his home in Morton.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at St. John's Catholic Church in Morton, with burial at the Redwood Falls Cemetery in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service today at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his sons, Mike McCorquodale of Franklin, Dave McCorquodale of Winona, Steve McCorquodale of Paynesville, Ross McCorquodale of Franklin, and William McCorquodale of Winona; daughters, Carol McCorquodale of Stewartville, and Katherine Hutchinson of Redwood Falls; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Alan David McCorquodale was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Redwood Falls, to David and Rose (Yonetz) McCorquodale.

Willard 'Willie' Fenske, 62, of Mankato, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Woodland Hills Chapel In Mankato, with burial at Timberon Memorial Park in Timberon, N.M., at a later date.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. today at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the time of service on Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife Judith of Mankato; daughter Angel Meyer of Emmons; brother Melroy of Mankato; and sisters, Lorna Rassmussen of Osseo, and Caroline Pelzel of Duluth.
He was born Jan. 11, 1940, in Gibbon, to Ernest and Leona (Jahnke) Fenske.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from Jan. 8, 1960, to May 10, 1962.

Henrietta J. Kuhlman, 89, of Onamia, formerly of Comfrey, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002, at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wahkon, Minn., with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Hogan Mille Lacs Funeral Home, Isle.
She is survived by sisters, Odelia Pihlstrom of Arlington and Emelda Edmunds of Encino, Calif.
She was born April 21, 1913 to Joseph E. and Catherine Helget in Mulligan Township, Comfrey.
