Sanford A. Gaard, 79, of rural Trimont, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at Good Samaritan Center in Jackson.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at Sherburn Baptist Church. Burial with full military honors will be in Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, rural Trimont.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Freda of rural Trimont; three sons, Christian of Hazel, S.D., Robert of New Ulm; Sanford Jr. of Odin; four daughters, Mary Huber of rural Trimont, Donna Holtz of Trimont, Barbara McDonald of Welcome and Ann Olson of Winthrop; eight grandchildren; a sister, Olga Ochsendorf of Canby.
He was born Dec. 21, 1923 to Christian and Martha (Hauscen) Gaard in Canby. He joined the U.S. Army in 1943, served in World War II and was wounded in Germany in 1944. He was discharged in 1945.

Mabel F. Heise, 94, formerly of Canby, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2002, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Services wil be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Canby, with burial in the Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls, S.D..
Visitation will be held at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. The Birk Funeral Home in Candy is handling arrangements.
Survivors include his sons, Don Engel of Huron, S.D., and Bill Engel of Dassel.

Marlyn Olson, 71, of Hector, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector with burial in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Monday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Leonard P. Brazil, 90, of Arlington, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington, with burial in the St. Brendan Catholic Cemetery in Green Isle.
Visitation is 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 - 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington.
He is survived by his sons, Lee Brazil of Chaska, Robert Brazil of Bloomington, John Brazil of Minneapolis, and Thomas Brazil of Watertown, S.D.; daughters, Elizabeth Teal of Phoenix, Ariz., and Margaret Bauer of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Oma Monahan of Arlington, and Veronica Taubman of Brooklyn Park; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Leonard P. Brazil was born Feb. 25, 1912, in Green Isle, to Patrick and Sara (Mulligan) Brazil.

He is survived by his daughter Laurie Klawitter of Hutchinson; stepchildren, Kent Woodcock of Willmar, Kurt Woodcock of Loveland, Colo., and Kathy Mulligan of Granite Falls; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister Joyce Christen of Decorah, Iowa.
Marlyn LaVerne Olson was born Dec. 6, 1931, in Bricelyn, to Joseph and Fern (Ellertson) Olson.

Charles J. Kissner, 73, of Franklin, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Franklin Healthcare Center, Franklin.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is Wednesday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his brother, Curtis of Springfield; and a sister, Marlys Schumacher of Springfield.
He was born March 26, 1929, in Eden Township, Brown County, to John H. and Elizabeth (Kunze) Kissner.

Ramona Meier, 67, formerly of Stewart, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Stewart.
Visitation is Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are handled by Hughes Funeral Home.

Lori Ann O'Neil, 36, of Sleepy Eye, MN, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at her home.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial in Decoria Cemetery, Decoria Township, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye and continue one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
Lori was born on Jan. 22, 1966, in Mankato, Minn. She grew up and attended school in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato East High School in 1984 and was active in the church youth group in high school. She married Tim O'Neil on Oct. 31, 1987, in Mankato. They had lived in Sleepy Eye since 2000. Lori worked part-time at Herberger's since 1999. She was a. member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye where she taught Sunday School the past two years. Since moving back to Minnesota, Lori has worked at Riverbend Day Treatment where she loved being involved in the kids' lives. The last year she was a dispatcher with Sleepy Eye Bus Lines.
Lori is survived by her husband, Tim O'Neil of Sleepy Eye, children, Matthew, Mason and Molli, all of Sleepy Eye, parents, Royce and Claudia Sohre of Good Thunder, mother-in-law, Dorothy O'Neil of Waseca, grandparents, Claude and Sophie Ziegler of Rapidan, Harold Franz of Mankato, Elmer and Lela Sohre of Good Thunder; brother, Russell and Stephanie Sohre of Good Thunder, brothers-in-law, Jim and Jan O'Neil of Faribault, Jon and Vicki O'Neil of Waseca, Mike and Judy O'Neil of Waseca, Dan O'Neil of Waseca, sisters-in-law, Patricia and Frank Demonte of Park Ridge, Ill., and Karen and James Nesius of Lake Park, Minn., 19 nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her birth father, Marvin Franz; grandmother, Esther Franz; nephew, Shea O'Neil and father-in-law, Dallas O'Neil.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Mervin Chester Reed, 65, of Grand Junction, Colo., and formerly of Courtland, died Dec. 29, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, at Orchard Mesa Christian Church in Colorado. Memorial service for family and friends will be 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, with a 2:30 p.m. prayer and memory service, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland.
Mervin is survived by his wife Sharon Reed; daughters, Tamara Jenkins of Englewood, Colo., and Victoria Elizondo of Grand Junction, Colo.; sister Gerry Hildebrandt of St. Peter; brother Craig Reed of Brighton, Colo.; and one granddaughter.

Darrel J. Koch, 75, of Lamberton, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003 at Valley View Manor, Lamberton.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003 at Highwater Lutheran Church, Lamberton with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Weber of Windom; a sister and Valeta of Westbrook.
He was born Jan. 27, 1927 in rural Westbrook to Rudolph and Clara (Taarud) Koch. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 15, 1946 and served until Aug. 26, 1946.

Lunita 'Lou' Meidl, 95, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Friday and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Lunita is survived by her sister Adela "Dale" Herzog of New Ulm.
Lunita was born Sept. 8, 1907, in New Ulm, to Anton V. and Katherine (Macho) Kopetzki.

Ramona Meier, 67, formerly of Stewart, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran. Church in Stewart.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Arrangements with Hughes Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband Floyd Meier of Hutchinson; children, James Meier of Brooklyn Center, Michael Meier of Hutchinson, Daniel Meier of Minneapolis; one granddaughter; brothers, Ronald Ranzau of Maple Grove, Roger Ranzau of Lakeville; and sisters: Rhonda Burge of Hutchinson, Rozanne Powers of St. Peter.
Ramona Elsie Meier was born. Sept, 4, 1935, in Hamburg, Minn., to Edward and Elsie (Zieman) Ranzau.

Lorna Ziegler, 88, of Green Isle, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Services are 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Isle, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington, and continues one hour before the service at the church.
She is survived by children, Eldrene Ebert of Gaylord, Donald Ziegler of Green Isle, Diane Nelson of Alexandria, Mavis Flemig of Waconia; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister Regina Olson of Cokato.
She was born April 3, 1914, in Helen Township, McLeod County, to William and Metha (Dittmer) Lehmberg.

Sydney M. Johnson, 79, formerly of Lafayette. died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at his home in rural Kensington.
Services were Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 at First Lutheran Church, Kensington.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille; daughters, Debbie Petersen of Bemidji and Karen Melzer of Gillette, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace Johnson of Lafayette; and sisters, Rosalie Gasow of Glencoe and Marion Johnson of Warsaw.
He was born April 14, 1923, in Bernadotte Township to August and Amy (Olson) Johnson.

Shirley Niehoff, 65, of 1915 N. Spring St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at her home.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home.
Shirley is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Teresa M. Doty of Oak Harbor, Wash., Veronica Braulick of New Ulm, and Cynthia and Robert Hansen of Le Sueur; sons and daughters-in-law, John L. Niehoff of St. Paul, Christopher B. and LuAnn Niehoff of Springfield, Mark J. and Donna Niehoff of Galesburg, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Phylis and Lester Domeier of New Ulm, Lorraine and Marvin Christle of California, Elaine Roiger of New Ulm, Mary Lu Pischke of California, Margaret and Charles Forster of New Ulm, and James and Maryann Niehoff of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles "Chuck" Niehoff on Sept. 4, 2000; and brothers-in-law, Donald Roiger and DuWayne Pischke.
Shirley was born on Feb. 21, 1937, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to LeRoy and Mary G. (Pearce) Bethel. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1955. On June 8, 1957, she married Charles Niehoff at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage she traveled as a military bride, and in 1974, they settled in New Ulm. She had been employed at Stevenson's, the Book Nook and Beck's Jewelry in New Ulm. She was the founder and first president of the Mothers of Twins Club in Escondido, Calif., a member of the Navy, Marine Wives Club, the Chiefs Wives Club and the Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Reserve.

Vernon Nilson, 78, of rural New Ulm, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Friday and 7:30 -11 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Vernon is survived by his wife Gladys Nilson of rural New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Galen and Rhonna Nilson of Lake Crystal, Dwight and Mary Beth Nilson of New Ulm, and Jerry and Sherray Nilson of New Ulm; grandchildren, Cory, Justin, Trevor, Samuel, Kimberly, Adam, Melissa and Katie; a great-grandson, Colby; and a brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Mary Lou Nilson of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a brother, Myron Nilson.
Vernon was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Redwood Falls, to Nils and Anna (Anderson) Nilson. Vernon attended New Ulm schools and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1944. He married Gladys Harbo on March 23, 1947. After marriage they farmed in Milford Township, Brown County. In 1955 they purchased a second farm in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, where they lived from 1955 - 1965.
In 1965, they sold their farm in Nicollet County and moved back to their farm in Brown County. Vernon continued to farm and also owned and operated a sanitation business in New Ulm. Vernon enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, deer hunting and bird watching.
