Kenneth M. Halverson, 80, of 1814 South Payne Street in New Ulm died Monday, June 9, 2003, at the Lutheran Home in Madelia.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Jeffrey A. Bovee officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue on Friday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.
Kenneth M. Halverson was born to Alvin and Clyda (Thormodson) Halverson on February 21, 1923 in Linden Township, Brown County. He attended New Ulm Public High School graduating in 1940. He went on to Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis graduating in 1942. Ken attended selected courses at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA in 1947, and the Dale Carnegie School in Atlanta, GA in 1948.
Kenneth married Betty Jean Mundy on February 17, 1946 at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Ken was hired by Ford Motor Company in 1944 at the St. Paul Plant and was transferred to Ford Motor Company in Atlanta in 1947 when the plant was first under construction. He became Manager of Purchasing in 1955. Ken retired from Ford Motor Company after 39 years of service in 1983, receiving a memento from Henry Ford II. Ken and Betty returned to New Ulm at that time.
Ken was a member of the Lutheran Church of Redeemer in Atlanta from 1947 to 1983, and a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in New Ulm since 1984.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean, of New Ulm; brother, Marlow Halverson and his wife, Adeline, of Madelia; sister, Arlene (Halverson) Meier of Lake Crystal; nephews, Greg Meier and his wife, Annie of St. Peter, Boyd Meier and his wife, Lori, of Hanska, Ron Halverson and his wife, Susan, of Madelia, Jeff Halverson and his wife, Kathyanne, of Madelia, Lee Halverson of Madelia, Eric Halverson and his wife, Cheryl, stationed with the U. S. Military in Germany; niece, Helen Larson, and her husband, Ronald, of Madelia; grandnephews, grandnieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many friends and neighbors.
Kenneth loved the land and was an enthusiastic gardener. He treasured his time and love with his wife, Betty, of 57 years. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the St. John's Lutheran Church Building Fund or to donor's choice.

Virgil Deibele, 80, of Sleepy Eye, died on Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital in Sleepy Eye.
Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, June 16, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday, and 7:30-9:30 a.m., Monday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
Virgil was born on December 23, 1922 in New Ulm, Minn., the son of Joseph and Vera (Strolke) Deibele. He grew up in Sleepy Eye and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1940. Virgil entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific. His ship was the first to land at Hiroshima, Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped. After his discharge he returned to Sleepy Eye and married Elaine Maurer on February 6, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The couple made their home in St. Paul where Virgil worked at Western Electric for a few years. They later returned to Sleepy Eye, and Virgil worked for Del Monte for 35 years before he retired. Virgil was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the VFW and the American Legion and had coached Junior High Basketball at St. Mary's and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events, watching comedy and history programs, reading history books, scrapbooking, dining out, listening to scripture, his dogs and sitting in the warm sun.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Deibele of Sleepy Eye, daughters, Dawn Deibele of Sleepy Eye, Diane Deibele and husband Jon Pederson of Minneapolis, Denice and husband Gary Teipel of Mankato, Debbie and husband Greg Braulick of Sleepy Eye, Mary and husband Bill Bruess of Minneapolis, sons, Dan and wife Barb Deibele of Long Prairie and Dean and wife Chris Deibele of Sleepy Eye, 18 grandchildren, Jesse and Justin Deibele, Collin and Dilcia Pederson, Hayley Teipel, Brett, Brynn, Briar and Bronte Braulick, Ryan,Brooks, Cole, Jacob & Allie Deibele, Tara, Tyler, Trevor & Talia Bruess, brother, Linus "Doc" and Marilyn Deibele of Sleepy Eye, sisters, Virginia Bruggeman of Sleepy Eye and Patricia Hurley of St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his parents,granddaughter, Courtney Pederson, brothers-in-law, Paul Hurley and Bill Bruggeman and nephew, Joe Deibele.

Charles Laesch, 69, of rural Winthrop died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial at a later date.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Charles is survived by his wife, Erma Laesch of rural Winthrop; daughters, Kristine Laesch of Hopkins, Sheryl Johnson of Young America; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Malinda Johnson and Jesse Johnson; and a brother, William Laesch of New Holstein, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was Born on January 27, 1934, in Milford, Nebraska to Rev. William and Violet (Engefort) Laesch. He was a teacher in a Lutheran school in Gillett, Arkansas. He married Erma Jensen on March 13, 1965 in Pine City. After marriage he was a teacher and principal in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Antigo, Wisconsin, Belvedere, Illinois, Burbank, California and then was a title one and classroom teacher in Grantsburg, Wisconsin and then was again a teacher and principal in New Germany and Gibbon. After retiring from teaching he worked various jobs in the New Ulm, Winthrop and Hutchinson area. He was well known for his singing voice and was a member of the Sibley County Chorus, Southwest Minnesota Chorale, and numerous church choirs. He enjoyed sports of all kinds, fishing and in his early years enjoyed camping. He was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop.

Wesley J. Simon, 71, of 418 North Jefferson in New Ulm, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, June 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday and from 7:30-9:30 a.m., Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Friday evening at the funeral home.
Wesley is survived by his wife, Lucille "Lucy" Simon of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Raymond Lange of Morgan, Barbara Becker of New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Pamela Simon of Redwood Falls; Pat Simon of New Ulm; five grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Gertrude Hegler of New Ulm, Marian and Albie Zollner of Fairfax; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Loretta Simon of New Ulm; and a sister-in-law, Veronica Simon of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willmar Simon and a brother in infancy; and a sister in infancy.
He was born on November 29, 1931, in Home Township, Brown County, to Joseph and Caroline (Reinarts) Simon. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Lucille Goblirsch on August 5, 1952, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Cottonwood Township, Brown County until 1967 when they moved to New Ulm. He then worked as a meat cutter at City Meat Market in New Ulm until retiring in 1984. He was best known for preparing "Grandpa's Homemade Horseradish.". He enjoyed lectoring at church, gardening, and visiting with people. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans; the St. Patrick's Council 1076, Knights of Columbus; and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. The family prefers memorials be given in lieu of flowers.

Sheridan 'Shorty' Young, 95, of Redwood Falls, died Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is 4:30-7:30 p.m., Friday at the church and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
He is survived by his children, Neil of Springfield, Janice Schei and Sharon Hegdal of Fort Collins, Colo., Julie Thomas of Redwood Falls and Greg of Redwood Falls.
He was born May 30, 1908 in Courtland to Philip and Emma (Weiland) Young.

Barbara A. Bergren, age 60 of St Francis, MN, passed away June 13, 2003 at North Memorial Medical Center, Robbinsdale, following a brief unexpected illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Olivet Baptist Church, 3420 Nevada Ave N., Crystal, MN. Graveside services will be Tuesday 3:30 p.m. at Fort Ridgely Cemetery, Fairfax, MN.
Visitation will be Monday, June 16, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. at Gearty Delmore Funeral Chapel, 3888 W. Broadway, Robbinsdale, MN, and at church one hour before services,
Barbara was born August 17, 1942 in Sleepy Eye, MN to Dalmer E. and Anita (Rohde) Sander. She graduated from Fairfax High School and the Minnesota School of Business. She was employed as a payroll specialist at the J.C. Penney department store in Brookdale Shopping Center, Brooklyn Center, MN since Oct. 24, 1979. She married Jay Bergren eight years ago.
Survivors include husband, Jay; children, Steven L. Fleming of Calif., Linda K. Peloquin of Maple Grove, MN, Gregg A. Fleming of Ellijay, GA, Lori A. Kryszewski of Clarksville, TN, Andrew J. Bergren of Minneapolis, MN, Todd A Bergren of St. Cloud, and Nicole L. Cordie of Minneapolis; mother Anita (Rohde) Sander of Fairfax, MN, 9 grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ralph D. Sander of Bird Island, MN, Darlene A. Kissner of Redwood Falls, Charles D. Sander of West Plains, Mo. and Rebecca Radermacher of Franklin, MN.
She was preceded in death by father Dalmer E. Sander.

Grace Eleanor Davis, 86,of Springfield, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Springfield Medical Center Hospital.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 19, at United Methodist Church in Springfield with burial in the Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation is 9-10:30 a.m., Thursday, at the church.
Arrangements are handled by the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
She is survived by her husband Harold "Tubby" Davis of Springfield; sons, Dr. Paul Davis of San Diego, Calif., John Davis of Sanborn, Mark Davis of Las Vegas; daughter Virginia "Ginny" Witte of Lewisville, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Grace Eleanor Davis was born October 21, 1916, in Perkins County, S.D. to Albert and Dorthea ( Jensen) Thompson.

Erwin J. Hillesheim, 85, of 910 2nd North St., New Ulm, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 18, at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, and 7:30-10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council will pray a combined rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Tuesday at the funeral home.
Erwin is survived by his wife, Elaine of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Richard Wills, Mary and Gary Mertz, Connie and Mike Stueber, all of New Ulm and Lori and Brian Franta of Gibbon; sons and daughters-in-law, Allan Hillesheim of Minneapolis, Myron and Monica Hillesheim, Michael and Cindy Hillesheim, Anthony and Deb Hillesheim, Brian and Barb Hillesheim, all of New Ulm; 30 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene Schlumpberger of New Ulm, Bernice Holm of Winthrop, Marcella Wenninger of New Ulm, Gladys and Kenneth Salfer of Wabasso; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Margaret Hillesheim, Lester and Catherine Hillesheim all of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Delores Lamecker of Hutchinson; and a brother-in-law and sister-in law, Melvin and Asteria Hindermann of Fairfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Vera and Albert Hoffmann; a sister-in-law, Thelma Hillesheim; brothers-in-law, Henry Holm, Art Schlumpberger, Ray Wenninger, Leo Lamecker and Albert Hindermann Jr..
Erwin was born February 28, 1918 in Sigel Township, Brown County to John A. and Lillian (Berg) Hillesheim. He married Elaine Hindermann on September 28, 1943 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County until 1984 when they moved to New Ulm. Erwin remained active in farming with his sons until his death. Erwin was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the St. Patrick's Council of the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council. He served on District 6 and 179 School Board, AMPI Board and the Farm City Hub Club from which he received the Service to Agriculture Award. He was also instrumental in building the Sigel Ballpark. Erwin was a loving husband and father who enjoyed time with his grandchildren, farming, fishing, hunting, dancing, old time music, bowling, card playing, visiting and having coffee with his friends.
In lieu of flowers, Erwin's family prefers memorials to New Ulm Area Catholic Schools, American Heart Association and the Diabetes Association.

Helen Kenning, 93, of New Ulm, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Helen Louisa Wilhelmina Unverworn, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Meyer) Unverworn, Sr., was born November 7, 1909, in Brighton Township, Nicollet County, Minn. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural District 59 school. Helen married John O. Kenning on Sept. 8, 1932, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Together they operated her family's home farm in Brighton Township before retiring from farming and moving into New Ulm in 1963. For several years she worked as a school cook for New Ulm public schools. Her husband died November 6, 2001. Helen was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a former Ladies Aid member.
Survivors include her daughters, Marie Brandel of New Ulm, Ramona Danhouser and her husband Ed of Hutchinson, Kan., Helen Mae Olson and her husband Lynn of New Ulm; son, Elray "Bud" Kenning and his wife Phyllis of Mankato; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great- grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Emmy Mueller of New Ulm, Elvira Kenning of Hackensack, Marie Kenning of Bird Island; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by her son-in-law George Brandel in 2001, an infant grandson, great-granddaughter MeLissa Knaub, five brothers and one sister.

Lorraine Shultz, 86, of Sleepy Eye, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Service will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, at Sturm Funeral Home Chapel in Springfield.
Visitation will be noon until 2 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her sons, John Shultz of Mt. Shasta, Calif., Tom Shultz of Lompoc, Calif., and Russell Shultz of Santa Barbara, Calif.; and daughter Holly Shultz of Minneapolis.
Elizabeth "Lorraine" Shultz was born July 22, 1916, to Richard and Emma (Boelter) Mielke in Bowden, N.D.

Beata E. Stolt, 95, of North Mankato, formerly of Courtland, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral services are 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church starting at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Woodland Hills Funeral Home, Mankato.
Beata was born February 27, 1908, in Nicollet County to Fred Sr. and Alvina (Bode) Stolt. She was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Courtland. She was baptized by Rev. Strassen in March of 1908 and also confirmed by Rev. Strassen on April 9, 1922.
Beata worked for Attorney Robert and Patsy Regan for many years, also for Paul Mulreadys and Jim Daileys of Mankato. She baked wedding cakes for family and friends. Beata was a caregiver to the young and the elderly. Beata lived on the Stolt family farm until moving to Nicollet in 1995. In 2001, she moved to North Point in North Mankato.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Olga (in infancy) and Alvina; seven brothers, William, Fred, Alfred, Ernst, Herbert, Hans and Gerhardt (in infancy).
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ruth Dallmann, 89, of Nicollet, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at the Grandview Care Center in St. Peter.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Courtland Township, Nicollet County, with Pastor Wayne Bernau officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 1 - 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being handled by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Nicollet.
Ruth is survived by a sister-in-law, Lila Bode, a resident of the St. Peter Health Care Center; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Daniel C. Dallmann on Oct. 29, 1989; a daughter, Janis Dallmann on May 21, 1958; brothers Alfred, Gerhard, Theodore, Hilbert, Louis, and Carl Bode; and by sisters, Mabel Braun and Selma Apitz.
Ruth Helena Dallmann, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Becker) Bode was born on April 2, 1914, in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School, rural Courtland. On April 13, 1936, she was united in marriage to Daniel C. Dallmann at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland. After marriage they farmed in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County. They retired in 1977, and moved to Nicollet in 1978. For 10 years Ruth worked at the Johnson Uniform Company in St. Peter. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, and a charter member of the Dorcas Society. She was a resident of the Grandview Care Center since February of 2003.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Immanuel Lutheran School, the Dorcas Society, or the Immanuel St. Joseph Hospice program.

Mary Locher, 89, of Minneapolis and formerly of Henderson, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at her home.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m., Friday, June 20, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is one hour before the service at the church.
Kolden Funeral Service is handling arrangements.
She is survived b daughter Susan Anderson of Brooklyn Center; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
She was born May 2, 1914, in Jessenland Township, Sibley County, to Oscar and Ann (Fuhrman) Moison.

Chester Meierding, 71, of Redwood Falls and formerly of Morgan, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at Sunwood Good Samaritan care Center.
Services are 1 p.m., Friday, June 20, at Morgan United Methodist Church with burial in the Morgan city Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Thursday, at Redwood valley Funeral Home; and continues one hour before the service Friday at the church.
He is survived by siblings, Stanley Meierding of Forth Worth, Texas, Wesley Meierding of Parks, AR; Carol Friedrich of Redwood Falls; Erwin Meierding of Morgan; and Dorothy Miners of San Diego, Calif.
He was born Jan. 17, 1932, in Morgan township, to Erwin and Sophie (Laabs) Meierding.
