Andrew L. Roberts
Jan. 2, 1943–Dec. 1, 2000
There was a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Audubon, for Andrew L. Roberts.
Mr. Roberts, 57, died at the Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home in Walker on Friday, Dec. 1.
Rev. Wes Haugen officiated at the service, Audrey Savig was the organist and the soloist was Farey Enget.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Andrew L. Roberts, son of Gordon and Dorothy Roberts, was born Jan. 2, 1943, in Des Moines, Ia.
He grew up and attended school in Cedar Rapids, Ia., moved with his parents to Detroit Lakes in 1970 and had been a resident of the nursing home for the past six years. He never married.
Surviving are his mother–Dorothy Roberts, Detroit Lakes; a brother–Eugene McCombs, Des Moines, Ia., and three sisters–Louise Johnson, Omaha, Nebr.; Molly Hawkins, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Linda Rhoads, Winterset, Ia.
His father died in 1993.

Donald R. Lund
June 18, 1912–Dec. 1, 2000
Donald R. Lund, 88, died Friday, Dec. 1, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center, where he had been a resident since September.
There was a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from First Lutheran Church in Audubon.
Rev. James Kegel officiated at the service, Janice Myhre was the organist and the soloist was DeWayne Myhre.
The West-Kjos Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Donald R. Lund, son of Nels and Christina Lund, was born at Hallock in June 18, 1912.
He grew up at Hallock, graduated from Hallock High School and then attended the University of North Dakota for two years.
Mr. Lund moved to Drayton, N. D., in 1935, owned and operated the creamery and married Avis Leva at Drayton on May 5, 1936.
They moved from Drayton to Grand Forks, N. D., in 1955, where he worked for Valley Creamery in East Grand Forks, moved to Minneapolis in 1966, to Thief River Falls in 1971 and then to Audubon in 1977, where they lived for 20 years. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1997.
During the years they lived in Audubon, they spent the winter months in Texas.
A longtime member of the Eagles, Mr. Lund enjoyed woodworking in retirement.
Surviving are his wife–Avis; three sons–Dwight (Lynne) and Kent (Joan), both Detroit Lakes, and Rodney, Las Vegas, Nev., and two daughters–Gracia (John) Jachel, Sacramento, Calif., and Virginia (Charles) Norberg, Des Moines, Ia. There are seven grandchildren and four greast-grandchildren.
His parents and a brother (Arthur) preceded Mr. Lund in death.

Mary Ann Parkhoue
June 26, 1937–Dec. 4, 2000
Mary Ann Parkhouse, 63, a former Fargo resident, died at her home in Mission, Tex., on Monday, Dec. 4.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, from the Augustana Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes.
Interment will be at the Horace Lutheran Cemetery at Horace, N. D., with the Boulger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mary Ann Barnes, daughter of Hamilton and Adelaide Barnes, was born at Fargo on June 26, 1937, grew up and attended school at West Fargo and later attended the Dakota Business College for two years.
She owned and operated the Powerhouse Bar at Rothsay until retiring in 1994.
A member of the West Fargo Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Rothsay Lions Club, she wintered in Texas. She enjoyed cooking.
Surviving are a special friend–Keith Stevens; her mother–Adelaide Barnes, West Fargo; a daughter–Tammie (David) Strebig, West Fargo, and two sons–Allen Jensen, Detroit Lakes, and Greg Johnson, West Fargo. There are two granddaughters.
Preceding her in death was her father.
Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 7, 5-7 p.m., Boulger Funeral Home, with prayer service at 7.

Joseph A. Carlisle
Aug. 15, 1911–Dec. 4, 2000
Joseph A. Carlisle, 89, a longtime Detroit Lakes area resident, died Monday, Dec. 4, at Emmanuel Nursing Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, from Trinity Lutheran Church.
Rev. Ken Vollmers will officiate at the funeral, Pat Benson will be the organist and the soloists will be Troy Ulschmid and Jason Carlisle.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Grandchildren will be the honorary pallbearers.
Joseph Allen Carlisle, son of Allen and Alice McPhillips Carlisle, was born Aug. 15, 1911, at Alexandria.
He moved with his family at a young age to Dilworth, became a policeman at Dilworth and later moved to Detroit Lakes.
On Oct. 16, 1940, Mr. Carlisle and Verna Tommerdahl were married in Detroit Lakes.
While in Detroit Lakes, he was employed by the Addison-Miller Ice Co. and then joined the Becker County Sand and Gravel Co in 1946, which later was purchased by the Hallet Construction Co. He retired in 1973.
Mr. Carlisle enjoyed auction sales, demolishing old buildings, collecting antiques, woodworking and–upon retiring–became an auctioneer.
Surviving are his wife–Verna, Detroit Lakes; five sons–Ken (Betty) and Terry (Betty), both Detroit Lakes; Orville "Fuzz" (Darlene), Frazee; Curt (Darlene), Hector, and Myron (Marie), Mapleton, N. D., and two daughters–Cheryl (Larry) Olson, Detroit Lakes, and Pat (Jack) Burzette, Salome, Ariz. There are 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Carlisle in death were his parents, eight brothers and five sisters.
Visitation: Friday, Dec. 8, 5-8 p.m., West-Kjos Funeral Home. Also one hour prior to funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Francis A. Curran
Jan. 18, 1910–Dec. 3, 2000
Francis A. Curran, 90, died at St. Mary’s Nursing Center on Sunday, Dec. 3.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating.
Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Forks, N. D., with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Grandchildren will be the pallbearers.
Francis A. Curran, son of Peter and Catherine Devine Curran, was born in Grand Forks, N. D., on Jan. 18, 1910.
He grew up near Grand Forks, graduated from St. James Academy at Grand Forks and then attended the University of North Dakota.
Mr. Curran farmed the family farm south of Grand Forks, also worked for Swingen Construction and then worked many years for Boeing in North Dakota and in Washington.
As a civilian, he was employed with the U. S. Navy in Bremerton, Wash., and in Hawaii.
Francis Curran and Ruth Karlstad were married at Grand Forks on Dec. 22, 1935.
Surviving are his wife–Ruth, Shorline, Wash.; a daughter–Yvonne (John) Jacobson, Detroit Lakes; two sons–Richard (Darlene) Curran, Mounds View, and Dean Curran, Grand Forks, and his extended family–Leo and Donna Naekel, Bothell, Wash. There are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a granddaughter, a sister and three brothers.
Visitation: Friday, Dec. 8, 6-8 p.m., West-Kjos Funeral Home, with prayer service at 7:30. Also one hour prior to funeral at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Margaret Lindblad Gardner
July 12, 1912–Nov. 7, 2000
Margaret Lindblad Gardner, 88, a native of Becker County, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Edmonds, Wash.
Margaret Lindblad, daughter of Anton and Mabel Lindblad, was born in Lake Eunice Township on July 12, 1912 and married Leonard Gardner on Feb. 26, 1938.
The Gardners moved to the Seattle, Wash., area in 1948.
Mrs. Gardner, who was known for her interest in family history, wrote stories about growing up in Minnesota and kept accurate records of the events in the lives of her family.
She always called Detroit Lakes her home and subscribed to the Detroit Lakes Newspapers all 52 years in which she lived in Washington.
Surviving are two daughters–Donna (Roger) Boe, Edmonds, Wash., and Janice Red. There are four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as nephews in the Detroit Lakes area.
Her parents, her husband, a brother (Harold Lindblad) and a sister (Beatrice Ortlepp) all preceded her in death.
Her grandparents included Conrad and Kate Miller and the Lindblads.
