Alton H. Ulrich
July 24, 1924–Nov. 4, 2000

Alton H. Ulrich, 76, a well-known Audubon area resident, died Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Rev. Ernest Geistfeld officiated at the funeral, with interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. The David-Donehower Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Alton Henry Carl Ulrich, son of Bill and Marie Rodewald Ulrich, was born at New Ulm on July 24, 1924.
He spent his childhood in Redwood Falls, attended the West Central Agricultural College in Morris and served with the U. S. Navy during World War II.
On Oct. 17, 1948, Mr. Ulrich and Hazel Ann Peterson were married in Audubon.
They farmed north of Audubon for eight years and then moved into Audubon.
Mr. Ulrich was employed at the Audubon Co-Operative Elevator, Kaiser Construction, Haukedahl Trucking and Audubon Engineering until retiring at the age of 70.
Over the years, he served with the Audubon Law Enforcement agency, served 10 years on the Audubon School Board, was a member and was involved in activities of the Audubon Boosters Club and belonged to the Cormorant Lakes Sportsman’s Club and American Legion Post No. 339 of Audubon.
He enjoyed gardening, athletic activities, was a volunteer for Audubon High School sports programs and coached girls’ softball.
Due to ill health, he moved to Emmanuel Nursing Home this past February.
Surviving are his wife–Hazel, Audubon; two sons–Harlen, Morris, and Terry (Lisa), Watertown, S. D.; two daughters–Andrea (Dave) Maddox, Delta, Ala., and Melanie (Steve) Becker, Woodlands, Tex.; five brothers–Melvin (Irene), Fergus Falls; Stan, Buzzards Bay, Mass.; Vernon (Susan), Canyon City, Colo.; Wayne (Carol), Minneapolis, and Carl, Soldotna, Alaska, and four sisters–Yvonne (David) Seaberg, and Iris (Marvin) Johnson, both of Detroit Lakes; Verona (Kenneth) Poolman, Warren, and Naomi (Curtis) Elton, Anchorage, Alaska. There are 11 grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Ulrich in death were his parents and two sisters (Elaine Ulrich and Dorothy Wallace).

Lawrence H. Hendrickson
Nov. 23, 1913–Nov. 5, 2000

Lawrence H. Hendrickson, 86, a resident of the Audubon area for most of his life, died at his home on Sunday, Nov. 5.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, from First Lutheran Church of Audubon.
Rev. James Armstrong will officiate at the funeral, Farey Inget will be the soloist and the pianist will be Nancy Koerner.
Interment will be at the church Cemetery, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be George Soule, Bradley Grant, Glen Holmgren, Bruce Hein, Amer Froysland and Sanford Haugen.
Members and past members of the Audubon Fire Department will be the honorary pallbearers.
Lawrence Hendrickson, son of John and Paulina Berger Hendrickson, was born near Audubon on Nov. 23, 1913.
He spent his school years in Michigan, then returned to Audubon and worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps.
During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army Signal Corps and spent 36 months on duty in Europe.
Upon receiving his discharge, he returned to Audubon and worked as a buttermaker at the Audubon Co-Operative Creamery.
On Oct. 12, 1946, Mr. Hendrickson and Mildred Kuhlemeyer were married in Vergas.
Mr. Hendrickson was manager of the Audubon Telephone Co. until retiring in 1978.
Active in civic and community affairs, he served for many years as the Audubon city clerk and was the Audubon Village Santa for 21 years.
He served on the Audubon Fire Department, was a member of the Audubon School Board, was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and sang with the Detroit Lakes Skipper Chorus.
In addition, Mr. Hendrickson belonged to the Izaak Walton League and to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6033 of Audubon.
Surviving are his wife–Mildred, and three sons–Clark (Anita), Thief River Falls; Dr. Paul, Frazee, and Dean, Audubon. There are two grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Nov. 8, 4-7 p.m., David-Donehower Funeral Home. Also one hour prior to funeral on Thursday at First Lutheran Church of Audubon.

Ellen Muhle
Feb. 19, 1926–Nov. 4, 2000
Ellen Muhle, 74, died Saturday, Nov. 4, at her home in Lake Park.
Rites will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park.
Fr. Bernard Friedl will officiate at the funeral, Deb Binde will be the organist and the St. Francis Xavier Church Choir will provide vocal music.
Interment will be at the church Cemetery, with the Vigen-Wright Funeral Home of Lake Park in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Tanya Bergman, Tara Bergman, Todd Bergman, Tim Bergman, Tom Bergman, Noal Ronken and Evan Ronken.
Nieces and nephews will be the honorary pallbearers.
Ellen Gebeke, daughter of Wallace and Margaret Bahl Gebeke, was born Feb. 19, 1926, near West Fargo and married Harold “Mike” Muhle in Fargo on Aug. 10, 1955.
They lived in Fargo until moving to Glyndon in 1961 and moved to Lake Park in 1971.
Mrs. Muhle worked at the Kretzky Department Store toy department in Fargo for 10 years, at the Hill Bar in Glyndon for two years and at the Lake Park Liquor Store for eight years. In addition, she provided daycare in her home for many years and, most recently, was employed at TLC Floral in Detroit Lakes.
Surviving are her husband–Harold “Mike” Muhle, Lake Park; a brother–DuWayne (Jean) Gebeke, Pick City, N. D., and a sister–Betty (Walt) Hanson, Spring Lake Park. There are many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Wednesday, Nov. 8, 5-7 p.m., Vigen-Wright Funeral Home in Lake Park, with prayer service at 7. Also one hour prior to funeral Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Lois Y, St. Claire
May 26, 1926–Nov. 4, 2000

Lois Y. St. Claire, 74, died Saturday, Nov. 4, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, from the Korsmo Chapel in Moorhead.
Interment will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Ulen, with the Korsmo Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lois Yvonne Hellem, daughter of Einar and Mabel Johnson Hellem, was born at Detroit Lakes on May 26, 1926.
She moved with her family to Moorhead as an infant, where she grew up and attended school and then worked for an insurance agency in Fargo for two years.
On Jan. 6, 1945, she and Gordon St. Claire were married in St. Augustine, Fla.
They made their home in Fargo until moving to Minneapolis in 1952 and later lived in Dickinson, N. D., and then moved to Detroit Lakes in 1982.
Mrs. St. Claire enjoyed cooking and baking.
Surviving are her husband–Gordon; two daughters–Reni Ehlen, Two Harbors, and Rochelle St. Claire, Treasure Island, Fla.; a sister–Lavina Melbye Moorhead, and three brothers–Kermit (Laura) Hellem, North Branch; Merle (Romae) Hellum, Youngstown, Ariz., and Laverne (Helen) Hellem, Garrison, N. D. There are five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. St. Claire in death were her parents and two sisters (Helen and Ruby).
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral at Korsmo Chapel in Moorhead.

Margie V. Lachowitze.
Nov. 10, 1923–Nov. 4, 2000

There was a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from the West-Kjos Chapel in Detroit Lakes for Margie V. Lachowitzer.
Mrs. Lachowitzer died at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center on Saturday, Nov. 4.
Rev. Michael Wolters officiated at the service, Vicki Marthaler was the organist and the soloist was Kim Schnitzer.
Interment was at the Loon Lake Cemetery at rural Vergas, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Margie Viola Sleen, daughter of Arnold and Gilma Nettestad Sleen, was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Erhard’s Grove Township of Otter Tail County (near Pelican Rapids), attended School District No. 87 and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School (Class of 1940).
She graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1942 and taught at school districts 121, 149 and 80 located between Vergas and Detroit Lakes.
During World War II, she worked in a munitions factory in Little Rock, Ark., and married Warren Wallace on July 2, 1944. They farmed near Vergas until Mr. Wallace died in 1960.
She and Walter Lachowitzer were married in the fall of 1963 and farmed near Vergas. Mr. Lachowitzer died in 1981 and she remained living on the farm until moving to the Vergas Assisted Living Center in August, 1999. She entered St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in October of this year.
Mrs. Lachowitzer enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, bird watching and travel.
Surviving are four children–Joanne Wallace, Two Harbors; Lee Wallace, Rothsay; Dell (Mary) Wallace, Vergas, and Glen (Jessie) Lachowitzer, Abilene, Tex.; a brother–Gordon Sleen, Pelican Rapids, and two sisters–Joan (Alvin) Glawe, Vergas, and Nancy Johnson, Aurora. There are three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister (Luella Erickson).

Terry Lee Monson
Dec. 27, 1952–Oct. 31, 2000

Terry Lee Monson, 47, died at the Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colo., on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
There was a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, from Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fargo.
Interment was at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo.
Terry Lee Monson, son of Walter and Bonnie Monson, was born in Fargo on Dec. 27, 1952.
He graduated from Fargo South High School (Class of 1970), from Concordia College in Moorhead (Class of 1974), worked for United Auto Parts in Fargo and then owned and operated Speedway Hobby in Fargo.
Mr. Monson moved to Denver in 1933, where he was employed with Insurance Shopping Network.
Surviving are his mother and step-father–Bonnie and Dennis Munson, Lake Park; a brother–Tom (Rachel) Monson, Fargo; two sisters–Sue (Timothy) Smith, Atlanta, Ga., and Janet (Ronald) Hanson, Littleton, Colo., and three step-sisters–Debbie (Gary) Bolgrean, Moorhead; Jeanette (Larry) Selseth, Hillsboro, Ore.; Cheryl (Terry) Schnepp, Cornelius, Ore., and Cheryl (Terry) Schnepp, Cornelius, Ore. There is one niece, three nephews and a grand-nephew.
