Clarence and Pearl Zupfer, 78 and Pearl Zupfer, 67, husband and wife, of 2526 South Bridge Street in New Ulm died Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester of natural causes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, July 7, 2003 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier's Rest Section. Full Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery for Clarence by the New Ulm Veteran's Organizations. Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Sunday and 7:30 - 10 AM Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
They are survived by their daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Randy Mack and Julie and Brian Pfarr, all of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Karen Zupfer of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dave and Teresa Zupfer of Lewisville, Mike Zupfer of New Ulm, John Zupfer of Mankato, Joe and Patricia Zupfer of New Ulm and Rob and Jill Zupfer of New Ulm; nineteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Clarence is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Charles Zupfer of Zumbrota, James and Catherine Zupfer of Savannah, Georgia, and Thomas and June Zupfer of Oren, Utah. Pearl is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores and Louis Rogge of Chicago Heights, Illinois, Dora and Dennis Warburton of Crete, Illinois, Beatrice and Jim Minelli of Steger, Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Cheryl Smith and Robert Smith, all of Steger, Illinois. They were both preceded in death by their parents; and a son, Ricky Zupfer on January 25, 1981. Clarence was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Pearl was preceded in death by two brothers.
Clarence was born March 16, 1925 in Milroy to Nick and Julia (Bolger) Zupfer. Pearl was born December 17, 1935 in Cottonwood to Chancey and Nora (Pettijohn) Smith. Clarence Served in the United States Navy during WWII. They were married on June 30, 1952 in Milroy. After marriage they farmed in rural Milroy. They moved to New Ulm in 1968 where Clarence worked for Kraft Foods until he retired. Pearl worked at various restaurants in the New Ulm area. They were members of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and Clarence was also a member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm.

Lorena Weber, 96, of Sleepy Eye, died on Friday, July 4, 2003 at Sleepy Eye Care Center, Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30- 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1906, in Leavenworth, to Martin and Hanna (Koble) Schneider.
She is survived by sons, Gary of Sleepy Eye, Donald of Tucson, Ariz., and Kenneth of Farmington, MN; a daughter, Charlotte Wall, of Los Angeles, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Ruth I. Garnhardt, 93, of Redwood Falls died Friday, July 4, 2003 at Wood Dale Nursing Home, Redwood Falls.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at New Avon Methodist Church, New Avon Township, rural Redwood Falls with burial in Crestlawn Gardens, Redwood Falls.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service, Redwood Falls and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons, Eugene of Clements and Marvin of Redwood Falls; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, Irvin Quesenberry of Morgan, Howard of Wabasha and Alvin of Minnetonka; sisters Pearl Rogers of San Mateo, Calif. and Clara Jane Buchanan of Fairfax, Va.
Ruth Irene Garnhardt was born July 16, 1909 in Prophetstown Township, Whiteside County, Ill. to Newton and Bertha (Royer) Quesenberry.

Frank Kuttner, 88, of Stewart, died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at St. Boniface Church in Stewart with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife Frances of Stewart; children, Richard of Hutchinson, Barbara Prow of Willmar, Jim of Denver. Colo., Paul of Austin, and Tom of Arlington; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, George of Stewart.
He was born April 4, 1915 in Stewart to Charles and Mary (Vetter) Kuttner.

Elmer J. Sjogren, 84, of rural Lafayette died Saturday, July 5, 2003 at the Northridge Health Care Center in New Hope.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service at church on Tuesday.
Elmer is survived by his wife, Elaine of rural Lafayette; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Campa of Crystal; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Deanna Sjogren of Lafayette; and grandchildren, Melessa and Curtis Henderson of Shakopee, Eric and Tracy Sievert Sjogren of Lafayette, Jeffrey Campa and Aaron Campa of Crystal. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Myrtle Sjogren on August 11, 1947; a sister, Anna Lund; and a brother, George Sjogren.
Elmer was born July 23, 1918 in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County to John and Alma Sjogren. He attended Lafayette Public Schools. He married Myrtle Alm on October 20, 1946. After his first wife died during childbirth, he married Elaine Fjell on November 17, 1949 at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette. Elmer farmed his entire life on the family farm in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County. He was member of the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette where he served on the cemetery board. He had served as an officer and member of the Lafayette Township Board, Lafayette Good Samaritan Home, Nicollet County Planning and Zoning Commission, Region Nine Development Board, Klossner State Bank and the Desert Dawn Mobile Home Park in Mesa, Arizona.

David Boeck, 59, of Madelia, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Salem Lutheran Church in Madelia, with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
Arrangements are with Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia.
He is survived by his mother Esther Boeck of Madelia; and brother Larry Boeck of Fort Collins, Colo.
He was born Aug. 16, 1943, to Anton and Esther (Gens) Boeck in Willow Creek.

Benhard Green, 68, of rural Springfield, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at his home.
Visitation is 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. Burial will be Wednesday at noon at the Springfield City Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, LeAnn Miller of Worthington; one grandson; brothers, Bruce Green of Sanborn and James Green of Iron.
Benhard Albert Green was born Sept. 4, 1934, in Springfield to Golden and Lillian (Sydow) Green.
He served in the U.S. Air Force on from Dec.12, 1951 to Dec. 5, 1955.

Delores Olson, 84, of Hector, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at the United Methodist Church in Hector, with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.
Arrangements are with the Raymond D. Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.

Loren Zihlke, 52, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in Dubuque.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Dubuque.
Loren is survived by his mother Irene Zihlke of Apache Junction, Ariz; wife Cheri Zihlke of Dubuque, Iowa; sons, Jeff and Jamie Zihlke of Dubuque, Iowa; and sisters, Linda Kehn of New Ulm; and LeAnn Martens of Apache, Ariz.
Loren Zihlke was born March 7, 1951, to Irene and Emil Zihlke.

Estelle M. Baier, 90, of 1600 North Franklin Street in New Ulm and formerly of 909 North Payne Street in New Ulm, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 11, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday and 7:30 - 10 a.m., Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m., Thursday at the Cathedral. The St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
Estelle is survived by her daughter, LaDonna Alfson of New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law, Darvone and Jean Baier of Bentonville, Arkansas; a daughter-in-law, Dolores Baier of New Ulm; grandchildren, Deb Tauer, Terry Alfson, Patty Hosna, Tony Baier, Sherry Bottenfield, Jill Zupfer, Kelly Baier, Stacy Baier Giedraitis, Brad Baier, Greg Baier, and Brian Baier; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosella Berkner of Jackson; brothers and sister-in-law, Melvin and Donna Suess of New Ulm and Raymond Suess of Dallas, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anton "Tony" Baier on June 4, 1966; a son, James Baier on May 21, 1999; a son-in-law, Wayne Alfson on February 23, 1996; sisters, Alice Suess and Marcella Suess in infancy; brother, Roman Suess; sister-in-law, Alice Suess; and a brother-in-law, Warren Berkner.
Estelle was born July 22, 1912, in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County to Andrew and Katherine (Ubl) Suess. She married Anton Baier on September 4, 1933, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where she worked at the Waneeda Bakery and Veigel's Kaiserhoff. She then worked as a cook and housekeeper at the rectory at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, Christian Mothers Society, St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Society for more than 50 years, CAST, Humdingers Band, CAST Choir, PRO, RSVP, New Ulm Medical Center Auxiliary, Golden Age Club and the Foster Grandparents. Estelle enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, people and doing volunteer work the last years of her life. She loved her family and was always there for whomever needed her.
You did a fine job Mother, a mighty fine job!

Bernice H. Bratsch, 94, of Columbia Heights, formerly of Franklin, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at the Crest View Lutheran Home, in Columbia Heights.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Friday, July 11, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Franklin, with burial in the Franklin Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
The Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Bernice is survived by daughter, Sally Bratsch of Brooklyn Center; one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and one step granddaughter.
Bernice Hattie (Lothert) Bratsch was born on May 15, 1909, in Birch Cooley Township, Renville County, Minn., to Gustuf and Louisa Lothert.

Martha C. Cleary of Omaha, Neb. passed away at the age of 89 years on Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at St. Joseph Villa in Omaha.
Born June 21, 1914, to Bernard and Theresa Kaup in Stuart, Neb., Martha attended and graduated from Stuart High School, attended Wayne State Teachers' College and taught for seven years in rural Holt County schools.
She married Clement Cleary at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stuart on May 15, 1939. They lived in Omaha, Neb., for six years before moving to Atkinson, Neb, where Clement owned the Cleary Market and Locker Plant with his brother. In 1956 the family moved to Sleepy Eye, Minn., where the Clearys owned and operated the Sleepy Eye Locker for 11 years. Her husband passed away in 1978. Martha was an active member of her church and was a volunteer at both nursing homes and at the Senior Citizens Center in Sleepy Eye. She returned to the Omaha area in 1999 to be near her family.
She is preceded in death by husband, Clement, parents, five sisters and two brothers. She is survived by sons Robert (Kitz) -- Menominee, Wis.; Michael (Bev) -- Boise, Idaho; James (Trish) -- Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Timothy (Carrie) -- Plymouth, Minn.; daughters Donna (Vern) Krysl -- Bellevue, Neb.; Jeanne (John) Zupfer -- Round Rock, Texas; brothers Vic Kaup, Tom Kaup, Fred Kaup -- Stuart, Neb.; Dennis Kaup -- Atkinson, Neb.; Gene Kaup -- Paramount, Calif.; sister Beata Krueger -- Atkinson, Neb.; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Bellevue, Neb. Graveside services will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. Memorials are requested to St. Mary's Church in Sleepy Eye.

Verdjel Ellsworth Elg died Monday, July 7, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 11, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey, with burial at Faith Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.
Verdjel is survived by sister Roselyn Donner of Alexandria.
Verdjel Ellsworth Elg was born Sept. 9, 1907, in Selma Township, Cottonwood County, to Henning and Emma (Peterson) Elg.

Wallace E. Loose, 84, of Morgan, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Morgan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Morgan; and continues one hour before the service Friday at the church.
He is survived by brothers, Willis of Chaska; sister, Carole Young of Springfield;
He was born Jan. 29, 1919 in Morgan in Otto and Lena 9Kilgas) Loose.
He service in World War II from 1942 to 1945.

Mary P. (Ruff) Pyfferoen, 86, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Franklin, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Visitation is 9:30-11 a.m., Friday, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Franklin.
Service is 11 a.m., Friday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Anthony Ruff officiating.
Burial will be Friday, July 11, at St. Patrick's Birch Coulee Cemetery in Franklin.
Arrangements with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye
Mary was born on March 1, 1917, in Birch Coulee Township, the daughter of John and Nellie (Lorden) Ruff. She grew up in Franklin and graduated from high school in 1934. Mary attended the Minneapolis Business College and moved to Nebraska where she worked for Commodity Credit. She married Edward Schroeder on October 23, 1945, in Nebraska. The couple moved to St. Paul where Mary worked for the IRS for many years. Edward died in 1974, and Mary returned to the Franklin area in 1975, spending her winters in Arizona. She married Joseph Pyfferoen on April 21, 1981. The couple made their home in Apache Junction, AZ. After Joseph died in 1988, Mary later moved to Sleepy Eye and made her home at the Lake Villa Apartments for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Catholic Aid, C.O.F., and the National Assn. for Retired Federal Workers. She was loyal to the Democratic Party. She was an active member of the church parishes to which she belonged. Mary enjoyed traveling and square dancing.
Survivors include her sisters, Loretta Ryan of Springfield, Agnes Jean Kickul of Mankato and brother, John "Jack" and wife Eunice Ruff of Franklin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Ed and Joe and sister Eileen Anderson.
