Edwin Oftelie
Nov. 6, 1909 - March 17, 2001
Edwin Oftelie, 91, who farmed for many years south of Lake Park, died Saturday, March 17, at the Birchwood Health Center in Forest Lake, where he had been a resident since 1998.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, from Houglum Lutheran Church near Lake Park.
Rev. Floyd Synstelien officiated at the funeral, Audrey Savig was the organist and the vocalist was Carol Hoiby.
Interment was at Houglum Lutheran Cemetery, with the Vigen - Wright Funeral Home of Lake Park in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Mike Anda, Greg Anda, Mark Flaherty, Chris Oftelie, Geoffrey Anda and Ryan Anda.
The honorary pallbearers included Debra Anda, Jennifer Thiry, Michelle Stiff, Julie Oftelie, Mark Thiry and Tom Stiff.
Edwin Oftelie, son of Gullick and Liv Thompson Oftelie, was born Nov. 6, 1909, near Lake Park.
He grew up and attended country school there and married Edna Nelson on Nov. 6, 1937, at Lake Park.
They farmed south of Lake Park until they retired and moved to Lindstrom in 1993.
Surviving are a son - David (Elaine) Oftelie, Center City; a daughter - Ardie (Michael) Flaherty, Grand Rapids, and a sister - Gladys Samuelson, Hawley. There are eight grandchildren and 10 great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Oftelie in death were his wife (who died Sept. 18, 1997) and a daughter (Bernice).

Dorothy I. Johnson
Nov. 12, 1926 - March 13, 2001
Dorothy I. Johnson, 74, a former postmaster at Richwood, died Tuesday, March 13, at Emmanuel Nursing Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 16, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating.
Interment will be at the Richwood Lakeside Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Daniel Otto, Dennis Otto, Dale Otto, Steve Maneval, Jason Maneval and Dustin Johnson.
Grandchildren and great - grandchildren will be honorary pallbearers.
Dorothy Brannan, daughter of Michael and Mary Beaumont Brannan, was born in Brooklyn, N. Y., on Nov. 12, 1926.
She grew up and attended school in Brooklyn and married Marvin Johnson in Brooklyn on April 3, 1943.
They moved to Richwood shortly after their marriage. Mrs. Johnson also worked at the Richwood Store, in addition to serving as the postmaster.
Actively involved in the Phoenix Support Group and the Beginning Experience Group, she was instrumental in initiating the Rainbows for all God’s Children organization, which helped children with emotional needs.
Surviving are three sons - Ted and Pete (Paula), both Richwood, and Paul (Chris), Detroit Lakes, and three daughters - Darlene (Steven) Maneval and Mary (Troy) Murphy, both Detroit Lakes, and Janet (Keith) Zinter, Eau Claire, Wis. There are 15 grandchildren and 10 great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Johnson in death were her husband (who died in 1976), two sons (Kenneth and Thomas), a daughter (Marlene Otto), four brothers and her parents.
Visitation: Thursday, March 15, 4 - 8 p.m., West - Kjos Funeral Home, with prayer service at 7. Also one hour prior to funeral at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Anna K. Blauert.
March 24, 1911 - March 12, 2001
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, from St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Frazee, for Anna K. Blauert.
Mrs. Blauert, 89, the widow of Frank Blauert, died Monday, March 12, at Perham Memorial Hospital.
Rev. Delton Stohs will officiate at the funeral, Rose Wendt will be the organist and the soloist will be Melanie Erickson.
Interment will be at the church Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers will be Roger Blauert, Robert Blauert, Joel Ulschmid, Jeffrey Ulschmid, Dennis Totland and Curtis DeGroat.
Anna Kinnen, daughter of John and Anna Boose Kinnen, was born March 24, 1911, in Silver Leaf Township of Becker County.
She grew up and attended school at rural Frazee and - on Oct. 29, 1930 - married Frank E. Blauert at rural Frazee.
They farmed in Toad Lake Township of Becker County and she also worked at the Frazee Nutrition Center for several years. The Blauerts moved into Frazee in 1977.
A member of the Ladies Aid and a Sunday School teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mrs. Blauert enjoyed gardening, crafts and playing cards. She also did considerable volunteer work at the Frazee Care Center.
Surviving are a son - Vernon (Mabel), Frazee; three daughters - Juliette Totland and Ramona Ulschmid, both Frazee, and Sharon (William) May, Wadena, and a sister - Tracey Eidenschink, Detroit Lakes.
There are 29 grandchildren, 56 great - grandchildren and eight great - great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Blauert in death were her husband (who died Feb. 5, 1992), her parents, three daughters (who died in infancy), three brothers, three sisters, a grandson and a step - great - grandson.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 14, 4 - 8 p.m., West - Kjos Funeral Home. Also one hour prior to funeral at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Esther D. Wooldridge
Jan. 28, 1921 - March 13, 2001
Esther D. Wooldridge, 80, died Tuesday, March 13, at her home in Detroit Lakes.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 16, from the West - Kjos Chapel, with Rev. Tim Cook officiating. Vicki Marthaler will be the organist and the soloist will be Kim Schnitzer.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Esther Kronbeck, daughter of Aaron and Ethel Doherty Kronbeck, was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Hawley.
She grew up on the family farm, attended school in Hawley and married Oscar Wooldridge in April, 1940.
They lived in Fargo, where Mr. Wooldridge was a rural mail carrier for 38 years. Upon his retirement in 1957, they moved to Big Toad Lake near Osage and lived there until Mr. Wooldridge died in 1975.
Mrs. Wooldridge then moved to Detroit Lakes and worked for 12 years at the Detroit Lakes Nutrition Center.
A member of the Ding - A - Lings, a local dance and singing group, she was known as an excellent cook, a great dancer and a person who enjoyed restoring antiques.
Surviving are a daughter - Jane (Gerald) McCauley, Walker; her companion of 21 years - Russell Skinner, Detroit Lakes; a brother - Alvie Kronbeck, California, and two sisters - Hazel Barta, Moorhead, and Jeanette Drescher, Texas.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wooldridge also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers (Everett and Alvin) and a sister (Mable).
Visitation: One hour prior to funeral.

Ned C. Hermann
July 2, 1921 - March 18, 2001
Ned C. Hermann, 79, rural Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, March 18, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, from the West - Kjos Chapel, with Rev. David G. Hahn officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ned C. Hermann, son of Carl and Esther Swenson Olson, was born at Fergus Falls on July 2, 1921, and later was adopted and raised by John and Ella Hermann.
They lived in Minneapolis, where he graduated from high school and earned a degree in music at McPhail College in St. Paul.
Mr. Hermann taught band in various communities in Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada and - during that time - maintained a summer home at Acorn Lake near Frazee.
Upon retiring, he moved to the Kountry Manor Mobile Home Park near Detroit Lakes in 1983. For the past two months, Mr. Hermann had been a resident at the Frazee Care Center.
Surviving is a sister - Lois (Raymond) Pyles, Silver Spring, Md. There are several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother (Leonard Olson), three sisters (Gladys, June and Rosella) and a nephew.

Jack Hilleboe
March 12, 1929 - March 19, 2001
Jack Hilleboe, 72, a resident of the Cormorant Lake area near Lake Park, died at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes on Monday, March 19.
The funeral will be at 12 noon on Thursday, March 22, from Holy Cross Catholic Church in West Fargo.
The Boulger Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Jack Hilleboe, son of Alfred and Margaret Harrison Hilleboe, was born at Bemidji on March 12, 1929.
As a teen - ager, he moved with his family to Moorhead, where he graduated from high school (Class of 1946).
Mr. Hilleboe graduated from Concordia College in 1950, enlisted in the U. S. Army and served during the Korean War.
On April 17, 1951, Mr. Hilleboe and Marlys Knudson were married at Camp Rucker, Ala.
They returned to Fargo in 1952 and he joined in the family construction business.
Mr. Hilleboe established the Amerland Co. with a partner (James Fay) in 1957 and sold the company in 1971.
He served as executive vice president of the FM Area Board of Realtors and the Home Builders Association.
Mr. Hilleboe retired in 1985 and moved to Cormorant Lake.
While in the Cormorant area, he served on the Cormorant Township board of supervisors. He also was a member of the Fargo - Moorhead Board of Realtors, the Fargo - Moorhead Homebuilders Association, the Disabled American Veterans, The American Legion and the Cormorant Lions Club. Mr. Hilleboe also was a volunteer with MeritCare and Dakota Heartland Mended Hearts.
Survivors include two sons - Christian, Dilworth, and Mark, Tampa, Fla.; two daughters - Betsy (Mark) Denis, West Fargo, and Peggy (Kurt) Jaberg, Lexington Park, Md., and a sister - Mary Hilleboe Colman, North Northampton, Mass. There are 10 grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Preceding Mr. Hilleboe in death were his wife (who died in February, 1999) and his parents.
Visitation: Wednesday, March 21, 5 - 7 p.m., Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, with prayer service at 7.
