Edward Austin
Sept. 7, 1922–Dec. 7, 2000
Services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, from the David-Donehower Chapel in Detroit Lakes for Edward L. "Bud" Austin.
Mr. Austin, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 7, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center.
The David-Donehower Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Edward L. Austin, son of Albert and Agnes Garnhardt Austin, was born at Sanborn on Sept. 7, 1922.
He grew up and attended school in Kansas City, Mo., graduated from high school there and served with the U. S. Navy during World War II and also during the Korean War.
Upon receiving his discharge from the armed forces, Mr. Austin attended college in Missouri and worked for the General Motors Corp. in California.
On March 17, 1962, he and Emily Lehto were married at Basin, Wyo.
Mr. Austin served as a hospital administrator for Lutheran Health Systems in Fargo from 1967-84. He retired in 1984 and they moved to Big Toad Lake and then moved into Detroit Lakes in 1995.
Surviving are his wife–Emily; two sons–Mark (Patty) Austin, West Yellowstone, Mont., and Terry (Margaret) Morrison, Bozeman, Mont.; two brothers–Robert (Pauline) Austin, Worland, Wyo., and Charles (Mary) Austin, Wildonar, Calif., and a sister–Helen (Jim) Tolley, Worland, Wyo. There are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a son (Charles).

Myrtle A. Butterfield
Sept. 12, 1910–Dec. 8, 2000
Myrtle A. Butterfield, 90, died at the Frazee Care Center on Friday, Dec. 8.
There was no funeral service, with interment made at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The David-Donehower Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Born at Mt. Healthy, Ohio, on Sept. 12, 1910, she lived most of her life in the area of Hamilton, Ohio.
She married Woodrow Butterfield in 1936 in Liberty, Ind., and they moved to Detroit Lakes in 1987.
Surviving are two sons–Ronald Clark, Ohio, and Donald (Eleanor), Clark, Dent, and a sister–Edna Baldridge, Ohio.
Preceding her in death were her husband (who died in 1988) and her parents.

Leone R. Stoner
April 30, 1901–Dec. 2, 2000
Leone R. Stoner, 99, who once taught in the Detroit Lakes Public Schools, died at her home in Rockford, Ill., on Saturday, Dec. 2.
There was no funeral service and her body was willed to science.
Leone Nagler, daughter of Frank and Rose Nagler, was born in Osceola, Wis., on April 30, 1901.
She graduated with honors from Carleton College in Northfield and taught freshman English and served as accompanist for the music department at Detroit Lakes High School for five years until moving to Belvidere, Ill., in 1927, where she was head of the English department in the high school.
Leone Nagler and Earl Ayers "Cy" Stoner were married on June 16, 1929. He died in 1971.
Mrs. Stoner was active in the Second Congregational Church, belonged to the Rockford Woman’s Club and also belonged to various other organizations. She enjoyed poetry, cats and bridge.
Surviving are two daughters–Susan (Robert) Beechner, Irvine, Calif., and Charlotte (George) Magnelia, Rockford. There are two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she also was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, two brothers and two sons-in-law.

Eileen J. Weirauch
Aug. 14, 1918–Dec. 13, 2000
Eileen J. Weirauch, the former Eileen Nybo, 82, died at the Homestead Nursing Home in Deer River on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
There will be a private family service at a future date.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, with the Rowe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Eileen J. Nybo, daughter of Anders and Ragna Nybo, was born Aug. 14, 1918, in Hope, N. D.
She grew up in Frazee, later moved to Detroit Lakes and married Leonard E. Weirauch in 1938.
They lived in Cudahy, Wis., during the 1940’s, then lived at Perham and Detroit Lakes before moving to Grand Rapids in 1954.
Mrs. Weirauch worked in the women’s clothing department of the J. C. Penney Co. and then managed the catalog department of the store until retiring in 1980.
The Weirauchs lived at Pokegama Lake until Mr. Weirauch died in 1989 and she later lived with a married daughter until moving to Manor House in 1999. She then became a resident of the Homestead Nursing Home.
Surviving are a daughter–Faye (Larry) Hawkinson, Bovey, along with three grandchildren. There are six great-grandchildren and 18 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Weirauch also was preceded in death by two brothers (Norris and Arne), a sister (Ione Gamble), a niece and a grandnephew.

Clarence E. Burnside
Nov. 7, 1926–Dec. 12, 2000
Services were at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, from the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes for Clarence E. Burnside.
Mr. Burnside, 74, a longtime employee of the City of Detroit Lakes until his retirement, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the hospital in Paynesville.
Interment was at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Clarence Edward Burnside, son of John Joseph and Sena Dwyre Burnside, was born at Hawley on Nov. 7, 1926.
He grew up at Hawley, attended rural school and Hawley High School and then farmed with his father.
Mr. Burnside later attended the Hanson Auto School in Fargo.
On July 25, 1951, he and Marianne Hoffman were married at Broadus, Mont., and he worked for the Schultz Garage and the Madison Silo Co. in Detroit Lakes.
Mr. Burnside began employment at the City of Detroit Lakes Light Plant in 1959 and continued working there until retiring in 1991.
A member of United Methodist Church, he also belonged to the Detroit Lakes Eagles Club and the International Boiler and Electrical Workers.
Surviving are his wife–Marianne, Detroit Lakes; a daughter–Jennifer (Chuck) McGrady, Lake Mills, Ia.; eight sons–Roger (Eileen), Anchorage, Alaska; Ron, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Randy (Mary), Jon (Christine), Alec (Bea) and Aaron (fiancee Lara), all of Detroit Lakes; Joe, Jefferson, N. Y., and Jeff, Audubon; four sisters–Marge (Arnold) Olson, Alice (John) Hoaglin and Mable (Bill) Cozine, all of Mesa, Ariz., and Doris (Elwood) Hendrickson, Hawley; two brothers–Lloyd (Ginger), Hawley, and Orvin (Clarice), Arden Hills, and a sister-in-law–Ethel Burnside, Hawley. There are 15 grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Burnside in death were his parents, a son (Ross, who died in 1957) and three brothers (Francis, who died in infancy, Frank and Russell).

Cornelia Hansen
Sept. 2, 1911–Dec. 8, 2000
Cornelia Hansen, 89, died at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen on Friday, Dec. 8.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ulen.
Rev. Jeff McCracken officiated at the funeral, Carol Lockhart was the organist and the soloist was Sue Anderson.
Interment was at North Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery, with the Anderson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Melanie Kjos, Sherri Schreiner, Marilyn Green, Julie Syverson, Kathy Wang, Diane Yarbrough and Angie Anderson.
Members of the Viking Manor Nursing Home staff were the honorary pallbearers.
Connie Melbye, daughter of Clarence and Julia Stende Melbye, was born Sept. 2, 1911, on a farm near Ulen, attended rural school in that area and later worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo.
She was employed at the Gardener Hotel in Fargo before moving to Seattle, Wash.
On Oct. 14, 1945, she and Butler Hansen were married in Seattle and then moved to Detroit Lakes, where they lived for two years.
They moved to a home east of Ulen and made their home there until moving into Ulen in 1969.
Mrs. Hansen worked in cooking and baking at Viking Manor Nursing Home until retiring in 1980.
Prior to moving into Ulen, she was a member of Atlanta Lutheran Church, was active in Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School. She joined Bethlehem Lutheran upon moving into Ulen. Mrs. Hansen enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, flowers and crocheting.
Surviving are a daughter–Diane (David) Syverson, Ulen, and a sister–Lorraine (Harold) Gregerson, Ulen. There are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband (who died Nov. 24, 1977), two sisters and two brothers.

Donald M. Theisen
Oct. 23,1923–Dec. 13, 2000
Donald M. Theisen, 77, a resident of Detroit Lakes the past 14 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 13, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Fr. Jerry Rogers officiated at the funeral and music was by the Holy Rosary Music Ministry.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Charles Gilbertson, Fred Kittelson, Gordon Gilbertson, Larry Peterson, Lawrence Gilbertson and Harold Anderson.
Donald M. Theisen, son of Nicholas and Elizabeth Loman Theisen, was born in St. Cloud on Oct. 23, 1923, and was the youngest of 13 children in the family.
He served with the U. S. Army (1941-45) and saw duty in the European Theatre during World War II.
Following the war, he became a carpenter. He and his wife (Constance, whom he married in 1956) lived in many parts of the United States.
His wife died in 1986 and he moved to the Detroit Lakes area after her death.
On Dec. 12, 1987, Mr. Thiesen and Thora Tienter were married in Princeton.
Mr. Theisen was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, John Bridges American Legion Post No. 15 and Jess-Omundson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1676. He also liked to oil paint.
Surviving are his wife–Thora, Detroit Lakes; two sons–David Theisen, Minneapolis, and Dale Theisen, Norfolk, Va.; three step-sons–Delmar Moench, Eden Valley; Gerald Moench, Aberdeen, S. D., and Jerry Moench, Austin, Tex.; two step-daughters–Arlene Topel, Princeton, and Ramona Bogart, Fort Worth, Tex.; a brother–Clem Theisen, Fargo, and a sister–Vi Norberg, Lake Oswego, Ore. There are many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he also was preceded in death by his parents.
