Eugene S. Hoffmann, 48, of New Ulm died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Lake Crystal Health Care Center.
Services are 6:30 p.m., Friday, March 14, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is Friday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his son, Kristopher of New Ulm; daughter, Melanie of Bozeman, Mont; brothers, Maynard of Anoka, Dennis of Mankato, Art of Mankato; sisters, Rita Jameson of Coon Rapids, Annette Hutter of Minneapolis and Gloria Larson of Bloomington.
He was born Feb. 12, 1955, in Redwood Falls to Leonard and Delores (Macht) Hoffmann.

Herbert Wegner, 93, of rural Butterfield, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m., Friday, March 14, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Butterfield, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, at Bjerum Funeral Home in Mountain Lake; and continues one hour before the service at the church.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Mildred Wegner of Butterfield; son, Dennis and his wife Sandra Wegner of New Ulm; two daughters, Patricia and her husband William Gray of International Falls Minn. and Priscilla "Pixie" Wegner of Butterfield,; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter, Michael Wegner and his daughter Isabelle Wegner of St. Peter, Dean Wegner of Minneapolis, and Cristoffer Bertilson of Maplewood,. eight stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; sister, Pearlette and her husband Eldon Poppe of Fairmont; brothers, Mervin Wegner of Lewisville and Bill Wegner and his wife Mickie of Arlington Heights, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Elvera Wegner of Amboy, Jenny Wegner of Butterfield, and Sadie Wolfe of Mesa, Ariz.; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters Alvina Krenz, Irene Baarts and Alfreda. Wegner in infancy; and four brothers, Erick, Ellsworth, Alvin and Walter.
Herbert Walter Wegner, the son of Herman R. and Anna (Pfeil) Wegner was born on April 12, 1909, in Antrim Township, Watonwan County. He was confirmed on April 29, 1923, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman. He farmed in the Truman area. When he was 23, he went to Oaks, N.D., to help his sister, Alvina Krenz with her family and farm after her husband died. He returned home in 1933. In 1935, he got his first 500 turkeys, being one of the first turkey raisers in this area. On Feb. 9, 1941, Herb was united in marriage to Mildred Ruth Van Brunt, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, In 1942, the couple moved to rural Butterfield, where be farmed and raised turkeys. Herb was an active member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Butterfield. His hobbies were playing cards, fishing, woodworking and playing pool.

Melvin Elling, 86, of Hector, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. Burial will be in Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his children, Eugene, Eileen Kirtz of Litchfield, Susan Clayton of Janesville, Dale of Hector and Gail Johnson of Hector; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Brookfield Township, Renville County, Minn., to Fred and Anna (Buck) Elling.

Aleen D. Johnson, 91, of Madelia died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2003 at the United Methodist Church, Madelia. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation Saturday at the church, two hours prior to the service.
Pilgrim Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
She is survived by a son, Cliff of Le Sueur; a daughter, Betty Thurston of Madelia; a daughter, Joan of Estacada, Ore.; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a brother, Dan Chasteen of Mankato.
She was born March 3, 1912 in Belgrade Township, Nicollet County to John and Minnie (Perkel) Chasteen.

Devere 'Dick' Keech, 86, of LaSalle died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, at the LaSalle Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Vedell officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Madelia American Legion Post No. 19 and Oscar O. Haugen American Legion Post No. 365 of Hanska will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Dick was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Lake Park, Iowa, the son of Smith and Mary (Miller) Keech. As a child, he moved with his family to Minnesota, eventually settling in Madelia, where he attended school. Following his graduation from Madelia High School, he worked for the Gamble Robinson Fruit Company in Mankato for a time.
He was united in marriage to Jessie Skarpohl on Jan. 24, 1942, at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church parsonage. In April of that same year, Dick entered the U.S. Army. He served in the medical corps in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and the invasion of Normandy. His unit was trapped during the Battle of the Bulge, before being liberated by General Patton and his troops. His service earned him both the bronze and silver stars. Following his honorable discharge in November 1945, he returned home, where he and Jessie entered into business in Hanska, owning and operating Keech Hardware for 34 years. After retiring and selling the store in 1978, Dick drove school bus for the Madelia Bus Service for 15 years.
He was a member of LaSalle Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and in various other capacities, and Oscar O. Haugen American Legion Post No. 365 of Hanska. Dick and Jessie loved travel, throughout the United States and internationally. He also enjoyed snow skiing and fishing. He was a former mayor of Hanska and very involved in community and civic duties.
Dick is survived by his wife Jessie of LaSalle; brother, Lee Keech of Vera Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law Kent Skarpohl and his wife Donna of Mankato; nephews, Gary Keech and his wife Sharon of Mesa, Ariz., Conrad Keech and his wife Carol of Wisconsin, and Mark Skarpohl and his wife Gayle of Mankato; nieces, Rebecca Skarpohl and her husband Bruce Pepper of Good Thunder, Mary Skarpohl and her husband Chuck Ost of Minnesota Lake, and Christine Skarpohl-Gregory of Martinez, Calif.; great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Carwin Keech.

Ruth Manahan, 91, of Madelia, died Friday, March 14, 2003.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St., Mary's Catholic Church in Madelia.
Visitation will be on Sunday 5-8 p.m. at Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia.
She is survived by her children, James H. Manahan of Mankato; Patricia Manahan Anderson of Madelia; Bill Manahan of Mankato; Nancy J. Manahan; Margaret Manahan Gert of Napa, California; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
She was born August 10, 1911 in Madelia to the late William and Pearl (Christensen) Hinchon.

Joyce Jones, 81, of Sleepy Eye, died Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. Burial will be in Home Cemetery, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Deanne Weisser of Mobile, Ala., Sherri Spaeth of Tacoma, Wash., Linda Tangen of Bloomington, Connie Kusche of Golden Valley; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
She was born Dec. 11, 1921 in Pierpont, S.D. to Leonard and Nette (Perry) Mallett.

Esther B. Munsterman, 90, of St. James, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center, St. James.
Services are 2 p.m., Friday, March 21, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. James. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday and 7:30 to noon Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by a son, Robert Munsterman of St. James; a daughter, June Gifford of Kansas City, Mo.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Schweppe of Rockford, Ill.
She was born Oct. 1, 1912, to Henry and Emma (Wittenberg) Schweppe at St. James.

Florence E. Radtke, 85, of Springfield died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home, Springfield.
Services are 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel, Springfield, with burial in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Springfield.
Visitation is Tuesday at the chapel, two hours prior to the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
She was born May 2, 1917, in North Star Township, Brown County, Minnesota. to Albert and Louise (Kettner) Radtke.

Joseph Wendinger, 94, of Fairfax, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, with interment in St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery in Cairo Township, rural Fairfax.
Visitation will be 4 - 9 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax, and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. There will be a Catholic Aid Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Monday and parish prayer service 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.
Joseph Blasius Wendinger was born on Feb. 3, 1909, in Cairo Township, rural Fairfax, Renville County. He was the son of George and Louisa (Matsch) Wendinger. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. He received his education at St. Andrew's Catholic Parochial School in Fairfax.
On May 19, 1936, Joseph Wendinger was united in marriage to Clara Blumhoefer at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. This marriage was blessed with three children. Joseph and Clara resided on the family farm in Cairo Township and farmed until Joseph retired in 1978. Joseph and Clara continued to reside on the family farm until 1997, when they moved to Mankato and resided with their daughter. Joseph served as School Board Treasurer for District No. 32 for many years and was a member of the St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council. In February 2003, Joseph was admitted to the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Joseph is survived by his wife Clara Wendinger of Mankato; daughters, Agnes Wendinger of New Ulm, and Mary Lou Brown and her husband Allen of Mankato; son George Wendinger and his wife Marian of Fairfax; grandchildren, Shari Wendinger, Michael Wendinger and his wife Patty, Mark Brown and his wife Sandy and Sarah Brown; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jakob Wendinger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Katherine Schroedl.

Norman Guttum, 85, of 917 9th North St. in New Ulm died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father John Richter officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 7:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a rosary at 6:30 p.m. by the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Norman is survived by his wife, Agatha Guttum of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Harold Holm of New Ulm, Carol and Thomas Odean of Long Lake, and Linda and Peter Stadtherr of New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law Paul and Darlene Guttum and David Guttum all of New Ulm; thirteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Laverna Wiesner of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Guttum; a grandson, Jonathan Holm; brothers, Arthur and Joseph Guttum; and a sister, Adeline Wellmann.
Norman John Guttum, the son of William and Elizabeth (Kastner) Guttum, was born on February 10, 1918, in Albin Township, Brown County. He attended country school in Albin Township, Brown County. On June 17, 1941 he was united in marriage to Agatha Braun at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they farmed his family's farm in Albin Township until 1947 when they moved to a farm in Sigel Township, Brown County. They farmed there until 1980 when they retired and moved into New Ulm. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Aid Council, and a member of the Sigel Town Boys.

Albert Krueger, 91, of Lewisville, Texas, and formerly of Comfrey; died Friday, March 14, 2003, at Lewisville Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey, with burial in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Comfrey.
Visitation is 9:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by daughter Linda Kantor of Coppell, Texas; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was born April 8, 1911, in Adrian Township, Watonwan county, to Alfred and Amelia (Dombrouski) Krueger.

Richard "Dick" O'Malley, 79, of Denver and formerly of New Ulm, Colo., died Jan. 24, 2003, in Denver.
Services were held in Denver with burial in Ft. Logan, Colo.
He is survived by wife Elizabeth Warren O'Malley of Denver; sons, Tom, Micheal, Timothy, William and Richard; brother Thomas O'Malley of St. Paul; sister Eileen Herriges of New Ulm; and nine grandchildren;
He was born Dec. 28, 1934, in Watertown, S.D., to Charles and Mary Ann O'Malley.
He served in the Army Air Corps.

Erwin Albrecht, 76, of 1021 N. Garden St., New Ulm, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with Rev. Robert Hines officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations will follow at the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Erwin William Albrecht was born Feb. 8, 1927, in Arlington Heights, Ill., the son of Martin and Helena Albrecht. He attended and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. Erv entered the U.S. Army in 1945. Following his honorable discharge in 1947, he returned to Illinois, where he attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree dairy science.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Kingsley on Aug. 6, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa. Erv began working for Kraft Foods, which took them to various states and plants for several years before moving to New Ulm in 1967. He worked as superintendent for the New Ulm plant for several years. After his retirement, Erv and Pat continued to make their home in New Ulm. She died May 5, 1997. Erv was member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Survivors include his daughter Alyce Dalzell and her husband Robert of Falcon, Colo.; son Jeff Albrecht and his wife Mary of Hugo; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Danielle Dalzell, and Caitlin and Patrick Albrecht; sister Eleanor Runge and her husband Norman of Illinois; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Martin and Herman Albrecht.

Elizabeth Fox, 85, of Madelia, died March 17, 2003, at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2003, at the First Presbyterian Church in Madelia, with the Rev. Gene Alms officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Madelia.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.
Elizabeth was born April 10, 1917, in Madelia to Lloyd E. and Julia (Jacobson) Cooling. She grew up in Madelia, attended Madelia High School and graduated in 1935. Elizabeth married Jack Fox on Aug. 24, 1940, in Madelia. They made their home in Madelia, where she worked at the Madelia Community Hospital for many years as a record librarian and assistant administrator. She had taken business courses at Mankato State College while she worked at the hospital. She retired in 1986.
Elizabeth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Madelia, church circles and the Madelia Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading and bird watching.
She is survived by her sons, Richard of Belle Plaine, and William of Shakopee, three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband in March 1990; a son, Stephen; a brother, Lloyd; and a sister, Lois.
