Ruth W. Rossiter

May 24, 1913 - May 30, 2000
Ruth W. Rossiter, 87, a former Detroit Lakes resident, died at Roseville on Tuesday, May 30.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 6, from The Congregational Church of Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Mark Kuether officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ruth Eliason, daughter of Jens and Carrie Allen Eliason, was born at Detroit Lakes on May 24, 1913.
She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1929) and later attended the University of Minnesota.
During her working career, she was personnel director for the Lear Corp. in Dayton, Ohio, and later was with the United States State Department. In her role with the U. S. government, she served in Lebanon, Argentina and Egypt and had numerous other assignments prior to retiring in 1978.
Upon retiring, she lived in Washington, D. C., and Tucson, Ariz., and spent most of the summer months in Detroit Lakes.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 6, one hour prior to service at The Congregational Church.

Cordelia Jean Baldwin

April 27, 1937 - May 28, 2000
Services were at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 2, from the Jones - Pearson Chapel in Park Rapids for Cordelia Jean Baldwin.
Mrs. Baldwin, 63, died Sunday, May 28, at the Massilion Community Hospital in Massilion, Ohio.
Fr. Doyle Turner officiated at the funeral.
Interment was at Breck Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Ponsford, with the Jones - Pearson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Harlan Dean Bird, Calvin Gene Bird Sr., Calvin Gene Bird Jr., Arianna Marie Bird (Cain), Ira Hayes Bird and Kent Ralph Bird.
The honorary pallbearers were Tyrone Andre Bird and Robert White.
Cordelia Bird, daughter of Louis and Cecelia Coleman Bird, was born April 27, 1937, in White Earth.
She attended school and grew up in the Park Rapids area and lived in St. Paul and Chicago as a young woman, where she gained employment.
In the early 1980’s, she and Laidley Allen Baldwin were married and lived at Canal Fulton, Ohio.
While in Canal Fulton, she was reunited with her son (Harlan), whom she had not seen since his birth and Harlan moved to Canal Fulton to be near his mother. Laidley Baldwin died in the early 1990’s.
Mrs. Baldwin enjoyed animals.
Surviving are a son - Harlan Bird, Canal Fulton, Ohio; a brother - Calvin (Sharon) Bird Sr., Park Rapids, and two sisters - Zora White, Longville, and Lorraine (James) Domoleczny, Atlanta, Ga. There are many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Baldwin also was preceded in death by her parents, a brother - in - law (Donald) and two cousins.

Estella L. Head.

April 27, 1903 - June 3, 2000
Rites were at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 5, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes for Estella L. Head.
Mrs. Head, 97, died Saturday, June 3, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since 1993.
Fr. Jerry Rogers officiated at the funeral, Teri Daggett was the organist and vocal music was by the Resurrection Choir.
Interment was at Holy Rosary Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Steve Caulfield, Bruce Caulfield, Jeff Caulfield, Kevin Caulfield, Kent Caulfield, Craig Caulfield, Mark Caulfield, Robert Caulfield and Kurt Maute.
Estella LeFebvre, daughter of Joseph and Ida Barbeau LeFebvre, was born April 27, 1903, in Mapleton, Ia., where she grew up and graduated from high school.
Upon completing high school, she was employed at the Bennett Law Office in Mapleton and - on Feb. 24, 1925 - married Donald W. Head in Mapleton.
They moved to Sioux City, Ia., in 1955 and to Detroit Lakes in 1968. While in Detroit Lakes, she was employed at the L. J. Norby Co. from 1968 - 73.
Mrs. Head, who enjoyed knitting, knit 3,427 newborn baby hats for newborns at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
Surviving are two daughters - Norma Jean Maute, Palm Coast, Fla., and LaVonne (Norbert) Caulfield, Detroit Lakes, and a son - Richard Head, Knoxville, Ia. There are 12 grandchildren and 21 great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Head in death were her husband (who died in 1968), her parents, two brothers (George and Walter) and two sisters (Clara Neubran and Alice Quigley).

Helen B. Lidstrom

Aug. 8, 1906 - June 3, 2000
Helen B. Lidstrom, 93, a longtime Richwood resident and the widow of Floyd Lidstrom, died at her home on Saturday, June 3.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, from the Northern Lights Tabernacle in Richwood.
Rev. Fred Soyring officiated at the funeral, Kathy Bjerke was the organist and the soloists were Peggy Cummings and Mike Walther.
Interment was at Richwood Lakeside Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Richard Hamlin, John "Pete" Johnson, Ernie Hukriede, Gerald McDougall, Michael Ritsche and Eric Glessner.
Helen B. Studebaker was born at Reading on Aug. 8, 1906, and moved to the Richwood area with her mother and stepfather (Ires Eschleman Andresen and John Andresen) in 1920.
She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1924), earned a teaching certificate and then taught in School District No. 4 at Richwood.
On Sept. 1, 1928, she and Floyd Lidstrom were married at Moorhead.
They lived in Richwood following their marriage and owned and operated the Richwood Store and the Richwood Post Office until the fall of 1979.
Her husband died Nov. 19, 1979, and she continued to live in Richwood.
Mrs. Lidstrom’s hobbies included painting, gardening and cooking.
Surviving is a brother - in - law - Duane Lidstrom, Detroit Lakes, along with nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were her mother and stepfather, her father (Henry Studebaker) and a sister (Dorothy Earley, who died in 1991).

Nilmar B. Hovelsrud

Aug. 14, 1919 - June 12, 2000
Nilmar B. Hovelsrud, 80, died Monday, June 12, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Detroit Lakes, where he had resided since 1998.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, from Houglum Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park.
Interment will be at the church Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Nilmar Bernard Hovelsrud, son of Julius and Annie Hovelson Hovelsrud, was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Parke Township of Clay County (near Rollag).
He grew up and attended school in that area and then farmed on the family farm near Rollag until 1956.
From 1956 - 64, Mr. Hovelsrud was employed as a plumber for Valley Service Plumbing and - on June 6, 1964 - he and Fern Hansen were married in Hawley.
Following their marriage, they owned and operated Hovelsrud Board and Care in Hawley for 16 years. They retired and moved to Upper Cormorant Lake in 1980.
Mr. Hovelsrud was a member of Houglum Lutheran Church and enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Surviving are his wife - Fern, Detroit Lakes; four daughters - Betty (Dave) Lerud, Lake Park; Enola Mattson and Sheila (John) Moberg, both Detroit Lakes, and Lucille (Duane) Hennings, Hawley; two sons - Tyrone (Ann) Eggen, Apple Valley, and Randall Eggen, Detroit Lakes; four sisters - Alice (Larry) Esbenson, Comstock; Alpha Anderson and Bernice (Marvin) Norman, both of Moorhead, and May (Dean) Livingood, Detroit Lakes, and a brother - Clifford (Dorothy), Moorhead. There are 13 grandchildren and 18 great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Hovelsrud in death were his parents and a brother (Melvin).
Visitation: Wednesday, June 14, David - Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, 5 - 8 p.m. and also one hour prior to funeral on Thursday at Houglum Lutheran Church.

William "Bill" Klein

April 16, 1925 - June 12, 2000
William "Bill" Klein, 75, a native of Detroit Lakes and a resident of Brainerd, died Monday, June 12, in Orlando, Fla.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 16, from St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd.
Fr. Seamus Walsh will officiate at the funeral.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, with the Nelson - Doran Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
William Klein, son of Edmund and Jennie Klein, was born at Detroit Lakes on April 16, 1925.
He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1943) and worked for the Burlington Northern Railway Co. for 39 years before retiring in 1982 as trainmaster.
Mr. Klein served on the Brainerd Water and Light Board from 1974 until the present and also was currently serving on the Salvation Army Board. He was a member of the Elks Club, the Moose Lodge, St. Francis Church and was a past member of the Brainerd Rotary Club.
Surviving are his wife - Donna Klein; two sons - Bradley Klein, Stillwater, and Steve Klein, Appleton, Wis.; a daughter - Kelli Koop, Brainerd; two daughters - in - law - Cindy Klein and Carol Klein, and a son - in - law - John Koop.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother (John), a sister (JoAnne Engbrecht) and a child (who died in infancy).
Visitation: Thursday, June 15, Nelson - Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd, 5 - 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7.
