Duane "Dewey" Alan Higdem, 55, of Minneapolis, passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003.
Visitation and memorial service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Cremation Society, 4300 Nicollet Ave. S., Minneapolis. Interment will be Thursday, Oct. 2, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Minneapolis.
He was born Sept. 23, 1948, in McIntosh, Minn.
He is survived by his mother, Sylvania Liebl of New Ulm, a brother, Paul (Janelle) of Willmar; sisters, Lori (Joe) Dietz and Vicki Higdem of New Ulm; a step-brother, Ted (Darlene) of New Ulm; step-sisters, Joan Liebl of Shakopee, Doris (Doug) Schmiesing of New Ulm and Major Audry (Bob) Ellingson of San Antonio, Texas; nephews, Andy and Adam Dietz of New Ulm, David Higdem Jr. of St. Paul; nieces, Ashley Dietz and Tamarra (Dan) O'Hearn of New Ulm and Kirsten and Kari Higdem of Willmar.
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Arnold, in 1961; his brother, David, in 1980; his step-father, Richard Liebl, in 2003, and step-brother, Arnold Liebl in 1992.

Dolores M. Seifert, 91, formerly of rural Sleepy Eye, died on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at the Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, with Father Brian Oestreich officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 12 - 1 p.m. today at the Divine Providence Home Chapel in Sleepy Eye, and will continue 4 - 8 p.m. today and on 7:30 - 10 a.m. Thursday at the former Minnesota Valley Funeral Home location, 521 West Main St., in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Dolores is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Viola and Dennis Leff of Onamia, Teresa and Jim Wenisch of Lamberton, Monica and Larry Clayton of Colorado Springs, Colo., Marie and Gary Hoffmann of Worthington, and Martha and Richard Andersen of Albert Lea; sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Janice Seifert and Lewis and Arlene Seifert, all of New Ulm, Lowell and Mary Ann Seifert, Gerald Seifert and Dee, and Michael and Linda Seifert, all of Sleepy Eye; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Martha Schneider, a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm; and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Arthur on May 18, 1988; a son in infancy; a grandson; a great grandson in infancy; and by 12 brothers and sisters.
Dolores was known in the area for being the mother of the Seifert Quads, Monica, Marie, Martha, and Michael. These were the first set of quads born in Minnesota.
Dolores was born on Sept. 3, 1912, in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, to Mathias and Anna (Schiltz) Ludewig. She attended country school in Leavenworth Township, Brown County. On Sept. 22, 1931, she was united in marriage to Arthur Seifert in Leavenworth. After marriage they farmed in Stark Township, Brown County, until retirement. After retirement they continued to live on the farm.
Dolores became a resident of the Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye, on June 4, 1997. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, and a member of the National Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, watching baseball and softball games, and spending time with her family.

Bernard Pershing Hartman, 88, of St. James, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato.
Service is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m., Friday, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and continues one hour before the service Saturday at the church.

Arnold Goetsch, 89, of Gaylord, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Monday, Oct. 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Mountville, rural Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday, and 7:30-8:30 a.m., Monday, at Egesdal Funeral Home; and continues one hour before the service at the church.
He is survived by wife Elvera Goetsch of Gaylord; stepsons, Robert Bremer of Chapel Hill, N.C., Gerald Bremer of Fort Collins, Colo.; stepdaughter Marcia Bremer of Alexandria; brother Delford Goetsch of Gaylord;, sister Rosie Timm of Alexandria; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was born Jan. 29, 1914, to Albert and Ida (Schauer) Goetsch.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific.

Elvin Uecker, 70, of Gaylord, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services are 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday and 7:30 a.m. to noon, Monday, at Egesdal Funeral Home; and continues one hour before the service at the church.
He is survived by wife Dianne Uecker of Gaylord; sons, Scott Uecker of Gaylord, Randy Uecker of Gaylord; daughter Julie Marshall of Chaska; seven grandchildren; and brother Ralph Uecker of Hutchinson.
He was born Nov. 7, 1932, to Louis and Laura (Meyer) Uecker.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korea War in Korea.

Sylvester J. Zwach, 83, of Palm Springs, Calif., and formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Samuel Perez celebrating the mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, and from 7:30-9:30 a.m., Saturday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Society and the Knights of Columbus will pray the rosary at 6 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. both Friday at the funeral home.
Sylvester is survived by his wife, Beverly Zwach of Palm Springs, California; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Richard Wellmann of New Ulm, Joan and Ronald Holm of Dubuque, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Mary Zwach of New Ulm, Lester Zwach, James and Karen Zwach all of rural New Ulm; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Kathy Greenberg and her husband, Charles of Lafayette, Calif.; stepsons, Tim Hayes and James Hayes, both of Salinas, Calif.; several stepgrandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Thecla and Leo Hoffmann of rural New Ulm; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Mary Zwach of Palm Springs, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Marcella Zwach, Amelia Rieger, Agnes Rieger, all of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Cecilia Zwach on Nov. 17, 1995; granddaughter, Holly Zwach; and a brother, Jerome Zwach.
He was born on Nov. 1, 1919, in Cottonwood Township, Brown County, to Anton and Ann (Meidl) Zwach. He married Cecilia Rieger on June 10, 1941 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they ran a dairy farm in Brighton Township, Nicollet County for 33 years. In 1977 they retired from farming and moved into New Ulm. He then worked at 3M in New Ulm for 10 years before retiring. He married Beverly Hayes on July 6, 1996, in Palm Springs, Calif. He volunteered as a host and guide at the Palm Springs Air Museum. He was a past member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and had served as an usher, a member of the St. Patrick's Council 1076 Knights of Columbus, Third and Fourth Degree and the St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council. He was a member of St. Paul's Church of the Desert, the Minnesota Club of Palm Springs, and the Minnesota Gophers Club of Palm Springs.

Clarence Goblirsch, 73, of Comfrey, died on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Nancy's Comfort Care in Kasota, the result of a farm accident earlier this year.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey, with Father Robert Goblirsch officiating. Interment will be at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at 3 - 7 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Monday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey. There will also be a 6 p.m. Prayer Service Sunday at the funeral home.
Clarence was born on April 30, 1930, in Albin Township, Brown County, the son of Albert J. and Elizabeth (Soukup) Goblirsch. He grew up and attended country school in Albin Township. Clarence married Verna Schull on Dec. 2, 1951, at the St. Peter and Paul's Rectory in Mankato. The couple made their home in Mulligan Township, where they lived and farmed for many years. Verna preceded Clarence in death on Feb. 4, 2000.
Clarence was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Comfrey. He enjoyed farming, especially the planting and harvesting.Clarence also enjoyed going to dances and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Vivian and husband Jerome Kostelecky of Little Canada, Shirley and husband Reece Hoelscher of Mankato, Carolyn and husband Joel Darge of St. Peter, Judy and husband Jerry Floyd of San Antonio, Texas, Karen and husband Dean Helget of New Ulm, Sharon and husband Mark Hanson of Hendricks, and Cheryl Gustavson of North Mankato; sons, John and wife Vicki of Fayetteville, N.C., Jeffrey and wife Linda of Rossford, Ohio, David and wife Michelle of Sleepy Eye, Robert and wife Kathy of Sleepy Eye, Douglas and wife Connie
of Ramsey, and Kenneth of Butterfield; daughter-in-law Pauline Goblirsch of Earlton, Fla.; 34 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mariann Treml of Comfrey, Jane Goblirsch of Fairfax, Sylvan Goblirsch of Comfrey, Angela and husband Robert Augustin of Comfrey, Beatrice Pinska of New York, and Stanley and wife Joyce Goblirsch of California; and sister-in-law Emily and husband LaVern Tischer of Cambridge. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Verna; son, Richard; grandson, Christopher; and three sisters.

Burnetta Friederichs, 92, of Gaylord died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her sisters, Rose Lentz of Arlington, RuFena Pribnow of Richfield, and Elizabeth Firstbrook of Bloomington.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington.

Cletus Fuenffinger, 69, of 1021 North Garden St., New Ulm, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Internment will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 at St. Anne's Cemetery in Wabasso.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the time of service, at the church on Saturday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.

Marlin "Marly" Waibel, age 68, of Fairfax, passed away Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Olivia Health Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a, m. Monday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax with interment in the church cemetery. Full military honors by the Fairfax Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with a 5 p.m. prayer service Sunday night at Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Marlin Waibel was born October 14, 1934, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He was the son of Wilbert and Sadie (Heinrich) Waibel. Marlin was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a youth at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, Minnesota. He attended the St. Andrew's Catholic Church School and later graduated from the Fairfax High School in 1952. Marlin served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1958. Marlin was united in marriage to Jean (Johnson) Waibel in Iowa March 23, 1968.
Marlin was a life long resident of Fairfax, Minnesota. He was part owner and operator of Waibel and Schroeder Tiling and Waibel Sand and Gravel. Marlin later worked for Fahey Tiling. He was a retired Fairfax Fireman and served as Fire Chief for many years. He was a member of the Fairfax American Legion and served as past Commander. He loved all sports.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Lea Waibel on May 30, 1987; son, Michael Waibel on April 30, 1990, son, Ryan Waibel on August 17, 1975; brother, Don Waibel; stepfather, Art Schroeder.
Marlin is survived by his wife, Jean Waibel of Fairfax; daughter, Amy Waibel of Hutchinson; son, Scott Waibel and his wife Sara of Fairfax; two grandchildren, Michael and Arissa Waibel; brothers, Gene Schroeder and his wife Kathy of Fairfax, Ken Schroeder and his wife Deb of Clear Lake, Iowa; aunts, Leona Heinrich of Fairfax and Eva Mayer of Winthrop; nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends.

Cletus Fuenffinger, 69, of 1021 N. Garden St. in New Ulm, died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Arrangements are with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
Cletus was born Aug. 31, 1934, in Wabasso, and spent his childhood with his grandparents, Paul and Frances Fuenffinger. Cletus attended St. Anne's Elementary and High School in Wabasso. He graduated from Minnesota State University in Mankato. He also did graduate work at U.W. River Falls, and U.W. Oshkosh, Wis.
Cletus' teaching career began at St. Anne's High School in Wabasso. He coached basketball and baseball while at St. Anne's (1956-1963). He taught at Cathedral High School in New Ulm from 1963 - 1966.
Cletus continued his teaching career in Kenosha, Wis., in the fall of 1966. While there, he developed programs in Aviation-Aerospace, Electronics, and Science-technology for the Kenosha school system. He also served as the department chairperson for several years. Cletus retired from active teaching in 1994.
Cletus enjoyed traveling to various parts of the world and flying as a private pilot to numerous destinations within the United States. He was also a partner in the New Ulm Flight Service for a number of years.
Cletus devoted his life to education. He enjoyed sports both as a coach and a spectator. He also enjoyed building model trains, planes and rockets.
He returned to New Ulm after his retirement. He enjoyed going out to farm and visiting with the neighbors. Cletus enjoyed being with his niece Kiki Polzin, nephew Robert Polzin, Godson Lee Shaver, and Lee's brother Scott Shaver.
Cletus is survived by brothers and sister-in-law, Dale and Clare Polzin, and Larry Polzin; niece Kiki Polzin; and nephew Robert Polzin.

Bonnie Sue Anderson, age 53, of Springfield, died Sunday, October 5, 2003, at Springfield Medical Center Hospital after a four year battle with cancer.
Services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church on Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at 10:30 a.m.
The clergy will be Pastor Carl Seamon. Interment will be Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Springfield City Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Tuesday, from 4:30 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service.
Bonnie was born on April 17, 1950 in Minneapolis, the daughter of William and Alda (Doering) Meyer. She attended and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1968. She graduated from Mankato State University in 1972 with a degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development and taught school in LeRoy-Ostrander and Redwood Falls. Bonnie married Tom Anderson on March 22, 1975 in Springfield. The couple made their home in rural Springfield where she did substitute teaching in Springfield and Sleepy Eye and also was office manager and co-owner of Bois Lake Farms. Bonnie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was the Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday School. She also was a Deacon and President of the church council and a member of the Deborah circle. Bonnie was a leader of the Leavenworth Achievers 4-H group and a Reach for Recovery volunteer. She was also a member of the Springfield American Legion Auxiliary, North Star Home Extension Club and the Minnesota State Cattlewomen's Association.
Survivors include her loving husband Tom Anderson of Springfield; children, Carl Anderson of Springfield, Nick and wife Brenda Anderson of Springfield, and Megan Anderson of LaCrosse, WI; a brother, Bill and wife Marilyn Meyer of Mound; and parents Bill and Alda Meyer of Minneapolis. Bonnie is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sarah E. Sahr, 31 of Waterloo, Iowa, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at her home of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Reformed Church in Waterloo, with burial at 4 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Ulm
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, 1419 West Fourth St., Waterloo.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Sahr, of Waterloo; children, Nathan, Cody, and Patricia at home; her father, Ernest (Chris) Ohland of Hanska; grandparents: Ernest and Esther Ohland of New Ulm; sisters, Tammy Springer of Sauk Rapids, Kimberly Luetke of Keller, Texas, Jill Ohland of Rochester and Rebecca Raster of St. Charles, Mo.; and a brother Jon Ohland of Westland, Mich.
She was born Nov. 22, 1971 in New Ulm to Ernest and Patricia (Forbrook) Ohland.

Bev Belin, 65, of 831 Cottonwood Street in New Ulm, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at her home, surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Roger Raebel officiating. Burial will be Friday, Oct. 10, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 and from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to time of service at the church on Thursday.
Bev is survived by her husband, Harold Belin, of New Ulm; a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Deb and Loren Larson and grandchildren, Justine, Grant, Madelyn and Nathaniel of Stanchfield; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Kelly Belin and grandchildren, Ashleigh, Alec and Jared of Englewood, Colorado; Bob and Kelly Belin and grandchildren, Courtney, Nicole and Jeremy of Littleton, Colorado, Rick and Kristin Belin of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; a brother, Edward D. Burns of Edina; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Bob Blatzheim of Cross Lake;and by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward W. and Rose G. Burns and by sisters Rosemary Thompson and Patricia Geer Marra.
Bev was born Nov. 9, 1937, in Minneapolis to Edward W. and Rose (Schnobrich) Burns. On October 17, 1959, she married Harold Belin in Minneapolis. They started their married life living in Minneapolis where she worked for International Multifoods. From there they went through several transfers including, Le Mars, Iowa; New Ulm, Minnesota; Fremont, Nebraska; Grand Island, Nebraska; Girard, Kansas; Bloomington, Minnesota; and then back to New Ulm, Minnesota in 1983. While in Bloomington she worked for Emergency Physicians Professional Association and while in New Ulm she worked for Berens, Rodenberg & O'Connor, Chtd.
Bev was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, past president of the Fremont Newcomer's Club and the Grand Island Newcomer's Club. She had received an honorary Life Membership in the Nebraska PTA, was past board member of the Grand Island Swim Club and the Bloomington Jefferson Swim Team and band organization. She was past president of the Lind House Association and Crescendo Club in New Ulm, past board member of the United Way and was currently a board member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Bev had made and donated most of the stained glass at Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Lind House. She also did stained glass for many other churches and homes. In August of 2003 Bev was chosen as New Ulm's National Night Out, Neighbor of the Year.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the Redeemer Lutheran Church Debt Retirement Program.

DeVelda C. Burdick, 86, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Maddock, N.D., died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at the Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Bethany Evangelical Free Church, in Maddock, with burial at the Hesper Cemetery in Maddock.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye and at Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Maddock on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m.
She is survived by her daughters, Wanda Rakow of Sleepy Eye and Belinda Poppenhagen of New Ulm; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was born on July 4, 1917, near Esmond, N.D., to Guy William and Mary Jane (McMillen) Freeman.
