Elizabeth F. Scheman Stafford, 90, resident of St. Paul East Side, formerly of New Ulm, died Nov. 3, 2003.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, at Phalen Park Funeral Home, 1235 Arcade St @ Hawthrone in St. Paul. Burial will be in National Cemetery.
Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.
She was the beloved mother of Wesley Jr. (Jo), David (Karen), Susan (Al) Peterson. Also surviving are grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband Wesley Sr.; and daughter Kathleen.
Memorials are preferred to Maplewood Care Center.
Mae E. Brown, 78, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at First Presbyterian Church in Delhi, with burial in Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Belview.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Sunday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and at the church one hour prior to services on Monday.
She is survived by her husband Walter, of Redwood Falls; daughters, Linda Rydin of Maple Lake, and Dar Mackenroth of Portage, Wis.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister Inez Gullickson of Wanamingo, and a brother Walter Reierson of Fontana, Calif.
Mae Eleanor (Reierson) Brown was born May 2, 1925, in Belview to Ole and Irene (Swanson) Reierson.
John Dixon, 85, of Sleepy Eye, formerly of Hinton, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the Hinton United Methodist Church in Hinton, Iowa. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling arrangements.
John Edward Dixon, the son of Anthony and Martha (Arrowsmith) Dixon, was born Dec. 14, 1917, in Iona. As a child, he moved with his family to Hinton, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1937. John enlisted in the United States Marines July 16, 1942, serving in New Zealand, Tarawa Atoll, Hilo, Hawaii, Saipan, and Tinian.
John was united in marriage to Eva Weinrich Sept. 19, 1942, in San Diego, Calif. Following his honorable discharge in September 1945, they moved to Hinton, Iowa, where he worked for the Farmer's Elevator Company. They also owned and operated the D & J Café for many years. His specialty was his cinnamon rolls. In 1982, they retired and moved to Bella Vista, Ariz.
John was an avid golfer and worked with stained glass. He was president of the Hinton Civic Club for many years and was a Boy Scout leader. They moved to New Ulm in 1995, residing in the Real Life Cooperative. He moved to assisted living in Sleepy Eye and became a resident of Oak Hills Living Center in 2001.
Survivors include his wife Eva, a resident of the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax; children, John Dixon and his wife Roxann of Camanche, Iowa, Gwen Papierniak and her husband Karl of New Ulm, and Shirley McKim (a sister-in-law raised as a daughter from an early age) and her husband Bob of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Aaron, Angela, Elizabeth, Ashtyn, Alexandra, Adam and Alec; sisters-in-law, Francis Hanson of Remsen, Iowa, and Dorothy McKay and her husband Joe of Windsor, Conn.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Memorials are preferred to the Hinton Community School Athletic Department, Hinton, Iowa.
Irene Keller, 88, of New Ulm, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. today and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Mary's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 5:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m., both Friday at the funeral home.
Irene is survived by her nieces, Marveen Drill of New Ulm, Patty and Dan Long of Cottage Grove, and Jennifer and Dale Kugath of Waseca; a nephew, Jay and Lisa Rempfer of Mankato; great-nieces, Coleen Long, Christina Rempfer and Alison Rempfer; a great-nephew, Michael Long; step-sisters, Elvira Supfer and Elaine Black, both of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edward and Mary Keller, Joe and Monica Palmer, William and Clara Keller, all of Aberdeen, S.D., and Dale and Mary Dabbert of Warsaw, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James on April 20, 1976; a brother, Marvin Rempfer; a sister, Gertrude Mammenga; and a step-brother, Louie Lowinske.
Irene was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Venturia, N.D., to Gottleib and Amelia (Heiser) Rempfer. She was a 1932 graduate of Zeeland Public High School in Zeeland, N.D. After graduation, she taught grades 1- 8 at the Zeeland country school. She then worked as a postal clerk in the Zeeland Post Office. The family then moved to New Ulm in 1942. She married James J. Keller on Feb. 7, 1946, at the Holy Trinity Parish House in New Ulm. She then worked for J.C. Penney in New Ulm for 30 years and then for Travel Fun Tours until she retired in 1980.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm, Council of Catholic Women, Turner Ladies, St. Mary's Catholic Aid and the Glockenspiel Club.
Delilah 'Dee' Kintzi, 74, of Chanhassen, formerly of Gaylord, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at the Excelsior Nursing Home in Excelsior.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord. Burial will be at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Gaylord.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord.
Delilah "Dee" Kintzi was born June 29, 1929, in Sibley Township, Sibley County, to Walter and Hazel (Engman) Matthes.
Dee is survived by her daughter, Peggy Sinell of Golden Valley; one granddaughter; and sisters, LaVerne Greenough, of Lake Crystal and Betty Peterson of Winthrop and Doris Leske of Winthrop.
Roger A. Langevin, 54, of St. James, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Rapid City, S.D.
Services were held Oct. 20, at Holy Family Catholic Parish in Lake Crystal with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of St. James; five children, Tanya Prehn of Eagle Lake, Tina Ochs of Becker, John D. Tiede of Mankato, Taime Smith of Kileen, Texas; and Lee of St. Peter; 17 grandchildren; his mother, Anna of Lake Crystal; brothers, Richard of Rhode Island and Wayne of Morristown; sisters, Jan Thomas of Madelia; and Sharon of Norwood-Young America.
Arrangements were with Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
Elvis Schindele, 74, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Wednesday, November 5, 2003 at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital in Sleepy Eye, MN.
Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home on Friday, November 7, 2003 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday November 8, 2003 from 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
Visitation will also continue for 1 hour prior to the time of services at the church.
Service will be held at First Baptist Church In New Ulm, Mn on Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 1:30 PM The Clergy will be Rev. Robert J. Fuller with interment at the Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye, MN.

Elvis Schindele was born to William and Hattie Schindele on July 4, 1929 in Aitkin, MN. He grew up and attended grade school in Swatara, MN and attended high school in Aitkin, MN. He married Corice Walsh on Oct. 24, 1953 in Hill City, MN. He worked for the Erie Mining Co. and Osmoses Wood Preserving before moving to Sleepy Eye. Elvis owned and operated the Phillip '66' Service Station from 1962 until 1984. He then developed his hobby of owning and managing apartments. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and traveling. He was a past member of the Lions. Elvis loved the Lord and had a personal relationship with Him. He shared this love by being a Sunday School teacher and serving as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in New Ulm.
Elvis died Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital at the age of 74 years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years - Corice of Sleepy Eye; his daughter - Donna and husband Tom Miller of Litchfield, MN; a son - James and wife Beverly Schindele of Sleepy Eye, MN. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren -Andy, Erik, Chris, and Megan Miller of Litchfield, MN, Melissa Miller of Jupiter, FL, Mary and Kristen Schindele of Sleepy Eye; a great grandchild - Alexis of Litchfield, MN; sisters - Virginia Edwards of Mountain View, CA, Edith Smith of Ozark, MI, Ruth Wynkoup ofKaselof, AL, and Mary and husband Ray DeFelici of Lander, WY. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters - Mable Beebe and Erma Butterfield, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
Paul Arthur Freuler, 76, of St. James, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at his daughter's home in Apple Valley.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at First Presbyterian Church, St. James, with interment in Logan Cemetery, Logan, Kan. Arrangements are being handled by Sturm Funeral Home, St. James.
He is survived by a daughter, Trish McCarty of Apple Valley; two sons, John of Farmington and Tom of Plainsboro, N.J.; six grandchildren; his mother, Marguerite Freuler of St. Louis, Mo., and his sister, Susie Myers of Irvine, Calif.
Richard F. Berdan, 88, of Sleepy Eye, died on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye, on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. and on Wednesday Nov. 12, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. There will be a parish prayer service at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday.
Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 10:30 a.m. The clergy will be Fr. Brian Oestreich. Interment will be at the Home Cemetery with military rites by the Sleepy Eye Honor Guard

Richard was born on Feb. 15, 1915, in Morgan, MN, the son of Fred and Sophie (Reinhart) Berdan. He grew up in Morgan and Sleepy Eye and graduated from St. Mary's High School. Rich served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater with the Water Purification Unit attached to the 31st Engineers Division. He moved to Sleepy Eye where he owned and operated a well drilling and plumbing business. He married Lucille Moelter on Sept. 18, 1951, at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Wabasso. He served as director of St. Mary's Girls Drum Corps and was a drummer for 15 years in the Sleepy Eye Drum and Bugle Corps. Rich served on St. Mary's Parish Board of Education and Parish Council. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was an avid football fan, particularly St. Mary's, St. John's and Notre Dame.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Berdan of Sleepy Eye, children; Ron and Mary Berdan of Sleepy Eye, Carol and Jim Prokosch of New Ulm, Jerr and Jayna Berdan of Lorretto, MN, David and Penny Berdan of St. Cloud, Joyce and Lynn Krenz of Sleepy Eye, Diane and Wes Dodson of Dallas, TX, Brian and Lisa Berdan of Montgomery, Denis and Lisa Berdan of New Ulm; 20 grandchildren; sister, Marcella "Buddy" McReady of Berwyn, IL.; brother, Roland Berdan of Fairfax, and sister-in-law, Charlotte Berdan of Fairfax.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Agnes, Elsie, Stella, Rose in infancy and brothers, Hubert, Ted, Al and Hank.
Ruth L. Borchert, 89, of Gaylord, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at the Gaylord Lakeview Home in Gaylord.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, with burial at High Island Cemetery in New Auburn.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday 7:30-8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord.
She is survived by her son James Borchert of New Auburn; three grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and sister Opal Kirschbaum of New Auburn.
Ruth L. Borchert was born Feb. 19, 1914, to August and Marie (Hoops) Schlueter in Deer Lodge, Mont.
Gregory W. Kaminski, 70, of Redwood Falls, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003, at his home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial at a later date.

Gregory is survived by his wife Margaret of Redwood Falls; son Maciek Kaminski of Wayzata; daughter Kasia Dosedel of Chaska; brothers, Wojtek Kaminski in Poland, and Mark Kaminski in Kansas; and seven grandchildren.

Anna J. Scheurer, 77, of Shakopee, formerly of New Ulm, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Shakopee, with burial at the Catholic Cemetery in Shakopee.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. today at the Cavanaugh-McNearney Funeral Home in Shakopee, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
She is survived by her husband William; children, Steve of Algonquin, Ill., Bill of Shakopee, Julie Rein of Shakopee, and Jeff of Prior Lake; mother Anna Trautmiller; six grandchildren; one stepgrandson; three great-grandchildren; two brothers; and six sisters.
Anna J. Scheurer was born May 30, 1926, to George and Anna (Gulden) Trautmiller in New Ulm.
Duane Brandt, 45, of Phoenix, formerly of Westbrook, passed away doing what he loved -- flying his airplane -- Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003, at Trinity Bible Church in Phoenix. Visitation will be 7 - 9 p.m. today at Open Door Fellowship in Phoenix.
Duane was born Sept. 28, 1958, to Elmer and Wanda Brandt in Westbrook. He is survived by his beloved wife Carla; three children, Stephanie, Justin and Summer Mickelson; his sweet baby granddaughter Bailey; his loving parents; sister Kerry Cassens; brothers, Rodney and Greg; and his in-laws, who loved him like a son, Patricia Dyess, Nelson and Mary Alice Dyess.
Duane leaves behind many other family members who loved him and many, many friends. The word "stranger" was not in his vocabulary. He was "larger than life" and people were drawn to him like a magnet. He could tell a great story, but he was also interested in your life story. He leaves a great, big hole in his family and will be deeply missed.

Lenore Mielke, 96, of Lafayette, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2003, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday Nov. 13, 2003, at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with Rev. Garry Grunzke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling arrangements.
Lenore Harriet Carlson, the daughter of John and Josephine (Bronelle) Carlson, was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County. At an early age she moved from the family farm to Lafayette. She attended Lafayette area schools and graduated from Johnson High School in St. Paul. She married Arthur Mielke in the Lafayette Lutheran Church on Aug. 28, 1928. They lived in several Minnesota locations, where Arthur was a butter maker, then moved to Lafayette where Arthur was a Standard Oil Bulk Agent.
Lenore was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette, the Ladies Aid, and was President of the Lafayette American Legion Auxiliary. She became a resident of the former Good Samaritan Center in Lafayette in 1993 and the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in 2001.
Survivors include her son John Mielke and his wife Patricia of Stone Mountain, Ga.; daughter Marjorie Johnson and her husband Leland of Zelienople, Pa.; five grandchildren, Matthew Mielke and his wife Debbie of Birmingham, Ala., Mitchell Mielke and his wife Jan of Scottsdale, Ariz., Sara Gonzalez and her husband John of Duluth, Ga., Paula Smith and her husband Kyle of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Lori Jashinski and her husband Mike of Glenshaw, Pa.; ten great-grandchildren, Robyn, Megyn, Katelyn, Mitchell Jr., and Douglas Mielke, Heather Gonzalez, Alyssa and Katie Smith, and Julia and Jacob Jashinski; sister Jessie Miller of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center; and brother Wilton Carlson and his wife Marie of Winthrop. Lenore was preceded in death by her husband Arthur in October 1969.
Memorials are preferred to the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Linda Wieland, 82, of 2204 Butternut St. in New Ulm died Monday, November 10, 2003 at her home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 13, 2003 at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 until 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and then for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday.
Linda is survived by her husband, Norman, of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Bill Hanson of Lake Crystal, Gloria and Clifford E. Fenske of San Martin, California, Joyce and Ron Rodewald of New Ulm; sons and daughter-in-law, Norman A. Jr. and Cindy Wieland of Hanska and Charles "Chuck" Wieland and his fiancée, Debra Hippert and her children, Nathan and Tyler all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Travis, Ryan, Timothy, Chet, Jenna, Katie, Amy, Christine, and Jamie; a sister, Phyllis Cardenuto of New Ulm; a brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Chiyo Tews of New Ulm and by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Anna Tews, grandsons, Ross Hanson and Paul Peterson; and a brother and sisters-in-law, Lowell and Marlyce Tews.
Linda L. Wieland, the daughter of Alfred and Anna (Quade) Tews was born on June 24, 1921 in rural Comfrey. She attend country school in rural Comfrey before moving with her family to New Ulm in 1938. On October 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Norman H. Wieland in Hanska. After marriage they lived in New Ulm where she and her husband operated the Brown County Home for the aged for 15 years. After that she worked as a kitchen aide at Dr. Martin Luther College, and then worked at the Weneeda and Tillman Bakeries in New Ulm. Later in life she managed the paper carriers for the St. Paul Pioneer Press around the New Ulm area and then did housekeeping for the Best Western Motel in New Ulm for five years before retiring in the early 1970's. After retirement she and Norman enjoyed traveling to the south and west coasts of the U.S. during the winter months. Linda was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
