Hunter Jason Wilking, newborn son of Jason and Jessica (Thompson) Wilking, was born, baptized and died Jan. 6, 2004, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Family funeral services will be held at Scandian Grove Lutheran Church in Norseland, Minnesota, with Rev. Jerry Lanes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Hunter Jason Wilking is survived by his parents Jason and Jessica Wilking of Nicollet; maternal grandparents, Brian and Lisa Thompson; paternal grandmother, Judy Wilking, maternal great-grandparents, Herb and Louise Poncin, Wally and Bernice Thompson; paternal great-grandmother, Josie Wilking; and uncle, Craig Thompson all of Nicollet.

Mary Embacher, 93 of Mankato, died Jan. 7, 2004, at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Ss.Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Father Ted Hottinger officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday 4-8 p.m. at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation resumes one hour before the funeral at the church.
Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Mary was born October 25, 1910 in Munich, Germany, to Josef and Mary (Ostermeier) Widmann. She immigrated to Mankato in 1915. On Feb. 23, 1929, she married Max Embacher. Throughout the years she worked at Phillips Broiler, Johnson Laundry, Harold's Grocery, and did housecleaning for a number of people.
She was an active member of Saints Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, participated in the Ladies Guild and was a member of the Stammtisch German American Club. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends, playing cards, crocheting, traveling, fishing, and square dancing.
Mary Embacher is survived by two daughters: Mary Ann Pongratz and Maxine Griffin (Mike); four sons: Vincent (Jan), Carl (Linda), all of Mankato, William (Dianne) of Brigham City, Utah and Richard (Irene) of New Ulm; two brothers: Robert Hruby (Delores) of Madelia and William Hruby (Rose) of North Mankato; brother-in-law Wilhelm Embacher of Munich, Germany; 25 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 4, 1990; parents; stepfather Jacob Hruby; two brothers: Sonny Hruby and Don Hruby; two sisters: Lena McCollum (Lester) and Helen Bohnert (Andy); sister-in-law Gertrude "Trudl" Embacher; son-in-law Frank Pongratz; and great-grandson Dustin Pongratz.

Marilyn E. Goplin, 73, of Edina and formerly of Mankato, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Centenary United Methodist Church on Broad and Cherry Street in Mankato with burial in the Woodland Hills Cemetery in Mankato.
Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home of New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, L.G. "Jerry" Goplin of Edina; son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Chris (Manderfeld) Goplin of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. (Goplin) and Kevin D. Wilde of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, twins, Jacquelyn and Jonathan Goplin of North Mankato, Sarah Wilde of Eden Prairie; brother and sister-in-law, Gary L. and Patricia Gaarder of Ellenton, Florida; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Jean Goplin of Richland Center, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Marilyn Gaarder, daughter of Lester and Elma (Kanable) Gaarder was born on March 4, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Milwaukee State Teacher's College and was president of the Association for Childhood Education in 1951 and was also initiated into Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational sorority in 1952. On June 27, 1953 she married LaVon "Jerry" Goplin in Richland Center, Wisconsin. After marriage she taught Kindergarten in Minneapolis, San Francisco, and from 1954 to 1989 she taught in several schools in Mankato. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato and was active in her church and sang for many years in the church choir. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the National Kidney Foundation or donor's choice.

Joyce Ann Olsen, 72, of Apple Valley died Jan. 6, 2004.
Visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorial service is Monday, Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of the Risen Savior, 1501 CR 42, Burnsville.
She was preceded in death by son Chris, parents and a sister
She is survived by loving husband of 50 years and best friend, George; adoring children, Ann and husband Chris Bohl of Circle Pines, Bill and wife Susie of Northfield, Patricia and husband Dan Paulson of Hanska, Julie and husband Kevin McNealey of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren and sister Nancy; special relatives, Don and Mary McHugh, Doryce and Frank Surma; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She loved her volunteer work and special friends at church. She enjoyed golf and traveling with George.
She was born July 9, 1931, to William and Ann McHugh. She graduated in 1949 from Columbia Heights High School. She served in the USMC for three years before marrying George at Quantico, Va. They lived in New Ulm from 1970 to 1981.
Memorials are preferred to the University of Minnesota Cancer Research Center where her body was donated.

Elizabeth Ross, 72, of Gaylord and formerly of Crosby and Stewart, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home.
Services are 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the chapel of Gaylord Lakeview Nursing Home.
Arrangements are handled by Egesdal Funeral Home.
She is survived by sons Theodore Ross of Hillsboro, Ill., Randy Ross of Minneapolis and Jeffery Ross of St. Cloud; and sister Marie Lee of Deerwood; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was born Dec. 25, 1930, in St. Paul.

Alois Schmitt Alois Schmitt, 95, of 3313 Cattaraugus Ave. in Culver City, Calif., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004.
Memorial mass will be held Friday at Holy Cross Mortuary, 5835 West Slauson Av. in Culver City.
Alois is survived by his wife, Helen of Culver City; daughter Jolaine Suess of New Ulm; son, Charles "Butch" Schmitt, and daughter, Kathy Schmitt of Culver City; grandchildren, Steven Suess, Gary Suess and Mike Suess of New Ulm, Julie Hoerle of Oronoco, MN; great grandchildren Amy Peterson, Brandy Kuck, Mike Suess and Steven Suess, Alicia, Brian, Jason and Kristina Hoerle; great-great grandchildren, Bailey Peterson and Trinity Suess.
Alois was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Gertrude Schmitt; 11 brothers and sisters, Christina, Kate, Gertrude, Mary and Genovea, John, Leonard, Frank, Andrew, Fred and William.
Alois was born Feb. 3, 1908, to Chris and Gertrude Schmitt in Brown County. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School. He married Sirena Wills in 1932. He was a truck driver for Stork Brothers for many years. He married Helen Riese in 1948 and moved to Los Angeles, where he worked at Vy-shan, a factory. He retired and was a great gardener. His back yard was filled with vegetables and fruit trees. He liked watching baseball on TV. He traveled many times to Minnesota to visit with family and friends. He was a member of Mary Magdalene Catholic Church of Los Angeles.

James "Jim" O'Gara, 94, of St. Cloud, father of Carolyn (Mrs. Eldon) Traulich, formerly of New Ulm, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Chapel, Osakis.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.

Marie Ann Otto, 81, of Arlington, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Peace Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Arlington.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Kolden Funeral Service in Arlington is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her brother, Elmer Soeffker of Arlington.
Marie was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Arlington Township to William and Anna (Gruenhagen) Soeffker.

Isaac Gordon Hupana Watterson - Isaac Gordon Hupana "Brud" Watterson, Dakota name "Wakiya Duza" (meaning Swift Thunder), 16, of Redwood Falls, formerly of Proctor, died suddenly Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lower Sioux Community Center (in the new building). Interment will follow in St. Cornelia's Cemetery.
Visitation continues today at St. Cornelia's Church Hall at the Lower Sioux Community, and will continue until the time of the service on Tuesday. There will be prayer services at 5 p.m. on Sunday, and 5 p.m. on Monday during the visitation at the church hall. The Redwood Valley
Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Isaac was born April 4, 1987 in Duluth to Charles "Chip" and Gail (Kitto) Watterson.
He is survived by his parents, Charles and Gail Watterson of Redwood Falls; brothers, Levi at home, and Little Chip in the United States Marine Corps; grandparents: Bea and Al Kitto of Proctor, Lydia Conito of Morton, and Carl Conito of Duluth; great grandmother: Cecelia Kitto of Niobrara, NE; Kushi Carol Taylor of Prairie Island.

REDWOOD FALLS -- Meta L. Marks, 98, of Redwood Falls, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004 at Olive Ridge Home in Buffalo Lake.
Services are 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at Middle Creek United Methodist Church in Flora Township and at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at Salem United Methodist Church in Blue Earth.
Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Monday at Middle Creek United Methodist Church in Flora Township and Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church in Blue Earth, one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are by the Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls.
She is survived by four children; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister, Martha Schaefer of Blue Earth.
She was born April 25, 1905 in Sherburn to G. Louis and Lydia (Finke) Schaefer.

Harold Franke, 90, of Gaylord, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at the Gaylord Lakeview Home in Gaylord.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan.15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church and will continue for one hour prior to the time of the service.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Esther Franke of Gaylord; sons, Robert Franke of Brodhead, Wis., and Kenneth Franke of Gaylord; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Harold was born May 11, 1913, in Sibley Township, Sibley County, to August and Augusta (Kuehner) Franke.

Sophie Miller, 89, of Winthrop, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop. Burial will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and continues one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
She is survived by her: daughter Myrtle R. Gieseke of New Ulm; sons, Charles M. Miller of Glen Ullin, N.D. and Sam C. Miller of Winthrop; 24 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother Howard Schmidgall of Hancock, Minn.; and sisters, Matilda Syverson of Marshall, Esther Lienemann of St. Paul, Doris Strom of Shorewood, Anita Gayken of Montevideo, and Arlene Ohland of Alexandria.
Sophie Magdaline (Schmidgall) Miller was born May 13, 1914, in Morris, Minn., to Charlie and Caroline (Strom) Schmidgall.

Douglas Petersen, 74, of St. James, died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at St. James Health Services Hospital.
Service is 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James on Thursday.
Burial will be in Gilfillan Cemetery near Morgan at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, and 7:30-9 a.m., Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James; and continue one hour before services at the church.
Survivors include his wife JoAnn Petersen of St. James, daughter Diane Enstad of Hutchinson; son Mark Petersen of St. James; five grandchildren; siblings, Adeline Story of Elk River, brother Petersen of St. James, Elaine Phillips of St. Paul and Sharon Creamer of St. Paul.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1929, in Morgan, to David and Dagny (Knudsen) Petersen.

Hulda Schmidt, 84, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at the Auburn West Nursing Home.
Services were held Sunday, Jan. 11, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington, with burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.
Hulda is survived by her children, Charley Schmidt of Glencoe, Donna Mae Kirchenwitz of Excelsior, and Cathie Sturges of Glencoe; 15 grandchildren;17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Nelson of Glencoe.
Hulda Frieda Schmidt was born to Joseph and Anna (Drill) Pongratz on Jan. 8, 1920, in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County.

Lillian T. Dunne, 89, of New Hope, formerly of Redwood Falls, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at St. Therese Care Center in New Hope.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 15, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery, Vesta.
Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m., Thursday at the church.
Nelson-Martin Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by daughters, Janice Segar of Bloomington, and Kathleen Archer of Ramsey; sons, James Dunne of Brainerd, and Father Dennis Dunne of Edina; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Gores of Arlington, and Josephine Routhe of St. Michael
She was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Westline Township, Redwood County, to Joseph and Josephine (Wilt) Soupir.
