Wilfred A. DuChene
Jan. 14, 1934–Oct. 6, 2000
Rites were at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes for Wilfred A. DuChene.
Wilfred A. “Willie” DuChene, 66, died at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes on Friday, Oct. 6.
Fr. Jerry Rogers officiated at the funeral.
Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Callaway, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Brent Pearson, Danny Steffl, John Steffl, Kenny Sampson, Ron Sampson, John D. DuChene, Steve Stalboerger, Larry Schonhardt and Gary Schonhardt.
The honorary pallbearers included Walt Welle, David Foltz, Garman Sampson, Jim Matter, Lyle Raun, Jill Bellefeuille, Maggie Bellefeuille, Sally Bellefeuille, Michael Bellefeuille, Tyler Bellefeuille, Lauren DuChene, Nathan DuChene and Hunter DuChene.
Military rites were by Jess-Omundson Post No. 1676, the Detroit Lakes chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Wilfred A. DuChene, son of John and Mary Braun DuChene, was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Emmett, N. D.
He moved with his family to Callaway in 1936, where he was raised and attended school and served with the U. S. Marine Corps from 1954-57.
Upon receiving his discharge from the USMC, he returned to Callaway and–on June 21, 1958–married Alice Schonhardt at Waubun.
They farmed at rural Callaway and he also worked for the Tomlinson Lumber Co. in Callaway. Mr. DuChene retired from farming in 1978 and became a contractor for the Tomlinson Lumber Co. and later for Foltz Buildings.
An accident in 1992 forced his retirement and they moved to Detroit Lakes in 1994.
Surviving are his wife–Alice; three sons–Thomas (Tammy), Oklahoma City, Okla.; Dean (Kristi Jo), Detroit Lakes, and Rob (Traci), Brainerd; three daughters–Diane (Doug) Bellefeuille and Kristi (Paul) Bellefeuille, both Detroit Lakes, and Kimberly (Brian) Olson, Carver; two brothers–John H. (Margie), Ada, and Leonard, Callaway, and three sisters–Delores (Richard) Sampson, Mesa, Ariz.; Donna (Lynn) Kennely, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Rita (Ken) Pearson, Callaway. There are nine grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. DuChene in death were his parents and a sister (Alice).

Peter Kettle
Nov. 10, 1913–Oct. 7, 2000
Peter Kettle, 86, Ponsford, died Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, from Breck Memorial Episcopal Church in Ponsford.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Peter Kettle was born at Ponsford on Nov. 10, 1913, grew up there and attended country school.
He worked as a logger for a number of years, lived in the Fort Dodge, Iowa., area in the late 1960s and lived at Oklee in the early 1970s.
Mr. Kettle then moved back to Ponsford and had been a resident of the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home for the past three years.
Surviving are a number of great nieces and great nephews.

John Hersch
Sept. 18, 1934–Oct. 6, 2000
John Hersch, 66, Detroit Lakes, died Friday, Oct. 6, at the Frazee Care Center.
The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, from St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Casselton, N. D.
Fr. Al Bitz officiated at the funeral, Julie Davis was the organist and music was by the St. Leo’s Choir.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were Michael Hersch, Lynn Hersch, Gordon Wyland, Douglas Hersch, Lambert Hersch and Don Mergner.
John Hersch, son of Gideus and Dorothy Miller Hersch, was born at Shields, N. D., on Sept. 18, 1934.
He moved to the Amenia-Arthur area in North Dakota at the age of three and grew up and attended school there.
On July 1, 1954, Mr. Hersch and Janice Murdock were married at Casselton and farmed in the Amenia-Arthur area. They moved to Casselton in 1962, where he was employed for the Casselton Farmers Union Oil Co. and McDonalds Livestock of West Fargo. Due to his health, he took semi-retirement in 1974 and they moved to the Detroit Lakes area in 1977.
Surviving are his wife–Janice, Detroit Lakes; four sons–Eugene (Theresa), Fargo; Michael, Gardner, N. D.; Douglas J. (Diane), Harwood, N. D., and Lynn (Elizabeth), Simi Valley, Calif.; three daughters–Valerie (Chris) Gerdes, Detroit Lakes; Laurie (Ron) Ericson, Andover, and Beverly (Curt) Tougas, Lake Park; his mother–Dorothy, Arthur, N. D.; four brothers–Ray (Betty) Amenia, N. D.; Matt (Endiva), Colorado; Andy, Boxelder, S. D., and Alvin (Kim), Perham, and two sisters–Evelina Krumm, Billings, Mont., and Peggy Hersch, Fargo. There are 18 grandchildren.
Mr. Hersch was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, his father and a brother.

Leo G. Rader
Dec. 24, 1916–Oct. 7, 2000
Leo G. Rader, 83, Ponsford, died Saturday, Oct. 7, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman.
Rev. Arthur Ohlwine officiated at the funeral and Helen Laine was the organist.
Interment was at Mount Calvary Cemetery at Ponsford, with the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Lowell Sperling, Jeffrey Schmidt, Charles Bachmann, Roger Bachmann, LeRoy Bachmann and Jason Anderson.
Elmer Pihlaja, Marty Thiede, Dwayne Rader, Dennis Rader, Jeff Swenson and Lester Bachmann were honorary pallbearers.
Leo G. Rader, son of Ernest and Elizabeth Meyer Rader, was born in Evergreen Township of Becker County on Dec. 24, 1916, and moved with his family to the Ponsford Prairie in the winter of 1921.
The Rader family was engaged in farming; Leo attended the Andrews Country School and he helped out on the farm as a young man.
On March 30, 1944, Mr. Rader and Eunice M. Sperling were married at Ponsford.
They were involved in farming and Mr. Rader was known for his quality dairy cattle and sheep herds. He also refurbished Farmall tractors.
Mr. Rader helped build Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Ponsford and was active in the church until it closed in the late 1970s after which he became a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Snellman.
He enjoyed deer hunting.
Surviving are his wife–Eunice, and seven daughters–Kathleen (John) Pawlicki, Pine River; Linda Rader and Deborah (Bob) Strong, both Glyndon; Dr. Shirley Rader, Patricia (Larry) Anderson and Karen (Kevin) Miska, all of Fargo, and Kay (Carl) Sunram, Ponsford. There are seven grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, along with nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, a brother and a daughter (who died in infancy).

Juliette Stenerson
Jan. 17, 1906–Oct. 5, 2000
Juliette Stenerson, 94, died at the Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls on Thursday, Oct. 5.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with Rev. Robert Berthold officiating. Peter Nygaard was the organist.
Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Moorhead, with the Green Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Julie Stenerson-Chaffins, John Stenerson, Jay Stenerson, Leslie Stenerson, Penny Zmolek, Kandy Hagen, Stephen Hagen, Timothy Hagen, Nikki Bilz, Hillary Teie and Kimberly Huson.
Juliette Pauline Ostby, daughter of Christian and Bertha Skara Ostby, was born near McIntosh in Polk County on Jan., 17, 1906, grew up and attended school at McIntosh, graduated from high school in 1924 and attended a year of normal school. She taught country school at rural Eldred for a year and then moved to Moorhead, where she worked for the Clay County Clerk of Court.
On June 13, 1928, she and Gordon Stenerson were married at McIntosh and made their home at Borup until moving to Moorhead in 1946.
They moved to Fort Meyers Beach, Fla., in 1968 and spent the summers in Moorhead.
Mr. Stenerson died in June, 1980, and Mrs. Stenerson continued to live in Florida and in Moorhead until entering catered living at Eventide in 1994, where she lived for two years before moving to the nursing home in TRF in 1997.
Mrs. Stenerson was active in Lutheran church women’s organizations in Borup, Moorhead and Fort Meyers Beach and taught Sunday School in Borup and Moorhead. She also was active in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Choir at Fort Meyers Beach.
A charter member of the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, she continued to do volunteer work there until the age of 89. She also was a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross at the Veterans’ Hospital in Fargo for many years.
During retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling.
Surviving are a son–Robert (Georgiann) Stenerson, Moorhead, and two daughters–Linda (Karl) Hagen, Detroit Lakes, and Janet (Gordon) Peterson, Thief River Falls. There are 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and a special daughter–Janet Sparrow, Bismarck, N. D.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stenerson also was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters (Emily Stenerson and Mathilda Dale) and two brothers (Carl Ostby and Kalmer Ostby).

Shirley D. Lynch
March 30, 1929–Oct. 8, 2000
Shirley D. Lynch, 71, Detroit Lakes, died at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo on Sunday, Oct. 8.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from First Lutheran Church.
Rev. David Peterson officiated at the funeral, Randall Egan was the organist and the soloist was Janice Ramsey.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Shirley D. Forseth, daughter of Richard and Ruth Palm Forseth, was born at Grand Forks, N. D., on March 30, 1929.
She moved to Detroit Lakes as a young girl, attended school here and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1946).
Following high school graduation, she attended Moorhead State Teachers College, earned a degree in teaching, taught a year at Elbow Lake and taught for a year in Detroit Lakes.
On July 30, 1950, she and Donald Lynch were married in Detroit Lakes.
A member of First Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday School and adult education for many years.
Mrs. Lynch also was active in the Becker County Humane Society and enjoyed cooking, sewing and doing oil paintings.
Surviving are her husband–Donald, Detroit Lakes; a daughter–Laurie (Kurt) Fong, East Amherst, N. Y.; a son–Franz (Beverly), Moorhead; two brothers–William (Marge) Forseth, Bemidji, and Richard (Eleanor) Forseth, Mayville, N. D., and a sister–Arleen (Dale) Folger, Thief River Falls.
Preceding Mrs. Lynch in death were her parents.
