Carl "Arvid" Larson, 91, of 827 Ash Avenue in Gibbon, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Arvid is survived by his wife Maxine Larson of Gibbon; daughters and son-in-law, Margaret Larson, Mary and Cal Roberts all of Gibbon; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Carol Larson, Mark and Jan Larson all of Gibbon; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edmund Larson, Orville and Della Larson all of Winthrop, and Esther Huffman of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ernest Larson; and sisters and brother-in-law, Ardella Larson, Luella and Gunnar Davidson.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1910, in Cornish Township, Sibley County, to Otto and Anna (Anderson) Larson. On Dec. 14, 1946, he married Maxine Huffman at the Congregational Church in Winthrop. After marriage they farmed in Cornish Township, Sibley County, and moved to Gibbon in 1993. He was a past member of the Gibbon Lions Club and was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

Ross C. Lussenhop, 82, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 at the Redwood Area Hospital, Redwood Falls.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls with burial at a later date.
Visitation will be Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Redwood Falls; sons, Ross and Jack of Prior Lake; daughters, Tera Elias of Plymouth, Jill Punch of St. Cloud, Jane Hayman of St. Cloud, Mary Sparrowgrove of Sitka, Ak. and Dana Garvey of St. Paul; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister, LaVonne Heimann of Lamberton.
He was born July 30, 1920 in Redwood Falls to Harvey and Anne (Cane) Lussenhop.
Arrangements are with Nelson-Martin Funeral Service, Redwood Falls.

Ferris L. Jeppesen, 92, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, at the Fairfax Nursing Home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday with a Masonic Service at 5:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Redwood Falls; a daughter, Mary A. Davis of St. Cloud; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was born May 2, 1910, in Evan, to Julius and Celia (Hansen) Jeppesen.

Elma M. Nyers, 94, of Gibbon died Friday, November 22, 2002 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Monday and 7:30 - 10 AM Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Elma is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Melvin and Genny Neyers of rural Gibbon; her grandchildren, Lena and David Rathke, Connie and Dan Zweber, Alan Neyers, Maria Neyers and Bill Kapolczynski, Paul Neyers and Mona Fraki, Gary Neyers, Kala Neyers and Greg Gaalswyck; six great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Zaske of Wadena; and by a sister-in-law, Ines Lochner of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; five brothers.
Elma was born March 19, 1908 in Home Township, Brown County to William and Ida (Zimanski) Lochner. She married Norbert Neyers on November 18, 1937 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they farmed in Home Township, Brown County. They purchased a farm in Severance Township, Sibley County in 1950. They farmed there until 1976 when they retired and moved to Gibbon. She was a member of the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon and the Council of Catholic Women.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. Willibrord's handicap entrance fund.

Betty Jean Kosek. Former New Ulm and Nicollet resident Betty Jean Kosek died Saturday, November 23, 2002 at her home after a courageous battle with Cancer. She was first diagnosed with Cancer on November 5, 2002. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Cambria Cemetery in Cambria Township, Blue Earth County. Visitation is 5 - 7 p.m. Monday and from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Betty was born on February 29, 1944 to Harold and Henrietta (Rehwinkel) Hartwigsen of New Ulm. She was a 1962 graduate of New Ulm High School. She married Richard Kosek on July 1, 1962. They lived for several years in New Ulm where Betty worked at Ben Franklin, Coast to Coast and Shanus Plumbing & Heating. They later moved to Nicollet and then rural Courtland. For many years Betty was a partner at Nicollet Plumbing & Heating before enjoying employment in New Accounts at Carlson Craft Social. Betty loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Betty also enjoyed wildlife and collecting salt water fish.
Betty is survived by her husband, Richard Kosek of rural Courtland; a brother, Eldon Hartwigsen and his wife, Ruth of New Ulm; two daughters and their husbands, Candace and Jeffrey Latourelle of St. Peter, and Robin and Charles Bandow of Courtland; seven grandchildren, Shanna Kent and her husband, John of New Ulm, Amber Weller, Amanda Latourelle, Abbey Latourelle all of St. Peter, Cassie Bandow, Cotey Bandow and Cyle Bandow all of Courtland; a great-grandchild, Devon Zimmerman of St. Peter; and her aunt, Betty Rehwinkel of Madelia. Her father and mother preceded her in death. She will be greatly missed by all that love her.

Paul Peterson, 31, of Brooklyn, New York, and formerly of New Ulm, died from a heart attack on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the North Shore University Hospital in Plainview, New York.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 7:30 until noon on Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and then for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
He is survived by his mother, Joyce Rodewald and her husband, Ron of New Ulm; his father, Steven Peterson and his wife, Elena, of New Ulm; a brother, Chet Peterson, of Glendale, California; sisters, Jenna and Katie Rodewald of New Ulm; his grandparents, Norman and Linda Wieland, of New Ulm; and by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dolores and Leo Peterson.
Paul was born on April 16, 1971, in New Ulm to Steven and Joyce (Wieland) Peterson. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School in the class of 1989. After high School he attended Mankato State University in Mankato for one year.
He then worked in Mankato for four years before moving to Colorado living in various places there until May of this year when he moved to Brooklyn, New York. He had worked in construction while living in Colorado and was currently working in construction doing carpentry work in New York. He loved playing guitar, and while in high school he and several friends formed a band called "Broken Toyz." He continued playing in several different bands while living in Colorado and New York. Paul loved snowboarding and playing hockey.

Virgil Sandquist, 85, of Minneapolis, formerly of Lafayette, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Fairview Southdale Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Minneapolis, with burial at Pleasant View Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his brother, Arnold of Lafayette; sister, Dolores Lueck of Lafayette.
He was born July 30, 1917, to Ben and Otillia (Lundberg) Sanquist.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Arthur J. Schmidt, 85, formerly of New Ulm, died Nov. 22, 2002, at the Resurrection Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Park Ridge, Ill..
Arthur was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Linden Township to Henry and Louise (Stueber) Schmidt. He moved to Chicago in 1978 to live with his sister Lillian, where he resided until his heart attack in March 2001. He was in intensive care two weeks. He survived, but remained in ill health, then was transferred to the Resurrection Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Park Ridge, Ill., where he remained a resident until Nov. 22, 2002, when he passed away.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and was in the Philippines. Arthur came back to New Ulm and worked as a farm hand and also painted buildings at farm places.
He is survived by one sister, Lillian Schmidt of Chicago and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 547 and the Disabled American Veterans of Chicago. He enjoyed old-time concertina music and dancing.
Arthur will be cremated and the remains buried at Abraham Lincoln Veterans National Cemetery in Joliet, Ill, on Nov. 27, 2002.

Roy Bossenecker, 93, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at the Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 29, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Jeffers.
Visitation will be 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
He was born July 14, 1909, in German Township, Cottonwood County, to Fred and Bertha (Pooch) Bossenecker.

Sylvester Huiras
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Sylvester Huiras, 94, of Columbia, Mo., and formerly of rural Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at South Hampton, Columbia, Mo.
Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, Mo.
Sylvester is survived by his wife Gertrude Huiras; son Richard J. Huiras of Houston, Texas; daughters, Pat Tauer and Kathy Huiras-Bruner, both of Columbia, Ga.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Sylvester J. Huiras was born July 13, 1908, in Brown County, to John and Barbara (Holm) Huiras.

Rev. Frederic Nitz, 80, of Watertown, Wis., and formerly of New Ulm, was called to his heavenly home, unexpectedly, on Monday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2002, at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown, Wis., with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery in Watertown, Wis. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown, Wis., and will continue10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church.
Frederic H. Nitz was born May 12, 1922, to Rev. H.C. and Alma (Pingel) Nitz. He was baptized at the home of his grandfather, Louis Pingel in Watertown, Wis. He was married to Grace Wetzel Aug. 1, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistadt, Wis.
Frederic graduated from the former Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, Wis., in 1940, and the former Northwestern College in 1944. Following graduation from college, he was called to teach for one year at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Green Bay, Wis., and in 1946 also taught a half year at East Fork Lutheran School, Whiteriver, Ariz. He returned to his studies and graduated from the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon in 1948.
Frederic served in the following Wisconsin Synod congregations: Church of the Open Bible, Whiteriver, Ariz., and Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Cibicue, Ariz., from 1948-1952; the dual parish of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hendricks, Minn., and St. John's Lutheran Church in Arco, Minn., from 1952-1955; the tri-parish of Christ Lutheran Church, Cochrane, Wis., Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Buffalo City, Wis., and Zion Lutheran Church of Cream, Wis., from 1955-1959; St. John's Lutheran Church of New Ulm, from 1959-1978; and Our Savior Lutheran Church of Sun City, Ariz., from 1978-1993. He and his wife retired to Watertown, Wis. He served on the Apache Committee of the World Mission Board of the Wisconsin Synod from 1959-1989 and the board of the Lutheran Home Association in Belle Plaine.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown, Wis., and a member of the Organization of WELS Lutheran Seniors. He enjoyed singing with the Meanerchor. Rev. Nitz enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time in his workshop.
He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
Frederic is survived by his wife Grace Nitz of Watertown, Wis.; daughters, Gloria (Jerry) Sydow of Garden Grove, Calif., and Margaret (Mark) Metz of Woodbridge, Va.; sons, Rev. Daniel (Mary) Nitz of Burlington, Wis., and Rev. Jonathan (Stephanie) Nitz of New Berlin, Wis.; sisters, Ramona Heikkinen of Tower, and Naomi (Rev. Ray) Schultz of Mankato; brothers, Joel (Irene) Nitz of Hot Springs, Ark., the Rev. Paul (Carol) Nitz of Hartland, Wis., and the Rev. Marcus (Marguerite) Nitz of Placentia, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Wilmer (Arleen) Wetzel of Mequon, Wis., and the Rev. Oliver Wetzel of Wadsworth, Ill.; grandchildren, Vicki Sydow (Scott) Sage, Adam, Amy, Aaron and Amanda Nitz; Eric Metz, Joshua, Caleb and Marah Nitz; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, James Nitz; two sisters-in-law, Marion Bittorf and Margaret Wetzel; two brothers-in-law, Wallace Heikkinen and the Rev. Reinhard Bittorf.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Mark's Appache Mission in East Fork, Ariz.

William L. 'Bill' Schugel, 63 of Mankato, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 30, at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Mankato, with Rev. John Wilmot officiating.
Visitation is Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before services at church on Saturday.
Mr. Schugel was born February 7, 1939, in Grand Rapids, MN to Louis and Olga (Franccschetti) Schugel.
He is survived by his wife, Verena Schugel of Mankato; three sons, Joachim Schugel and his wife, Leeann of Sheboygan, WI; Oliver Schugel and his wife, Monica of Mankato, Mario Schugel of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Richard and Joan Schugel,of Richfield; and two nieces.

Brooks Sellner, age 22, of Sleepy Eye, MN, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 as the result of an auto accident South of Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, MN, with internment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, MN. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Brooks was born on September 4, 1980 in Sleepy Eye, MN, the son of Melvin E. & Ruth (Krueger) Sellner. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1999. Brooks attended vocational school in Pipestone for a year and a half. After his schooling he worked for BCA Products in Sleepy Eye until the present. Brooks was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Brooks enjoyed spending time with his friends, family and his fiancee, Jody.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Sellner of Sleepy Eye, brothers, Eric & Nina Sellner of Owatonna, Shawn & Marsha Sellner of Sleepy Eye, and Paul & Chris Sellner of Fremont, Wl, sister, Susan & Alan "Whitey" Hinderman of Fairfax, many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, fiancee, Jody Borth of Sleepy Eye and maternal grandmother, Viola Krueger of Sleepy Eye. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin "Specks" Sellner in 1999, grandparents, Mary and Louie Sellner and grandfather, Leo Krueger.

Helen Breithaupt, 81, of Las Cruces, NM, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm. Burial will be Monday afternoon at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Helen (Bess) Artley, the daughter of John Kenneth and Ruth (Janney) Artley, was born November 25, 1921 in Dundee, Michigan. She graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, MI, and Eastern Michigan University. She taught elementary school for several years. Bess was united in marriage to Dr. Richard J. Donnelly on December 7, 1944 in Monroe. They moved to Minnesota in 1954, making their home in the twin cities area. Her husband died in 1969. She married Dr. Erwin M. Breithaupt in 1974. They made their home in Ripon, WI and Las Cruces, NM. Her husband died in 1991. She moved to New Ulm in 1999 to be near her children.
Survivors include daughters, Peg Merriman and her husband Steve of Golden Valley, Anne Donnelly-Rieke and her husband Sheldon of New Ulm; son, Dick Donnelly and his wife Linda of Minnetonka; stepdaughter, Bonnie Dejewski and her husband Jim of Waukesha, WI; ten grandchildren; brother, John Artley of Hot Springs, NC; sisters, Ruthanne Raulerson of Bedford, NH, Edna Howard of Sturgis, MI; nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or local Relay for Life Chapters.

Amanda Junker, 86, of Comfrey, died on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church-Mountain Lake, with burial at Mountain Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Bjerum Funeral Home, Mountain Lake, and one hour prior to services at the church.
