Frances A. Hoeneke, 92, a resident of the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Pastor Wayne Laitinen will officiate.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Monday and 7:30-8:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Tuesday.
Frances is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Thekla and James Schneider of Watertown, Wisconsin, Carla and James Koeppen of Rosemount, Mona and Russell Vitale of Monroe, Michigan; eight grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland Hoeneke on June 23, 1995; five sisters; and three brothers.
Frances was born January 4, 1912, in Salt Lake City, Utah to William and Augusta (Schultz) Redeker. She was a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther High School and Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm. She married Roland Hoeneke on July 3, 1937 in New Ulm. She taught school in New London, Saginaw, Michigan, and at St. Paul's Lutheran School in New Ulm. She also worked at Pink's and Ehler's Clothing Stores in New Ulm. She was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and a member of the Ladies Aid at St. John's.

Bertha Jacoby, 87, of Springfield, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
Service is 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church. The clergy will be Father Dennis Labat. Interment is Wednesday, April 7 in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Clements.
Visitation is Tuesday, April 6, from 4-8 p.m. and 7:30-10 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at Sturm Funeral Home in Springfield. There will be a parish prayer service Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include her children, Robert and wife Kathy Jacoby of Burnsville, MN, Stephen and wife Deanna Jacoby of Redding, CA, Rose Marie and husband Jan Legaard of Arvada, CO, Beatrice Babbitt of Henderson, NV, Jerry and wife Mary Jacoby of Springfield; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph and wife Lois Berg of North Mankato, MN, Nicholas and wife Marge Berg of Rapid City, SD; sisters, Agnes Scarbrough of Sun City, AZ, Francis and husband Stan Manderfeld of New Ulm, Alice and husband Norman Groebner of New Ulm, Lucille Lewey of Fountain Valley, CA, Catherine and husband Ralph Leemhuis of Watertown, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Adolphus in 1973; brother, Harold Berg; and sister, Margaret Jutz.
Bertha Mary Jacoby was born November 12, 1916, in Sleepy Eye, MN, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (Soukup) Berg. She moved with her family as a young girl to Sanborn, MN and attended Sanborn High School. Bertha was united in marriage to Adolphus Jacoby on November 9, 1937, in Sanborn. They farmed in Sundown Township and following Adolphus' death in 1973, Bertha continued to live on the farm site for a total of 67 years. She was a former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Clements, Christian Mothers, Catholic Aid and the St. Joseph's Quilting Group. Bertha was a current member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church and was also active in Extension Club, Farm Bureau and working with charities. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, needlepoint, crocheting and tent camping. She especially cherished her good friends.

Albert Kuphal, 67, of Gaylord, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Services are 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at the church.
Egesdal Funeral Home handled arrangements.
He is survived by wife Lorna Kuphal of Gaylord; sons, Brian Kuphal of Gaylord, Ronald Kuphal of Gaylord, Brent Kuphal of Plymouth; daughters, Peggy Kuphal of Arlington, Terry Trisko of Melrose, Rhonda St. John of Arlington; brothers, Marvin Kuphal of Gaylord, Sidney Kuphal of Gaylord, Karl Kuphal of Gaylord, Martin Jr Kuphal of Gaylord; sisters, Delores Swanson of Winthrop, Doris Martens of Gaylord; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was born June 27, 1936, in Gaylord, to Martin and Esther (Podratz) Kuphal.

Kenneth Pettis, 61, of Winthrop, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Thursday, April 8, at Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Lafayette. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m., Wednesday; and 7:30­8:30 a.m., Thursday, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop; and continues one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Thursday.

Robert B. Runck, 83, of New Ulm, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Reverend Joyce Tollefson-Capp officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the New Ulm veterans organizations will follow in New Ulm City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 -8 p.m. Tuesday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to service at the church.
Robert Bruce Runck, the son of Robert and Ada (Current) Runck was born August 31, 1920 on the family farm in Milford Township.
He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1938 and was a member of the original FFA group at New Ulm High School. Bob farmed until entering the United States Army in 1942, serving in the European Theatre during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to farm the home place. Utilizing the new GI Bill, Bob learned to fly and obtained his pilot's license.
He was united in marriage to Helen Prahl on April 5, 1951, in the former Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eden Township near Morgan. Together they continued operating the home farm in Milford Township. He also worked for 3M in New Ulm from 1968 until 1980. Bob served on the District #186 School Board and New Ulm Telecom Board of Directors and was a member of the Brown County REA Board for 33 years. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 132, and Charity Lodge #98 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed traveling, bears, and coffee with the boys at DJ's.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, Rae and Kathy Runck and grandchildren Daniel and Briana of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Tom Kinate and grandson Ryan of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, LuAnn Runck and son James Runck both of Minneapolis; sisters, Elinor Lee of New Ulm, Ruth Wilfahrt and her husband Leo of New Ulm; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, Roman and Louis Runck; and a sister, Lola Glas.

Curtis A. Larson, formerly of New Ulm, died Sunday, April 4 at a Brainerd hospital.
Services are 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 7 at Brenny Funeral Chapel, Crosslake. Visitation is Wednesday at the funeral home, 30 minutes prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife Dona; children Gail Larson of Fridley and David of Eagan; a sister, Beverly Lane of Excelsior; and six grandchildren.

Francis Murphy, 87, of Fairfax, died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax.
Francis is survived by his wife, Catherine Murphy of Fairfax; sons, Patrick Murphy of Fargo, N.D., Robert Murphy of Winthrop, Leo Murphy of Hector and Dennis Murphy of Fairfax; daughters, Margaret Kiecker of Fairfax, Colleen Blanks of Greeley, Colo., Alice Fischer of Lake Lillian, Karen Murphy of Golden Valley, Veronica Murphy of Minneapolis, Virginia Murphy Cassidy of Eyota, Gail Reiffer of Swanville, Lisa Murphy of St. Paul; 27 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
Francis G. Murphy was born Nov. 16, 1916, in Wellington Township, Renville County, to Thomas F. and Anne (Coleman) Murphy.

Kenneth Pettis, 61, of Winthrop, passed away on Monday, April 5, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., at Bernadotte Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00­8:00 p.m., on Wednesday, and from 7:30­8:30 a.m. on Thursday, at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Thursday.
Kenneth Andrew Pettis was born May 4, 1942 in New Ulm, MN to Wallace Morgus and Violet (Bowman) Pettis. Kenneth was baptized as an infant at Clear Lake Lutheran Church, in Gibbon, MN, and was confirmed as a youth in 1956 at Augustana Lutheran Church, in Gibbon. He attended Gibbon High School.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Bonderson on November 17, 1962, at Bernadotte Lutheran Church. Upon marriage, Kenneth and Barbara established a dairy herd and farmed south of Winthrop for more than forty years. In addition to dairy farming, Kenneth hauled peas and sweet corn for Green Giant, measured land for the ASCS, and worked at the Lafayette Farmers Co-op. He also did truck driving for various companies.
Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Bernadotte Lutheran Church, where he was a past member of the church council. He also served on the board of Bernadotte Cold Storage for many years.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; many uncles and aunts; sister-in-law, Lois Lange; and brothers-in-law, Ray Gene Lange and Carl Bonderson.
Kenneth is survived by his: wife, Barbara Pettis of Winthrop, MN; sons, Glen Pettis and his wife, Jeanne of Courtland, MN and Brian Pettis of Winthrop, MN; daughter, Kristi Pettis of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter, Amanda Pettis of Courtland, MN; brother, Bruce Pettis and his wife, Cindy of St. Paul, MN; sister, June Kammerlander of Lafayette, MN; brothers-in-law, John Bonderson and his wife, Helen of Winthrop, MN and Lyle Bonderson of Arlington, MN; sisters-in-law, Betty Pomplum and her husband, Earl, of Arlington, MN and Cheryl Bonderson of Hastings, MN; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Arlene Schmiesing, 90, of Madelia and formerly of Hanska and Godahl, died, Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Funeral services are 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Arrangements are handled by Pilgrim Funeral Home in Madelia,
Survivors include sons Roger of St. James, Erling of Waterloo, Iowa, and Michael of Stillwater; daughter Julie Carey of Madelia; 13 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Smila Lee of Minneapolis, Mildred Botten of New Ulm, Orphy Bright of Minneapolis and Bernice Becken of Hanska.
She was born May 24, 1913, in Brown County, to Andrew and Julia (Ouren) Vee.
Lucille Simon,71, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.

Emily Totman, 89 of Winthrop, MN, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center, in Winthrop.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 10, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., at Faith United Church in Winthrop, MN.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m., and will continue Saturday from 7:30-11:00 a.m., at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop.
Visitation will continue one hour prior to the time of services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Emily (Kober) Totman was born April 12, 1914 in Sheboygan, WI. She was the daughter of Gottfried and Rose (Brack) Kober. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, WI. She attended parochial school through 7th grade. In 1927, the family moved to a farm in the Gaylord and Winthrop areas. She attended and graduated from District #46 school. After graduating, Emily did housework for several families in the area.
Emily was united in marriage to Harold W. Totman on April 3, 1938, at the Brighton Methodist parsonage by Rev. Gerhard Hyealmas. After Harold and Emily were married, they farmed in the Winthrop and Gibbon areas until December 1966, when they retired and moved into Winthrop. Emily worked as a sewing machine operator for Fingerhut for 13 years and Hands, Inc. for 11 years. She retired from Hands in 1987. Harold passed away on December 12, 1985.
She was an active member of Faith United Church and Ladies Society. Emily loved spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, and making many quilts.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Gottfried and Rose Kober; husband, Harold; one-month old Daughter, Kathleen; grandson, Phillip Totman; and brothers, Chris Kober and Gottlieb Kober.
Emily is survived by her sons, Harvey W. Totman and his wife, LaAnna of Fairfax, MN, Roger C. Totman and his wife, Monica of Mankato, MN; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Carlson, and her husband Gordon of Morgan, MN; brothers, John Kober and his wife, Shirley of Sheboygan, WI and Gottfried Kober of St. Paul, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth Kober of Virginia, MN; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
