Loretta Richter, 91, of 310 North Garden in New Ulm died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at the Gil Mor Manor in Morgan.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2003 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with Pastor Thomas Henning officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Loretta is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Molly Richter of Mountain Ridge, Nevada; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Mae Tanley of New Ulm; and a brother, "Blackie" Brueske of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alex H. Richter on April 21, 1990; a son, Alex C. Richter, Jr. in 1993; and brothers and sisters.
She was born on September 29, 1911 in Wanda to Herman and Bertha (Magers) Brueske. She married Alex H. Richter on October 2, 1929 at the St. Paul's Parsonage in New Ulm. After marriage she worked for Stork Brothers and the Wear Well Garment Factory in New Ulm. She was a life time member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.

Marina H. Brau, 84, formerly of Lucan and Wabasso, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the Minneota Manor.
Services are 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the church.
Redwood Valley Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, handled arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Mary Ann Portner of New Ulm, Darlene LeGare of Minneota; sons, Larry Brau of Brainerd, Dale Brau of Lucan, LeRoy Brau of Redwood Falls; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchildren; sister, Rose Ann Sprenger of New Ulm; brothers, Cletus Frericks of Cass Lake, Harry Frericks of Wabasso, and Marv Frericks of New Ulm.
She was born July 7, 1919, in Arcadia, Iowa to John and Elizabeth (Leiting) Frericks.

Sylvester A. Franta, 92, formerly of New Ulm died Saturday, September 20, 2003, at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Samuel Perez and Father James Moran celebrating the mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Tuesday and 7:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Benedict Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 5:45 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 6:45 p.m. both Tuesday at the funeral home.
Sylvester is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Colleen and Patrick Kretsch of rural New Ulm, Shirleen and Jerry Gulden of North Mankato; grandchildren, Brian Kretsch and his wife, Jenifer of Gibbon, Patrice Dittrich and her husband, David of New Ulm, Mark Gulden and his wife, Sheryl of North Mankato, Michelle Gulden of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Tony, Katie, Jessica, Samantha, P. Hunter, Ellie, Liza, Abby and Danielle; and a brother, Fremont Franta of Winthrop.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine Franta on May 14, 1996; brothers, Roman Franta and Herbert Franta; and a sister, Irene Seitz.
He was born on February 14, 1911, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph and Maria (Smasal) Franta. He married Catherine Fink on April 16, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they owned and operated Franta Feed Grinding for 29 years. He was owner and operator of a can milk route for the Klossner Co-op Creamery for many years. He worked for 3M in New Ulm for eight years and also worked at Aufderheide Brick & Tile Yard in New Ulm, Del Monte in Sleepy Eye and then at Hands Inc. in Winthrop. He retired in 1994. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and was a 75-year member of the St. Benedict Court #1018, Catholic Order of Foresters of St. George.

Pastor Gregor Kutz, 100, of 916 North Minnesota Street in New Ulm, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with Pastor Hank Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldiers Rest Section. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Wednesday and from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Pastor Kutz in survived by daughters, Ruth Kutz, and Dorothy Turnblad and her husband, Randy, all of New Ulm; grandchildren, William, LuCinda, Brian, Robert, and Leah; fifteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bertha, on May 7, 1996; a son, Frederick, in infancy; a grandson, James; a great-great-granddaughter, Kari; brothers, Carl, Walter, Herman, Albert, and Alfred; and sisters, Helen and Tillie.
Gregor William Kutz, the son of Herman and Tillie (Plaster) Kutz was born on March 12, 1903, in Stillwater. He married Bertha Wilkie on April 15, 1931, in St. Charles, Missouri. He had served as a chaplin in the United States Army serving during WWII. He was then discharged to inactive duty and was re-activated during the Korean War. Pastor and his family lived in various states throughout his life while serving as a minister for over seventy years with the United Church of Christ. They moved to New Ulm to be near his daughter and her husband in 1981. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in New Ulm.

Chad Michael Schmidt, 32, of Redwood Falls, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003.
Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, at Redwood Valley Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continues one hour before the service Thursday at the church.
He is survived by parents, Jim and Kay Schmidt of Redwood Falls, brother Jason Schmidt of Clements; and sister Melissa Hoppke of Redwood Falls.
He was born Oct. 8, 1970, in Redwood Falls, to Jim and Kay (Schiller) Schmidt.

Cecelia A. Walter, 93, of Sleepy Eye and formerly of Clements, died Sunday, Sept.21, 2003 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clement with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield, and will continue one hour before the service Wednesday, at the church.
She is survived by sons, Nicholas Walter, Jr. of Clements, Leonard Walter of Clements, Andrew Walter of New Ulm, Michael Walter of Horace, N.D.; daughters, Dorothy Huiras of Sleepy Eye, Arlene Huschke of Mankato; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe Guetter of Wabasso, Aloysius Guetter of Wabasso, Alphonse Guetter of Wabasso; sisters, Catherine Tingelhoff of West Point, Nebr., and Theresa Fischer of Wabasso.
She was born May 11, 1910, in Wabasso, Minn., to Joseph and Amelia (Hoffmann) Guetter.

Amanda Ruschmeyer, 92, of Gibbon, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Sibley County, with Pastor David Radtke officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Moltke Township, Sibley county. Due to construction at the church, the funeral luncheon will be held after the cemetery service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Amanda is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ervin Ruschmeyer on Jan. 17, 2002; sisters, Esther Seemann and Ann Ruschmeyer; brothers, Dietrich, Alfred, Victor, John and Gerhard Schwecke.
Mandy was born on Sept. 7, 1911, in Moltke Township, Sibley county, to Henry and Anna (Bode) Schwecke. On May 6, 1944, she married Ervin Ruschmeyer at the St. Peter's Parsonage. They lived and farmed the "Home Place" until moving to Gibbon in 1983. They traveled often, including trips to Alaska, Hawaii and Germany. During the winters, they made their home in Mesa, Ariz., for many years. She enjoyed eating out. Amanda was a member of the Sibley County Extension Club and also a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and St. Peter's LWML.

Alice Anderson, 88, of Lamberton, died on Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton, with Pastor Lee Harder officiating. Interment will be at the Lamberton City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Lamberton.
Alice was born April 8, 1915, in Redwood County, the daughter of Dawson and Beryl (Gibson) Anderson. She married Sylvester Anderson on May 23, 1931, in Sibley, Iowa. Alice and Sylvester farmed in the Lamberton area until retiring in 1975. The couple then moved into Lamberton, where Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, reading, sewing and a quiet home life. Alice was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton and was a lifelong resident of the Lamberton area.
Alice is survived by her three daughters, Corinne and husband Clayton Edwards of New Ulm, Louise and husband Al Bous of Long Prairie, and Faye and husband Errol Buterbaugh of Aurora, S.D.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Bishir of Springfield, and Arlene Battaglia of Lacey, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Ardell Coulter of Lamberton, Majora Anderson of Lamberton, and Eunice Anderson of Walnut Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons; and other family members.

Hilda Ankrum, 90, of Stillwater and formerly of Springfield, died Tuesday, Sep. 23, 2003, at Greely Health Care Center in Stillwater.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at Zion Lutheran Church in Springfield, with burial at Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation is 8:30-10:30 a.m., Friday, at the church.
Sturm Funeral Home of Springfield is handling arrangements.
She is survived by son Roger Ankrum of Luck, Wis.; daughter Diane Rode of Hammond, Wis; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Hilda Johanna Ankrum was born Jan. 1, 1913, in Murray County, Minn., to Jacob and Minnie (Brummer) Schori.

Mary Dittmer, 63, of Fairfax, died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at her home.
Memorial services are 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 to 11a.m. on Saturday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Mary is survived by her children, Debra Grams of New Ulm, Robert Dittmer Jr. of Rancho Margarita, Calif., Jeffrey Dittmer of Waxahachie, Texas, Paul Dittmer of New Ulm; and four grandchildren.
She was born June 22, 1940, to Richard and Iona (Hatfield) Dittmer.

Edwin Podratz, 91, of Hutchinson, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with burial in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Saturday, at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in
Hutchinson and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Elvira Podratz of Hutchinson; daughters, Georgia Schulte of Gibbon, Darlene Bahr of Waukesha, Wis., Geraldine Niebuhr of Richfield; nine grandchildren; two steprandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Edwin August Podratz was born on Jan. 19, 1912, in Moltke Township, Sibley County, Minn to John
and Wilhelmina (Goetsch) Podratz.

Karen Kay (Schugel) Marti, 53, of Sleepy Eye, died Thursday, September 25, 2003 at her home in Sleepy Eye.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2003, at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs. The clergy will be Father Todd Petersen. Interment will be at the Marti Family Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye on Sunday, September 28, 2003 from 5 to 7 p.m.; on Monday September 29, 2003 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., and at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs on Monday September 29, 2003 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Karen was born on September 9, 1950 in New Ulm, the daughter of Eugene and Delores (Seifert) Schugel. She grew up and attended school in New, graduating from New Ulm Public High School. Karen married Steve Marti on November 15, 1969 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye. Karen worked in the house keeping department for the New Ulm Medical Center and later did day care for four years so she could be home with her two girls. She then worked retail for ten years before returning to the New Ulm Medical Center.
She was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth and taught CCD in Leavenworth and for St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye for 12 years. Karen enjoyed anything to do with sports from watching the "Twinkies" and Vikings to high school volleyball and football. You could usually find Karen gardening, reading and spending many hours with her daughters and husband, and of course Mikey the cocker spaniel and Oreo the purring cat.
Survivors include her husband, Steven Marti of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Angela Marti of Sleepy Eye, and Stacy Jo Marti and fiance Joe Kotten of Sleepy Eye; a granddaughter, Emma Kotten; mother, Delores Schugel of New Ulm, and brothers, Tom and wife Renee Schugel of Maple Grove; Randy and wife Penny Schugel of Fairfax and Jeff and wife Tammy Schugel of Highland Ranch, CO.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her father Eugene in 1984 and infant daughter, Brenda Jean in 1969.

Pauline G. Petersen, 74, of Hardwick, Minn., died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at the Hospice Cottage in Luverne, Minn.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 28, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick, with Rev. Mark Mumme officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Rural Luverne.
Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Engebretson Funeral Home in Luverne, and will resume one hour prior to the services at the church on Sunday.
Hospice of Luverne Community Hospital will plant a tree in Pauline's memory.
Pauline was born Jan. 18, 1929, to Jacob and Emma (Christians) Solma in Ellsworth, Mn. She attended country school near Ellsworth and graduated high school from Pipestone. On Nov. 4, 1947, Pauline was united in marriage to Carl Petersen. The couple farmed east of Hardwick for many years. Carl passed away on March 20, 1985.
Pauline was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick and its ladies circle. She belonged to the Neighbors Club and various card clubs.
Pauline will be lovingly remembered by her sons, LeRoy (Marcia) Petersen of Hillsboro, Mo., Marvin (Janine) Petersen of New Ulm, and Gerald (Lora) Petersen of Fairfield, Ill.; brother, Merle (Paula) Soma of Pipestone; sister Marcella (Darwin) Petersen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Carlee (Sean) Ragains, Shannon Petersen, Justin Petersen, Justin Petersen, Joshua Petersen, Eric Petersen, and Renée Petersen; several nieces, nephews, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; parents, and brother, Elmer Soma.

Herbert Jahnke, 91, of Hector, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at Olivia Healthcare Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hughes Funeral Home, Hector and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Kathleen Mosser, 80 of Madelia, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at her home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia.
Survivors include her husband Bob; daughters, Theresa Knudtson, Elaine Rand of Madelia and Linda Gustafson of Hanska; sons, Pat of Madelia, Robert of St. James and Dennis of New Ulm; 18 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
She was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Madelia to Pat and Kathleen (McMorrow) Tierney.

Norman John Braun, 85, of Sleepy Eye, died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Services will be 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Braun of Sleepy Eye; sons, Steve Braun of Tempe, Ariz., and Mike Braun of Sleepy Eye, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchilden, sisters, Mabel Haala of Sleepy Eye, Delores Kortz of Fairfax, Florence Helget of Sleepy Eye, and Kathy Olson of Fairfax.
Norman was born on June 21, 1918 in New Ulm to George G. and Wilhelminia (Manderfeld) Braun. Norman served in the United States Army for three years during WWII.

Ann Meidl, 71 of 513 North Payne Street in New Ulm died Saturday, September 27, 2003 at her home.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Tuesday.
Ann is survived by her husband, Hugo Meidl of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Karl Horner, and Lisa and Jeremy Kral, all of New Ulm; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Juyun Walden of Orlando, Florida, Matt and Jody Meidl, David Meidl, Tim Meidl and special friend, Kari Apitz, all of New Ulm; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Faye May of Lufkin, Texas, Ruby and Gordon Hext of Woodville, Texas; brothers and sister-in-law, ME Reider of Hemphill, Texas and RQ and Dottie Reider of Woodville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Claudia Brinkley; and by brothers, Deugah Reider and Lonnie Floyd "Sonny" Reider.
Ann was born June 26, 1932 in Nacodoches, Texas to Lonnie F. and Cora E. (Slay) Reider. She married Hugo Meidl on March 22, 1962 in Kasota. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where she worked for Union Hospital, New Ulm Telephone Company, Danheim's Dairy, and then at AMPI for 15 years before retiring. After retiring she worked for several antique stores, Heritage Antiques, United Prairie Antiques and the Antique Haus. She then was part owner of Antiques Plus and then owner of Grannie Annie's Alley Antiques. She was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church, New Ulm Women's Bowling Association and a card club.

NEW ULM -- Valeria Reinhart, 92, of New Ulm, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Father Edward Ardolf will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm. A parish prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Valeria Victoria Lamecker, the daughter of Franz and Katharine (Sackl) Lamecker, was born March 11, 1911 in New Ulm. After graduating from Cathedral High School, she earned two years of teacher's training and taught in country schools in Brown County for several years. She was united in marriage to Albert Reinhart May 27, 1940 at the Church of Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Together, they farmed near Courtland for several years. Her husband died in 1995. Valeria was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. She loved gardening and collecting cookbooks.
Survivors include her son, Arnold Reinhart of New Ulm; sisters-in-law, Loretta Scheid of Fairfax, Tudy Dangers of New Ulm; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Reinhart, Rose Schaefer, Ella Weidel; and three brothers, Alfred, Frank, and Arthur Lamecker.
