Ronald Nelson, 57, of Hanska died Monday, October 6, 2003, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska with Rev. Marcia Hegna officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in Hanska, and one hour prior to service at the church.
Ronald Colin Nelson, the son of Odin and Marie (Odegard) Nelson, was born April 10, 1946, in New Ulm. He was a lifelong Hanska resident, graduating from Hanska High School in 1964. After working for a few years, Ron entered the United States Navy in 1968, serving in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in March 1970, he returned to Hanska. He married Sandra Altwegg on June 20, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska. He worked 33 years at Kemske-Oswald in New Ulm and most recently worked at Westin Auto in St. James. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska and a life member of VFW Post 1648 in New Ulm. Ron loved spending time with family and his many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy of Hanska; daughter, Ruth Frederickson and her husband Keith of Hanska; son, Ron Nelson, Jr. and his fiancee Shelly Bergner of Alexandria; brothers, Clinton Nelson and his wife Darlene, Wayne Nelson and his wife Patricia, of Hanska; Richard Nelson and his friend Arlene Clyne of New Ulm; sister, LaVerne Brandsma and her husband Ken of Kennewick, WA; nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his nephew, Mike Nelson.
Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Beth (Bailey) Hosack, 76, of Sanborn, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Springfield Medical Center Hospital in Springfield.
Friends may call on the family 4 - 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Rope 'n' Spur Ballroom in Sanborn.
Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial will be at Grove Cemetery in Kenton, Ohio at a later date.
Jackie is survived by her husband Charles Hosack of Sanborn; son Les Strahm of Chino Hills, Calif.; daughter Nancy Vigil of Vacaville, Calif.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother Robert Bailey of Kenton, Ohio.
Jackie was born Jan. 6, 1927, to Clifford and Lucille (DeVore) Baily in Kenton Ohio.
Elnor Ubl, 95, of 909 N. Minnesota St. in New Ulm, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mother's Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. today at the Cathedral. There will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. today at the Funeral Home.
Elnor is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Adella Ubl of Brainerd, and Ronald and Renee Ubl of New Ulm; and by two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rudy on March 11, 1975; three sisters; and by seven brothers.
Elnor was born Aug. 14, 1908, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to John and Margaret (Gitter) Kokesch. After marriage they farmed in Leavenworth Township, Brown County, until moving to New Ulm in 1969. Elnor was a homemaker her entire life. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the church choir for many years, and also the Christian Mother's Society.
David Joseph Weber, 49, of Springfield, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. Burial will be at St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday 7:30-10 a.m. Friday at the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service Thursday at the funeral home.
David is survived by his sister Diane Jacobsen of Fairfax.

Imogene 'Jean' Horner, 74, of 1210 North Jefferson St. in New Ulm, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Imogene is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Jeffrey Bechner of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Bonnie and Jerome Tauer of Harrison, Arkansas, and Margaret Horner of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; a son, Thomas Horner of Midwest City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; a sister, Maxine Gaffey of Camarillo, California, and a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Dixie Johnson of Kasota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Florian "Jack" Horner on June 16, 1977; daughter, Mary Horner in infancy; son, John Joseph Horner in infancy; sister, Vivian Johnson in infancy; and brothers, Sherman Johnson and Carroll Johnson.
Jean was born on July 2, 1929, in St. Peter to Joseph and Iva (Turner) Johnson. She attended schools in the St. Peter area. On October 19, 1946, she married Florian "Jack" Horner at the Holy Trinity Parish House in New Ulm and moved to New Ulm. She was an active member of the Christian Mothers Society. She worked as a housekeeper at the Dacotah Hotel and the Loretto Hospital. She was also a member of the Twist and Twirl square-dance club.
She enjoyed embroidery and playing bingo at the Senior center and participated in many activities of the Gluck-N-Spiel club.
Irene Tabbert, 74, of Young America, formerly of New Ulm, was reunited in death on Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, with husband Arthur Tabbert; parents William and Melinda Smith; aunts, uncles, family and friends.
Irene was born May 18, 1929, in New Ulm. She lived in Minneapolis before moving to Young America in 1969. She worked at the Arboretum, volunteered at Waconia Hospital and spent every possible moment she could enjoying her life and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son Michael Tabbert; daughter Susan Stagg; son-in-law Lee Stagg; grandchildren, Ben and Samantha Stagg; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Betty Smith; and family adopted into love, Julie and Bill Crocker, Kelley and Nicole, Bart and Beth Brelje, Justin and Jasmine, the Schroeder family, and many dear and cherished friends.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Young America. Arrangements are with Paul McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood.
Helen Engelhardt, 85, of Mankato, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, Oct. 10th at the Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm, with Fr. Eugene Hackert officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Monday and 7:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Helen Koeck, the daughter of Alvin and Katherine (Byer) Koeck, was born June 23, 1918 in New Ulm where as a child she attended St. Mary's Catholic School. Helen married Malcomb Lonergan in 1967. He died in 1976. She married Edmund Engelhardt in December 1984. He died later that year. She lived most of her adult life in Mankato. She was a member of St. Rita Court #607 and Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou Postel and her husband Howard of New Ulm; son-in-law, Robert Stauffer of Madelia; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Laura Pitka of New Ulm; companion, Joe LeGare of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husbands, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy Stauffer and infant son, Gerald.
Jeremy Carpenter, 24, of Sleepy Eye and formerly of Mt. Iron, died October 9, 2003, in North Memorial Health Care Center, Robbinsdale, MN as the result of injuries sustained in a motorcycles accident. Through his death, Jeremy gave the gift of life as an organ donor. He was born March 13, 1979 in Virginia, the son of Eugene and Valerie (Howg) Carpenter. He graduated from Mt. Iron-Buhl High School in 1997, Mesabi Junior College, and Bemidji State University with a degree in Criminal Justice, in 2001.
Jeremy interned with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Dept, served as an Officer with the Chisholm & Virginia Police Departments and was currently serving as an Officer with the Sleepy Eye Police Department. He started working at age 11 for Vern's Greenhouse, worked for the Mt. Iron Recreation Dept., and was a MN. 1st Responder. He was a Mentor to the developmentally disabled adults and youth of the Virginia area; and was a coach for Special Olympics Ski Team. Jeremy coached many Legion, V.F.W., and Babe Ruth baseball teams, was an umpire, taught Sunday School and volunteered with the Summer Sidewalk Club at church. He lettered in three high school sports and continued to play baseball in college. He was a confirmed member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Mt. Iron, and belonged to the Law Enforcement Labor Services Union Post 195, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, was President of the Criminal Justice Club; and was active with numerous other clubs and organizations in Bemidji. With his outgoing personality, Jeremy touched the lives of all he met, both young and old. His keen sense of fairness led him to a career in Criminal Justice. Jeremy had many interests and hobbies including: Chevrolets, especially Monte Carlos; snowmobiling, motorcycling, shooting pool, camping, snowboarding, and the outdoors; but most of all he had a love of people: especially the elderly and the young. He was blessed with a compassionate and giving heart and was a special friend to many. Jeremy had a deep faith of God and his family was of ultimate importance to him.
He is survived by his parents Eugene and Valerie; brother: Zach, of Mt. Iron; grandmothers: Dorothy Carpenter of Virginia, Vearl Howg of Deer River, and Loretta Eastman of Seattle, WA; great-grandparents: Harold and Inez Isaacs of Rantoul, IL; fiancée: Tina Adams and her daughter: Cambria Carlson; Aunts & Uncles: Susan (Michael) Haavisto, Terry (Debbie) Carpenter, Lynda Blake, Mary Jo (Glenn) Kuehl, Dale (Pat) Howg, Sheila (Bob) Deutsch, Marilyn (Ron) Geving; Auntie Penny; Uncle Dick and Uncle Larry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother: Scott; grandfathers: George Howg and Ray Carpenter; Aunt: Cheryl Pogue, Uncles: Michael Carpenter and Sonny Eastman, Auntie Jean; Granny and Grandpa John Carpenter.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 12, 2003, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel and will continue Monday, October 13, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Messiah Lutheran Church, 8590 Enterprise Drive South in Mt. Iron. Pastor Kristin Foster will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Ormal Bleck, 94, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Fairfax, passed away on October 10, 2003, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 13, 2003, at 2:00 PM, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Arrangements are with the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Ormal Leonard Bleck was born on April 19, 1909, in Wellington Township, Minnesota. He was the son of Leonard and Ida (Waknitz) Black. He was baptized as an infant on May 6, 1909, at Emanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Wellington Township, and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 25, 1923, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. He received his education in his home area.
On November 1, 1935, Ormal was united in marriage to Evelyn Wiehr at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Ormal farmed in the Fairfax area and was a part-time tax assessor. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering with clocks. Ormal and Evelyn were blessed with 35 years of marriage together before Evelyn passed away on May 1, 1971.
In 1991, Ormal moved to the Assisted Living Center in Sleepy Eye Minnesota. He then moved to the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Ormal was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Ida Bleck; wife, Evelyn Bleck; brothers Melvin Black and his wife, Helen, Leon Black and his wife, Adi, and sister, Lillian Carlson and her husband, Lloyd.
Ormal is survived by his nieces, Virginia Hughes and her husband, Glenn of Big Fork, MN, and Betty Leonard and her husband, Clem of Pequot Lakes, MN.
Waldemar 'Wally' Freyholtz, 77, of 1404 South German Street in New Ulm died Friday, October 10, 2003 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 10 - 11 AM Tuesday at the church. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Wally is survived by his wife, Marilyn Freyholtz of New Ulm; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Avery Wills of New Ulm; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sheryl Freyholtz of Danvers; grandchildren, Jeremy and Marsha Freyholtz of Hutchinson, Shane Freyholtz and his fiancée Jessica Schmid of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Chad Wills of New Ulm, Aimee and Richard Dirksen of Seaforth; great grandchildren, Cody Freyholtz, Cole Freyholtz and Brayden Freyholtz; sisters and brother-in-law, Florentine Olson of Eugene, Oregon, Betty and Fred Zollner of Paynesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Ordella Freyholtz of Sumner, Iowa; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Vincent Olson.
Wally was born June 11, 1926 in Wellington Township, Renville County to Arnold and Marie (Micke) Freyholtz. He married Marilyn Nelson on October 22, 1948 in Hector. After marriage they farmed in Wellington Township, Renville County where he also owned and operated his own trucking company.
They retired in 1986 and moved to New Ulm. Wally was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, a past member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax, a past board member of the Fairfax Co-op Elevator, the Wellington Township Board whre he served as secretary and the Fairfax Rural Fire Association whre he also served as secretary.
William L. Koppen, 85, of Anoka and formerly of Gibbon died Thursday, October 9, 2003 at the Park River Estates Care Center in Coon Rapids.
Funeral service will be 10 AM Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with burial in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery.
Visitation will be 9 - 10 AM Tuesday at the church. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon is handling the arrangements.
William is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Wilson and her husband Steve of West Lafayette, Indiana, Kristi Koppen and her husband Peter Terch of Coon Rapids; three grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Donelson of Coon Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Reba Koppen of December 29, 2000; grandchildren, Matthew Wilson and Maria Terch both in infancy; and a brother, Robert Koppen in infancy.
William was born February 9, 1918 in Minneapolis to Oscar and Maude (Fox) Koppen. He attended Gibbon Public Schools and was a graduate of Gibbon High School. He then attended the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. William served in the United States Army from 1942 - 1946. He married Reba Horn on August 21, 1946 in Winthrop. After marriage they lived in Gibbon where he owned and operated O.A. Koppen and Son car dealership. He sold the dealership in 1971 and then worked in New Ulm selling automobile parts until he retired in 1980. He moved to Anoka in 2001. He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon, he was active as a Boy Scout Leader for which he received the Silver Beaver Award, he was a member of the Winthrop Masonic Lodge, the Gibbon Lions Club, the Gibbon City Hall Restoration Committee, and was the unofficial town historian for Gibbon.
Alfred Suess, 75, of Sleepy Eye, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 in Mankato.
Visitation will be 4- 8:30 p.m. Monday and 7:30 -10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial will 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday and wake service at 8 p.m. Monday.
He was born Jan. 5, 1928 to Fred and Louisa (Hindermann) Suess near St. George, in Nicollet County.
He is survived by his wife, Verna of Sleepy Eye; son, Duane, of Sleepy Eye; two grandchildren; a great grandson; five sisters, Rosella Windschitl of Sleepy Eye, Adeline Svoboda of Olivia, and Marie Evers, Cecelia Zwaschka and Marjorie Prokesch, all of Comfrey.
James Dormady, 59, of New Ulm, died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, in New Ulm.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Divine Providence Community Home Chapel, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, also at the chapel.
He was born on July 21, 1994, to Floyd and Ruth (Kuester) Dormady in Sleepy Eye.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Dormady of Sleepy Eye; daughters, Kathleen Dormady of Sleepy Eye, and Wanda Ives of Winona; three grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Dormady of Morgan; sisters, Kathleen Schewe of New Ulm, and Dorothy Hudson of Chesapeake, VA.
Gerald T. Reed, 44, of Madison Lake, formerly of New Ulm, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Gilbert, due to an all-terrain vehicle accident.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marysburg with burial in Marysburg Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be given to an organization of the donor's choice.
Donald A. Hippert, 84, of Owatonna, formerly of New Ulm, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003 at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003 at Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and Tuesday at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.

He was born Aug. 3, 1919 in New Ulm to Lawrence and Elsie (Zimmerman) Hippert.
