Pearl Eckberg, 84, of Winthrop, died on Friday, Aug. 1, 2003, in Winthrop.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop, with burial in the Bernadotte Lutheran Cemetery in Bernadotte Township.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop, and one hour priur to services at the church.

Clarence F. Hauser, 91, of 1417 Heinenhill in New Ulm, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Monday and 7:30-9:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Monday at the funeral home.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Bernetta Hauser, a resident of the Lafayette Good Samaritan Assisted Living in Lafayette; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Hauser of Bloomington, Shirley and Harold Carlson of rural New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Mary Beth Hauser of Lafayette; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecilia "Dolly" Flatau of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hildegarde Hauser on July 14, 1983; sisters, Agnes Rewitzer, Gertrude Reinhart and Crescentia Reinarts.
Clarence was born July 24, 1912, in Lafayette Township, Nicollet County, to John and Mary (Klinkhammer) Hauser. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm. He married Hildegarde Teresa Goblirsch on October 10, 1939, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Cottonwood Township, Brown County until 1947. They then moved to Lafayette Township, Nicollet County where they farmed until retiring in 1978. After the death of his wife, Clarence moved to New Ulm in 1986. He married Bernetta Marks on April 19, 1986, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Clarence was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm and the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at Jevnaker Lutheran Church of rural Montevideo.
He was married to Denise Adams, formerly of New Ulm.
He is survived by his wife, Denise; two children, Andrew and Nicole Wehrkamp; two stepchildren: Tyler and Zachary Adams; his parents, Jim and Alice Wehrkamp of Montevideo; a sister, Peggy Reynolds and her husband Mitch of Cottage Grove, MN; and two nephews, Mason and Aaron Reynolds.

She is survived by her husband, Curtis Eckberg of Winthrop; sons, John Eckberg of New Hope, Peter Eckberg of Falcon Heights, Paul Eckberg of Coon Rapids; daughter, Pastor Marie Eckberg of Minneapolis; nine grandchildren; and brothers, Karl Bornhoft of Park Rapids, and Arlie Bornhoft of Billings, Mont.
Pearl (Bornhoft) Eckberg was born on April 28, 1919, in Tyler, Minn., to Andrew and Agnes (Kjergaard) Bornhoft.

Elizbeth Ann Kuester, 59 died, July 25, at Hospice in the Valley Mesa, AZ. A private memorial service was held for her by family, nieces and nephews. Her parents were the late Raymond and Alvera (Brust) Kuester of Courtland. She is survived by her brothers Michael and wife Darlene of New Ulm, John of Courtland, and Margie and Bryan Forst of St. George. She went to St. Paul's Lutheran grade school, graduated from New Ulm High in 1962. She went to Northwestern School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She kept up her schooling and became a nurse practitioner and worked in many different states. She was born, February 20, 1944.Adolph NelsenCLEMENTS -- Adolph Nelsen, 95, of Clements, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the Springfield Medical Center Hospital.
Service is 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and continues at 9 a.m., Wednesday at the church. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by wife Adeline of Clements; sons, Mark Nelsen of Clements, Patrick Nelsen of Clements, Steven Nelsen of Clements; daughter Barbara Hansen of Sleepy Eye; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Arno Nelsen of Hood River, Ore.
Adolph Morris Nelsen was born July 28, 1908, in Sundown Township, Redwood County, to James and Mary (Jacobsen) Nelsen.

Louis Runck, 88, of Fairfax, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center of complications following surgery for a broken hip. He had been a resident of the Fairfax Community Home for the past three years.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fairfax, Pastor Roger Allmendinger officiating. Burial will be at Camp Cemetery, rural Fairfax, following the services. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until the time of the service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Fairfax.
Louis Richard Runck was born Aug. 27, 1914, to Robert and Ada Current Runck of rural New Ulm. He attended school in New Ulm and received training at the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture. He married Evelyn Semerud of Fairfax on June 4, 1940, and began farming near Bird Island. Believing that the farm economy would collapse after World War II, he took a job as manager of an oil cooperative in Essig in 1945. When his fear about the economy proved unfounded, he and Evelyn returned to farming outside of Fairfax in 1949. He had lived in the Fairfax area ever since.
Louis was an active member of civic organizations, including the Fairfax Coop Creamery Board, the Lions Club, and the Renville County Sheriff's posse. He was a member of the Fairfax Board of Education for 15 years, serving as secretary for several years. His prowess as a farmer was recognized when he won the 1953 Renville County plowing contest.
Louis loved to travel. When the demands of farming permitted, he would pack the family into the car and take off to destinations around the Midwest. Later, he and Evelyn frequently visited the southwestern United States and Hawaii and made foreign trips as well. After Evelyn died in 1982, he traveled to Australia and New Zealand.
On Nov. 4, 1983, he married Lucille Lammers Rieke of Morgan -- she was formerly director of the Fairfax Nursing Home. The couple continued to travel frequently during their retirement.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ada Runck; first wife Evelyn Runck; brother, Roman Runck; and sister, Lola Glas.
Louis is survived by his wife Lucille, Fairfax; by daughters Sandra (Phillip) Edwardson, Minneapolis, Bette, Garrett Park, Md., and Mary (Douglas) Elbert, Bird Island; he is also survived by sons John (Barbara), El Paso, Texas, Ronald (Shirley), Coon Rapids, and Wally (Iris), Thomas (Brenda), and Ricky, all of Fairfax; and by 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by stepdaughters Linda (Dan) Turbes, Fairfax, Becky (Douglas) Sell, Morgan, and Kate (Glenn) Seifert, Morgan; and stepsons Bruce Rieke (Eilene), Minot, N.D., Alan Rieke, Edina, and Michael (Brenda) Rieke, Morgan; brother, Robert (Helen) Runck, New Ulm; sisters, Elinor Lee, Hutchinson, and Ruth (Leo) Wilfahrt, New Ulm; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Erna Sauer, 96, of 515 N. Front St. in New Ulm, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at the Westchester Nursing Home in Tempe, Ariz.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Erna is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna "Dee" and Richard Groschupf of Green Valley, Ariz., Luverne Johnson of Chandler, Ariz., and Evelyn and Robert Bernet of Owatonna; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kurt Sauer in May of 1975; sisters, Martha Vorwerk and Ann Cordes; brother Art Harms; and a son-in-law, C. Odell Johnson.
Erna was born on Nov. 13, 1906, in Gibbon, to Fred and Anna (Silberman) Harms. She married Kurt Sauer on Aug. 23, 1928, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, a member of the Ladies Aid (Quilters) at church, and a member of the New Ulm Senior Citizens.

Thomas Drexler, Jr., 51, of Franklin, died on Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at home following a sudden short illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Birch Cooley Township, Renville County. Visitation will be 4 - 9 p.m. today and 9 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. There will be a rosary prayed at 4:30 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. Arrangements are with the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel of Fairfax.
Thomas Joseph Drexler, Jr. was born on Aug. 7, 1951, in Sleepy Eye, to Tom and Clarice (Lax) Drexler.
On Sept. 21, 1974, Tom was united in marriage to Linda Schroeder at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. After marriage, they resided in Franklin, where Tom worked for the local telephone company. In 1977, they had their first child, John. Shortly before the birth of their daughter in 1980, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where Tom worked for Sun State Construction. In 1987, they decided to move back home to Franklin. Tom then went to work for Wallner Construction in New Ulm, now known as M.R. Paving, as their shop supervisor and truck mechanic.
Tom was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Milton and Dorothy Toreen; and sister-in-law, Joyce Schroeder.
Tom is survived by his wife Linda Drexler of Franklin; daughter Tina Weber and her husband Jered of Franklin; son John Drexler and his wife Shanna of Willmar; parents Tom and Clarice Drexler of Franklin; sisters, Diane Rieke and her husband Kenn of Franklin, and Mary Crain and her husband Charlie of Mankato; brothers-in-law, Gene Schroeder and his wife Diane of Glendale, Ariz., and Duke Schoeder and his wife Ronny of Mankato; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many friends and co-workers.

Marjorie Houck, 78, of Hector, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at United Methodist Church in Hector, with burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.

Hedvig 'Margaret' Klotz, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Community Hospital in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m., Wednesday at the church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service on Thursday.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Hedvig is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Roger Hull of New Ulm, Carol and Milan Jordan of Grand Rapids; a son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Dawn Klotz of Sleepy Eye; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur E. Klotz on March 23, 1998; two sisters; and two brothers.
Hedvig was born June 23, 1918, in St. James to Carl and Anna (Hagstelle) Palmquist. She married Arthur E. Klotz on February 14, 1941 at her parents farm in rural St. James. After marriage they lived in Sleepy Eye where Hedvig was employed as a cook at various restaurants in the area and also as a cook at the Sleepy Eye Public Elementary School. She also worked as a seasonal employee with Del-Monte in Sleepy Eye and at AUl. After Hedvig and her husband retired, they became caretakers of the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye. They thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor work at the cemetery. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye and was also active in the Ladies Aid at church.

Lloyd Strom, 76, of Hanska, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at Abbot-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at Linden Lutheran Church in rural Hanska, with Rev. Marcia Hegna officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church.
Lloyd Irving Strom, the son of Carl and Cora (Olson) Strom, was born Feb. 11, 1927, in Linden Township, Brown County, Minn. As a child, he grew up on the family farm and attended District 38 county school near Hanska. He farmed with his family and later worked construction in the Twin Cities and Mankato. Lloyd did tree cutting and plowed snow for many years in and around Hanska. He enjoyed attending threshing bees and was a steam engine enthusiast. Lloyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hanska, having grown up in the Linden parish.
Survivors include his son Mark Strom of Hanska; brothers, Orville Strom of New Ulm, and Harley Strom and his wife Dorothy of Robbinsdale; sister, Delores Smith and her husband Howard of Hanska; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Strom; and sister, Delphine Strom.

Margaret C. Urbach, 88, of Willmar, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Heritage Nursing Home.
Services are 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 8, at Vinje Lutheran Lutheran Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and one hour before the service at the church.
Among the survivors are daughter JoAnn Caroline and Dennis Schmidt of New Ulm; sons, George "Hank" and Susie Urbach of Centerville, Calif., Robert "Barry" and Laurie Urbach of Napa, Calif.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Verna Tillotson of Fredricksburg, Va.

Charlotte Krueger, 75, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in St. Paul.
Services are 10 a.m., Saturday, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis at 2:45 p.m.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Friday, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and continues one hour before the service at the church.
She is survived by son, Garrett Krueger of St. Paul; and two grandchildren.
She was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Merrill and Edna (Bellman) Clark.

Leslie M. Yarger, 94, of Lake Crystal, and formerly of rural Cambria, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at the Mankato House Health Care Center in Mankato.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, at the Kerns Oak Grove Cemetery in Belgrade Township, Nicollet County. Pastor Gary Grunzke will be the officiant.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Leslie is survived by grandsons, Roger Yarger and his wife Carol of New Ulm, and Robert Yarger and his wife Marcy of Lake Crystal; and by five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary, his second wife, Maude; a son, Leon M. Yarger; and a granddaughter, Lezley Yarger.
Leslie Melvin Yarger, the son of Leslie and Rachel (Swisler) Yarger, was born on June 6, 1909, in Iowa. He farmed his entire live on the family farm near Cambria.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the Salvation Army.

Leonard Bernardy, 80, of New Ulm, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Friday, at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Leonard Joseph Bernardy, the son of John and Wilhelmina (Gosler) Bernardy, was born Dec. 4, 1922 in Minneota. Leonard entered the United States Army in March, 1943. He served in the European Theatre during World War II and was honorably discharged in February, 1946. He married Dorothy Stay on July 24, 1949 in Montevideo. They resided in Minneota until moving to New Ulm in 1957. He was employed at Super Value and Dannheim's Dairy.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of New Ulm; sons, Joe Bernardy and his wife Ronni of Altoona, Wis., Steve Bernardy and his wife Karen of Livonia, Mich.; daughters, Denise Redepenning and her husband Bob of Litchfield, Candy Roiger and her husband Gary, and Bonnie Mangen, of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Gayle Bernardy and his wife Harriet, Randy Bernardy and his wife Darlene, of Minneota; sister, Barbara Summerfelt and her husband Lawrence of Taunton; sister-in-law, Betty Anderson and her husband Jim; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Carol Huna; two daughters in infancy; and brothers, Bernard, Ordell, Clarence and Melvin Bernardy.
