Marvin T. Anderson
Nov. 27, 1920-Oct. 14, 2000
Marvin T. Anderson, Fargo, N.D., died Saturday, Oct. 14, while enroute to Dakota-Heartland Hospital in Fargo. He was 79.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
Anderson was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Donnelly, Minn., the son of Nora and Carl R. Anderson. He grew up and attended school in Hoffman.
He married Helen M. Mattson on Jan. 2, 1942. Anderson then served four years in the U.S. Navy Hospital Corps as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class aboard the USS Chandeleur in the South Pacific Theater.
Following World War II, Anderson and his family moved to Fargo where he attended North Dakota State University. Anderson received a degree in pharmacy in 1949.
Anderson was employed at Wold Drug Store in Moorhead, the Fargo Clinic Pharmacy and in 1957 became manager of Dakota Clinic Pharmacy, a position he held until retiring in 1985.
Anderson was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church for 50 years. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed being with family at his lake cottage.
Anderson is survived by: his wife; daughters Judith (Richard) Pett of Minneapolis, Dana (John) Emery of Detroit Lakes, and Lisa (Mark) Helbling of Fergus Falls; brother Milton of Norway Lake; sister Roma Fostervold of Willmar; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Kenneth J. Mountain
March 12, 1956-Oct. 11, 2000
Kenneth J. Mountain, Los Angeles, Calif., and formerly White Earth, died Oct. 11 at Veteran's Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles. He was 44.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Ponsford. Father Mietak Bajek officiated.
Interment was at St. Theodore's Cemetery in Ponsford.
The pallbearers were Jeremy Huerd, Jeff Huerd, John Huerd, Garrick Goose, Charlie Goodman and Lee Goodman. Honorary pallbearers were his friends in California.
Mountain was born March 12, 1956, at White Earth, the son of Louis L. and Gladys (Sitting Goose) Mountain.
He lived in Greenbush until 1972, and then moved to Flandreau, S.D. Mountain served in the U.S. Navy, 1974-82. He resided in Los Angeles since his discharge from the service.
Mountain is survived by: special friend Donna Mae Fennema of Los Angeles; sisters Sharon Mountain of Lake Andes, S.D., Christine Goodman of Bemidji, Veronica (Bob) Lyons of Minneapolis, Bonita (Daniel) Bruce of Cass Lake, Georgette Faye of Dubuque, Iowa, and Jeannie (Mike) Huerd of Warroad; brother Tim (Betty) Goose of LaPorte; and foster father James Efta of Greenbush.
Mountain was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Verna J. Pautzke
Oct. 15, 1914–Oct. 14, 2000
Verna J. Pautzke, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, from the Springfield United Methodist Church, with Rev. Art Keith officiating.
Interment was at Springfield City Cemetery, with the Sturm Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Frank Tetz, John Hovdenes, Ed Pautzke Jr., Matt Hovdenes, Jeff Hovdenes and Ed Pautzke III.
Verna Johnson, daughter of Louis and Heda Nelson Johnson, was born at Henning on Oct. 15, 1914, grew up and attended school at Henning, attended Moorhead State Teachers College for two years and then worked as a secretary.
On Jan. 20, 1940, she and Arnold Schultz were married and later moved to Springfield.
She and her husband worked at the Schultz Specialty Shop in Springfield and–during the 1960s–she began working for Albert Loomis as a legal secretary.
Mr. Schultz died in January, 1974, and she continued to work as a legal secretary until retiring in 1976.
On Feb. 13, 1976, she and Edward Pautzke Sr. were married in Brookings, S. D. He died in 1989.
A member of the Springfield United Methodist Church and Eastern Star, Mrs. Pautzke enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles and playing bridge.
Surviving are three daughters–Elizabeth (Frank) Tetz, Carson City, Nev.; Susan (John) Hovdenes, Detroit Lakes, and Shari Pagnotta, San Diego, Calif., and four step-children–Jean Magochy, Schnecksville, Pa.; Ed (LaVonne) Pautzke, Springfield; Donovan (Elaine) Pautzke, Northfield, and James Pautzke, Northome. There are six grandsons, 11 step-grandchildren, 25 step-great-grandchildren and seven step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Pautzke also was preceded in death by a son-in-law (Anthony Pagnotta), a step-son (Jack Pautzke), a step-son-in-law (Andrew Magochy), a step-daughter-in-law (Judy Pautzke), a brother (Louis) and a sister (Leila).

Bernice M. Rue
July 18, 1940–Oct. 13, 2000
Bernice M. Rue, 60, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Frazee Care Center.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from the David-Donehower Chapel in Detroit Lakes, with Rev. David Hahn officiating.
Interment was at Lysne Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hawley, with the David-Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Shawn Boit, Nick Boit, Shawn Mastin, Rick Mastin, John Paquin and Scott Boit.
Bernice M. Anderson, daughter of Elmer and Mabel Anderson, was born at Lake Park on July 18, 1940, and was raised and attended school at rural Hawley.
She and Louis Boit were married and later were divorced.
She moved to Detroit Lakes and worked for Swift & Co. from 1982-92. With the closing of the Swift plant in Detroit Lakes, she worked at the West Central Turkey Plant in Pelican Rapids until retiring in 1997.
Surviving are three sons–Kevin, Scott (Sheila) and Thomas, all Detroit Lakes; her step-mother–Agnes Sanden, Detroit Lakes, and three brothers–Eldon (Florence) Mastin, Babbitt; Harold (Alvera) Mastin, Embarrass, and James (Dee) Darnecher, Des Moines, Ia. There are nine grandchildren, a great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters (Evelyn and Cynthia Ann) and several grandchildren.

Olive A. Frank
Sept. 21, 1905–Oct. 14, 2000
Olive A. Frank, 95, died Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Frazee Care Center, where she had been a resident since June of this year.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m on Thursday, Oct. 19, from Zion Lutheran Church.
Rev. Dan C. Abrahams will officiate at the funeral, Becky Woodard will be the organist and the soloist will be Michelle Johnson.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West-Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Wayne Gulseth, Dennis Bahls, Harold Drewes, Ken Frank, Darrel Drewes and Larry Frank.
Olive A. Drewes, daughter of Henry and Henrietta Drewes, was born Sept. 21, 1905, in Toad Lake Township of Becker County.
She grew up in Becker County, married Edward Blauert at Toad Lake on June 28, 1933, and they moved into Detroit Lakes in 1946.
Shortly after the move to Detroit Lakes, her husband died in a hunting accident and she worked at several jobs to support her son and daughter.
On Dec. 5, 1954, she and Edward Frank were married in Detroit Lakes. They built a home in Detroit Lakes in 1960 and she lived there until entering the Frazee Care Center. Mr. Frank died in 1995.
Mrs. Frank enjoyed fishing, gardening, picking berries, canning, crocheting, crossword puzzles and playing cards.
Surviving are a son–Vernon (Beverly) Blauert, Anoka; a daughter–Marlyn A. Derby, Spokane, Wash., and a sister–Ellie Rader, Perham. There are five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews from the Drewes, Blauert and Frank families.
In addition to her husbands, she also was preceded in death by a son (Allen Blauert, who died in infancy), her parents, four brothers and a sister.
Visitation: Wednesday, Oct. 18, 6-8 p.m., West-Kjos Funeral Home and also one hour before funeral at Zion Lutheran Church.

Jack A. Halvorson
Jan. 9, 1928–Oct. 14, 2000
Jack A. Halvorson, Detroit Lakes, died at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fargo on Saturday, Oct. 14. He was 72.
The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, from the West-Kjos Chapel in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Tim Cook officiating.
Military honors will be by Jess-Omundson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1676 of Detroit Lakes.
The West-Kjos Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Jack A. Halvorson, son of John and Mabel Speten Halvorson, was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Becker County.
He grew up and attended school near Ponsford, worked in Montana for a short time and then returned to Detroit Lakes and worked at the Detroit Lakes Ice Plant prior to serving with the U. S. Army from 1953-56.
Upon receiving his discharge from the armed forces, Mr. Halvorson worked for Doug Chapman in installing and maintaining gasoline pumps.
On Nov. 18, 1966, he and Betty Friesen were married in Mahnomen.
The Halvorsons lived at rural Detroit Lakes and he worked for the Landseidel Road Construction firm for 10 years and later was employed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes.
Mr. Halvorson was a life member of Jess-Omundson Post No. 1676, the Detroit Lakes unit of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are a brother–Walter (Helen) Halvorson, Ponsford, and three sisters–Mildred Boock and Shirley Sandberg, both Detroit Lakes, and Irene (Jim) Mack, Ponsford. There are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife (who died July 6, 1998), his parents, a brother (Phillip), four sisters (Mae Schott, Myra Burlingame, Goldie Thunstrom and LaVone Nugent), a step-son (Mark Small) and a granddaughter.
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral.
