Loren 'Pete' Bode, 77, of 1204 North Jefferson Street in New Ulm, died Thursday, September 4, 2003 at Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2003 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Pastor Donald Sutton will officiate.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for 1 hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Loren is survived by his wife, Lois Bode of New Ulm; daughter, Bonnie and husband Ron Enter of Buffalo; son, Troy Bode and wife Rachel of New Ulm; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; 6 stepchildren; 15 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Dewey of Ogden, Utah and Dorothy Monahan of Cincinnati, Ohio; mother-in-law, Veronica Zieske, a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Bode of Mankato, and sister-in-law, Ellen Bode of the Grandview Good Samaritan Center in St. Peter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, June Bode on August 7, 1971; a son, Tom Bode on December 25, 2000; sister, Luella Bode; brother, Clifford Bode; brothers-in-law, Richard Monahan, and Eldon Dewey.
Walter was born on August 24, 1926 in Courtland Township, Nicollet County to Walter and Barbara (Pfaff) Bode. He was a graduate of Nicollet High School. On September 29, 1949 he married June Zieske. After marriage they farmed in Courtland Township, Nicollet County. On April 7, 1973 he married Lois Herlick Hulke and moved to New Ulm. He worked for Courtland Concrete Products in Courtland. Walter was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Charles Bernard Peterson, 87, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Thursday, September 04, 2003 at his home.
He was born September 10, 1915 in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, the son of Charley and Mary (Dutton) Peterson. Charles graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1933. He began a life-long career in the dairy industry, first at the creamery in Blooming Prairie and later as a buttermaker in Racine, MN and Merton Township. In 1936, he married Ramah Borchert. He entered the Air Force in 1943. While in service he flew 28 missions with a carpetbagger squadron in the mighty 8th Air Force. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Bronze Star for locating an enemy convoy and once flew General Patton into the North African campaign. After the War, he moved with his family to Owatonna working for Bordens as a field inspector, later moving to Clarkfield as manager of the Grudem Company milk processing plant. He also worked in New Ulm for Associated Milk Producers Inc., retiring in 1980. He and Ramah moved to Owatonna in 1987, where he has resided until his death.
Charles was active in the local Elks, American Legion, VFW, and Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, baseball, and golf. In 1939 he was a member of the Owatonna Aces State Baseball Champion team. He was inducted into the Owatonna Bowling Hall of Fame. Music was a large part of his life. He enjoyed playing the piano and going to coffee with his buddies.
Charles is survived by a son, Charles (Marjorie) Peterson, Plymouth, MN; daughter, Rosalie (Jim) Peterson, Des Moines, IA; grandson, Bob (Kayla) Peterson, West Des Moines, IA; granddaughters, Jennifer (Peter Berridge) Peterson, Mound, MN, Margaret Peterson, Plymouth, MN, Lori (Jim) Erickson, Urbandale, IA, Jill Peterson, Des Moines, IA, Kari (Don) Pittman, Louisville, KY; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Howard Peterson, Merle Peterson, Stewart Peterson; sister, Shirley Kubat.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ramah, father Charley Peterson, mother Mary Dutton, and brother Gerald Peterson.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna on Monday, September 8, 2003, from 12-1:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the church, the Reverend Louisa Fure of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Blooming Prairie Cemetery in Blooming Prairie. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church of Owatonna.

Olga Bucholz, 88, of Fairfax, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Buffalo Lake Health Care Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Wednesday.
Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.

Ella Gaulke, age 95, of Hutchinson, died Sept. 3, 2003, at the Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Hughes Funeral Home in Stewart, with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Buffalo Lake.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Ella Minnie Anna Gaulke was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Buffulo Lake, to Albert and Lena (Mority) Gaulke.

Amelia "Mollie" Bauermeister, 100, of New Ulm, died Saturday, Sept, 6, 2003 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Amelia Rose Bauermeister, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Janni) Macho, was born September 3, 1903 in New Ulm. Molly married Bernard Bauermeister in April of 1922 in New Ulm. They owned the historic New Ulm Popcorn Wagon for 30 years. Following her husband's death in 1970, Molly continued to make her home in New Ulm. She became a resident of the former Highland Manor Nursing Home in 1991.
Survivors include her daughters, Arlene Woratschka and her husband Norbert of New Ulm, Myra Meyer and her husband Sam of New Ulm; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Macho, brother, Theodore Macho, and son-in-law, Glenn Wichmann.

Robert A. Pfarr, 76, of Nisswa, formerly of Mankato, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Mankato.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, Mankato, and will continue one hour before services at the church. A prayer service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Pfarr was born Dec. 2, 1926 to Otto and Hazel (Gardner) Pfarr in Detroit, Mich. He was in the U.S. Army during WW II, serving in the Pacific theater. He married Doris Rotering April 20, 1948 at St. John's Catholic Church in Searles. Mr. Pfarr worked many years at Kato Engineering retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa, V.F.W. Post 950 in Mankato and the American Legion in Nisswa.
He is survived by two daughters and their husbands; Judy and Glenn Oscarson of Nisswa and Joy and Duane Woitas of Pemberton; one son Ronald Pfarr of St. Peter; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris in 1989 and one granddaughter, Tina Woitas.

Olga Bucholz, 88 of Fairfax, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at 10 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Wednesday. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Olga Charlotte Bertha (Hopp) Buchholz was born Sept. 27, 1914, in Redwood County to Anton and Olga (Steinhaus) Hopp, Sr.

Francis J. Machtemes, age 83 of Franklin, passed away Friday, September 5, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at 10:30 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Birch Cooley Township, Renville County. Military rites will be conducted by the Franklin Honor Guard.
Visitation will be today from 4 - 8 p.m. and Tuesday, from 8 - 10:30 a.m., at the church, in Franklin. There will be a parish prayer service Monday night at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Francis Julian Machtemes was born October 4, 1919, in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Hagele) Machtemes.
Francis entered the US Army on February 14, 1942 and served his country during WWII. He fought and was injured in the Battle of the Bulge. After a 6-month hospitalization, he served in the occupational army until he received an honorable discharge on December 27, 1945.
Francis was united in marriage with Arlene B. Weiss on May 29, 1946, in Sleepy Eye. The couple shared 57 years of marriage.
Francis and Arlene farmed in various locations before settling in Birch Cooley Township. Francis also raised mink and did taxidermy work. The couple moved into Franklin in 1984.
Francis was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Franklin. He was also a long time member of the Franklin Legion Post #4308, a life member of the DAV Chapter #15 in New Ulm, he was a charter member of the Waconia VFW Post and later transferred his membership to the Morgan VFW. He served as commander for both the Legion and VFW, in the past. He also was a member of the Farmers Union, the Farm Bureau, he was past chairman of the Grange and was past chairman of the PTA.
Francis loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, any outdoor activity and playing cards.
Francis was preceded in death by his, parents, Charles and Elizabeth Machtemes; son, Gregory Machtemes on October 31, 1986; brother, Norman Machtemes; brothers-in-law, Myron Segner, Eugene Smasal and James Hacker and sister-in-law, Dolores Machtemes.
Francis is survived by his wife, Arlene Machtemes of Franklin; a daughter, Kathleen Nosbush and her husband, Paul of Chaska; sons, Anthony Machtemes of Franklin, Mark Machtemes and his wife, Pamela of Red Wing, and Pat Machtemes and his wife, Kathryn of Glencoe; a former daughter-in-law, Julie Machtemes of Sartell; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Nosbush, Stacy Nosbush, Chris Nosbush, Torry Machtemes and his wife, Raquel, Lacey Bien and her husband, Jeremiah, Nealy Machtemes, Allison Machtemes, Abbey Machtemes, Kamryn Machtemes and Alexandra Machtemes; three great-grandchildren, Alissa Bien, Xerxes Machtemes and Jocelyn Machtemes; a brother, Charles Machtemes of Waconia; sisters, Agatha Henk and her husband, Melvin of St. Paul, and Patricia Segner of Whitefish, MT; sisters-in-law, Odral Machtemes of St. Paul, Bernice Seifert and her husband, Lewis of Morgan, and Leona Hacker of New Ulm, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marlyce Tews, 71, of 2014 South Broadway in New Ulm died Saturday, September 6, 2003 at her home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Marlyce is survived by her daughters, Faith Johnson and her husband, Richard of Mankato, Carmen Williams of New Ulm, Dawn Tews and her special friend, Randy Weber of Wells; son-in-law, David Roiger of Clear Lake; sons, Lowell Tews and his wife, Cynthia of Minneapolis, Craig Tews of New Ulm, Jonathan Tews and his wife, Patricia of New Ulm; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brothers, Gerald Compart and his wife, Janette and Kenneth Compart all of Nicollet; sisters-in-law, Arline Compart of Gaylord, Linda Wieland and her husband, Norman of New Ulm, Phyllis Cardenuto of New Ulm; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Tews and his wife, Chiyo of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lowell Tews on July 23, 1998; son, Nathan Tews on June 28, 1998; daughter, Twila Roiger on Janaury 4, 2000; and a brother, Howard Compart.
She was born on March 10, 1932 in Granby Township, Nicollet County to Arthur and Elsie (Enter) Compart. She married Lowell Tews on July 7, 1951 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet. After marriage they lived in New Ulm. She was a homemaker, cake decorator, floral arranger and had worked in the fabric department at the Ben Franklin store in New Ulm. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, the Altar Society at Church and was a member of Alanon.

C. Edgar Anderson, 93, of St. James, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at his home.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Augustana Lutheran Church, St. James with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Sturm Funeral Home in St. James is handling arrangements.

Glendale W. Nielsen, 86, of Springfield, died on Monday, September 8, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Visitation will be at Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
Visitation will also continue from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Springfield.
Service will be held at United Methodist Church in Springfield on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. The Clergy will be Pastor Elaine Foote-Blum, Chaplain Mary Pauluk, and Pastor Betty Weidert. Interment will be at Brookville Dannebod Cemetery rural Sleepy Eye.
Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
Glendale Waldo Nielsen was born June 29, 1917, the son of Rudolph and Kate (Petersen) Nielsen in Brookville Township. He attended school in Morgan, after which he farmed in Brookville Township. On August 10, 1940, he married Elva Ella Zaske at the Zaske farm home in Eden Township. Elva and Glendale continued to farm in Brookville Township until moving into Springfield in 1969. For 31 years Glendale drove for the Springfield Bus Services, retiring at the age of 74. For a period of 14 years, Glendale also worked as a custodian at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. Originally a member of the Morgan United Methodist Church he has also been a long time member of the Springfield United Methodist Church. Glendale enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, yard work, fishing, reading, serving on various church committees and visiting with the children while serving as their bus driver.
Glendale died on Monday, September 8, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, at the age of 86 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elva of Springfield; a daughter, Karen Nau of Prior Lake; a son, Calvin and his wife Carmen of Bloomington; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Irma Zaske of Morgan; and a niece, Rev. Betty Weidert of Lake City, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Moriah Nielsen.

Allan Pettingill, 87, of 1416 South German Street in New Ulm died Sunday, September 7, 2003 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in New Ulm with Rev. Robert Fuller officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Arrangements were handled by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Allan is survived by his wife, Laura Pettingill, of New Ulm; a daughter, Coral Bowen of Clear Lake, Wisconsin; a son, Wayne Pettingill and his wife, Melissa, of New Ulm; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Perry Pettingill and his wife, Eva, and Owen Pettingill and his wife, Eunice.
Allan Jordan Pettingill, the son of Everett and Ethelwyn (Grundy) Pettingill was born on November 8, 1915 in Webster Groves, Missouri. He graduated from the Webster Groves High School, attended night school in Minneapolis, and attended the Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Minneapolis. Allan served his country from 1941 to 1945 in the United States Army. On August 1, 1947 he was united in marriage with Laura Weld in Minneapolis. He served as pastor of the White Oak Baptist Church in Akeley, then at Calvary Baptist Church in Beulah, ND, the Faith Baptist Church in Hinkley and then as Pastor at the First Baptist Church in Adrian.
He retired in 1969 and moved to New Ulm. For the past 15 years Allan and his wife, Laura, have been leading devotions at Highland Manor Nursing Home and the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Ulm since 1969.

Dennis Schuette, 56 of Round Grove Township, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at the Glencoe Regional Health Services.
ervice will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Penn Township, with burial in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and 8-9 a.m. Thursday at the Hantge Funeral Chapel in Brownton and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Mova Trullinger, 70, of Madelia, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at the Fairmont Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford Trullinger of Madelia; sons, Lloyd Trullinger of New Ulm and James Trullinger of Brenham, Texas; a brother, Larry Hinz of Fairmont; sisters, Arlene Smith of Fairmont and Marilyn Anderson of Truman; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was born Oct. 13, 1932, to Reynold and Laura (Payman) Hinz.

Clifford O. Rasmussen, 85, of rural St. Peter, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at the St. Peter Funeral Home-Klein Chapel, with burial at the Kasota Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. today at one hour prior to service Thursday at the St. Peter Funeral Home.
Clifford is survived by his son Bill Rasmussen of St. Peter.
Clifford was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Oshkosh, Wis., to Hans and Daisy (Hansen) Rasmussen. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in England as a tail gunner aboard a B-17 bomber and served a full tour duty of 35 missions.

Ella Ellanson, 87, of Hanska, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, with Rev. Marcia Hegna officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. today at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Ella Enita Ellanson, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Ahlness) Lee, was born Aug. 30, 1916, in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County. She attended country school and Hanska High School, graduating in 1934. Ella was united in marriage to Ethelbert "Bert" Ellanson Feb. 4, 1935, at the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church parsonage. After their marriage, they farmed in Linden Township. For many years, Ella owned and operated the Village Inn café in Hanska. She also worked part time for various Hanska and Madelia businesses throughout the years, in addition to raising her family. Following her husband's death on June 8, 2000, Ella continued to make her home in Hanska. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska.
Survivors include daughters, Ethel Miller and her husband Don of Savage, Garnett Anderson and her husband Warren of Minneapolis, and Suzanne Holland of Mankato; son Walter "Spud" Ellanson and his wife Katherine of New Ulm; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Phillip Ellanson of Hanska, and Duane Ellanson and his wife Leatrice of New Ulm; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Ella was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dennis Holland; two great-grandchildren, Cory Anderson and Mara Wetzel; brothers, Clifford Lee, Lawrence Lee, and Millard Lee; and sisters Alma Anderson and Alice Evenson.
