Marlin Schaeffler, 62, of 1010 North Washington in New Ulm died Friday, December 20, 2002 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. John's Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Marion Schaeffler of New Ulm; daughter, Marilyn Schaeffler and her fiance, Kyle Juve both of Mankato; a son, Michael Schaeffler of Melrose; sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Roger Funk of Cedar; a special grandson and his mother, Jared Tanley and Dana Tanley of New Ulm; mother-in-law, Lucille Johnson of Winthrop; and a sister-in-law, Ellen Johnson of Winthrop. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Marie Reiser.
Marlin was born on August 15, 1940 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Arthur and Clara (Drexler) Schaeffler.
He attended Holy Trinity School in New Ulm. He had served in the U.S. Navy. On April 23, 1966 he married Marion Johnson at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Winthrop. After marriage they lived in New Ulm and he was employed for over 35 years at B.F. Goodrich in New Ulm. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the St. John's Court #698, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm.

Arthur Stone, 86, of New Ulm, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial with military honors at Lake Hanska Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hanska.
Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to services at the church. Charity Lodge 98 A.F.&A.M. will conduct a masonic service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Samuel A. Wittwer, 81, of Redwood Falls, died on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Three Links Care Center, Northfield.
Services are 10 a.m. today at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial at Crestwood Memorial Gardens, rural Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 9-10 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by Nelson Martin Funeral Service, Redwood Falls.
He is survived by sons, Jim Wittwer of Redwood Falls and the Rev. Timothy Wittwer of Foley; daughters, Kathy Bradley of Farmington, NM, Sonya Enabnit of Gilbert, Ariz., and Pam Young of Northfield; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Merry Ellen Kammer, Gertrude Wittwer and Blanche Kruse, all of Wabasso, and Enid Guggisberg of Redwood Falls.
He was born Jan. 12, 1921 in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Samuel and Ellen (Kline) Wittwer.

Mabel Reinhart, 84, of 1112 South Franklin in New Ulm, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mabel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Gene Schumacher of Arlington, Janice and Gene Yonkovich of Cave Creek, Ariz., Bonnie and Glenn A. Bode of Courtland, Karen (Mitzi) Warning of Kasota, and Cheryl Reinhart of New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Linda Reinhart of Courtland; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Beilke of Morgan; and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Helen Kuester of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Walter J. Reinhart on July 25, 1997; and a sister, Mildred Beilke.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1918, in New Ulm, to Carl and Martha (Guse) Kuester. On Sept. 4, 1939, she married Walter J. Reinhart at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, until 1971, when they moved into New Ulm. She earned her lifetime goal of becoming an LPN in the late 1960s. She then worked as a LPN at the Highland Manor Nursing Home in New Ulm, and later worked at B.F. Goodrich in New Ulm. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. The family prefers memorials be given in lieu of flowers.

Arthur Stone, 86, of 715 S. German St. in New Ulm, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with Rev. Jon Anderson officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Veteran's Organizations and Hanska American Legion will follow at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hanska.
Visitation will be from 2 - 6 p.m. today at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Charity Lodge No. 98 A.F. & A.M. will conduct a masonic service at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Arthur Frederick Stone, the son of Carl and Julia (Brude) Stone, was born Sept. 19, 1916, in New Ulm. The family moved to Minneapolis, where they lived several years, before returning to the family farm in Lake Hanska Township. Following his graduation from Hanska High School in 1935, Art attended the University of Minnesota. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a B-24 Liberator bomber pilot, was stationed in Italy, was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross.
He returned from Europe to marry Lorraine Chalin on Oct. 14, 1914. The couple lived in Langly, Va., while he completed his military duty. They moved to Minneapolis, where he was an airline pilot for Northwest Airlines before returning to rural St. James, where they farmed for six years.
In 1953, he purchased Camelsback Hatchery in New Ulm. He was named Brown County Civil Defense Director, Planning and Zoning Coordinator and County Park Administrator in 1967. He assisted in the development of the first county park at Lake Hanska. Following his retirement in 1982, the couple continued to make their home in New Ulm. His wife died Oct. 19, 1986.
Art was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Charity Lodge No. 98 A.F. & A.M., Royal Arch Masons, Zurah Shrine and Orient Chapter No. 60, Order of the Eastern Star. He was past commander of the American Legion and a member of DAV. He served on the board of Sunset Homes and at one time was squadron commander of the New Ulm Civil Air Patrol.
Survivors include daughters, Candy Hansen and her husband Mike of Pflugerville, Texas, Pam Thomas and her husband Dave of Idaho Springs, Colo., and Patty Young and her husband Bob of Madelia; son Gregg Stone and his wife Kari of St. Peter; 10 grandchildren; brother, Lloyd Stone and his wife Evelyn of Madelia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Art was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Stone in 1985; and sister-in-law, Esther Stone in 1998.

Otto Koehler, 87, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at home.
Services are 10:30 Tuesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in Wheaton.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements by Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls.

Kenneth E. Brand, 70, of Glenview, Ill., formerly of New Ulm, died early Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, a day after having quadruple heart bypass surgery.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Glenview, Ill., with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 3 - 9 p.m. today at the Scott Funeral Home in Glenview, Ill.
He is survived by brothers, Robert Brand of New Ulm, Donald Brand of New Ulm, and Marvin Brand of Plymouth; sisters, Phyllis Schmitz of New Ulm, Marlys Drill of New Ulm, LaDonna Kissner of St. Cloud, and Doris Guemmer of St. Cloud; and 10 children, mostly in the Chicago area.
Kenneth Brand was born Jan. 6, 1932, in New Ulm, to Joseph and Sophia Brand.

Kraig Kromer, 58, of Winthrop, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop, with burial in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements by Dalin Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop.

Otto Koehler, 87, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls.
Funeral services are at 10: 30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 24, at the church with burial at Wheaton, Minn., at a later date.
He was born on May 16, 1915, to Ferdinand and Dorothy (From) Koehler, in Shelby, Mont.

Kraig Kromer, 58, of Winthrop, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 23, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church today.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette Kromer of Winthrop; children, Ryan Kromer of Minneapolis, Danielle Kromer of North Mankato, Andrea Kromer of Fullerton, Calif., Erica Kromer of North Mankato, Michelle Kromer of North Mankato, Jennifer Kromer of Winthrop, and Joelle Kromer of Winthrop; two grandchildren; brother Keith Kromer of Plymouth; and sisters, Kristen Bergeson of Texas, and Kathleen Baker of Hawaii.
Kraig Orlando Kromer was born Sept. 27, 1944, in Minneapolis, to Orlando and Manita (Rosengren) Kromer. He served in ROTC in college and on active duty in the U.S. Army. He later served part time in the Army Reserves.

Helen Prax, 96, of Fairfax, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Internment will be the St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Cairo Township.
Visitation will begin 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Andrew's Catholic in Fairfax, and run until the time of service.
Helen Barbara (Schnichels) Prax was born April 19, 1906, to Matt and Eva (Froembgen) Schnichels in Hector. She was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector.
She married Wenzel Prax on Sept. 20, 1927, in Hector. After marriage, they lived in Franklin, Gibbon, and settled in Fairfax, in 1936. She and her husband owned and operated the Red Star Café and Peoples Meat Market. She worked at the Winthrop Bakery for several years.
She was a member of St. Andrew's Church and active in CCW, Christian Mothers and St. Mary Society. She was a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and foreign countries, her flower gardens, playing cards with friends and cooking for weddings and family.
Helen is survived by her sons, Robert Prax and his wife Dorothy of Fairfax, Wesley Prax and his wife Doris of Fairfax, Warren Prax of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Roger Prax and his wife Judy of Ukiah, Calif.; daughters, Vietta Brightwell and her husband Lonnie of Springfield, Mo., and Bernadette Boyum of Fairfax; 25 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Floyd Schultz; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Wenzel; parents; seven brothers and sisters; daughter-in-law Marianne Prax; and son-in-law Dennis Boyum.

Donald J. Bode, 73, of Tempe, Ariz., and formerly of Courtland, died Dec. 20, 2002.
Services were held Monday at Tempe Mortuary.
He is survived by wife Anita (Beck) Bode; son, Douglas Bode of California; daughter, Doreen Mattes of Apache Junction, Ariz; brother, Elton Bode of Courtland; sisters, Cornelia Mielke of Courtland and Elfrieda Thom of Courtland; and three grandchildren.
He was born May 12, 1929, in Courtland to Samuel and Sophie Bode.

Kenneth Brand, 70, of Glenview, Ill., formerly of New Ulm, died early Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, a day after having quadruple heart bypass surgery.

Kenneth Brand was born Jan. 6, 1932, in New Ulm, to Joseph and Sophia Brand.
He was the loving father of Steve (Maureen) Brand, Debbie (Stephen) Trouard, Peter (Theresa) Brand, Dennis Brand, Mary Kay (Chuck) Bergdahl, Ann Biernacki, Paul (Janet) Brand, Jerry (Donna) Brand, Tom Brand and the late Patrick Brand; beloved grandfather of 19; cherished brother of Phyllis (Eugene) Schmitz, Marlys Drill, Joleen (Warren) Jorgensen, LaDonna Kissner, Doris (Wesley) Guemmer, Carol (Jim) Kruggel, Diane (Cole) Carley, Robert (Lucille) Brand, Donald (Myrtle) Brand, Marvin Brand, Curtis (Judy) Brand, David Brand, Gerald (Diane) Brand, and Lowell Brand; and uncle of many nieces and nephews.
The family expresses their appreciation for the kind care of the physicians and nurses at Lutheran General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 30 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 2015, Chicago, IL 60602 or Notre Dame High School, 7655 Dempster, Niles, IL 60714.

Arthur J. Hanold, 91, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at the Redwood Falls Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at Nelson Martin Funeral Home, with burial in Boaz, Wis., at a later date.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by a son, Arthur, of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; a daughter Donna K. Potter of LaLuz, N.M.; and two grandchildren.
He was born Nov. 2, 1911, to James and Anna (Kaiser) Hanold.

Alexander 'Allie' Hansch, 82, of Brownton, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Brownton.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton.
Arrangements are with Hantge Funeral Chapel in Brownton.
Alexander "Allie" Hansch was born on Dec. 2, 1920, in St. Paul to Samuel and Mary (Altergott) Hansch.
Allie is survived by wife, Cora Hansch of Brownton; children, Jim Hansch of Brownton, Darrell Hansch of Glencoe, and Joel Hansch of Stewart; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Samuel Hansch of Winthrop; and sisters, Emma Ellig of Gaylord and Helen Hahn of Casper, Wyo.

Katherine Reger, 95, of Minneapolis and formerly of Fairfax, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at St. Olaf Residence in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Arrangements are handled by Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Fairfax.

Terrance 'Terry' Wall, 65, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his children, Terrance R. Wall of Minneapolis; Kelly Wall of South St. Paul, Tony Wall of Detroit Lakes, Joe Wall of Hampton, Angie Wall of Eagan, Chris Wall of Albertville, Nicholas Wall of Renville, Amanda Wall of Granite Falls, and Jacob Wall of Kandiyohi.
He was born Aug. 26, 1937, in South St. Paul to Blaine and Mary (Chmelousky) Wall.

Randy Wiederich, 41, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Redwood Area Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with burial at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
He is survived by his mother Kathryn Wiederich of Redwood Falls; sister Lori Rebstock of Franklin; brothers, David Wiederich of Biloxi, Miss., Brian Wiederich of Le Sueur, and Michael of St. Paul.
Randy Wiederich was born June 5, 1961, to Howard and Kathryn (Doble) Wiederich in Bertha.
