Bertha Pederson, 89, of Hector, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hector with burial in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her children, Dennis of Hector and Wallene of Fridley; a brother, John of Willmar; and a sister Orma, Pederson of Hector.
She was born March 26, 1913 in Hector to John and Emma (Neubauer) Rice.

Rev. David Roney 82, died on Monday, Jan. 27, 2003.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at the San Lucas Toliman Church in Guatemala, with burial in the Church cemetery.
Father Roney was born Jan. 3, 1921, and was ordained at the St. Paul Cathedral on Aug. 18, 1945. He entered the Diocese of New Ulm in 1957. He retired from active ministry on June 16, 1993, and had been living in San Lucas Toliman in Guatemala since 1994.

H.C. 'Herb' Johnson, 81, of New Ulm, formerly of Hanska, died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with Rev. Marcia Hegna officiating. Interment will be in the Lake Crystal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to services at the church.
Herbert Carl Johnson, Jr., the son of Herbert and Effie (Swanson) Johnson, was born October 9, 1921 in Lake Crystal, where he spent his youth and attended school. Following graduation from Lake Crystal High School, he attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in the Mortuary Science program. After graduating and earning his morturary science license, he worked for Anderson Brothers Funeral Home in Minneapolis for two years. Herb entered the United States Navy in July, 1942 serving until his honorable discharge in December, 1945. He was united in marriage to Margaret Dow on April 29, 1946 in Minneapolis. They made their home in Brooten where he worked for Nelson Funeral Home, before moving to Waseca where he was with Pfaff Funeral Home for a time. They moved to Hanska in 1949 purchasing the furniture and funeral home operations from E.E. Nelson. They owned and operated Johnson Furniture and Funeral Home until selling the funeral home to James Hines in the late 1960's. They sold the furniture store to Steve and Darlene Odegard in 1984. The couple moved to New Ulm in 1996. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, Oscar O. Haugen American Legion Post #365 of Hanska; and was active in Boy Scouts in earlier years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of New Ulm; son, Richard Johnson and his wife Susan of Chippewa Falls, WI; daughter, Joanne Stadther and her husband Michael of Carver; two grandchildren, Kathryn and Rachel Johnson, both in college; brothers, Paul Johnson and his wife Arlene of Lake Crystal, Douglas Johnson and his wife Joyce of Lake Crystal; brother-in-law, Robert Dow of Crystal; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Appolonia Huhn, 91, of New Ulm died Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Appolonia is the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Huhn in 1937 and her mother, Magdalena Huhn in 1976.
Appolonia Anna Huhn, the daughter of William and Magdalena (Baumann) Huhn was born on September 17, 1911 in West Newton Township, Nicollet County. In 1924 she moved to New Ulm with her parents. She had worked for 33 years at the Oswald Laundry in New Ulm and retired in 1973. In October of 1997 she became a resident of the Country View Estates in Fairfax and lived there until March of 1998 when she became a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye. Appolonia was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and a member of the New Ulm Golden Agers Club where she enjoyed playing piano for clubs events.

Evelyn L. Block, 93, of New Ulm and formerly of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Harvey, North Dakota died Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2003 at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at church on Monday. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Luella and Stan Schroeder of Ellensburg, Washington and Lillian and Dalton Kohlman of Minot, North Dakota; sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob and Janice Block of Polson, Montana and Kenneth and Eileen Block of New Ulm; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Kermit and Gladys Foss of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Margaret Foss Nokleberg of Sun City West, Arizona and Iola Foss of Plentywood, Montana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Block in 1942; sisters, Alma and Luella; and by brothers, Rudolph and Arden.
Evelyn was born July 18, 1909 in Maddock, North Dakota to Hermo and Minna (Raaen) Foss. After marriage they farmed in rural Harvey, North Dakota. After her husbands' death she moved to Harvey. She moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1960 where she worked for the School for the Blind until retiring in 1974. She moved to the New Ulm Area in 1997.

Loraine Windschitl, age 90, of Sleepy Eye died Friday, January 31, 2003, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sleepy Eye, with Pastor Ron Freimark officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and on Monday, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Survivors include a son, Charles and his wife Dolores Windschitl of Sleepy Eye; 6 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren; sisters, Alsace Bjorndahl and Evelyn Kerkhoff, both of Belview, MN; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Alexander of Green Bay, Wl and Alice Madsen of Morgan, MN; brother-in-law, Bill Kamholz of Alexandria, MN along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence (Doc) in 1986; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Martin Sellner; a grandson, Mike Sellner; a sister, Marian Kamholz; brothers, Neal and Weldon Madsen and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Loraine Adellia Madsen, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Tomey) Madsen, was born on June 3, 1912 in Brookville Township, Redwood County, MN. She attended country school, District #34 in Brookville Twp., graduating from Sleepy Eye Public High School and Normal Training. Loraine then taught country school in the Morgan area for several years. On November 15, 1931, she married Arthur Petrehn in Sleepy Eye. They had two children, Betty Am and Charles Anton Petrehn. They lived in Cobden and several other areas until moving to Sleepy Eye in the late 1930's, and were later divorced. On Feb. 6, 1945 she married Clarence "Doc" Windschitl in New Ulm, who adopted her two children. Loraine also sold Radelle Hair Products and Tupperware for over 30 years. She was active in the Senior Citizens organization holding several offices and worked at card recycling, patchworkers and was a volunteer for Bingo at the Sleepy Eye Health Care Center. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family and friends, flower gardening, crafts and playing cards.

Louise F. Butt, age 90, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with Fr. Brian Oestreich officiating. Interment will be he Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4:30 p.m.on Monday evening at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, MN.
Louise Francis Rieke, the daughter of Frank and Johanna (Siemer) Rieke was born December 12, 1912 in Prairieville Twp., Brown County. She attended country school near Morgan after which she stayed at home to help at the farm. On May 4,1932, Louise married Dr. Bruce W. Butt at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Morgan. Following marriage they moved to Sleepy Eye where Dr. Bruce was a Chiropractor for many years, and Louise did Interior Decorating. She was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and took great pride in her grandchildren. Louise enjoyed going out to the club to play cards, traveling to many places, including Alaska, Hawaii, Australia, Canada and Eastern Europe, entertaining, fishing, gardening, sewing, cooking, especially and making jams and jellies. Louise was well known for the draperies she made when she was in business.
Survivors include her special friend, Peter Henning; a son, Ronald and wife JoAnn Butte of Rogers, MN; two grandchildren, Kathie Langer of Brookfield, WI and Rick and wife Colleen Butte of Melrose; great grandchildren, Emily Butte, Elizabeth Langer, Peter Butte, Eric Butte, Curtis Butte and David Langer; a sister, Eleanor Jemmings of Morgan, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Bruce Butt in 1984; 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

Dorothy Simon, 79, of Springfield, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
Services are 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, at United Methodist Church in Springfield with burial in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and continues 7:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home Springfield; and one hour before services Tuesday at the church
She is survived by her husband Bob Simon of Springfield; son David Simon of Springfield; daughter Kari Schmidt of Jordan; and five grandchildren.
She was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Burnstown Township, Brown County, Edward and Augusta (Kuehl) Sandmann.

Hilda Washburn, 88, of Hector, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Hughes Funeral Home handled arrangements.
She is survived by husband Francis Washburn of Hector; children, Clarence Washburn of Hector, Karen Anderson of New Hope, John Washburn of Hector, Gary Washburn of Hector and Dennis Washburn of Hector; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marjorie Houck of Hector.

Stephanie K. Jones, 17, of Gaylord, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in Gaylord Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m., Wednesday, at American Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her parents, Kevin and Benita Jones, Gaylord and a brother, Nathan of Gaylord.
She was born Aug. 30, 1985, in Arlington to Kevin and Benita Jones.

Ione Krienke, 86, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her home in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye, with burial at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
Ione was born on May 26, 1916, in North Home Township, Brown County, to Elmer and Helena (Swanson) Sampson. She made a public profession of faith on several and different occasions. She attended District No. 13 country school and worked for various farm families. She married Merrill Krienke on Aug. 20, 1941, at his home farm. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye. Ione enjoyed gardening, landscaping, nature, watching birds, traveling -- especially going to Israel and Alaska -- and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Merrill of Sleepy Eye; four sons, Norman and wife Shirley, Paul and wife Mary, Lee and wife Sandi, and Alan and wife Pam, all of Sleepy Eye; 15 grandchildren, Beth and James Klein, Aaron Krienke, Rebecca and Josh Anderson, Sarah Krienke, Rachel Krienke, Naomi Krienke, Grace and Abe Stopani, Martha Krienke, Caleb Krienke, Noah Krienke, Hosanna Krienke, Kimberlee and Bruce Jost, Erica and Jason Smith, Faith and Derek Jensen, and James Krienke; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Roger and wife Margaret Sampson, Doyle Sampson, Alice and Elwood Campbell, Ora and husband Ed Gunneson, and Glayd and husband Vernon Marti.

Edmund L. Willock, 79, of Madelia, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at North Memorial Hospital, Robbinsdale.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at First Lutheran Church, St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, and 7:30-9 a.m., Wednesday, at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James, and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his children, Earl Willock of Brownton, Joan Riordan of Lake Crystal, Christine Zacharias of St. Peter, Judy Lenzen of Omaha, Neb. and Debra Kinghorn of Carmel, Maine; 18 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Waldo of Mason City, Iowa.
He was born Dec. 27, 1923, to Earl and Minnie (Shaw) Willock in Butternut, Blue Earth County, Minne. He served in the Korean War in 1950 and 1951.

Marcella C. "Sally" Goblirsch, 88, of New Ulm died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Sally is survived by a niece, Helen Seitz of Waconia; and by special friends, Donna Alfson, Carol Setterholm and Estelle Baier, all of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Leo F. Goblirsch on Nov. 11, 1977.
Sally was born Jan. 19, 1915, in New Ulm to Guy and Louise (Lindmeyer) Salsman. She attended school in New Ulm and was a graduate of New Ulm High School. She married Leo F. Goblirsch on May 15, 1943 in South Carolina. After marriage they lived in New Ulm, where Sally worked as a secretary for the Superintendent's Office of School District No. 88 until she retired in 1982.
Sally was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, the Christian Mothers Society, Catholic Daughters Society, St. Monica's Society, Golden Agers of New Ulm, Turner Ladies, American Legion Auxiliary and C.A.S.T. She was the Brown County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1993 and also received the Service to Mankind Award in 1998.

Henry P. Baumann, 74, of rural New Ulm died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the Abbott - Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary by the St. John's Court of Catholic Order of Foresters at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Friday evening at the funeral home.
Henry is survived by his wife, Bernice Baumann of rural New Ulm; sons, Ronald Baumann and his special friend, Becky Hamilton both of Mankato, Jerry Baumann and his special friend, Mary Ann Fischer both of Sleepy Eye, Dave Baumann and his wife, Lynne of Rochester, Brian Baumann of Mankato; twin granddaughters, Lauren Baumann and Lindsey Baumann; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Jerry Bushore of Arizona; brother, Wilbert Baumann of Sleepy Eye; and his mother-in-law, Grace Drexler of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Dorothy Harbitz and Shirley Kral.
Henry was born on Sept. 5, 1928, in Sigel Township, Brown County to Henry and Anna (Schmid) Baumann. He married Bernice Drexler on April 18, 1953, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles. After marriage they farmed on the family farm in Sigel Township, Brown County. In 1993 they retired but continued to live on the farm. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and his family, especially his twin granddaughters. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm; and a member of the St. John's Court 698, Catholic Order of Foresters.
The family prefers memorials be given to donor's choice in lieu of flowers.

Verna Koenig, 94, of Buffalo Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Buffalo Lake Care Center.
Services are 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Zion United Methodist Church, Buffalo Lake, with burial in the Zion Evangelical Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:30-8 p.m., Thursday at the church and Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her children, Marlys Foss of Richfield, Karren Goede of St. Louis, Mo. and Randall of Burnsville; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was born Oct. 1, 1908, in Cavalier, N.D. to Isaac and Emma (Fischer) Moritz.
