Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vesta. Burial will be in Vesta Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the church and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Kulow Funeral Service of Echo is handling arrangements.

Frances Paulson, 86, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are 10 a.m., Saturday, April 5, at Faith United Methodist Church, Sleepy Eye. Burial will be in Prairieville Cemetery, Evan.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband Clarence of Sleepy Eye; daughter Kay Jensen of Eagle, Idaho; sons, Dean of Glenwood and Jim of St. James; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Vivian Paulson of Edinburg, Texas.
She was born Feb. 2, 1917, to Edgar and Minnie (Frederickson) Rice in Hanska.

Florence A. Freiderichs, 90, of Gaylord, died Friday, April 4, 2003 at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by sister Grace McGraw of Lafayette.
She was born on October 9, 1912, to William and Bertha (Manthey) Friederichs, in Sibley Township, Sibley County.

Nina Selke, 89, of Sleepy Eye, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services are noon, Friday, April 11, at Faith United Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the M organ City Cemetery.
Visitation is 11 a.m. to noon at the church. Sturm Funeral Home handled arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Joann Lux of Sleepy Eye, Sharon Boeke of Osage, Iowa; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Bert Creaser of Watertown, S.D.;
She was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Morgan to John Enstine (Reetz) Gluth.

Gladys Thordson, 100, of St. James, formerly of Hanska, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, rural Hanska, with Rev. Robert Vedell. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Hanska.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to service a the church.
Gladys Inga Anderson, the daughter of Nels and Anna (Magnuson) Anderson, was born Jan. 7, 1903 in Willmar where she was schooled. Shortly after her father's death, the family moved to Mankato. Gladys married Thor Thordson on July 22, 1945 at Mankato. Together, they made their home and farmed in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County. Following her husband's death in 1967, she continued to live on the farm until moving to St. James in 1983. She was a member of Lake Hanska Lutheran Church and ELCW.
Gladys dearly loved her family. She enjoyed her time fishing and dancing.
Survivors include daughter, Beverly Bakke and her husband Jerome of Hanska; son, Leland Johnston and his Judy of Groten, SD; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene, seven brothers and two sisters.

Agnes Anderson, 91, of Belview, formerly of Hanska and New Ulm, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Park View Home in Belview.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with Rev. Marcia Hegna officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Agnes Anderson, the daughter of George and Anna (Joramo) Jorgenson, was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Hanska. She attended Hanska public school and Hanska High School. Agnes married Malte Anderson on Dec. 9, 1933, at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church parsonage. They made their home in Hanska, LaSalle, Delft, and Darfur. They returned to Hanska in 1953.
Following her husband's death in 1989, Agnes remained in Hanska until moving into the Sunset Apartments in New Ulm in 1995. She moved to the Parkwood Apartments in Belview in 2000 to be near her daughter. Agnes had worked at various cafes and factories and was a seamstress in years past. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and the ELCW.
Survivors include her son Melbourne Anderson and his wife Ileen of Big Lake, and Pharr, Texas; daughter Janice Blomeke and her husband Dennis of Belview; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Anna Bohn and her husband Hugo in Texas, and Latitia Peterson and her husband Charlie of Judson; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Oren Deterling, 68, of rural Fairfax died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Oren is survived by his wife Lavella Deterling of rural Fairfax; mother Norma Thiem, a resident of the Burns Manor in Hutchinson; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Ron Klement of rural Gibbon; grandchildren, Aaron Deterling and his fiancée Brandy Lord, both of Marshall, Becky Deterling of Redwood Falls, Heather Klement and Ryan Klement, both at home; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Deterling; and a brother, Glenn Deterling of Hutchinson. He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Brian Deterling on April 23, 1995; and a brother, Kenneth Deterling.
He was born on Sept. 26, 1934, in Wellington Township, Renville County, to Luvern and Norma (Sell) Deterling. He married Lavella Kuester on May 22, 1957, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township. After marriage they farmed the family farm in Wellington Township and retired in 1994. He enjoyed making firewood and gardening after he retired. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, Renville County.

Leo W. Mead, 53, of Lamberton, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, at the United Methodist Church, Lamberton with burial in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born April 7, 1949, in New Ulm to Leo and Margaret (Evans) Mead.

Beatrice M. Schottenbauer, 87, of Fairfax, formerly of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, and 7:30-10 a.m., Wednesday, at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. A rosary will be held at 4 p.m. and parish service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Riebel of Bloomington; James of Morristown, Leo of Sleepy Eye, David of Flat River, Mo., Dianne Kienlen of Fairfax, Thomas of Newton, Kansas and Greg of Sleepy Eye; 40 grandchildren and many great- and great-great-grandchildren; sister Fanchon Bertrand of Sleepy Eye; and brother William Barnes of Novato, Calif.
She was born May 24, 1915, in Sleepy Eye to James and Mathilda (Fehmer) Barnes.

Oren R. Shelley, 91 of Roseville passed away on April 4, 2003. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; father, Ole and mother, Bertha. He is survived by his son Erland and his wife Sally; daughters, Martha, Kristi, and Linda; grandchildren, Mark and his wife Glee, Erick and Anthony; great grandchildren, Garrett and Kayla; sister, Thelma Asleson; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Oren was born in Hanska, MN on November 27, 1911. He was a lieutenant in the USN during WWII, graduated from the U of MN, School of Agriculture with a Masters Degree in Agricultural Economics, Summa Cum Laude. He was the president of the St. Paul Bank for Cooperatives until his retirement. After retirement he continued to work in many developing countries in the field of agricultural economics with the US Govt. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 263, Shriner's Osman Temple, Sons of Norway, Norske Torske Klubben, VFW, American Legion, and Kiwanis. Oren traveled abroad extensively with his wife Evelyn. He enjoyed fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He stayed connected to his Norwegian heritage in Hanska, MN.
Funeral Service 1 p.m. Thursday April 10, 2003 at The Roseville Memorial Chapel, 2245 N. Hamline Ave. 651-631-2727. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment Nora Church Cemetery, Hanska, MN.

Marie M. Collier, 95, of Madelia, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 3 p.m., Saturday, April 12, at First Presbyterian Church in St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-3 p.m., Saturday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Collier of Minneapolis; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
She was born Dec. 18, 1907, in Princeton, Ill., to Henry and Emma (Eckdahl) Morine.

Clementine (Siemer) Edwards, 92, St. Paul, formerly of Morgan, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Galtier Health Center in St. Paul.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Chapel, in South St. Paul. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Catholic Cemetery in Morgan on Saturday afternoon.
Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
She was born Feb. 1, 1911, in St. Leo, Minn., to Clement and Barbara (Tretter) Seimer.

Betty M. Fischer, 68, of rural New Ulm died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 11, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday and 7:30-10 a.m., Friday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Betty is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Mike Filzen of New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Fischer, Allan Fischer, Gary and Sarah Fischer, all of New Ulm; six grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Lakes of Winlock, Barb Baker of Alexandria, Janet Nelson of Fergus Falls, Bonnie Cassens of Crystal; brother, Edmund Pietsch of Madelia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter Fischer on June 26, 1975; and by a sister, Aletha Gronewald.
Betty was born May 24, 1934, in Madelia to Carl M. and Eva (Hartung) Pietsch. She attended school in Madelia and was a graduate of Madelia High School. She married Walter Fischer on May 10, 1958, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where she worked at various jobs in the New Ulm area until she worked for AMPI for 19 years. Betty retired in 1999. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends and being in the country.

Jenifer Friederich, 29, of Oshkosh, Wis., died Feb. 27, 2003, in a car accident.
She is the wife of Dan Friederich. She is survived by her grandmother-in-law, Sally Zwach of New Ulm and an uncle-in-law, Roger Zwach of New Ulm.
Services were held in Oshkosh.

Harold Knickrehm, 80, of St. James died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Emmanuel Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Services are 1 p.m., Saturday, April 12, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday and 7:30-11 a.m., Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; daughters, Julie Maxwell and Kristine Oleson; a brother, Reynold of Madelia; sisters, Lorraine Sawatzky of Madelia and Elaine Henze of Mountain Lake.
He was born May 31, 1922, in Watonwan County to Carl and Laura (Lange) Knickrehm. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II, from 1944-1946.

Adella M. Larsen, 87, of Redwood Falls, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Wood Dale Nursing Home.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood falls and continues one hour before the service Friday at the church.
She is survived by husband Carl of Redwood Falls; son Bradley Larsen of Granite Falls; daughters, Linda Merritt of St. Cloud, Krystal Danielson of Belview; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Mabel Homann of Ringsted, Iowa, Florence Plummer of Rosemead, Calif.; and brother, Roy Homann of Ringsted, Iowa.
She was born Nov. 25, 1915, in Graettinger, Iowa, to John and Emma (Bredemeyer) Homann.
She served in the Army during World War II.

Donald Timm, 84, formerly of Arlington and Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington followed by military honors in Arlington. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Kolden Funeral Home, Arlington.
He is survived by his children Richard, Rita Corcoran, Patricia Klunder and Carol Evenson; 15 grand and step-grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
He was born Nov. 11, 1918 in Wood Lake. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
