Dorathea Becker, 92, of Morgan, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Gil Mor Manor in Morgan.
Services are 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Morgan. Burial will be held at a later date.
Visitation is Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence of Morgan; sons Perry of Morgan and Jim of Fairfax; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Esther Laux of Sleepy Eye and Irma Zaske of Morgan and step-sisters Ardella Anderson and Jane Luke, both of Springfield.
She was born May 30, 1910 in Redwood County to William and Anna (Steinhaus) Otto.

Helen Nicolai, 84, of Hector, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2003 at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at St. John's Catholic Church, Hector with burial in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector with a 7 p.m. prayer service and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband Otto of Hector; children Ken of Duesseldorf, Germany and Doug of Bullhead City, Ariz.; sister Sister Denis Neville of St. Paul; 2 granddaughters and one great grandson.
She was born May 24, 1918 to William and Katherine (Cusick) Neville of Olivia.

Ferdinand 'Fritz' Tauer, 75, of 1423 South Franklin Street in New Ulm, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section, in New Ulm. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and will continue 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Fritz is survived by a sister, Valeria Schanus of New Ulm; by brothers, Erwin Tauer and his wife Angie, Curtis Tauer, Sr. and his wife Jo, Ernest Tauer, and Donald "Sep" Tauer, all of New Ulm; and by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Ray Schanus.
Ferdinand Elmer Tauer, the son of Frank and Ella (Reinarts) Tauer, was born on March 2, 1927, in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County. He attended school at District No. 75 country school in Lake Hanska Township. He was with the first group of draftees during the Korean Conflict to be drafted into the U.S. Army on Sept. 28, 1950, and served until being honorably discharged on Aug. 9, 1952. He spent 13 of those months in Korea during hostile times. After his military service, Fritz moved back to Lake Hanska Township, Brown County. He lived there until 1961, when he moved to New Ulm. He worked at Bee Line Wheel & Frame in New Ulm for 40 years and for the last 20 years he was a co-owner of the business along with his three brothers. In 1991, he retired and sold his part of the business to his brothers. Fritz was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, a life member of the Albert Nagel VFW Post No. 1648 in New Ulm and a 50-year member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post No. 132 in New Ulm. Fritz loved to hunt and fish.

Rose Marie Schmidt, 84, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Kilkenny.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday with a 6:30 p.m. rosary and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons, Donald of Mankato and James of Kahoka, Mo.; daughters Judy Villwock of Owatonna, Marlys Peterson of Mankato and Kathie Evans of Willow River; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Gieseke of New Ulm.
She was born in New Ulm on May 17, 1918, to Anthony and Barbara (Saffert) Fleck.

Marie A. Mathiowetz, 87, of Comfrey, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at home in Mulligan Township.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 at Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9 a.m. Wednesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service. A rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Marie Anna Hillesheim, the daughter of John and Bertha (Sellner) Hillesheirn, was bom October 23, 1915 in Mulligan Topwnship, Brown County. She attended country school, District #70, after which she helped at home and others in the area. On May 4, 1937, she married Herman J. Mathiowetz at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Following marriage, they moved to their current farm in Mulligan Township. Marie was a lifetime member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, a member of the Christian Mothers and the Catholic Aid Association. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crafts, canning, cooking, playing cards, visiting with friends, spending time with her grandchildren, and especially enjoyed her time working at Augustin's Butcher shop, and visiting with the clients, where she was employed for nearly 30 years.
Survivors include two daughters - Phyllis Aanonson of Anchorage, Alaska and Bernice Savage of Rochester, MN; two sons - Marvin Mathiowetz of Princeton, MN and Gerald and wife Mary Lou Mathiowetz of Comfrey, MN; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; a brother - James and wife Roselia Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye and sisters - Helen and husband Sylvester Helget of Sleepy Eye and Florence Seidl of Faribault, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Herman in 1996; a son in infancy; a brother - Edmund Hillesheirn and sister - Agnes Treml.

Forrest L. Leith, 63, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Redwood Area Hospital.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003 at St. Cornelia's Episcopal Church on the Lower Sioux Community with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4 p.m. Monday until services Tuesday at the Community Hall in the Lower Sioux Community.
He is survived by his wife Cathy of Redwood Falls; 5 children, Shahn, Mimi, Jaclyn and Robin all of Redwood Falls and Kirk of Jordan; stepchildren Shannon Frauly of Coon Rapids, Jim Horejsi of Echo and David Haroldson of Alamosa, Colo.; 6 grandchildren; a great grandchild; 4 step grandchildren; siblings Charles of Redwood Falls, Sandy DeGroat of Mound and Leota DeGroat of Brooklyn Park.
He was born Oct. 22, 1939 in Pipestone to Charles (Jackson) and Leona Welch Welch Leith.
Redwood Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Melvin F. Cesar, 77, of Mapleton and formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Mapleton Community Home.
Services are 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church, in Mapleton with burial in Union Cemetery.
Visitation is two hours before the service at the church. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home of Mapleton is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Marcella of Mapleton; stepdaughters, Delilia Langworthy of Mapleton, Michelle Ouren of Hanska, Rhonda McVay of Howata, Okla.; stepsons, Boyd Kramer of Eagle Point, Bruce Kramer of Nicollet, Rory Deutchman of Mankato and Mark Deutchman of Mapleton; brothers, Vernon Cesar, and Robert Rathji of Bloomington; 17 stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was born Feb. 19, 1925, to Frank and Elsie (Anderson) Cesar in Minneapolis.

Raymond Ebnet, 81, of Benson and formerly of the Wabasso, Springfield and Vesta area, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Swift County-Benson Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson with burial in St. Bridget Catholic Cemetery in DeGraff.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., today at the church with a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. and continues one hour before the service Wednesday.
Jacobson-Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by sons, Raymond G. Ebnet of Madison, Ronald Ebnet of Benson, Roland Ebnet of Clinton, Richard Ebnet of Benson, Roger Ebnet of Benson; daughters, Patricia Hawkenson of Chokio, Joan Brown of Holloway, Germaine Brandt of Morris, Judy Wrobleski of Benson, Linda Wulf of Hancock, Jane Howard of Benson, Susan Reich of Benson; 51 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; brother, Albert Ebnet of Springfield; and sister, Caroline Welch of Springfield;
He was born Oct. 16, 1921, in New Avon Township, Redwood County, to Albert and Frances (Schottenbauer) Ebnet.
He served in the military from September 1942 to November 1945.

Rosemary Borchert, 77, of Gaylord, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at Franklin Health Care Center.
Services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Gaylord.
She is survived by brother William Borchert of Chamblee, Ga.; and sister, Rosalind Rundberg of Bartlesville, Okla.
She was born June 26, 1925, in Gaylord, to Benjamin F. and Margaret (Scally) Borchert.

Roland Hoffmann, 89, of New Ulm, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Roland is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Betty and Raymond Pfarr of rural New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marilyn Hoffmann, Donald and Della Hoffmann, all of New Ulm; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Olivia Hoffmann of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Marjorie Ott of Arlington; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Lila Scharbach of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Angeline Hoffmann on Aug. 25, 1998; a son, Roland R. Hoffmann on July 14, 1997; and three sisters.
Roland was born on Sept. 7, 1913, in New Ulm, to William and Hulda (Kaegebein) Hoffmann. He married Angeline Scheerz on May 3, 1932, at the Cathedral Parish in New Ulm. He worked for Stork Brothers Produce in New Ulm for 20 years and then owned and operated a recycling business in New Ulm for 13 years and later worked at the City Meat Market in New Ulm. He loved to play cards and garden and enjoyed old time polka music and crossword puzzles. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Joseph McCarthy, 53, of 216 S. Minnesota St. in New Ulm, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Joseph is survived by his wife Lavonne McCarthy of New Ulm; his mother and stepfather Catherine and Anthony Privoznik of Bridgeview, Ill.; father-in-law and mother-law Paul and Chris Irvin of Austin; daughter and son-in-law Amy and Kenneth Lawson of Lavergne, Tenn.; son Timothy McCarthy and his fiancée Jackie Toft of Cresthill, Ill.; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Deri and Patricia Nordsving of Sauk Centre, and Darin and Stacy Nordsving of Canton; seven grandchildren; stepson-in-law Steve Dobie of Hutchinson; sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Thom Travis of Worth, Ill.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lyn McCarthy of St. John, Ind., Darlene Hoffman of North Mankato, and Debra and Craig Lewison of Janesville, Wis.; brothers, John McCarthy of Justice, Ill., and Tony Privoznik of Plainfield, Ill.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Linda Irvin of St. Peter.
He was preceded in death by his father Daniel James McCarthy; a brother, Daniel McCarthy; his grandparents; and a stepdaughter, Roxanne Dobie.
Joseph was born Nov. 4, 1949, in Chicago, Ill., to Daniel James and Catherine Margaret (Leipart) McCarthy. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970. After his discharge from the Army he worked at Schuster's Inc. in Chicago as a mechanic for 20 years and then for E.L.A. Security Inc. for five years. He married Lavonne Irvin on June 17, 1994, in St. Charles, Ill. Joseph worked at Le Sueur Inc. for the past eight years. He was a member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post No. 132 in New Ulm and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a past member of the Roberts Park, Ill., Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

Roger H. Knacke, 61, of New Auburn, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Auburn with burial in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord.
He is survived by his mother, Myrtle of New Auburn; wife, Kathleen of New Auburn; daughters, Nicole Sidwill of Mound, Karla Wendorff of New Auburn, Jolene of New Auburn and Krystal Knacke of Winthrop; brother, Craig of New Auburn; sisters, Kathleen Ringo of New Auburn and Faye Ryan of Arlington and five grandchildren.
He was born June 15, 1941, in New Auburn to Herman and Myrtle (Schimmelpfennig) Knacke.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962.

Emil Wendler, 79, of 514 5th North St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Saturday.
Emil is survived by his wife Geraldine Wendler of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Dennis Groebner of Clements, and Kathy and Mark Soupir of Redwood Falls; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Linda Wendler of Redwood Falls, Duane and Angie Wendler, Roland Wendler, Dennis Wendler, and Joel and Ronda Wendler, all of New Ulm; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Laura Wendler of Comfrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister in infancy; and by a brother, Walter Wendler.
Emil was born March 2, 1923, in Burnstown Township, Brown County, to Emil Sr. and Hattie (Mueller) Wendler. He worked for Runck Implement in Springfield, before serving in the U.S. Army During WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He married Geraldine Maha on Oct. 20, 1947, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield. After marriage they farmed in Burnstown Township, Brown County, for 21 years. He also worked part time for Radke Construction in Springfield. They moved to New Ulm, where he worked for BF Goodrich until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. Paul's Parish Center Building Fund.

Sheldon Curtiss, 70, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with burial in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., today, at Dobratz, Hantge Downtown Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson and continues one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.

Rose M. Hagg, 96, of Winthrop, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., today, and 7:30-8 a.m., Wednesday, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of the mass at the church on Wednesday.
She is survived by her son Earl Hagg of St. Paul; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; sister Arvilla Mix of Seattle; and brother Alphonse Schwarzbauer of Minneapolis.
Rose M. (Schwarzbauer) Hagg was born Oct. 20, 1906, to Frank and Kathryn (Botz) Schwarzbauer in McGrath.

Cody James Leimer, 9, of St. James, died in a snowmobile accident Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, near Long Lake.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., today and 7:30-9 a.m., Wednesday, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and continues one hour before the service at the church.
He is survived by his parents, Curt and Jill (Stocking) Leimer of St. James; sisters, Kristin and Mariah; grandparents, Leon and Ardis Leimer of Butterfield, and Jan Stocking of Burnsville;
He was born Dec. 22, 1993, to Curt and Jill Leimer.
