Muriel Schroeder, 82, of rural Courtland died Sunday, February 29, 2004 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004 at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Thomas Henning officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 - 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Thursday.
Muriel Jane, daughter of Martha (Loose) and John J. "Hubby" Zupfer was born December 9,1921 in New Ulm. As a child, she enjoyed hiking, hunting and fishing with her parents.
She attended St. Paul's Grade School, and graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1939. She was active in band, orchestra, chorus, girls drum corps and the school paper. After graduation, she worked a short time in the medical records department at Union Hospital and then at the Brown County Journal until her marriage to Donald R. Schroeder on September 9, 1942 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. They farmed in Courtland Township where they bred and raised Holstein cattle. The family participated in many county and state fairs.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Schroeder of rural Courtland; children, Janet and Dean Neumann of rural Lake Crystal, Sharon and Roger Wepplo of rural New Ulm, and John and Beverly Schroeder of rural Courtland; grandsons, Bill Neumann, Lee and Craig Wepplo, Jason Schroeder and his fiancée, Michele Dammann, and Tim Schroeder; granddaughters, Rebecca and (Jesse) Wolters and Melissa Schroeder; two great-granddaughters, Kaylie and Kelsey Wolters; a brother, Curtis J. Zupfer of North Mankato; sister-in-law, Darlene and (Vernon) "Ader" Wieland of New Ulm; brother-in-law, Gordon and (Loretta) Schroeder of Cambridge; and by nieces and nephews.
Muriel bowled in the Prime-Time league and in the year 2001, bowled in the National Senior Tournament in Reno, Nevada. She served on several committees and two different terms as president of the St. Paul's Ladies Aid. She was the group's pianist until her illness.
Her parents, and a twin daughter, Jane Elizabeth preceded her in death. In Lieu of flowers, Muriel's family prefers memorials to the St. Paul's Parish Center and the American Cancer Society.

Jerel 'Little Woody' Ahrens, 52, of Franklin, died Monday, March, 2004, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m., Friday, March 5, at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Thursday, with a 7 p.m., parish prayer service at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls; and continues one hour before the service Friday at the church.
He is survived by parents, William "Woody" and Sally Ahrens of Franklin; and sister, Sherri Zimmerman of Windom.
He was born March 15, 951, in Redwood Falls to William and Celestine (Sally) Kodet.

Pearl Reyo, 78, of Gibbon, died Sunday, February 29, 2004, at the St. Peter Community Health Care Center in St. Peter.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 6, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 7:30-9 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Pearl is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Karen and Loren Roepke of Cokato; a son, Wayne Reyo; a son-in-law, James Bethke of Coon Rapids; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Kenny and Donna Raitz of Commerce City, Colo.; and a sister-in-law, Ida Raitz of Bird Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond W. Reyo on July 21, 1995; daughter, Carol Bethke; sisters, Ethel Peris, Verlinda Yaunick, Violet Bergmann, and Alvina Hopp; and a brother, Ervin Raitz.
Pearl was born on May 13, 1925, in Sumter Township, McLeod County, to William and Agusta (Schiroo) Raitz. On August 10, 1945, she married Raymond Reyo in Morton. They lived in Franklin until moving to Gibbon in 1952. She stayed at home to care for the kids until 1957 when they moved to town. She worked at Goodman's Produce, the Gibbon High School as a librarian through the Green Thumb program, and cleaned the school and the State Bank of Gibbon. She loved to camp around the state of Minnesota. Pearl was once a president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Gibbon and took care of the poppies. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.

Lenore Vetter, 83, formerly of 718 Fourth North in New Ulm, died Monday, March 1, 2004, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father John A. Richter celebrating. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, and 7:30-10 a.m., Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid will pray the rosary at 5:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. both Wednesday at the funeral home.
Lenore is survived by her sisters, Lorraine Vetter of New Ulm, Lucille Vetter Bethune of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; a niece, Mary Bethune-Conard and her husband, Pat Conard of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; nephews, Michael Bethune and his wife, Tami of Novi, Michigan, William Bethune of Chehalis, Washington, Stephen Bethune of Klamath Falls, Oregon; and great-nieces, Laura Bethune and Shelley Bethune both of Novi, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Gordon T. Bethune.
Lenore G. Vetter was born on May 30, 1920 in New Ulm to Ben I. and Clara (Wiesner) Vetter. She attended St. Theresa's College in Minneapolis and later attended business college in Minneapolis and St. Paul. She worked as a civilian at the Minnesota National Guard Armory in New Ulm. Her position with the Guards was titled "Brown County Veterans Selective Service Clerk." She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the St. Elizabeth's Catholic Aid Council.

Karen Kastner of Comfrey, MN, died on March 1, 2004.
Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5th, with a time of remembrance and prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will be a Rosary on Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m. at the church followed by one hour of visitation.
The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Comfrey with burial following in the Catholic Cemetery.
Karen was born in Coal City, Illinois, on April 11, 1949, to Armella (Krzmarzick) and Alton Kastner. Following graduation from high school, she attended Mankato University and worked for twenty years for the Santa Fe Railroad in Chicago, occasionally serving as an engineer. In 1980, she moved to her great-grandparent's homestead in Mulligan Township near Comfrey. She worked at AUI in Sleepy Eye until 1994. Karen lived on the homestead until her death.
She enjoyed reading (mysteries and world history),gardening, collecting antiques, auctions, and her cats, especially Boots, Spike, Bentley, Callie and Paint.
Karen also enjoyed visiting with her friends, using the e-mail, shopping and eating out -- especially Chinese food or sauerkraut.
Karen is survived by her aunt and uncle, Rosella (Kastner) and Ed Kroenke, several cousins and many good friends. She will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
The family prefers memorials to the donor's choice in lieu of flowers.
Clergy will be Father Todd Peterson, Sister Sharon Nohner.

Oliver Anderson, 89, of Sleepy Eye, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at the Sleepy Eye Hospital.
Funeral service is 11 a.m., Friday, March 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church with burial in Home Cemetery.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m., Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by a son Don of Sleepy Eye; daughter Debbie Wright of Lakeville; brothers, Milford of Westbrook and Vernon of Le Sueur; sister, Leone Arfsten of Annandale; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was born April 25, 1914, in Westbrook, Minn., to Oscar and Edith (Sager) Anderson.

Velma Zempel, 89, of Morgan, died Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan.
Services are 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 8, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Morgan with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Eden Township.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Sunday, at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Morgan and continues one hour before the service Monday at the church.
She is survived by husband VIctor Zempel or Morgan; and sister Lorna Kleinschmidt of Morgan.
She was born July 12, 1914, in Morgan to Herman and Mathilda (Otto) Steinhause.

Marvin Loffelmacher, 69, of rural Fairfax died Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at the Glencoe Regional Hospital in Glencoe.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Gibbon.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday and from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon.
Marvin is survived by his longtime special friend, Linda Johnson of Fairfax; a brother, Arnold Loffelmacher of Seattle, Washington; cousins, Karen Dahl of Chisago City, and Harold Loffelmacher Jr. of Minneapolis; and by many friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leonard Loffelmacher; his uncles; and a favorite aunt, Emma Winkelman
Marvin was born on May 27, 1934 on the family farm to John and Nellie (Smith) Loffelmacher. He attended Ridgely Township country school and continued living in Ridgely Township all his life. Along with going to auctions, he enjoyed polka music since his uncle was Harold Loffelmacher, whose band, The Six Fat Dutchmen, played the popular tunes of that time. Marvin also enjoyed watching movies, Hopalong Cassidy, and the Three Stooges. He was a memeber of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon.

Verna D. Gould, 87, of Springfield, died Friday, March 5, 2004 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, and 7:30 a.m.-noon Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service.
Service will be held at United Methodist Church - Springfield, on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. The Clergy will be Pastor Elaine Foote-Blum. Interment will be in Springfield City Cemetery

Verna D. Cook was born on August 28, 1916 in Stearns County, MN the daughter of James Ira and Evalena (Elwood) Cook. She grew near Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1935. She then attended Lee's Barber and Beauty College in St. Paul, MN. Verna moved to New Ulm where she owned and operated Blossom's Beauty Salon from 1938 until 1950. She was united in marriage on September 14, 1950 in Grove Lake, MN to Victor Gould. The couple made their home in North Star Township near Springfield where they farmed for many years. Victor preceded her in death in 1979 and Verna remained on the farm until the present time. She was an active member of the United Methodist church in Springfield. She enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, raising house plants, especially violets, and reading. Her favorite topics included religion, science, politics and holistic medicine.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary and husband Glen Ellison of Springfield and their children, Emily and James, and Vicki and husband Kevin Kanne of Faribault and their children Kathleen and Kenneth, brothers, Joe and wife Darlene Cook of Hibbing and Harlan and wife Doris Cook of Glenwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, daughter in infancy and sisters, Inez Zschunke and June Blum.

Hildur Henke, 97, of Fairfax, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, at the Swedlanda Lutheran Church, rural Hector, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Arrangements are with the Hughes Funeral Home in Hector.
Hildur Josephine Christine Henke was born September 2, 1906, in Martinsburg
Township, Renville County, to Oscar and Emma (Olson) Sandgren.
Hildur is survived by her brother Elmer Sandgren of Lenexa, Kansas.

Vera I. Weldy, 95, of Fairfax, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. Interment will be in Fort Ridgely Cemetery in Ridgely Township, Nicollet County.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday and 7:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Tuesday.
Vera Ione (LaFramboise) Weldy was born November 17, 1908, to William D. and Maude (Bundy) LaFramboise in Ridgely Twp, Nicollet Co., MN. Vera was a great-granddaughter of French fur trader and interpreter Joseph LaFramboise and a granddaughter of pioneer farmer William R. LaFramboise.
Vera attended Ft. Ridgely country school and graduated from Fairfax High School in 1925. She attended Brandrup Commercial College in Mankato and was employed as a bookkeeper/stenographer for Dickmeyer Motor Company in Fairfax from 1927 until 1931; then for the State Bank of Storden from 1932 until 1934; and finally as a legal secretary for attorney Fred Gage in Fairfax, until her marriage.
Vera was united in marriage to Lyle F. Weldy on August 18, 1935. The couple resided and farmed in Ridgely Twp., until retirement. They shared 47 years of marriage before Lyle passed away on February 7, 1983. Vera continued living on the home farm until entering the Sleepy Eye nursing home in 1991. She became a resident at the Fairfax Community Home on October 16, 1992.
Vera was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, where she was active with the United Methodist Women group. She was also a member and leader of the Ridgely Twp. Extension service homemakers group, a 4-H leader and a volunteer leader of crafts groups, at the Fairfax Community Home. She was an accomplished pianist and was also a master of the art of crochet works, which she continued into her 90s.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Blanche; two infant brothers; and son-in-law, Eugene Kramer.
Vera is survived by her sons, Floyd Weldy of Fairfax, Jerry Weldy of Franklin, Clellan Weldy and Craig Weldy, both of Fairfax; daughters, Rita Kramer Joerg and her husband, David, of Preston, MN and Diane Arndt and her husband, David of Fairfax; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Agnes Gayer, 101, of Gaylord, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Funeral services will be held, on Thursday, March 11, at 11 a.m., at the Egesdal Funeral Home, in Gaylord with interment, in the Gaylord Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, at the Egesdal Funeral Home. Clergy officiating is John Guttermann
Agnes Emma Huedina (Timm) Gayer was born on March 4, 1903, in Gaylord, to Julius and Ida Timm. She graduated from Gaylord High School, in 1922. She then taught school in Dryden Township for many years. Agnes was united in marriage to Clifford Gayer on September 6, 1941, in Minneapolis. After Agnes and Clifford were married, they lived in Minneapolis, during World War II, and then moved to Janesville. In 1948, they moved to rural Hanska, where they operated the Linden Store. In 1961, they moved to Gaylord where Agnes worked as a clerk for the Busch Brothers Variety Store. In 1970, she retired, but continued to work on a part-time basis, until 1975. When Agnes needed assistance with her daily care, she entered the Gaylord Lakeview Home.
Agnes was a member of the United Church of Christ in Gaylord. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and playing cards.
Agnes is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ida Timm; husband, Clifford Gayer; sisters, Myrtle Muchow, Mayme Peterson and Laura Wopsock; and brothers, Fred Timm and John Timm.
Agnes is survived by her son John Gayer, and his wife Judy of Phoenix, AZ; grandson, Kris Gayer of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Kelly Gayer of Phoenix, AZ, and many other relatives and friends.

Arlene Kuehner, 81, of Minnetonka, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at her home.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 9201 Normandale Blvd., Bloomington, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
There will be visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.
Arlene Antramian was born September 1, 1922 in Kenosha, WI. She married Dr. George Kuehner on August 17, 1951 in Winthrop. They made their home in New Ulm for many years where Arlene was active in community activities and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. The couple moved to Minnetonka in 1999.
Survivors include her husband; son, George Kuehner, Jr. and his wife Audrea of Shoreview; daughter, Kathy Kuehner of Minnetonka; grandchildren, Allison and Brian Kuehner; sisters, Elsie Pelsley of Milwaukee, WI, Virginia Antramian of Belflower, CA, and Veronica Gardner of Castro Valley, CA.
The family prefers memorials for the New Ulm arrangements.
