Marianne Schipplick, 78, of Lafayette, died Thursday, February 5, 2004, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with Rev. Garry Grunzke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Schmucker Funeral Service of New Ulm is handling the arrangements.
Marianne Rose Tuxhorn, the daughter of Henry and Helen (Straka) Tuxhorn, was born January 4, 1926, in McPherson, KS where she spent her youth and attended school. After graduating from McPherson High School, she attended Normal School and taught in a country school for a time. With the onset of World War II, she found work in a powder plant in Indiana. Marianne married Hugh Cain in 1950. They lived in Chicago, Wisconsin, and northern Minnesota, where they owned and operated a supper club. The couple then purchased the former Birch Coulee Restaurant near Franklin, which they operated for several years. After her husband's death, Marianne moved to Lafayette where she married Eldred "Tom" Schipplick on August 23, 1980. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and Lafayette American Legion Auxiliary Post 300. Her husband Tom died February 11, 1998.
Survivors include her sister Eunice Wordelman of Lafayette; brother Willis Tuxhorn of Salina, KS; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Marianne was preceded in death by a sister in infancy.

Norbert J. Berberich, 92,formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Service will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. The clergy will be Father Dennis Labat. Interment will be at Springfield City Cemetery
Visitation will be at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Norbert J. Berberich was born Oct. 3, 1911 in Clements, the son of Francis J. and Margaret (Stitz) Berberich. On July 19, 1937 he married DeLoris Isaackson in Springfield. The couple made their home in Springfield in the 1940's and had lived in Moorhead, Vermillion, S.D., New Prague, Alexandria, Prescott Valley, Ariz., Montgomery, Minnetonka, and most recently in Pylmouth. Norbert had owned and operated Ben Franklin Stores in Vermillion and New Prague and was a barber for 30 years. He was a Financial Secretary for the Knights of Columbus in Prescott Valley, Ariz., Prescott, Ariz., Alexandria, and Springfield, and was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, and golf.
He is survived by his children, Karen and husband Clarence Kotte of Germantown, TN, Bruce and wife Leta Berberich of Tucson Ariz., and Brian and wife Sharon Berberich of Plymouth; five grandchildren, Kristopher and wife Renee Kotte, Kimbertly Kotte, Paula Berberich, Chad and wife Lisa Berberich, and Jonas and wife Tammy Berberich; great grandchildren, Connor Kotte, Jack Kotte, Benjamin Kotte, Stuart Berberich, John Robert Berberich, Dylan Berberich, Alexandria Berberich, Zachary Berberich, Aaron Berberich, Samuel Berberich, Kylie Berberich, Braydan Berberich, and Noah Berberich; and a sister, Adeline Flaig.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, DeLoris Berberich; and sisters, Mary Ann Maurer and Avenell Boelke.

Virginia L. Bulau, age 75, of Winthrop, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Hutchinson Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2004, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, in Winthrop.
Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral chapel. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Virginia Lee (Hagg) Bulau was born March 30, 1928, in Cornish Twp., Sibley Co. She was the daughter of Hilding and Marion (Hall) Hagg.
Virginia graduated from Winthrop High School and continued her education at beauty school. Virginia married Chester Bulau on June 28, 1952, in Winthrop. After their marriage, the couple moved to Sleepy Eye, for two years before returning to Winthrop.
Virginia owned and operated a beauty shop out of her home in Winthrop and was still actively working. She was a member of the Winthrop Legion Auxiliary.
Virginia was very devoted to her mother. She also enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, collecting stamps, pencils and seashells, lapidary (working with rocks), crocheting, wood-working, gardening, and bowling.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester on August 15, 1999, and other relatives.
Survivors include her brother-in-law, Edgar Bulau and his wife, Maxine of Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Inez Pagel of Winthrop, and JoAnn Wolter of Arlington, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Rachel "Peggy" Castle, 76, of New Ulm died Friday, February 6, 2004 at the St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2004 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of service at the funeral home.
Rachel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Richard White of Apple Valley, and Vivian and Steven Hindermann of Waconia; a son, Allan Castle of Little Falls; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren; sisters, Iona Anderson of St. Paul, Edith Tschample of Long Prairie, and Lucille Vanderwerf of St. Cloud; brothers and sisters-in-law, Syril and Betty Sizer of Duluth and George and Shirley Sizer of Backus. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edgar "Red" Castle on February 7, 1999; brothers, William, Glenn, and Donald Sizer; and a sister, Irene Collins.
Rachel was born on May 31, 1927 in Long Prairie to Lucas and Angela (Pasch) Sizer. On March 18, 1949, she married Edgar Castle in Gaylord. Rachel was a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn, a driver for the New Ulm Journal for many years, and a waitress at Beyer's Steakhouse and Ida's cafe. She was also a past member of the American Legion Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Lakota Plafcan, a seven year old grand-niece living with cancer (For more information log on to www.caringbridge.com), or to Mikey Vanderwerf, a 12-year-old grand-nephew living with cerebral palsy.

June Matter, 66, of Springfield died Saturday, Feb. 7 at the New Ulm Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at St. Raphael's Church in Springfield with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday, 7:30-10 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. A Parish Prayer Service will be at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A CCW Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
She is survived by husband, Norbert of Springfield; children, Kay Baumann of Onalaska, Wis., Fay Claeys of Seffner, Fla., Mark Matter of Springfield, Paul Matter of Springfield, Amy Matter-Hines of Brainerd, Scott Matter of Sanborn, Tina Matter of Glenwood, and Jason Matter of Milliken, Colo; five grandchildren; and a sister - Joyce Pieske of Alberta.
June Marie Matter was born June 17, 1937 in Stately Township, Brown County, the daughter of Fred and Clowie (Jenkins) Schnobrich.

Lester G. Domeier, 72 of Fairfax,, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at his home in Fairfax, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Interment will be at the church Cemetery, in Cairo Twp., Renville Co.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, and 8 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
There will be a KC rosary service at 6 p.m.., and a parish prayer service at 7p.m.., both on Tuesday night at the church.
Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Lester George Domeier was born July 27, 1931, in Fairfax. He was the son of George and Frances (Jandl) Domeier.
Lester attended St. Andrew's Parochial School in Fairfax. He worked at Vic Manufacturing, in Minneapolis, from 1967 to 1972, and worked at ADC from 1976 to 1990. He most recently worked at Jackpot Junction, as a janitor, from 1997 to 2003. On December 26, 2003, Lester received a certificate from Jackpot Junction, for excellent work and never being late.
Lester was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and was active with the Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Lester also loved to go fishing and he enjoyed working in his garden and harvesting his apple tree.
He loved the loyal companionship of his dog, Daisy.
Lester was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Domeier; sister, Ann Hopke; brothers-in-law, Gilbert Schweiss, and Bill Brindley; niece, Geri Lynn Schweiss; and great-Nephews, Ryan Anderson, and Riley Domeier.
Survivors include his brothers, Ted Domeier and his wife, Connie of Fairfax, and John Domeier and his wife, Pat of Bird Island; sisters, Dorothy Caven and her husband, Gene of Morton, Bea Schweiss of Fairfax, Betty Sadler and her husband, Tom of Minneapolis, Jeanne Brindley of Minneapolis, Ruth Faunce and her husband, Dick of Maple Grove; sister-in-law, and Rita Domeier of Fairfax; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clayton and Marlys Hopke of St. Cloud and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

Jim Nelson, 49, of rural Lafayette died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at his home after a four-month, courageous battle with a rare form of cancer.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Nelson of rural Lafayette; daughters, Jenny Nelson and special friend, Jake Volk both of New Ulm, Carrie Nelson and Katie Nelson both of rural Lafayette; stepmother, Opal Nelson of New Ulm; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Ron Trebelhorn of Winthrop, and Judy and Tom Rieke of Nicollet; a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Jerine Nelson of Winthrop; mother-in-law and father-in-law, June and Fred Milbrett of rural New Ulm; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chuck and Kathy Milbrett of St. James and Dennis and Audrey Milbrett of rural New Ulm; a grandmother-in-law, Martha Wellner of New Ulm; and by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Richard Milbrett.
Jim was born on August 27, 1954, in New Ulm to Kenneth and Glorine (Ruhnow) Nelson. He attended school in Winthrop graduating in 1972. On Dec. 1, 1979, he married Sue (Milbrett) Johnson at the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette. He worked various jobs throughout the area but farmed most of his life in Cornish Township, Sibley County. Jim enjoyed socializing, camping, fishing, hunting, and bowling. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lafayette and the church cemetery board.

Dorothy E. Beck, 88 of Mapleton, died on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial is at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Mapleton on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the church with a 7:30 prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy was born on March 6, 1915 to George and Mary (Wendinger) Schweiss in Martinsberg Township, Renville County. She attended St. Andrew's Catholic School in Fairfax and then she helped on the farm with the rest of her family. On October 23, 1940 Dorothy married Frank Beck at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at Fairfax and became a homemaker. She belonged to the Catholic Aid Society and the CCW.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Beck (Debi), Steven Beck (Peg); three daughters, Ruth Larson, Anna Brackelsberg, and Mary Breiter (John); 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank; two sons, two grandsons, one granddaughter; six brothers; four sisters, one daughter-in-law; and one son-in-law.

Fernell Gehrt Newton, 75 of Anaconda, Mont., formerly of New Ulm, died Feb. 6, 2004, of a heart attack.
She was the daughter of Jesse and Emma (Paulsen) Gehrt. She graduated from New Ulm High School, class of 1950.
She is survived by her husband Conrad of Anaconda; a brother Arlen (Gloria); sisters, LaVonne (Harley) Hoffmann and Myrna Roiger, all of New Ulm; a daughter Christine (Tim) Ravndal; and three grandchildren.

Donna M. Sherman, age 66, of Franklin, MN, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2004, at the Franklin Healthcare Center.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., and Wednesday, 8:00-10:30 a.m., at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Interment will be in the Ft. Ridgely Cemetery in Ridgely Twp., Nicollet Co., MN.
Donna Marie (Horner) Sherman was born June 18, 1937, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Anthony and Elsie (Hoffmann) Horner. Donna was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a youth. In 1952, Donna and her family moved to Franklin, Minnesota.
She graduated from Franklin High School, in 1955.
Donna was united in marriage with Charles Sherman on May 21, 1960, in Fairfax, Minnesota. The couple resided in Franklin, where Donna worked 40 years, at the Franklin State Bank. She retired in 1995. Donna entered the Franklin Healthcare Center in 1997, when she needed assistance with her daily care.
Donna loved spending time with her family and friends. She would always decorate her home at Christmas and for other holidays and would have an open house so that her friends in Franklin could stop by to enjoy her decorations and refreshments. Donna enjoyed traveling to Europe and Africa, and also embroidery and making flower arrangements.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Elsie Horner; husband, Charles Sherman; and brothers, Florian "Jack" Horner in 1977 and LaRay Horner in infancy.
Donna is survived by her: nieces and nephews, Beverly Bechner and her husband, Jeffrey of Fond du Lac, WI; Thomas Horner of Midwest City, OK; Bonnie Tauer and her husband, Jerome of Harrison, AR and Margaret "Margi" Horner of Wauwatosa, WI; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; and one great-great-niece; sister-in-law, Marilyn Wolter of Franklin, MN; and friends.

William Harold Stanek, Jr., 83,of Sanborn, died on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton.
Service is 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Willow Lake Township.
Burial will be in the Wanda City Cemetery.
Visitation is noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday at the church.
Arrangements with Sturm Funeral Home of Lamberton.
He is survived by brother Lowell Stanek of Alexandria.
William H. 'Buddy' Stanek, Jr. was born Nov. 23, 1920, in Willow Lake Township, Redwood County, to William L. and Leona (Bauer) Stanek.

Gerald Dennis Wandersee, 62, of Nicollet, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at his home.
Memorial services are 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Woodland Hills Chapel in Mankato.
Family will greet visitors for one hour prior to the service.
Gerald was born March 26, 1941, in Sioux City, Iowa and later adopted by Paul and Marie (Krieger) Wandersee from New Ulm, Minn. He grew up and went to school in New Ulm. After high school Gerald married Jana Nutting on March 12, 1962, in New Ulm. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He and Jana divorced and later re-married on Nov. 18, 2000 in St. Cloud.
Gerald worked at the Salvation Army in St. Cloud and Pioneer Snacks in Mankato. In his leisure time he enjoyed doing anything outdoors including target practice and fishing. He also loved dogs and was a very good cook.
He is survived by his wife Jana; son Dean Olstad of Nicollet; daughter Brenda Theis and her husband Daniel of Elk River; eight grandchildren, Daniel Jr, Jessica, Erin, Anthony, Jonathan, Jade, Shae, and Aliyah; and brother, Melvin Brown of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
