Vernon Zahn, 82, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2003, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Northfield with the Rev. John E. Quam officiating. Music will be provided by Ruth Ferguson and Ruth Legvold. Interment will be at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m., (assembly #4). Casket bearers will be Paul Dyste, Gerald Dyste, Eric Moe, Jeff Moe, Geoff Zahn and Andy Zahn.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, at Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield, and at St. John's Lutheran Church one hour prior to the funeral on Friday.
Vernon Frederick Zahn was born September 11, 1920, in Bellingham, Minn., to George and Martha (Boehnke) Zahn. He was raised in Bellingham and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1938. He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army.
He married Hannah Marie Dyste in 1944 in Abilene, Texas. They lived in New Ulm for 31 years where Vern taught history, physical education, and was athletic director for many years. He also served as head baseball coach and as an assistant coach in basketball and football. In 1978, after his retirement, Vern and Marie moved to Haines City, Florida, and in 1994 they moved to Northfield. Marie passed away in December 2000.
Vern was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Northfield Lions Club, and was the former president of the Home Owners Association at 1000 Cannon Valley Drive. During his teaching career he served as president of the Minnesota Athletic Directors Association and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota State High School League. Vern had a great sense of humor and he loved life and people. He was an avid bridge player and taught the game of bridge to many others.
Survivors include his children: David and his wife Jenni of Chicago, Illinois; Roger and his wife Anne of Minnetonka Beach; and Janet and her husband Jeff Moe of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Sarah McShane, Andrew, Geoffrey, and Elizabeth Zahn, and Eric Moe; his brother-in-law Ken Wilkins of Northfield; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his sister Aurelia Wilkins.

Dorothy and Elmer 'Spike' Nehls - Memorial service for Dorothy and Elmer "Spike" Nehls of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of New Ulm, will be 10 a.m., Monday, June 9, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in New Ulm with Rev. Leonard Claxton officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 8, at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Elmer died Jan., 18, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nev., at age 87. Dorothy died May 5, 2003, in Las Vegas at age 89.
Dorothy was born June 9, 1913, in New Ulm, the daughter of Lars and Sophia (Grebe) Belland. She attended public school and graduated from New Ulm High School.
Elmer was born Feb. 22, 1913, in New Ulm to John and Amanda (Schlumpberger) Nehls. He attended parochial school as a child. After graduating from New Ulm High School, he attended the St. Louis School of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo.
Dorothy and Elmer were married June 9, 1938, in New Ulm. They made their home in New Ulm until moving to Las Vegas in 1991.
Survivors include their son, Tom Nehls and his wife Nancy of Crystal Lake, Ill.; daughters, Sandy Stoltzman and her husband Chuck of Janesville, Patricia Heymann and her husband Richard of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Ibberson of Sleepy Eye; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to their parents, they were preceded in death by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; Elmer's brother Norman.
They were members of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and New Ulm Country Club.
Dorothy was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies Shrine Auxiliary, and the Ladie's Guild of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and she was an avid mushroom hunter.
Elmer was a member of Charity Lodge 98 A.F. and A.M., Zurah Shrine Temple, and the New Ulm Toastmasters.
The memorial service is being held on Dorothy's birthday and the couple's 65th wedding anniversary.

Gladys Bigot, 84, of Springfield, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, where she had been a resident since April 2003.
Service of remembrance will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
Survivors include daughters, Connie Tell of Lancaster, Calif., and Carla LaRosa of Aurora, Colo.; niece, Donna Mae Winmill of Walker; her beloved pet Amigo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles (Carl) in 1971; and a brother Donavon La Rosa.
Gladys Leona La Rosa, the daughter of George and Mary (Pautzke) La Rosa, was born May 18, 1919, at Parkers Prairie. She moved to Springfield with her parents. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1937. Gladys worked at the MidgetInn in Springfield before marrying Charles (Carl) Bigot on Nov. 1, 1941. They lived in Springfield, where they operated P & M Grocery until Carl's death in 1971. Gladys became an employee of Rexall Drug, working there for 13 years before retirement.
She was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mary Magdalene Circle, and enjoyed volunteering at St. John Home. She enjoyed reading, watching television, gardening, socializing with her many friends and driving her little blue Chevette. Her cat, Amigo, was her special companion.

Robert C. Luyben, 59, of Bismarck, N.D., and formerly of New Ulm, died June 2, 2003, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m., Saturday, June 14, at Boelter-Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Bismarck.
He is survived by daughters, Stacy Rae Landry of Duluth, Kimberly Luyben of Washington, D.C.; sister, JoAnn Winistorfer of Pick City, N.D.; and brother, David Luyben of Bismarck.
He was born Jan. 12, 1944, in Bismarck to Virgil and Alvina (Temanson) Luyben.

Gladys Meyer, 90, a resident of Peoria, Ariz., formerly of New Ulm, died of natural causes Sunday, June 1, 2003.
Using her intellectual and creative talents throughout life, she was a gifted teacher, author of numerous articles and a book titled "The Science of Sound and Spelling." She was an award winning photographer and a world traveler whose last trip in her 80s was to photograph the Blue Morpho butterfly in the rain forests of Brazil. Raised on a farm in Alba Township, Ill., she was industrious throughout life, working her way through Augustana College, and earning her master's degree from the University of Illinois, while raising a family of four children. She always actively participated in any activity or discussion taking place. If there wasn't an activity or discussion taking place, she would organize one.
Mrs. Meyer was formerly married to Homer N. Jackson, owner and operator of the Melo-Cream Donut Company, and she later married Edwin Meyer. She inspired a love of learning and life with all whom she had contact and she made a difference in the lives of everyone she met.
She is survived by her four children, Candace Pisterzi, Noel Jackson, Dr. Gregory Jackson, and Allen Jackson; and her sister Kathryn Leonard; eight grandchildren, Maria Goodridge-Pisterzi, John Pisterzi, Laura Pisterzi, Palesa Nicolini, Jennie Jackson, Martin Jackson, Ida Jackson, and Allen Jackson, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Josephine and Danielle Jackson. She was preceded in death by Edwin Meyer and by two grandchildren, Bethany Jackson and Erin Jackson.

Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at Runge Funeral Home, 838 East Kimberly Road, Davenport, Iowa. Pastor Martin Kalish will perform the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Runge Funeral Home.

Meta E. Kiecker, 82, of Valley View Manor in Lamberton, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at
Springfield Medical Center in Springfield.
A graveside service will be Friday, June 6, 2003, at 2:00 P.M., at the Emanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wellington Township, Renville County, Minn.
Arrangements are with the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel Fairfax.

Victor 'Vic' Rasmussen, 54, of Fergus Falls, formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, June 2, 2003, at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier's Rest Section. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
Victor is survived by his daughters, Katie Rasmussen and Vicki Thompson both of Underwood; son, Bill Rasmussen of Fergus Falls; mother, Dorothy Rasmussen of New Ulm; four grandchildren; brothers, Randy Rasmussen of Iowa, Steve Rasmussen of Faribault; and his sister Connie Bradshaw of Texas.
Victor was born on March 12, 1949, in Springfield, to Victor and Dorothy (Nelsen) Rasmussen. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Helen Louise Lochner, 57,of Edina, Minn., formerly of Sleepy Eye, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, with her family at her side.
Service of remembrance will be held at Sturm Funeral Home on Monday, June 9, at 2:30 p.m., Interment will follow at the Home Cemetery
Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye on Monday, June 9, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Helen was born on Feb. 5, 1946, in Sleepy Eye, Minn., the daughter of Hugo and Anna (Trebesch) Lochner. She grew up in Sleepy Eye. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Helen graduated from Sleepy Eye Public High School in 1963 and then attended D.M.L.C. in New Ulm where she received her teaching degree. She taught at Wisconsin Synod Elementary Schools in Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota, most recently at Salem Lutheran in Loretto, Minn., After retiring from teaching, Helen worked at Quality Lincoln Mercury in Bloomington and currently was working at Whitaker Lincoln Mercury in Inver Grove Heights. Helen was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, Minn. She dearly loved her nieces, nephews, great- nieces and great-nephews. She spent a lot of time with them and traveled with them to several areas of the world. Helen was an avid reader and had a large collection of music boxes.
Survivors include her brothers, William (Carol) Lochner of Sleepy Eye, Andrew (Rita) Lochner of Sleepy Eye; sisters Violet (David) Eichers of New Brighton and Viola (Stephen) Gericke of Arden Hills; nieces and nephews Derek Lochner, Susan Ahlness,Dan Lochner, Darren Lochner, Debbie Lochner, Sharon Gericke, Catherine Eichers, Dean Lochner, Sandra Carlson and Brian Eichers; and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Anna Lochner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.

Myrtle Nelson, 91, of St. James, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James.
Services are 11 a.m., Monday, June 9, at First Lutheran Church, St. James, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery
Visitation is 5-9 p.m., Sunday and 7:30-9 a.m., Monday, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James, and continues one hour before the service Monday at the church.
Myrtle is survived by children, Eugene Nelson of Cutbank, Mont., Gerald Nelson of St. James, Charlotte Holmquist of St. James; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Hazel Nelson of Evansville, Olive Babolian of Moorhead, Jessie Durheim of St. James, Carol Rettke of Odin; and brother, Lyle Wright of St. James,.
She was born on Jan. 26, 1912, to John and Maren (Froslan) Wright in Rosendale Township.

Roscoe Bonderman, 80, of 779 Allen Avenue in Gibbon, died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at his home.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County with burial in the church cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans organizations.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Roscoe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Steven Dallmann of Henderson; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Valerie Bonderman of Glencoe; six grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Irving Hagen of St. James, Arlys and Vincent Tharp of Fairmont; and a brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Gwen Bonderman of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Carol (Ehlers) Bonderman on April 14, 1965; second wife, Judith (Dahl) Bonderman on February 9, 1998; and a granddaughter, Darla Green on July 11, 1995.
He was born on September 29, 1922 in Madelia to Paul and Edna (Cornelius) Bonderman. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1945 and served in Great Lakes, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Pensacola, Florida and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married Carol Ehlers on December 15, 1960. After her death he married Judith Dahl on May 28, 1966. After their marriage they lived in Bloomington for five years and then moved to their farm in Moltke Township, Sibley County. They farmed until 1983 but continued to live on the farm. In 1997 they moved to Gibbon. He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post #226 in Gibbon and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County.

Ardella Enter, 80, of Nicollet died Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the Regions Hospital in St. Paul from injuries she sustained in an automobile accident in Cottage Grove.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Monday, June 9, 2003 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Monday.
Ardella is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and James Tjernagel of Cottage Grove, Nancy and Tim Zander of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, Bonnie and Kevin Loersch of Watertown, Wisconsin; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Dee Enter of Watertown, Douglas and Diane Enter of Appleton, Wisconsin, David and Christine Enter of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Allen and Joy Enter of Montello, Wisconsin and Joel and Anika Enter of Nicollet; thirty four grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Dallmann of Nicollet, Eldora Dallmann of New Ulm, Hazel Dallmann of Brooklyn Center and Esther Stoltz and Elviera Becker, both of New Ulm. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester on April 18, 1993; brothers, Harry, Walter, Daniel, Leonard, Edwin and Eldon Dallmann; and by sisters Lorene and a sister in infancy.
Ardella was born June 3, 1923 in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County to Gustav and Anna (Maas) Dallmann. She married Lester Enter on December 28, 1941 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. After marriage they farmed in Granby Township, Nicollet County. She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School.

Elmer Landgraff, 95, of Parkers Prairie, formerly of Franklin, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Central Lutheran Church in Camp Township, with interment in Fort Ridgely and Dale Cemetery in Camp Township, Renville County.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8th, and from 7:30- 9 a.m. Monday, June 9, at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Viola Landgraff of Woodside Township; sons, Delmer Landgraff of Woodside Township; Bob Landgraff of Franklin; daughter, Helen Johnson of Franklin; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Elmer William Landgraff was born on April 8, 1908, in Camp Township, Renville County, to Ole and Minnie (Lee) Landgraff.

Gertrude Forst, 94, of New Ulm and formerly of St. George died Friday, June 6, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the St. George Catholic Church in West Newton Township, Nicollet County with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday. There will be a combined rosary by the St. George Catholic Aid Society and the Council of Catholic Women at 6:30 p.m. and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Monday evening at the funeral home.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, LaVonne and Wally Ebert of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph K. and Mary Forst of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; sister, Agnes Wieland of New Ulm; and sisters-in-law, Josephine Fischer and Odelia Forst both of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph G. Forst on November 23, 1992; grandson, Kevin Bianchi on June 9, 1984; sister, Rose Spiess; brothers, Roman Fischer, Ferdinand Fischer, and Stanley Fischer; a sister-in-law, Elvera Fischer; and brothers-in-law, Alvin Spiess and William Wieland.
She was born on November 28, 1908 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to Charles and Mary (Matsch) Fischer. She married Joseph G. Forst on September 2, 1930 at the St. George Catholic Church in West Newton Township, Nicollet County. After marriage they farmed in West Newton Township until retiring in 1970 but continued to live on the farm. In 1986 they moved to New Ulm. She was a member of the St. George Catholic Church and a member of the St. George Catholic Aid Society and the Council of Catholic Women at church.

Orel Zieman, 72, of Brownton, died on Friday at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Services will be Monday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday 4-8 p.m. and continue Monday 8 a.m. till time of service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton.
Military honors by the Brownton American Legion.
Arrangements by the Hantge Funeral Chapel of Brownton.
