F. Miles Nelson
April 8, 1914 - March 6, 2001
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, from First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes for F. Miles Nelson.
Mr. Nelson, 86, a former principal at Detroit Lakes Senior High School, died at the Frazee Care Center on Monday, March 6.
The Rev. David Peterson will officiate at the service.
Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
F. Miles Nelson, son of Milton and Mina Kramer Nelson, was born at Paynesville on April 8, 1914.
He was raised and attended school in the Frazee/Vergas area, earned a bachelor’s degree at Bemidji State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
Mr. Nelson and Margaret Genness were married in 1939.
Following college graduation, he taught at Red Lake, Tower, Minneota, Sleepy Eye and Redwood Falls and served as principal at Morton, Esko, Thief River Falls, International Falls, Detroit Lakes (1963 - 68) and Prior Lake. While at Detroit Lakes, he was instrumental in implementing the quarter scheduling system in the Senior High.
Upon retiring in 1976, he returned to Detroit Lakes.
Mr. Nelson enjoyed making maple syrup, cutting wood, gardening and harvesting wild rice.
While at Bemidji State, he was a football captain and starred in track.
He served on the North Central Schools Certification Board, the Area Mental Health Board and helped found the Detroit Lakes cross country ski team.
Surviving are his wife - Margaret, Frazee; a son - Darby (Geri), Champlain; a brother - Harry, Mackinen, and a sister - Angie (Oscar) Schultz, Grand Rapids. There are two grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Nelson in death were a daughter (Mitzi) and a sister (Roxie).
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral.

Harriet M. Jolls
Nov. 26, 1919 - March 14, 2001
Harriet M. Jolls, 81, died at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, March 14.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, from Cormorant Lutheran Church.
Rev. Lori Beck will officiate at the funeral.
Interment will be at Cormorant Lutheran Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Harriet Mae Sveen, daughter of Bernard and Ann Oline Haugen Sveen, was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Williston, N. D.
The family lived in the North Dakota communities of Dunseith, Rugby and Minot while her father was employed with the railroad as a conductor.
Harriet Sveen graduated from Minot High School (Class of 1937), attended business college in Fargo and was employed by the Internal Revenue Service for many years.
She and Robert E. Jolls were married on Nov. 13, 1945, in Seattle, Wash.
They lived in Fargo until 1948 and then built a home on Big Cormorant Lake south of Lake Park. They moved to Crookston in 1954, where Mr. Jolls was chief electrician for the American Crystal Sugar Co. and where she was employed for several years as secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a son - David (Olympia) Jolls, Glendale, Ariz.; two daughters - Janet (Leonard) Peterson, Maplewood, and Linda (Scott) Holst, Decatur, Ill., and a brother - Robert Sveen, Kirkland, Wash. There are seven grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Jolls in death were her parents, a daughter (who died in infancy), her husband and a brother (Kenneth).
Visitation: Sunday, March 18, West - Kjos Funeral Home, 6 - 8 p.m. Also one hour prior to funeral at Cormorant Lutheran Church.

Clifford P. "Dib" Conklin
March 15, 1914 - March 14, 2001
Clifford P. "Dib" Conklin, 87, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids on Wednesday, March 14.
The funeral was at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, from the Jones - Pearson Chapel in Park Rapids.
Rev. Marty Geise officiated at the funeral.
Interment was at Linnell Cemetery near Ponsford, with the Jones - Pearson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Delvin Keezer, Bart Glatzmaier Jr., Tim Conklin, Angie Rousu, Lisa Warren and Tom Denny.
Clifford Conklin, son of Pearl and Nancy Stewart Conklin, was born March 15, 1914, in Carsonville Township of Becker County.
He grew up and attended school in that area and - on June 19, 1938 - Mr. Conklin and Edna Lindgren were married
Over the years, he worked for numerous logging contractors in the Park Rapids area. The family moved to Carlton in the 1960s, where he was employed in clearing land for various power line companies.
The Conklins returned to Park Rapids four years later and he again worked in the logging industry.
Surviving are his wife - Edna; five children - Darell (Judy) Conklin, International Falls; Nancy (Bart) Glatzmaier, Wesley (Debra) Conklin and Ricky Conklin, all of Park Rapids, and Connie Keezer, Coon Rapids; six brothers - Floyd, Wayne, Donald, Orville, Alvin and Marvin, and a sister - Joann Eliasson. There are 23 grandchildren, 55 great - grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mr. Conklin in death were a son (Larry), his parents, two sisters (Vera and Alice) and three brothers (Gordon, Leon and Lester).

Earle "Ole" Teigen
June 4, 1913 - March 15, 2001
Earle "Ole" Teigen, 87, died Thursday, March 15, at Sunnyside Nursing Home east of Lake Park, where he had been a resident since August, 1999.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, from the Sunnyside Nursing Home Chapel.
Rev. Doug Lindgren officiated at the funeral, Marj Johnson gave the eulogy, Arvilla West was the pianist and the vocalist was Clint Felker.
Interment was at the Lake Park Lutheran Cemetery, with the Vigen - Wright Funeral Home of Lake Park in charge of arrangements.
Nieces and nephews were the honorary pallbearers.
Earle Teigen, son of Erick and Emma Fardahl Teigen, was born June 4, 1913, at Reeder, N. D.
He moved with his family to the Hawley area in 1919, where they lived on a farm in Parke Township. He attended country school in that area.
Mr. Teigen moved to Frazee and worked for a creamery until retiring in 1979.
He moved to Hawley, living at the Northside Terrace Apartments, before entering Sunnyside Nursing Home.
Mr. Teigen had a great interest in music and played the piano, organ and accordian.
Surviving is a sister - Ruby Braseth Swedberg, Audubon. There are 29 nephews and nieces.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Jay R. Holman
Dec. 21, 1910 - March 16, 2001
Jay R. Holman, 90, a resident of the Audubon area since 1976, died at his home in Audubon on Friday, March 16.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church south of Audubon.
Harry Myers officiated at the funeral and Audrey Savig was the organist.
Interment was at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were James Holman, Marlyn Rislund, Philip Berg, Dennis Holman, Gordon Brekken and Wade Moore.
Jay R. Holman, son of Charles and Hilma Hillstrom Holman, was born Dec. 21 1910, at Ortonville.
He grew up and attended school at Ortonville, moved to St. Paul in 1925 and married Lillian D. Petersen in St. Paul on July 22, 1939.
Mr. Holman worked in a machine shop and in foundry maintenance until retiring in 1975 and they moved to rural Audubon the following year.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his garage and doing lawn work.
Surviving are his wife - Lillian; a daughter - Avis (Darrell) Ohman, Fargo, and two brothers - LeLand Holman, Billings, Mont., and Maurice Holman, St. Paul. There are two granddaughters and five great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Holman in death were a son (Dale), a brother (Harold) and his parents.
