Hattie A. Lindner
Oct. 28, 1905 - Aug. 8, 2000
Hattie A. Lindner, 94, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, where she had resided since 1997.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, from Zion Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes.
Rev. David G. Hahn officiated at the funeral, Betty Kohler was the organist and Rev. Hahn was the soloist.
Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Michael Ziegler, Robert Ziegler, Jim Gilbertson Jr., Arland Brase, Todd McGovern and Greg Leiner.
Hattie A. Lindner, daughter of William and Louisa Schultz Lindner, was born Oct. 28, 1905, in Erie Township of Becker County and grew up and attended school at rural Detroit Lakes.
From 1930 - 43, she was employed at the L. J. Norby Co. in Detroit Lakes and then moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for Lila’s Apparel and managed Uptown Modes Ladies Aparel from 1943 - 51.
She returned to Detroit Lakes in 1951 and worked at the L. J. Norby Co. until retiring in 1970.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Miss Lindner belonged to the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), formerly belonged to the Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPWC) and also to the Women’s Division of the Detroit Lakes Chamber of Commerce. She also did volunteer work for the RSVP program at Emmanuel Nursing Home and at the Detroit Lakes Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving are a niece, a nephew and a sister - in - law - Stella Land, Detroit Lakes. There are five great nieces and nephews and nine great - great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers (Arthur and Edwin) and a sister (Elsie Ziegler).

Naomi A. Derstine
Sept. 13, 1908 - Aug. 8, 2000
Naomi A. Derstine, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, from the West - Kjos Chapel in Detroit Lakes.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Naomi Groff, daughter of Allen and Mary Alderfer Groff, was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Souderton, Pa., grew up there and attended school in Hatfield, Pa.
On May 8, 1926, she and Willis A. Derstine were married in Souderton.
They moved with their family to Strawberry Lake, northeast of Detroit Lakes, in 1953 to assist their son (Gerald) in missionary work on the White Earth Reservation.
Mrs. Derstine worked as a housekeeper at the Strawberry Lake Christian Retreat Family Camp.
The Derstines moved into Detroit Lakes in 1974 and retired in 1988. Mr. Derstine died in 1991.
Surviving are three sons - Durell (Thelma) Derstine, Detroit Lakes; Gerald (Beulah) Derstine, Bradenton, Fla., and Willis (Susan) Derstine, Sarasota, Fla.; a sister - Stella Ruth, Souderton, Pa., and three brothers - Henry Groff, Sumneytown, Pa.; Reinert Groff, Harleysville, Pa., and Stanley Groff, Hatfield, Pa. There are 11 grandchildren and 25 great - grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Derstine also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation: One hour prior to service at West - Kjos Chapel.

Robert Duke McCloskey
March 15, 1961 - Aug. 9, 2000
Robert Duke McCloskey, 39, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, at his home in Park Rapids.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, from the Jones - Pearson Chapel in Park Rapids, with Rev. Dan Babine officiating.
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, with the Jones - Pearson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were David McCloskey, Scott Vareberg, John Dumont, Tim Noteboom, Tom Paris and Cliff Adkins.
The honorary pallbearers were Stephanie McCloskey, Mitch Erickson, Constence Erickson, Lindsey McCloskey and Michelle McCloskey.
Robert McCloskey, son of David L. and Edeltrud Franz McCloskey, was born at Albuquerque, N. M., on March 15, 1961.
He attended schools worldwide as a military dependent, competed in wrestling in junior high school, enjoyed all sports and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1979).
Mr. McCloskey and Debra Noteboom were married on Jan. 30, 1999, and lived in Park Rapids.
He worked as a mechanic at Lamb Weston RDO and later was a forklift driver at Americold.
Mr. McCloskey enjoyed repairing cars.
Surviving are his wife - Debra McCloskey, Park Rapids; three children - Stephanie, Lindsey and Michelle McCloskey; two step - children - Mitchell and Connie Erickson; a brother - David (Heather) McCloskey, and his parents - David and Edeltrud McCloskey, Detroit Lakes.

L. Dean Mischke
Nov. 1, 1938 - Aug. 10, 2000
L. Dean Mischke, 61, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, where he had resided since March of this year.
The funeral was at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating.
Interment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Waubun, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
L. Dean Mischke, son of Theodore and Cora Kjolberg Mischke, was born Nov. 1, 1938, at Waubun.
He grew up and attended school at Waubun and married Donna Barta at Waubun in 1957.
They lived in Lake Park, where he worked as a carpenter and, for a short time, operated his own construction company. They later moved to Marshall, where he worked for the Harvester Silo Co.
Mr. Mischke and Anna Haugen were married at Sisseton, S. D., in 1987.
At one time, he was active in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park and also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife - Anna; a daughter - Paula (Robert) Schanilec, Northfield; two sons - Donald Mischke, Fargo, and Brian (Lynette) Mischke, Horace, N. D., and three brothers - Theodore Mischke Jr., Randolph; Leslie (Roberta) Mischke, Waubun, and Curtis Mischke, Grand Forks, N. D. There are seven grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Mr. Mischke was preceded in death by his parents, a son (Loren) and two brothers (Murry and Terry).

Hazel E. Peterson.
Feb. 28, 1906 - Aug. 10, 2000
Services were at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, from Esther Lutheran Church, rural Parkers Prairie, for Hazel E. Peterson.
Mrs. Peterson, 94, died Thursday, Aug. 10, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, where she had been a resident since July 16, 1996.
Rev. Kenneth D. Thiele officiated at the funeral, Inez Haase was the organist and the soloist was Brian Budahn.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Michael Inwards, Curtis Inwards, Robert Inwards, Douglas Inwards, Christopher Inwards, Matthew Inwards and Bruce Inwards.
Hazel Rhodes, daughter of Christopher and Grace Bruse Rhodes, was born Feb. 28, 1906, in Appleton and moved with her family to Eagle Bend, where she grew up and graduated from high school.
On Nov. 20, 1926, she and Philip Peterson were married in Parkers Prairie and farmed near Parkers Prairie until 1956.
The Petersons lived in Fergus Falls and Fargo before moving to Detroit Lakes, where they spent their retirement years. She had lived in Detroit Lakes for the past 30 years.
Surviving are a son - Boyd Peterson, Detroit Lakes; two daughters - Harriet Heinecke and Jeanette (Keith) Inwards, both Detroit Lakes, and a brother - Warren Rhodes, Park Rapids. There are 14 grandchildren, 14 great - grandchildren and four great - great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Peterson in death were her parents, her husband (who died June 16, 1995), a brother (Harvey) and a sister (Mabel).

Lillian Emma Sonnenberg
Jan. 20, 1912 - Aug. 15, 2000
Lillian Emma Sonnenberg, 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the Frazee Care Center.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vergas, with the Rev. Michael Wolters officiating.
Interment will be at the church Cemetery, with the Furey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lillian Emma Mielke, daughter of Rudolph and Amalia Braun Mielke, was born at Frazee on Jan. 20, 1912.
She moved with her family at the age of three to Vergas, where she was raised and attended school.
On Nov. 4, 1930, she and Gustav Sonnenberg were married in Vergas. They farmed near Vergas following their marriage.
Surviving are a daughter - Ardelle Anderson, Morris; a son - DuWayne (Sylvia), Frazee, and a brother - Emil (Ann) Mielke, New York Mills. There are nine grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Sonnenberg in death were her husband (who died March 23, 1983), her parents, three brothers and a son - in - law (Milton Anderson).
Visitation: Friday, Aug. 18, 4 - 8 p.m., Furey Funeral Home in Vergas.
