Tina Quiring

Tina Quiring, 89, of Mt. Lake died Jan. 30, 2002, at Windom Area Hospital in Windom.

Services were held Saturday at Lakeview Gospel Church in Mt. Lake with Rev. Mark Thimell officiating.
Casketbearers were her nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Mt. Lake Cemetery in Mt. Lake.
Bjerum Funeral Home of Mt. Lake was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Tina Quiring was born Feb. 20, 1912, to Rev. Henry and Anna (Schultz) Quiring in Carson Township of Cottonwood County. In 1926, she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and was baptized upon confession of faith. She also became a member of Bergfelder Church (now Lakeview Gospel Church).
Tina received her education at District 65 country school and German Bible School in Mt. Lake. She graduated from high school at Minnehaha Academy.

She continued her education at Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School in Minneapolis, graduating in 1936. Tina also received a BA degree from Goshen College in Goshen, Ind., in 1948.
After completing her formal education, Tina taught in the Bible Department at Mt. Lake Bible School and at Berean Academy in Elbing, Kan.

From 1950 to 1976, she served as a missionary in the Congo, under Africa Inter-Mennonite Missions. Her main work was teaching as well as production and distribution of literature.

After returning to Mt. Lake in 1976, Tina lived with her sister, Anna. Tina continued to type Tshiluba manuscripts for use in theological education by the extension program in Zaire.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Cornelious Quiring; and three sisters, Sarah Penner, Anna Quiring and Elizabeth Clevenger.

Survivors include a brother, Samuel (Dorothy) Quiring of Tacoma, Wash.; and three sisters, Helen Sawatzky and Esther Dick, both of Mt. Lake, and Marie Ruth (Garwin) Clevenger of Lima, Ohio.

Helma Olson

Helma Olson, 93, of Westbrook died Jan. 30, 2002, at Westbrook Good Samaritan Center in Westbrook.
Services were held Saturday at Westbrook Funeral Home in Westbrook with Rev. William Klavetter officiating.

Casketbearers were her grandchildren: Randy Hanson, David Hanson, Kevin Hanson, Mark Hanson, Eric Hanson, Daniel Olson, Thomas Hanson, Jody Kramer, Laurie Timp and Staci Olson.

Graveside services were held at Old Westbrook Lutheran Cemetery in Ann Township of Cottonwood County.
Helma Caroline Einertson was born Nov. 26, 1908, to Joseph and Laura (Anderson) Einertson in Cottonwood County. She was baptized and confirmed at Old Westbrook Lutheran Church in Ann Township of Cottonwood County and attended District 30 country school.

In 1934, Helma married Torris Olson in Westbrook. The couple farmed in Westbrook Township until her husband’s death in 1966.
In 1973, Helma moved into Westbrook, where she worked for the Westbrook Produce and, later, Westbrook Good Samaritan Center before retiring in 1977.

Helma enjoyed sewing, embroidery, fanciwork, flower gardening, bowling and baking “sticky rolls.”
She was a member of Old Westbrook Lutheran Church and its ladies aid. She also taught Sunday School there for many years.

She was a member of the Garden Club, Westbrook VFW Auxiliary and was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Torris.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan (Garry) Hanson of Winona; and son, Charles (Marilyn) Olson of Shoreview; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters: Verna Nelson of Westbrook, Wilfred Einertson of Westbrook, Joyce Hedman of Mankato, and Marvin Einertson of Windom.

Bernice Hengtgen-Waechter

Bernice (Muller) Hengtgen-Waechter, 74, of Crosby, formerly of Windom, died Feb. 3, 2002, at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Windom with Rev. Michael Hibbs officiating.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Windom.

Visitation will be held Thursday from noon to 1 p.m., at the church in Windom
Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home in Windom is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Doris Lohre

Doris (Mrs. Leonard) Lohre, 70, of Lamberton died Feb. 5, 2002, at Westbrook Good Samaritan Home in Westbrook.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Anderson-Schmidt-LaCanne Funeral Home in Windom.

Douglas Wiese

Douglas Wiese, 36, of Comfrey died Oct. 1, 2001, at his home near Comfrey.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey with Rev. Tim Baglien and Rev. Patricia Baglien officiating.

Special music will be provided by Laurie Fredin, organist; and Rev. Patricia Baglien, vocalist.
Pallbearers will be Mike Sell, Terry Sell, Jeff Becker, Steve Helget, Steve Johnson and Steve Berberich.

Interment will follow at Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 4 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 7:30 to 9 a.m., at Sturm Funeral Home in Comfrey. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.

Douglas Donald Wiese was born July 26, 1965, to Donald and Joyce (Becker) Wiese in Comfrey. He attended school in Comfrey, graduating from Comfrey High School in 1983.
Doug attended vocational-technical school in Staples for heavy equipment operation before working at Schwans in Marshall.

In 1987, he entered the U.S. Navy, working as a machinists mate and fireman.
Following his discharge in 1990, Doug worked at Hackers, then attended Jackson Vo-Tech and Rochester Vo-Tech for refrigeration.

He worked at Tony Downs Foods and later for the Campbell Soup Company in Worthington during the winter and the Del Monte Company in Sleepy Eye in the summer. Most recently, he worked at the sugar beet plant in Renville.

Doug was a former member of Faith Lutheran Church and a current member of New Hope Lutheran Church, both in Comfrey. He was also a member of Albin Johnson American Legion Post 244 in Comfrey.

Doug enjoyed auto racing, tractor-pulling contests, sports, playing softball, farming and hunting.
Survivors include his parents, Donald and Joyce Wiese of Comfrey; two sisters, Ramona (Jim) Widmer of New Ulm and Debra (Burt) Manz of Park Rapids; and one brother, David (Nancy) Wiese of New Ulm.

Grover Busk

Grover Busk, 86, of Westbrook died Sept. 27, 2001, at Westbrook Good Samaritan Care Center in Westbrook.
Services were held Tuesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook.

Interment was at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.
The Westbrook Funeral Home of Westbrook was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Grover Busk was born Aug. 12, 1915, to Carl and Esther (Sorenson) Busk in Summitt, S.D. He accepted Christ as his Savior as a young man at Grant Evangelical Free Church in Milbank, S.D.

In 1942, Grover entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in Italy during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to the Westbrook area.
In 1946, Grover married Hazel Erickson at Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook. The couple resided in Windom for a short time before moving to Dovray, where Grover worked for the Dovray Grain Company for more than 20 years.

When the couple moved to Westbrook, Grover became a custodian at the Westbrook Elementary School until his retirement.
Grover was a member of the American Legion in Westbrook and Dovray. He was also a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Westbrook, where he served as a deacon and as a Sunday School teacher.

Grover also enjoyed gardening, woodworking and reading.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose and Gladys, and two infant siblings.

Survivors include his wife Hazel of Westbrook; his children: Carol (Russell) Baker of Leadville, Colo.; Linda Fossum of Minneapolis; and Chuck (Sue) Busk of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; four sisters, Alice Mitchell, Dorothy (Wally) Bracht, Velma Busk and Marlys (Earl) Parsons; and two brothers, Robert (Marion) Busk and Marlo “Rusty” (Gladys) Busk.

Olga Bakke

Olga “Evelyn” Bakke, 77, of rural Westbrook died Sept. 29, 2001, at her home.
Services were held Tuesday at Amo Lutheran Church near Storden with Rev. Alan Buresh officiating.
Special music was provided by Jan Petersen, vocalist; and Robyn Galer, keyboard accompanist.

Pallbearers were Willard Schroeder, Evan Peterson, George Regan, Roy Tindeland, Rev. Harlan Johnson and Alvin Schroeder.
Honorary pallbearers were Dayel and Delores Olson, Jen Petersen, Martin and Delores Peterson and Harris and Nancy Byers.

Interment was at Amo Lutheran Cemetery near Storden.
Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Windom was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Olga “Evelyn” Skogen was born June 10, 1924, to Andrew and Anna (Olson) Skogen in Heron Lake. She grew up in a family of 14 children near Heron Lake. Evelyn began her education in the District 26 Red, White and Blue Schoolhouse before graduating from Heron Lake High School in 1942.

In 1946, Evelyn married Peder Bakke at Amo Lutheran Church near Storden and, except for one year near Storden, farmed in Westbrook Township all their lives.
In addition to caring for her family, Evelyn worked for 12 years for the Fingerhut Company in Windom, retiring in 1978.
In January, Evelyn was diagnosed with cancer.

She was a lifelong member of Amo Lutheran Church.
Evelyn enjoyed making rugs, quilts and wedding cakes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed drawing in charcoal and pencil. For many years, she bowled in leagues and tournaments.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Peder; her three children, Emmet (Karen) Bakke of Marshall, Marlene Bakke of Norman, Okla., and Olin (Linda) Bakke of Welcome; four grandchildren; and four sisters, Karna Pulcher, Julia Skogen, Mathilda Peterson and Aletta Kalash, all of Windom.

Harlin Preheim

Harlin Preheim, 52, of Windom died Sept. 29, 2001, at his home near Windom after a battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m., at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. Steve Norby officiating.

Special music will be provided by Carol Vought, organist.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Harder, Mike Sandbo, Bruce Horkey, Ray Kemp, Ken Schrag and Curt Nelson.
Interment will be at 3 p.m., at Salem Mennonite Cemetery (south church) in Freeman, S.D., with Rev. Roy Kaufman officiating.

Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home of Windom is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Harlin Russell Preheim was born April 14, 1949, to Reinhardt and Susann (Lehmann) Preheim in Sioux Falls, S.D. He grew up in South Dakota and began his education at Hillside 72 in Freeman. He completed his education at Freeman Academy, graduating in 1967.

After high school, he worked at 1-W Service in Minneapolis for two years.
In 1970, he began farming in the Windom area, living in his own home in Great Bend Township near Windom for many years.
In May, Harlin was diagnosed with advanced cancer.
Until recently, Harlin had been a longtime member of Salem Mennonite Church in Freeman.

A gifted mechanic, Harlin enjoyed making his own tools for special tasks. He had built his own drill press and wood splitter.
He also had an appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Harley-Davidson memorabelia.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Susanna.

Survivors include his daughter, Sara Robinson of Mankato; his father, Reinhardt (Margaret) Preheim of Mt. Lake; one brother, Oren Preheim of Windom; and one sister, Lois (Colin) Lepp of Dodge Center.
