Earl T. McIntire
James McIntire of Proctor is saddened by the loss of his brother Earl T. McIntire. He died Fri., June 7, 2002 at Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. He was 81.

He attended schools in Carlton, and Hibbing Community College. Earl served in the Army during World War II, where he earned a number of ribbons and medals. Earl was employed with Carlton County as a surveyor for 25 years.

He is also survived by his wife Lois, a daughter, four sisters, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Interment was at New Calvary Cemetery, Cloquet. Full military honors were accorded by the Cloquet Honor Guard.

Jane Anne Russell
Jane Anne Russell of Saginaw succumbed to cancer Thurs., June 6, 2002 in a Duluth hospital. She was 66.

She was born in Duluth. After her childhood, Jane moved to Saginaw.

Jane is survived by her sons Eugene Jr. (Dawn) and Scott (Jean), both of Saginaw, daughters Victoria of Proctor, Leslie (Chap) Korman of Texas, Kelly of Saginaw, and Nicki (Curt) Larson of Saginaw, eight grandchildren, brothers Michael (Eloise) Ciaccio of Ala., Tony (Jeanette) Ciaccio of Saginaw, three aunts, an uncle, and her best friend, dog Bailey.

Marion Elizabeth “Jake” Jacobson
Shirley Anderson of Proctor is mourning the death of her sister, Marion Elizabeth “Jake” Jacobson. She died Fri., May 31, 2002 in a Duluth nursing home. She was 86.

The Duluth resident was born in Brainerd, Minn. She retired in 1980 after 20 years at St. Mary’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide.

She is also survived by three daughters, a son, two brothers, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.

Arthur “Art” A. Tessier
Thomas Tessier of Proctor is mourning the death of his father, Arthur “Art” A. Tessier, 80. He died Tues., June 4, 2002 in a Duluth hospital.

He was born in Duluth. He was an Army Veteran of WW II. He saw action on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He earned two Purple Hearts. He was held as a prisoner of war in Germany for nine months. His brother Ludger was in the division that freed him. He married Mary Hope Gilbert in Duluth.

He is also survived by his wife Mary “Hope”, another son, two daughters, two brothers, four sisters, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Park.

John W. Moran, Sr.
Services were held Tuesday for John W. Moran, Sr. The lifelong Proctor resident died Sat., June 15 in Duluth. He was 92.

John was born Dec. 14, 1909 in Proctor to William and Anna Moran. Mr. Moran was employed by the DM&IR Railroad for 43 years. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for 64 years, where he held the position of treasurer for 43 years. He also had the honor of being the oldest member of the congregation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Margaret Ahlin, and his brothers Edward, Frank, William and Joseph.

John is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 66 years Irene, whom he married on March 28, 1936 in Proctor; his children Darlene (Erald) Choate of Torrance, Calif., Joann (Gerry) Gustafson of Danbury, Wis. and John (Karen) Moran, Jr. of Pike Lake, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, his sister Lillian (Arthur) Gilderman of Scanlon, Minn., and brothers Wilbert of Proctor and George (Vivian) of Cloquet. The family extends their grateful appreciation to the staff of Lakeshore Lutheran Home for their loving care of John and the family.

Services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proctor. The Rev. Mark A. Osthus officiating. Entombment was at Sunrise Memorial Park in Hermantown. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 614 Second St., Proctor, Minn. 55810.

Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Hazelle (Oswell) Sheehy
Clayton Oswell of Pike Lake is mourning the death of his mother Hazelle (Oswell) Sheehy. She died Sun., Jun. 9, 2002 in Cloquet. She was 79.

Hazelle was born in McGregor, Minn. She worked for Diamond Brands in Cloquet. Hazelle was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Nicholson Sellgren VFW Post 2962 of Carlton.

Hazelle is also survived by two brothers, two sisters, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet.

Jonah Thomas Schwartz
Services were held earlier this week for Jonah Thomas Schwartz of Saginaw. He was born and died June 13, 2002 in a Duluth hospital.

Jonah is survived byhis parents Terri (Wedin) and Jason Schwartz, grandparents Grant and Cathy Schwartz, Gordy and Tommi Wedin, great-grandparents George and Marie Head and Stanley Sawyer, uncle Bryan (Autumn) Schwartz, aunts Laura and Sarah Schwartz and Traci (Brian) Thoreson. Jonah will be greatly missed by his cousins Madeline and Matthew Schwartz and Abbi, Tyler and Trevor Thoreson.

Burial was at Calvary Cemetery.

Myrtle E. Nelson
Myrtle E. Nelson, who was the Canyon Postmaster and later the Postal Clerk in Twig until her retirement, died Wed., July 3, 2002 in Duluth. She was 96.

She was born in Ashland, Wisc. on April 1, 1906. She grew up in Hibbing and Zim and lived in Duluth most of her adult life. She also resided in Virginia and Canyon where she and her husband owned and operated the Canyon store. She was a member of Elim Lutheran Church and its Mary Martha Circle.

She is survived by her daughters Charlotte Erdahl of Duluth, Carolyn (Robert) Maxwell of St. Peter, Minn., and Mildred (Jack) Caldwell of Austin, Texas, ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Sunrise Memorial Park. Arrange-ments were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Violet V. Perkins
Violet V. Perkins of Saginaw died Wed., July 3, 2002 in a Duluth hospital. She was 77.

Born in Virginia, Minn., she married George Perkins on May 23, 1946. They have six children. She retired from the Cook Home as a Food Service Worker. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing on the pontoon, family meals, her garden, and sitting around a campfire.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Bill.

She is survived by her husband George, children Dale (Claudia), Duane, Bruce, Bobbi (Mike) Maish, Ron, and Keith (Gail), 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements for a memorial service are pending by Fred Olson Mortuary.

Mabel L. Anderson
Norma Gerard of Pike Lake is mourning the death of her mother, Mabel L. Anderson. The former Carlton resident died in Wrenshall Thurs., July 4, 2002 at the age of 96.

She was born Dec. 14, 1905 in Wisc. She graduated from Denfeld High School in 1924. Mabel worked as a private secretary for Mr. Barnes at Kelly Howe Thompson and after her marriage to Norman Anderson on Oct. 6, 1926, she became the first married lady to work for the company. She left there in 1928 and worked with her husband at the Lakeview Dairy in Esko, which they owned until 1939. She worked at Crystal's Finer Foods in Duluth from 1942 until retiring in 1967. Mabel was a charter member of Northwood United Methodist Church in Esko, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of Liberty Duluth Chapter, Esko TOPS and she received her KOPS recognition.

Mabel is also survived by a son Norman Russell (Janice) Anderson, Jr. of Duluth, 12 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery.

Clarence Edward Larson
Clarence Edward Larson died Sun., June 30, 2002, at his Proctor home. He was 88.

He was born in Pine City, Minn. on May 19, 1914. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, and from 1941 to 1977 he worked for Diamond Tool and Horseshoe Company as a foreman. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Proctor.

Surviving are his wife Bernice Larson of Proctor, a daughter Gloria Borst of Hermantown, and a granddaughter Robyn Borst of Proctor.

Ray Morrison, Jr.
Ray Morrison, Jr. of Duluth died on Mon., July 15, 2002 at Viewcrest Health Center. He was 80.

Ray was born on April 30, 1922 in Osage, Wyoming to Raynor and Loretta (Scott) Morrison, Sr. He married DeLoris Nelson in 1945. Ray served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He worked for U.S. Steel and served as vice president for local #1028 Steelworkers Union, retiring upon their closing. He served on the original board of directors for the Spirit Mountain Authority and was the on-site manager for the Gary Demolition Landfill. He was very active in the DFL Party serving on committees with Orville Freeman, John Blatnik, Hubert H. Humphrey and James Oberstar. Ray was on the committee that escorted John F. Kennedy when he visited Duluth.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife in 1989, and his brother Bernard.

He is survived by daughters Bonnie (Chuck) Patrick of Minong, Wis., Linda (Tom) Peterson of Hermantown, and Lori (Garry) Morrison of Puyallup, Wash., ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three sisters, and a brother.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Fri., July 19, 2002 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue in Duluth.
