Bruce Gnad
Aug. 9, 1970 - Aug. 5, 2000
Services were at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, from Zion Lutheran Church in Ada for Bruce Gnadt.
Mr. Gnadt, 29, Moorhead, died Saturday, Aug. 5, at Dakota Heartland Hospital in Fargo.
Interment was at the Ada Municipal Cemetery, with the Fredrikson - Erikson - Vik Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Bruce Robert Gnadt was born in Minneapolis on Aug. 9, 1970, graduated from Ada High School (Class of 1988) and attended Valley City State University in North Dakota.
On July 21, 1995, Mr. Gnadt and Lisa Leiran were married in Ada.
Mr. Gnadt had a passion for athletics and enjoyed softball, basketball, golf, volleyball, hunting and fishing, as well as officiating athletic events.
He worked in construction for several years and most recently was employed by McIntosh and Associates in Fargo.
Surviving are his daughter - Amanda Gnadt and her mother - Lisa; his father - Dennis Gnadt, Ada; his mother - Gerry (Michael) Seelye, Detroit Lakes; a brother - Jason Gnadt, Fargo; three sisters - Bobi Morse, Amy Gnadt and Lisa Gnadt, all residents of the Fargo - Moorhead area, and his grandparents - Jack and Delores Gnadt, Ada, and Dale and Ollie Hess, Ada. There are three nephews, three nieces and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sophia Anne Biermeier
Aug. 7, 2000 - Aug. 7, 2000
Sophia Anne Biermeier was born and died on Monday, Aug. 7, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center in Detroit Lakes.
There will be a private family service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, at the home of her parents, Nick and Lisa Biermeier.
Surviving are her parents; her maternal grandmother - Beverly D. Wilson, Detroit Lakes, and her paternal grandparents - Thomas and Margaret "Peg" Biermeier, Phoenix, Ariz. There are three aunts, three uncles and many cousins.
The West - Kjos Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gladys H. Johnson
Dec. 10, 1911 - Aug. 4, 2000
Gladys H. Johnson, 88, died Friday, Aug. 4, at the Frazee Care Center, where she had been a resident since February, 1996.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, from the United Methodist Church in Frazee, with the Rev. Barbara Bolz officiating.
Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee, with the Furey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Helena Nielson, daughter of Simon and Hannah Nielsen Nielson, was born in Rutland, Ia., on Dec. 10, 1911.
She moved, at the age of four, with her parents to Hope, N. D., where she was raised. She attended school at Blabon, N. D.
On Oct. 6, 1937, she and Melvin Johnson were married in Finley, N. D.
They farmed near Hope until June, 1952, and then moved to rural Frazee, where they continued farming until 1971 when they moved into Frazee. Mrs. Johnson worked at the Lakeland Turkey Plant in Frazee and also for Swift & Co. in Detroit Lakes.
A member of United Methodist Church, she also belonged to the United Methodist Women, Esther Circle, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Mother’s Club.
Surviving are two daughters - Darlene (Rolland) Mammenga, Duluth, and Doreen (Leonard) Schrandt, Frazee; a son - Duane (Judy), Frazee; five sisters - Beulah Damstetter, Viona (Vern) Messingham and Thelma Eversoll, all of Humboldt, Ia.; Delores Hoffman, Valley City, N. D., and LaDonna (Bill) Darby, South Folton, Tenn., and a brother - Maynard, Bremerton, Wash. There are five grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband (who died April 14, 1987), her parents and four brothers (Orville, Vincent, Verlin and Lowell).

Helen E. Johnson
June 22, 1909 - Aug. 4, 2000
Helen E. Johnson, 91, died Friday, Aug. 4, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, where she had resided since January, 1999.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from Immanuel Lutheran Church at Audubon.
Rev. Ernest Geistfeld officiated at the funeral, Robin Huseby was the organist and the soloist was Kim Schnitzer.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Dean Eilertson, Brian Eilertson, Steve Klongerbo, Donald Cahlin, Everett Mulcahy and Ervin Cahlin Jr.
The honorary pallbearers included Nicholas Eilertson, Kirk Eilertson, Brady Eilertson, Leesa Eilertson, Lindsey Eilertson, Craig Eilertson, Tiffany Klongerbo, Tara Klongerbo and Jenna Klongerbo.
Helen Cahlin, daughter of John and Emily Londeen Cahlin, was born in Hamden Township (rural Callaway) of Becker County on June 22, 1909.
She grew up and attended school near Callaway and married Robert W. Johnson at Fargo on Nov. 9, 1934.
They farmed at rural Audubon until 1970 and she continued to live on the farm until moving to Lamplighter Manor in Detroit Lakes in 1987 following the death of her husband.
Surviving are a daughter - Claudia (Roger) Eilertson, Audubon; a brother - Ervin (Ruby) Cahlin, Fargo, and a sister - Esther Tilley, Fort Worth, Tex. There are three grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son - Dean (who died in infancy), a great - grandson, her parents, a brother (Leonard Cahlin) and two sisters (Sally Syverson and Verna Rylander).

George Curtis Nunn III
Aug. 24, 1916 - March 30, 2000
There will be a graveside service at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 14, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes for George Curtis Nunn III.
Mr. Nunn, 83, died at Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday, March 30.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother (Donald).

Mary Lou Berg
Oct. 6, 1933 - July 31, 2000
Mary Lou Berg, 66, the wife of Bennett Berg, died at her home in Perham on Monday, July 31.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, from Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, with the Rev. Richard Kennedy officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Detroit Lakes, with the Schoeneberger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mary Lou Katzenberger, daughter of Henry and Rachel Baker Katzenberger, was born at Detroit Lakes on Oct. 6, 1933.
She graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1952) and - on May 22, 1954 - married Bennett Berg in Hibbing.
They lived in Hibbing, where she was bookkeeper at the F. W. Woolworth Store and where Mr. Berg was a baker at the Sunrise Bakery.
They moved to Montevideo in 1962 and purchased the Dutch Maid Bakery. They sold the business in 1973 and moved to Perham, where they owned and operated the Big Pine Resort on Big Pine Lake until 1987. They moved into their home at Rush Lake in 1987.
Mrs. Berg enjoyed crocheting and knitting and made afghans for each of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and traveling.
Surviving are her husband - Bennett; a daughter - Sue Ellen (Curtis) Winters, Montevideo; a son - Jeffrey (Nancy), Long Prairie; a sister - Beth Moe, Eau Claire, Wis., and a brother - Richard, Verndale, Wash. There are four grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mrs. Berg in death were her parents and a brother (Loren).
Visitation: Thursday, Aug. 3, Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham, 4 - 8 p.m., with prayer service at 7:30.

Beth L. Benewicz
Aug. 7, 1921 - Aug. 1, 2000
Beth L. Benewicz, 78, a longtime Detroit Lakes resident and the wife of Urban Benewicz, died at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo on Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, from the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, with Robert Melick officiating.
Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Beth Pasko, daughter of Harold and Martha Holt Pasko, was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Buffalo, N. Y.
She moved with her family to Chicago and then to Minneapolis, where she graduated from Minneapolis West High School. She attended Hamline University.
Beth Pasko and Urban Benewicz were married on April 5, 1942, in Monticello and lived at Owatonna, Ellendale, Morris and Pipestone before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1948.
Mrs. Benewicz served as president and secretary of the Detroit Lakes Camp Fire Girls organization from 1954 - 73, was active in the United Methodist Church, served as worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star (OES) and also was active in the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
Surviving are her husband - Urban, Detroit Lakes, and five daughters - Kristiane (George) Flaskerud, Fosston; Kay (Dale) Siebert, Wahpeton, N. D.; Karol (Dale) Knoblock, Waterloo, Ia.; Martha (Patricia Lane), New Auburn, Wis., and Benita (Philip) McNeill, ElDorado, Calif. There are eight grandchildren.
Preceding Mrs. Benewicz in death were her parents, a brother and a granddaughter.
Visitation: Thursday, Aug. 3, David - Donehower Funeral Home, 4 - 8 p.m. and one hour prior to funeral at United Methodist Church.

James A. Peichel
Aug. 3, 1941 - July 3, 2000
James A. Peichel, 58, died Monday, July 3, at his home at Frazee.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, from Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee.
Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee, with the Furey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
James Anthony Peichel, son of Anthony and Irene Mondry Peichel, was born Aug. 3, 1941, in Perham.
He was raised in Silver Leaf Township of Becker County (near Frazee), attended School District No. 90 in Silver Leaf Township and also attended Frazee High School.
After attending school, he entered the U. S. Army National Guard and served for six years.
On Sept. 8, 1962, James Peichel and LaVera Wendt were married at Corliss.
Mr. Piechel, who operated a dairy farm in Silver Leaf Township, served for 18 years on the Silver Leaf Town Board.
Surviving are his wife - LaVera, Frazee; a daughter - Debbie (Clayton) Renollet, Frazee; two sons - Dennis (Carla), Frazee, and Dean, Perham; a sister - Donna Espinal, Concord, Calif., and two brothers - LeRoy (Patricia) and Donald (Kathy), both Frazee. There are three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a son (Derek).
Visitation: Wednesday, July 5, Furey Funeral Home in Frazee, 4 - 8 p.m., with prayer service at 7:30.
