Hazel Meine, 87, formerly of 1014 Center St. in New Ulm, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Pastor Joyce Tollefson Capp will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Hazel is survived by a sister-in-law, Lilian Meine of New Ulm; a niece, Mary Jane Steen of San Diego, Calif.; a nephew, Fred Byron Meine of Eagan; and two grand-nieces, Katherine and Jennifer Steen of San Diego, Calif.
In her early career she served as a reporter for Dun & Bradstreet in St. Paul and as Secretary in the regional office of WPA. During WWII, she served as Selective Service Officer in the St. James and St. Peter offices. From May 1947 to May 1979 she had a long and distinguished career with the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce office.

Verna Klukas, 89 of Winthrop, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in Arlington.
Services will be 11 a.m. today at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. today at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will resume one hour prior to services at the church.
Verna is survived by her son, Wayne Klukas of Winthrop; sisters, Esther Stresemann of Mankato, Leona Rose of Winthrop, Ruth Klukas of Gibbon, Alpha Geslin of Columbia Heights and Elaine Klukas of Winthrop
Verna Emma (Pagel) Klukas was born Jan. 31, 1914, in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, to John and Bertha (Rettmann) Pagel.

Isabelle Grace Poncin, 95, of Morgan, died on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday with a combined parish and C.C.W. rosary at 7 p.m. at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Morgan, and an hour prior to services at the church.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church In Morgan, with burial in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Morgan.
She was born March 2, 1908, in Sherman Township, Redwood County, to John and Josephine (Schuveiller) Poncin.

Steven Kramer, 55, of Austin, Texas, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, August 15th at Seton Hospital in Austin, TX, after a courageous eight month battle with cancer. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations will follow at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Steven C. Kramer, the son of the late Clayton and Adell Kramer, was born February 19, 1948 in New Ulm where he attended public schools. As a teenager, Steve was very involved in Boy Scouts. He was a scouting Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow Camping Society, and at age 15 he achieved his Eagle Scout Award. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1966. Steve married Bonnie Plagge on December 14, 1968 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. He earned his college degree from Mankato State University in 1971. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1973. Steve began teaching in Iowa at Ellsworth Community College where he taught for 17 years. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa, serving on the church council. He later became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas. In 1991, Steve moved his family from Iowa to Austin, TX where he worked as an administrator and teacher at Austin Community College. He was also a member and officer of the Texas Association of Schools of Art, where he represented his school at their annual conferences.
Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Austin, TX; daughter, Amy Baue and her husband Paul, granddaughters, Shyla and Savannah, of St. Charles, MO; daughter, Stephanie Kramer; son, Joshua Kramer, of Austin, TX; sisters, Jean Fischer and her husband Joel of New Ulm, Deb Wenninger and friend Mitch Fiskness of Sauk Centre; sisters-in-law, Diane Kenow and her husband Jack of Faribault, Debbie Johnson and her husband Don of Delavan, WI, Sheilah Sharon and her husband Jim of Austin, TX; brother-in-law, Wayne Plagge and his wife Sharon of New Ulm; mother-in-law, Gladys Plagge of New Ulm; aunt, Evelyn Brauch of Good Thunder; cousin, Ejay Brauch and his wife Joann of Eagle Lake; uncle, Randall Kroening of New Ulm; three nieces and seven nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Elmer Plagge.
Memorials are preferred to the Insulin-Free World Foundation or to the donor's choice.

Celia Malecek, 89, of Olivia died on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in Olivia.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Olivia, with burial at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and 9-10:45 a.m. Tuesday, at the Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia
She is survived by her husband, Henry; daughters, Cecelia "Babe" Houdek and Ruth Dyrssen, both of Olivia; son, Leonard of Redwood Falls; step-sisters, Joan Brown of Morton and Sally Pietig of Olivia; step-brothers, DennisTrochlil of LaVista, Neb., and Bennett Trochlil of Minnetonka; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Celia Marle Majecok was born on May 24, 1914 in Bechyn, to Lloyd and Mary (Swoboda) Trochlil.

Dr. Leslie Turner Jacobson WINTHROP -- Dr. Leslie Turner Jacobson, D.V.M., 84, formerly of Winthrop, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery with full military honors by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:-8 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to the service time at Zion Lutheran Church.
Arrangements are handled by Dalin-Hantge Chapel.
Leslie is survived by his wife, Helen B. Jacobson of Winthrop; sister, Helen Richardson and her husband Dr. Robert of Bloomington, Minn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leslie H. Spiering and his wife Bonnie of Rogers, AR and Ruby Gustafson and her husband, Donald of Redwood Falls, MN; and a number of nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, J. Alton Jacobson, DVM.
Leslie Turner Jacobson, D.V.M. was born on Nov. 9, 1918, in Winthrop, Minn., to Dr. Jacob and Alma (Soderberg) Jacobson. Leslie graduated from the Winthrop High School in 1936. He continued his education by attending Gustavus Adolphus College, the University of Minnesota, and Iowa State University, where he graduated from the school of Veterinary Medicine in 1950. Leslie served in the United States Army from October 17, 1941, to December 21 1944.
Leslie was united in marriage with Helen Spiering on June 19, 1954, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Leslie began his veterinary practice in Winthrop in 1950. He served many in the area until his retirement in October of 1983. After retirement, the couple continued residing in Winthrop.
Leslie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop, since 1960. He served on the Finance Board and on the Centennial Committee. He was a former member of the First Lutheran Church in Winthrop, where he served on the Church Council, the Centennial Committee, the Historical Committee, the Library Committee, and as Treasurer on the Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, a member of the Winthrop American Legion Post 314 for 57 years. He was a board member of the Minnesota Humane Society for 28 years from 1955-1983, a life member of the MInnesota Veterinary Medical Association, life member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a board member of the Minnesota Veterinary Historical Museum at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. He served as the mayor of Winthrop in 1965, and in that same year was one of the founders of the Winthrop Nursing Home.
Leslie had been a resident at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson Since April 18, 2003.

Melvin Meyer, 83, of Hutchinson, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, with burial in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson. Military honors will by provided by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 - 9 a.m Thursday at Dobratz-Hantge Downton Chapel in Hutchinson, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Thursday.

Jerome Moody, 62, of Lamberton, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 22, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton, with burial in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton. Military honors will be provided by Andrew Peterson of American Legion Post 41.
Jerry is survived by his wife Jane Moody of Lamberton; sons, Brent Moody of Fulda, and Kurt Moody of St. Cloud; three grandchildren; brother Doug Moody, Sr. of Wichita, Kan.; and sister Diane Martin of Wichita, Kan.
Jerome "Jerry" Roger Moody was born May 30, 1941, in Charlestown Township, Redwood County, to Leonard and Helen (Gremmert) Moody. He was a Vietnam era veteran of the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Alaska.

Charles A. 'Chuck' Portner, 60, of rural New Ulm died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both Wednesday at the funeral home.
Chuck is survived by his wife Audrey; daughters and sons-in-law, Nicole and Carter Ness of Big Lake, and Tanya and Glenn Gleisner of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Jenny Portner of Mankato, Joel and Stacie Portner of Hutchinson, and Brian and Sara Portner of Burnsville; grandchildren, Josh, Justin and Jacob Portner, Austin, Jordan and Mason Portner, Resha Portner, and Erin and Amber Gleisner; mother-in-law Caroline Brau of Redwood Falls; sister and brother-in-law Alice and Jerry Denn of New Ulm; and a brother and sister-in-law Delmar and Mary Ann Portner of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his father-in-law Otto Brau.
Chuck was born Jan. 24, 1943, in Sigel Township, Brown County, to Charles G. and Veronica W. (Seidl) Portner. He married Audrey Brau on Aug. 10, 1965, at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County. In 1986 he worked for Sanborn Manufacturing in Sanborn and then for Hewitt Machine and Manufacturing in Nicollet for the past six years. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the St. John's Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a member of the Sigel Athletic Association.
Chuck enjoyed camping, deer hunting, fishing, time with his family, visiting, card playing, and most of all, he loved being with his grandchildren.

Janet L. Adams, 42, of Butterfield, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.
Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Community Bible Church of Butterfield.
Burial will be at a future date in a cemetery in rural Freedom, Minn.
Arrangements are handled by Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.

Blondina E. Fehlauer, 88, of Rochester and formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at Resurrection Evangelical Lutheran in Rochester.
Burial is 3 p.m., Saturday in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester.
She is survived by daughters, Elaine Geisser of Rochester, Sandra Kirkpatrick of Ann Arbor, Mich.; son Bruce Fehlauer of Reedsburg, Wis.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brothers, Marvin Damlo of Perham, and Walt Damlo of Detroit Lakes.
She was born Jan. 3, 1915, near Perham, Minn.

Cleo K. (Wallin) Olsen, 91, of Sleepy Eye, died on Monday, Aug.18, 2003, at her home.
Service is 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Evan with burial in Prairieville Cemetery.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m., Saturday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Jacob of Cincinnati, Ohio; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; sister Mercedes Borseth of Windom; and brothers, Dick Robinson of Windom and Marion Nikoley of Owatonna.
She was born on Sept. 21, 1911, in Comfrey, to Ivar and Margaret (Baier) Wallin.

Patricia (Pati Rubie) Hassenstab, 47, of Wabasso, died Thursday, August 21, 2003, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato.
Services will be 2 p.m. today (Saturday, Aug. 23), at Bethany Lutheran Church, Wabasso, with the Rev. Dennis Brech officiating.
Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls is handling arrangements.
Patricia Lynn Hassenstab was born December 10, 1955 in Lake City, Minnesota to James and Gertrude (Anderson) Dose. She was baptized in January 1956 and confirmed on May 24, 1970 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha, Minnesota. She attended Wabasha Public School and graduated in 1974. Pati attended Martin Luther College and lived in New Ulm. She married and raised three children; Lynn, Christina and, Melissa. She moved to Redwood Falls in 1999 to work for Artesyn. For the past two years she worked for Western Community Action as the mealsite coordinator at Wabasso, and served as a guardian for Redwood County Human Services, which she enjoyed very much.
Patricia married Frank Hassenstab on August 19, 2003, at Immanuel St. Joseph Hospital. She was active with 4-H, ladies bowling leagues, New Beginnings Support Group, and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Wabasso. She enjoyed camping, gardening, antiques, and collecting chickens.
Patricia Lynn Hassenstab died on August 21, 2003 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota at the age of 47 years 8 months and 10 days.
She is survived by her husband Frank of Wabasso, mother Gertrude Dose of Lake City; children: Lynn (Alan) Clennon of North Mankato, Christina Rubie of Mankato, Melissa Rubie of Helena, MT; grandchildren, Rachel and Ellie Clennon and Treyton and Devyn Rubie; sister, Debra Swanson of Rochester and brothers, Robert Dose of Lake City, and Brian Dose of New Ulm. Also survived by special friends Lauren Hoffmann of New Ulm, and Connie Juenemann of Clements.
She was preceded in death by her father, James.

Reuben Bluhm, 82, of Morgan, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003 at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Morgan and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by a sister, Lois Rieke of Morgan; nieces and nephews.
He was born March 24, 1921 to Edward and Lena (Wellnitz) Bluhm on the home farm in Sherman Township, Redwood County.

Gladys M. Gooderum, 73, of Morton, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at Wood Dale Nursing Home in Redwood Falls.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Morton, with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Morton.
Visitation is 5 - 7:30 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
She was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Henryville Township, Renville County, to Henry and Anne (Stadther) Benesh.
