Robert Windschill, 76, of St. James, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, at St. James Catholic Church in St. James, with burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. There will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 4:30 p.m. wake service today at the funeral home.
Robert is survived by his wife Betty of St. James; sons, Paul Windschill of St. James, Brad Windschill of Harris, and Greg Windschill of New Ulm; daughters, Karen Dupre of Michigan City, Ind., and Deb Falcon of Clark Summit, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother Ermin Windschill of Eden Prairie; and sisters, Rose Hodapp of Sherburn, and Marion Jereb of Yreka, Calif.
Robert Windschill was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Comfrey, to Martin and Alice (Linde) Windschill. He served in the U.S. Army from July 1945 - April 1947.

Albert Ochs, 80, of Faribault and formerly of New Ulm died, Thursday, December 4, 2003 at Infinia of Faribault Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at 10 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, at Sacred Heart, in Faribault, with the Rev. Kevin Finnegan, pastor officiating. Interment will be held at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. with military honors provided by the New Ulm Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to services. Parish prayers will be recited on Monday evening at 4:30 p.m.
Albert Joseph Ochs, the son of Ferdinand and Maude (Schuller) Ochs, was born on Aug. 5, 1923 in New Ulm, MN. He attended New Ulm High School and graduated with the class of 1941. On Dec. 15, 1942 Al entered the Air Force with the Army airways communication services as a radio mechanic during World War II. He was discharged on Feb. 12, 1946. After his service time, Al worked at his father's clothing store in New Ulm, called the Bee Hive, for 10 years with his father and brother Leon. On Jan. 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to Melva Dammann in New Ulm. In that same year, Al bought the Shamrock Bar in Faribault and operated it until 1963 when he sold it and went to work for Thomas D. Murphy Co. selling advertising products. Later Al became the office manager for Healy Construction in Faribault and retired in 1985. Al was very active as a volunteer at Infinia in Faribault, once called Faribault Manor, playing cards with the residents and being President of the Family Council. He also enjoyed having morning coffee with his friends. Al was a member of several organizations including, the Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus Council 889, the V.F.W. Post 1562 and the American Legion Post 43 and the 40 & 8 club all in Faribault. Al was also Commander at the New Ulm American Legion Post 132 in 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Melva Ochs of Faribault, by a daughter, Laurie (& Robert) Braun of Faribault and by a son, Randy (& Julie) Ochs of Faribault; by five granddaughters and one great granddaughter and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Leon Ochs.

Dr. Theodore "Ted" Fritsche, 97, of 715 Summit Avenue, New Ulm died Friday, December 5, 2003 at his home.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 8 at the United Church of Christ in New Ulm with Reverend Henry Campbell officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by New Ulm Veterans Organizations will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 ­ 6:00 p.m. Sunday and 7:00 ­ 8:30 a.m. Monday at Schmucker Funeral Service and one hour prior to services at the church.
Theodore Roosevelt Fritsche, the son of Dr. Louis and Amalia (Pfaender) Fritsche, was born October 23, 1906 in New Ulm. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1928 and his medical degree in 1930. He interned at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, and completed his residency at the Illinois Charitable Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, followed by additional training at Ancker Hospital in St. Paul. He was united in marriage to Lois Quast on February 20, 1935 in Tucson, Arizona. They moved to New Ulm where Dr. Ted began his practice that same year. Until 1960, he was an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist, then specialized on the eye. He practiced at the Fritsche Clinic as well as both Loretto and Union Hospitals, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening and photography. Dr. Ted served as mayor of New Ulm from 1952-58, was President of the Minnesota Association of Mayors in 1957, a past Vice-President of the Minnesota Medical Association, a past President of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the Brown County Medical Society, American College of Surgeons, New Ulm Turnverein, Lions Club, Brown County Historical Society, Minnesota Historical Society, Junior Pioneers, and a founding member of the Preschool Survey of Vision and Hearing, Minnesota. In 1967 he received the Harold S. Diehl Award from the University of Minnesota, in 1972 the President's Award from the Minnesota Medical Association, in 1990 the Sertoma Award which he shared with his wife Lois, and in 1992 the German Federal Republic Cross of Merit (Das Verdienstkreuz).
Survivors include his wife Lois of New Ulm; daughters, Jane Fritsche Watson and her husband Tom of North Oaks, MN, Katherine Fritsche and her husband Roger Higgins of Ruffin, NC; sons, Dr. Theodore Fritsche and his wife Chris of Marshall, MN, and Dr. Thomas Fritsche and his wife Mary Jo of Cedar Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William, Albert and Carl; and sisters, Elsa Bond and Louise Menzel.
Memorials are preferred to the Vision Foundation of the University of Minnesota and the Brown County Historical Society.

Merle Wayne Heck, 76, of Omaha, Neb., died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 in Omaha.
Services are 1 p.m. Sunday at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Omaha, with burial in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Brighton Township, Nicollet County. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of local arrangements.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Wischstadt) Heck of Omaha; daughter Sherri Dixon; and brothers, Rodger and Russell.
He was born Aug. 2, 1927 in Dakota City, Neb., to William and Freda (Hall) Heck. He served in the Navy during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.

Catherine M. Woitas, 67, of Mankato, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at Immanuel ­ St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Minnesota Lake. Visitation will be from 4 ­ 7 p.m. on Monday at Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Catherine Mary Woitas was born October 22, 1936 to Clyde and Anna (Kulla) Leininger in rural Wells, MN. She attended Minnesota Lake High School. Catherine was united in marriage to Gerald F. Woitas on November 5, 1953 in Minnesota Lake. She worked in the banking industry for Norwest Bank and American State Bank, both in Mankato. She then worked with her husband in the trucking industry before retiring in 1993. Catherine was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Mankato Moose Club. Her interests included fishing, classic cars, her dogs and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Duane and Joy of rural Pemberton, Larry and Peggy of rural Lake Crystal; fou grandchildren, Jammey Woitas and wife, Pam, Hollie Woitas, Jennifer Woitas, Joel Woitas; two great-grandchildren, Falecia and Jordan Woitas; mother, Anna C. Drill of Mankato; three sisters and their husbands, Addie and Bill Armstrong of St. Cloud, Carol and Grant Beske of Princeton, NJ, Marsha and Michael Burgraff of Fairmont; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her father, husband, infant daughter, and infant granddaughter.

Gladys E. Mahlum, 73, of Morton, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Redwood Area Hospital
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton, with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Morton.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson-Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls, and one hour prior to service at the church.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, of Morton, son, John S. Mahlum of Hudsonville, Mich., daughters: Kay Berger of Brandon, S.D., Mary Patten of Chatfield, Susan Montgomery of Eden Prairie; 11 grandchildren; two sisters; and eight brothers.
She was born July 15, 1930 in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to Walter H. E. Krueger and Anna Emma Radunz.

Ruth Laabs, 77, of Arlington, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service is 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Arlington, with burial in the Arlington Public Cemetery.
Visitation is 3-8 p.m., Monday, at Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and continues one hour before the service Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
She is survived by her son Bert Laabs of Waconia; daughters, Annette PaaJanen of West Linn, Oregon and Ruby (Joe) Nagel of Henderson; and nine grandchildren.
She was born on July 1, 1926, in Dryden Township, Sibley County, Minnesota to Edward and Elsie (Stucke) Nieland.

Otto Milbrett, 79, of Buffalo Lake, died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, with burial at Zion Evangelical Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. today at Zion United Methodist church and will continue one hour prior to service Wednesday.
Arrangements are with Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.
Otto is survived by his wife Ruby (Vath) Milbrett of Buffalo Lake; son Lynn Milbrett of Norwood Young America; two grandchildren; sisters, Norma Swenson of Minneapolis, Helen Wendorff of Hutchinson, and Hertha LaBelle of Cambridge; and brother Arnold Milbrett of Hutchinson.
Otto Fredrick Gustav Milbrett was born May 4, 1924, to Otto and Hertha (Rolloff) Milbrett in New Ulm.

Caroline Feder, 92, of Oceanside, Calif., formerly of Madelia, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in Carlsbad, Calif.
Funeral services are 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm

Samuel J. Hammond, 89, of Sleepy Eye, died on Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital.
Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11, at Faith United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Home Cemetery
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m., Thursday at the church
Arrangements are handled by the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.
Survivors include his wife Inez Hammond of Sleepy Eye and stepdaughter, Kathleen Tresemer of Mankato.
Samuel J. Hammond was born on Aug. 15, 1914, in Minneapolis to Joseph J. and Inez M. Hammond.

Marlene Timm, 68, of Brownton, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at her home.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4:-8 p.m., Friday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until the service begins.
Marlene is survived by her husband Merlin Timm, of Brownton; mother, Clara Stunkel of Hutchinson; daughters, Beverly Timm-Lannon of Henning, Karen Buckentin of Brownton, Sheryl Timm of St Charles, Mo., Connie Timm of Brownton, and five grandchildren

Earl H. Baker, 82, of North Mankato, formerly of New Ulm, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato.
Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at Woodland Hills Funeral Home in Mankato with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and will continue at the church for one hour prior to services on Saturday.
Earl is survived by his wife Ruth; sons, Jeffrey of Arnold, Md., and James of Burnsville; daughters, Dianne Oachs of Mankato, and Nancy Tatarack of Madison Lake; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Earl Harvey Baker was born Sept. 27, 1921, to Ed and Elizabeth (Coonley) Baker in Racine, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1945.

Jason W. Meyer, 33, of Sleepy Eye, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at Sleepy Eye Municipal Hospital after a six year battle with cancer.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Home Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday and 7:30 - 9 a.m., Saturday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, and will continue one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
Jason is survived by his mother Mary Meyer of Sleepy Eye; father, Monis and wife Linda Meyer of Morgan; children, Abigale and Ian "Willie" Meyer of Mankato; grandmother, Stella Rathman of Sleepy Eye; sister, Tracee Fromm of Sleepy Eye. He is also survived by his birth parents and their families.
Jason was born Jan. 9, 1970, to Monis and Mary (Rathman) Meyer in Hennepin County.

Clara Pockrandt, 93, of Heber Springs, Ark., formerly of Arlington, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Heber Springs, Ark.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Peace Lutheran Church with Rev. Kurt Lehmkuhl officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington Public Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington, and one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday.
The daughter of Herman and Ida (Quast) Blume, Clara was born Nov. 7, 1910, in Sibley County. On March 7, 1925, she married Harry A. Pockrandt in New Ulm.
Clara is survived by her three sons, Milo Pockrandt of Forest Park, Ill., Laverne "Butch" (Gwen) Pockrandt of Mansfield, La., and Delton "Bud" (Vydell) Pockrandt of Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Dorothy (Norm) Tock of Grand Rapids, Mich., Arleen (Dick) St. Clair of Heber Springs, Ark., and Carol (Roger) Wehrstein of Counce, Tenn.; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Harrison; a daughter, Delphine Carver; a grandson, Larry Pockrandt; a sister, Selma Pockrandt; and two brothers, Martin and Herman Blume.

Viola Emma (Moeller) Schmid, 89, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 13, at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel. Burial will be at St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery in Springfield.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Home Chapel in Springfield.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield.
Viola is survived by her children, Karen Coners of Springfield, Kenneth Schmid of Maple Plain, Robert Schmid of San Diego, Calif., and Theodore Schmid of San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cordella Knadel of Springfield.
She was born Aug. 14, 1914, to Peter H. and Emma H. (Hagedorn) Moeller in North Star Township, Brown County.
