Arthur W. Niemann
Oct. 7, 1903–Oct. 10, 2000
Services were at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, from Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee for Arthur W. Niemann.
Mr. Niemann, 97, a longtime resident of the Perham-Frazee area, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, at the Frazee Care Center, where he had been a resident since 1997.
Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiated at the funeral, Shirley Fett was the soloist and Kathy Carlson was the organist.
Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee, with the Furey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were George Niemann, Mike Niemann, Kevin Niemann, Roy Ouart, Dan Radtke and Curtis Tollin.
Arthur W. Niemann, son of Herman and Louise Langemeier Niemann, was born near Hoople, Nebr., on Oct. 7, 1903.
He moved with his family to Perham in 1915 and–on Oct. 7, 1926–married Emma Breitenfeldt in Corliss Township of Otter Tail County.
They lived in Perham until moving to Frazee in 1933.
Mr. Niemann worked for Anderson Chevrolet (1933-39), Nagel Construction (1939-50) and the Daggett Truck Line (1950-68) and also worked part-time for many years for the Becker County Highway Department. He also was a member of the Frazee Fire Department and was a part-time member of the Frazee Police Department.
Surviving are two sons–Leland, Fargo, and Arthur Jr. (June), Victorsville, Calif.; two daughters–Darlene (Curtis) Tollin, Mountain Grove, Mo., and Irene (Keith) Ponsford, Boulder, Colo.; three daughters-in-law–Carolyn Niemann and Sandy Morrow, both Frazee, and Charlotte Niemann, Detroit Lakes; two sisters–Lou Larson, Moorhead, and Ellie Radtke, Fargo, and a brother–Alfred (Margaret) Niemann, St. Paul. There are 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Niemann in death were his wife (who died in 1996), three sons (Vernon, Marvin and Ronald) and a daughter (Merilyn).
Beatrice G. Sharp
Aug. 21, 1914–Oct. 11, 2000
There was a memorial service at 3 p.m on Friday, Oct. 13, from the Frazee Care Center for Beatrice G. Sharp.
Mrs. Sharp, 86, died on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Frazee Care Center, where she had been a resident for six years.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Beatrice Gladys Tucker, daughter of Claude and Margaret Sindt Tucker, was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Wayburn, Sask., Canada, and grew up in the Dent-Perham area.
On Aug. 9, 1933, she and Francis Sharp were married as part of the Otter Tail County Fair.
Following their marriage, they farmed near Frazee until November, 1957, when they moved to McMinnville, Ore. While there, Mrs. Sharp cared for foster children and worked at the school as a cook.
They returned to the Detroit Lakes area in the early 1980s and retired.
Mrs. Sharp enjoyed travel, playing games, knitting and shopping.
Surviving are six sons–Richard, Leslie (Linda) and Gordon, all of Frazee; Darrell (Cleo), Park Rapids; Duane (Gerry), Sweet Home, Ore., and Ervin (Judy), Springfield, Mo.; four daughters–Catherine (John) Bachman, Frazee; Margaret (Jim) Foster, McMinnville, Ore.; Mary (Ray) Foster, Dayton, Ore., and Fern (Dennis) Aaserude, Spray, Ore., and two brothers–Louis Tucker, Woodward, Okla., and Melvin Tucker, Madison, Wis,. There are 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding Mrs. Sharp in death were her husband (who died in 1994), a sister (Eva), three brothers (Randall, Robert and Vernon), a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
Margaret L. Sundet
April 27, 1920–Oct. 11, 2000
Margaret L. Sundet, 80, Detroit Lakes, died at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, at Swan Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fergus Falls, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Gertrude Lilla, daughter of Frank and Ida Sellner Lilla, was born at Stirum, N. D., on April 27, 1920, and was raised and attended school there.
On Oct. 11, 1947, she and Theodore Erbstoesser were married in Wahpeton and lived in Fargo. Mr. Erbstoesser died in 1962.
She and Kermit Thompson were married in South Dakota on May 27, 1964, and lived in Moorhead. Mrs. Thompson worked for the Prudential Insurance Co. in Fargo.
They moved to Cormorant Lake south of Audubon in 1976 and to Detroit Lakes in 1996.
Mr. Thompson died in 1998.
Surviving are a daughter–Janet (Donald) Jacobson, Orange, Calif.; a brother–Leonard Lilla, Westlaco, Tex., and a sister–Cora Higmor, Auroya Grande, Calif. There are two grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Thompson also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Norbert and Edward) and a sister (Mary Stenzil).
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Margaret L. Sundet
Feb. 7, 1932–Oct. 11, 2000
Margaret L. Sundet, 68, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the North Valley Health Center Hospital in Warren.
The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, from Ness Lutheran Church at rural Gary.
Rev. Bill Beyer officiated at the funeral, Edna Rude was the organist and special music was by Almina Beyer.
Interment was at Ness Lutheran Cemetery, with the Mattson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Nieces and nephews of Miss Sundet were the pallbearers.
Margaret Sundet, daughter of Peter and Martha Degerness Sundet, was born at Gary on Feb. 7, 1932, and grew up in the Gary area.
She lived in Brainerd and Stephen and later moved to a group home in Argyle, where she lived for over 20 years.
Miss Sundet worked at the DAC in Warren, where she became head inspector of all crafts and knick knacks made by residents of the DAC.
Surviving are two sisters–Katheryn (Sherman) Larson, Gary, and Allene (Ardie) Thorson, Page, N. D. There are several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers.
Melvin H. Zitzow
Oct. 28, 1921–Oct. 11, 2000
Melvin H. Zitzow, 78, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, from Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with the Rev. John Hulden officiating.
Serving as the pallbearers were Chad Zitzow, Jeremiah Zitzow, Tyson Zitzow, Matthew Zitzow, Brian Mueller and Paul Stazsko.
The David-Donehower Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Melvin Henry Zitzow, son of Henry and Esther Loebrick Zitzow, was born at Luce on Oct. 28, 1921, grew up in the Vergas area, attended school at Frazee and Vergas and graduated from Perham High School.
Mr. Zitzow worked for the Franklin Fence Co. in Vergas, for various farms and was a typesetter for the newspaper in Perham.
During World War II, he served with the U. S. Army Air Corps and was an officer’s chef.
He and Beatrice Northfield were married in England in 1944.
Mr. Zitzow returned to the United States in 1945, his wife came here a year later and they lived in Thief River Falls, where he worked for the Thief River Falls Times and also farmed.
They later moved to East Grand Forks and he worked for the Grand Forks Herald until retiring in 1987.
Mr. Zitzow also worked part-time for the State of Minnesota at the Fisher’s Landing Rest Area on U. S. Highway 2.
He moved to Moorhead in April, 1997, and lived at the Fairmont Apartments.
Mr. Zitzow was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the International Typographical Union and was a past Lutheran elder. He enjoyed fishing, trapshooting, bowling, orchard farming, gardening and square dancing.
Surviving are three sons–Wayne (Ruthie), Moorhead; Darryl (Thea), Ogema, and Rocky, Chicago, Ill., and a brother–Gordon (Bernice), Moorhead. There are four grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife (who died in 1995) and a brother (Robert).
Rose J. Arneson
May 19, 1913–Oct. 12, 2000
Rose J. Arneson, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 12, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, where she had resided since Jan. 1 of this year.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, from First Lutheran Church.
Rev. David Peterson will officiate at the funeral, Vicki Marthaler will be the pianist and Rev. Peterson will be the soloist.
Interment will be at Strandvik Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Park Township of Becker County, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Kevin Arneson, Dean Priem, Tim Priem, David Priem, Dennis Priem and David Priem.
Rose Johnson, daughter of Gust and Hannah Johnson, was born at rural Audubon on May 19, 1913.
Her parents died when she was a year old and she was raised by her grandparents and an aunt and uncle at rural Audubon. She attended country school near Lake Eunice at rural Audubon.
On Dec. 15, 1934, she and Herbert Arneson were married and lived in Detroit Lakes.
Mrs. Arneson worked in custodial services most of her life.
Surviving are a son–Marlyn (Betty), Seattle, Wash., and two daughters–Arlyss (Jerry) Priem and Dorine (Kenny) Johnson, both Detroit Lakes. There are 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Arneson also was preceded in death by her husband, who died Feb. 2, 1982.
