Emil Maas, 94, of rural Nicollet, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at the Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, with burial in the church cemetery in rural Nicollet.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Wednesday.
Emil is survived by his daughter-in-law Luann Maas of Dresbach; sisters-in-law, Ida Maas, a resident of the Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter, and Erma Summers and her husband Don of North Mankato.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Esther on Oct. 13, 1985; a son, Dwayne Maas on May 1, 1999; by brothers, Arthur and Gabriel; and by sisters, Sarah and Gertrude.
Emil was born Jan. 20, 1909, in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County, to Carl and Margaret (Meuer) Maas. He married Esther Rudenick on June 24, 1931, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. Emil was a lifelong farmer in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.
He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

Mildred Mognlie, 87, of Chaska and formerly of St. James, died Monday, Feb, 17, 2003, at Auburn Manor in Chaska.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, at First Lutheran Church in St. James with burial in the Fort Ridgely and Dale Cemetery near Fairfax.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, and 7:30-9 a.m., Thursday, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and continues one hour before services at the church.
She is survived by sons, James Rognlie of Shakopee, Ronald Rognlie of St. James; and four grandchildren.
She was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Franklin, to Andrew and Ellen (Danielson) Halverson.

Elmer Bode, 83, of 923 N. German St. in New Ulm, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the Lake Crystal Health Care Center in Lake Crystal.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the Zion Eden Cemetery in Eden Township, Brown County.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today and from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Elmer is survived by his daughters, Ellen Mueller and her husband Michael of St. Paul, and Betsy Domeier Stanton and her husband Curt of Mankato; son Warren Bode of New Ulm; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Valeria E. Bode; second wife Agnes T. Bode; sister Edna Bendix; and brother Edwin Bode.
Elmer was born on May 19, 1919, in Courtland, to Herman and Elsie (Unverworn) Bode. He married Valeria E. Schroeder on Jan. 17, 1945, in Eden Township, Brown County. After Valeria's death, he married Agnes Schwartz Stringham on May 7, 1965, in New Ulm. He had farmed in Eden Township and later worked for Bosshart Construction and then worked as a porter and maintenance man at the Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm. He was a resident of the Lake Crystal Health Care Center since Jan. 22, 2003. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
The family prefers memorials be given to donors choice in lieu of flowers.

Lilah Buhr, 82, of Stewart, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Olivia Healthcare Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart. Burial will be this spring in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., today with a 7 p.m. prayer service at the Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Brainerd to Edwin and Eleanora (Wagner) Melby.

Harry R. Carnell, 86, of Comfrey, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield, with burial in Congregation Cemetery, Comfrey. Military rites will be performed by the Comfrey VFW Post.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m., Friday, at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel.
He is survived by sons, Thomas of Bloomington and Brad of Comfrey; daughter Connie of Austin; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, George of Hartford, Wis.
He was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Comfrey to Edna and George Carnell.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served during World War II.

Elvira 'Vera' Eisenbacher, 89, of Minnetonka, and formerly of New Ulm, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Minnetonka.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m., Thursday and from 7:30 - 10:30, a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Anne's Court, N.C.S.F. and the St. Mary's Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. both Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Vera is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Gary Nielson of Silver Springs, Fla., Sandy and George Althoff of Delano, and Pat and Nick Strandberg of Minnetonka; son and daughter-in-law Ted and Mary Jean Eisenbacher of Onalaska, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Earl Baker of North Mankato; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Erwin Eisenbacher; granddaughter, Andrea Nielson; parents Theodore and Minnie Simmet; and sisters, Phyllis Kloet, Bernice Newton and Helen Plasschaert.
She was born on June 6, 1913, in New Ulm, to Ted and Minnie Simmet. She lived in New Ulm until September 2001 when she moved to Minnetonka. She married Erwin Eisenbacher on Sept. 2, 1940, in New Ulm. Vera was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, and attended St. Mary's School as a child. She was active in the St. Anne's Court No. 389, N.C.S.F., the St. Mary's Catholic Aid Society, C.C.W. and the St. Florance Guild. She was the founder of St. Mary's First Friday Breakfast. Vera was an ardent bridge player, quilter and needle-worker.
Memorials are preferred to St. Mary's Church, N.U.A.C.S. Scholarship Fund, or Allina Hospice & Palliative Care.

Grace Erickson, 76, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, near Granite Falls as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., today, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
She is survived by son Jim Erickson of Fredericksburg, Iowa; daughters, Mary Hauschild of Redwood Falls, Dorothy Dudgeon of Morton, Joyce Weltsch of Redwood Falls, and Dale Dudgeon of Redwood Falls; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; sisters, Betty Naten of Montrose, Colo., Esther Saue of Boyd, and Doris Meyer of Lennox, S.D.
She was born March 30, 1926, in Maynard, Minn., to Alva and Dorothea (Marholz) Robinson.

Alice I. Koester, 91, of Gaylord, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 9 ­ 11 a.m., Friday, at the church.
Arrangements are with the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Carol Anderson of rural Winthrop, and Pat Koester of Florida; son Larry Koester of West Palm Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother Victor Schmidt of Hutchinson.
Alice Ida Martha (Schmidt) Koester was born May 22, 1911, in Lynn Township, McLeod County, to Henry and Emma (Plath) Schmidt.

Edward Tiedeken, 76, of rural Hanska, died Monday Feb. 17, 2003, at the Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today and 7:30 - 9:30 am. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Edward is survived by a sister, Janet Tiedeken of rural Hanska; a brother, Ernest "Ernie" Tiedeken of rural Hanska; and an aunt, Amelia Schmidt of rural New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Darlene Tiedeken in 1977.
Edward was born July 1, 1926, in Cottonwood Township, Brown County to Conrad B. and Frieda (Schmidt) Tiedeken. Edward farmed his entire life in Cottonwood Township, Brown County. Edward also worked part-time as a carpenter and did custom field work with his brother Ernie, and also drove a milk truck for AMPI in New Ulm. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Searles.

Melvin Bruns, 88, of Mankato, and formerly of Nicollet, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato, where he had been a resident for the past three weeks.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, with burial in the church Cemetery, rural Nicollet. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday.
Melvin is survived by his wife Marilyn Bruns of Mankato; a daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Ken Sorensen of Lake Crystal; a son and daughter-in-law, Stuart and Lucy Bruns of Nicollet; grandchildren, Craig and Blake Bruns and Melissa and Robby Sorensen; sisters and brother-in-law Myra and Wes Rengstorf of Courtland, and Frieda Braun of Nicollet; and sisters-in-law, Ardella Bruns of Mankato, and Priscilla Myers of Jacksonville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Fred Bruns; and a sister, Edna Shellum.
Melvin Ehler Bruns, the son of Fred A. and Frieda (Nothwehr) Bruns was born on Jan. 12, 1915, in Courtland. He attended parochial school in both Courtland and Nicollet, public school in Nicollet, and then attended Mankato Business College in Mankato. On June 14, 1958, he married Marilyn Liesener at the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, Wis. After marriage they farmed his family's farm in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County.
Melvin retired in 1984, but continued to live on the farm helping his son with the farm work. While farming, he also raised beef cattle and was in the Purebred Hampshire Hog raising business. Melvin had served on the Nicollet Township Board for 15 years; several of those as the Chairman of The Board. He played the bass drum for several years with the Mankato Elks Band, the Schells Hobo Band, and the over 60's band. Melvin was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet for most of his life and had served on the church council and the church building committee.

James L. Isaacson, 49, of St. James, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday, and 7:30-8:30 a.m., Saturday, at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife Diane of St.James; a daughter Shannon Johnson of St. James; a grandson; a brother Dan of Jackson; a sister Deb Mattke of Huron, S.D.
He was born Nov. 29, 1953, to Ken and Marie (Lippold) Isaacson at Estherville, Iowa.
He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.

DonnaBelle 'Donny' Esther Lilla, 88, of Comfrey, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey with burial in Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Thursday, and 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey; and Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur J. Lilla of Comfrey; children, James of Sacramento, Calif., Suzanne Brown of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Renee Schwagerl of Beardsley; nine grandchildren; stepbrother vincent Kamolz; stepsisters, Agnes Schultz and Elva Elg.
She was born Nov. 7, 1914, to Edward and Esther Glaser in Mountain Lake.

Beatrice Stewart, 81, of Hector, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Cosmos Healthcare Center.
Services are 11:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at Swedlanda Lutheran Church, rural Hector with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Monday at Swedlanda Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home, Hector.

Florence Duenow, 72, of Hutchinson, died Feb. 19, 2003, at Dungarvin Residence in Hutchinson.
Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn, with burial in High Island Cemetery in New Auburn.
Visitation is 4-9 p.m., today and continues 7:30-8:30 a.m. at Egesdal Funeral Home and one hour before the service Saturday at the church.
She is survived by brothers, Marvin Duenow of Green Esle, Lawrence Duenow of Arlington, Lloyd Duenow of Glencoe; and sisters, Bernice Tuchtenhagen of Winthrop, Jeanette Barfknecht of Gaylord.
She was born June 3, 1930, in Sumter Township, McLeod County, to Alfred and Ida (Kohls) Duenow.

Katie Marie Miller, daughter of Travis and Paula Miller of Morgan, was stillborn on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at New Ulm Medical Center.
Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at Calvary Baptist Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
She is survived by her parents, Travis and Paula (Merritt) Miller of Morgan; brothers, Cody and Wyatt Miller; grandparents, Corrine Miller of Balaton, Scott and Nancy Merritt of Long Prairie; great-grandmothers, Orla Swan of Balaton and Juanita Bruder of Kamiah, Idaho.

Herbert Remiger, 76 of Wabasso, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, in Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday, and continue Saturday one hour prior to services in St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso. There will be a parish prayer service Friday at 7 p.m., in the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Victor Hirsch American Legion Post of Wabasso.
Sunset Burial Association of Wabasso is handling the arrangements.
Herbert Frank Remiger was born Friday, March 12, 1926, near Sleepy Eye, Minn., to Harry and Mary (Seidl) Remiger.
He moved with his family to the Wabasso area in 1937. Herb attended country school near Sleepy Eye and then St. Anne's Parochial School in Wabasso. He entered the U. S. Army serving during World War II in Germany as a military policeman. On June 24, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Zemler at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Fulda, Minn. They lived and farmed near Wabasso until he had a stroke in 1979. He also cut cottonwood trees and made them into lumber with his family. He drove the roadgrader in Vail Township for a number of years. Herb and Joan moved into Wabasso where he continued to live until entering the Valley View Manor in Lamberton. He was an active member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and the Victor Hirsch American Legion Post in Wabasso. He loved to fish, hunt mushrooms, collect tractors and had a large muskmelon patch. His family and farming were always his first love in life.
Herbert F. Remiger died on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 4 days.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years Joan; six children; Mary Gasser and husband Ken of St. Cloud, Mike Remiger and wife Carole of Wabasso, Joe Remiger and wife Colleen of Wabasso, Rosie VanMeveren and husband Joe of Lucan, Rita Merschman and husband Kevin of Backus, and Jean Fleischer of Wabasso. Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren, Karen Beebout, Jerry Remiger, Jesse Remiger, Jason Peterson, Stacy Peterson, Craig Remiger, Kristina Prchal, Jamie Gasser Dustin Prchal, Aaron Fleischer and Ryan Fleischer; five great-grandchildren; Katlyn, Kelsey and Jarret Beebout, Mason Brown and Mackenzie Duscher; and his sister Lucille Plaetz and husband Louis of Wabasso and sister-in-law Louise Rice and husband John of Hanley Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Walter, Melvin and Harry Jr.
