Lawrence F. Noll
Feb. 24, 1916 - July 1, 2000
Lawrence F. Noll, 84, died Saturday, July 1, at St. Mary’s Nursing Center, where he had been a resident the past year - and - a - half.
The funeral was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence Frank Noll, son of Peter and Anna Wolschlager Noll, was born at Detroit Lakes on Feb. 24, 1916.
He grew up here, attended Holy Rosary School and then attended St. John’s Prep at Collegeville.
After attending St. John’s Prep, he farmed for a number of years near Detroit Lakes and - on May 1, 1943 - married Elizabeth "Betty" Hansen in Detroit Lakes.
They farmed near Detroit Lakes and he also worked for the Detroit Lakes - Fargo Ice Co. before moving to Gary, Ind., in 1956.
He worked as a millwright for the Youngstown Sheet and Tool Co. in East Chicago, Ind., until retiring in 1978 and returning to Detroit Lakes.
Mr. Noll was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, of the Holy Rosary Knights of Columbus and of the Detroit Lakes Eagles Club. He also bowled for the Knights of Columbus and Eagles teams.
Surviving are his wife - Betty, Detroit Lakes; two sons - Stephen (Kay), Detroit Lakes, and Curtis (Donna), Hawley; four daughters - Barbara (Tom) Hanlon, Detroit Lakes; Eileen (Tom) Reading, Rolling Meadows, Ill.; Susan (Mike) Crisp, Crown Point, Ind., and Kathy (Ed) LeFleur, Burns Harbor, Ind.; a brother - Vince (Donna) Nester, Detroit Lakes, and three sisters - Clara Friesen, Vergas; Delores Harmon, Mesa, Ariz., and Helen Knopf, Detroit Lakes. There are 16 grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.

Elizabeth A. "Liz" Schiller
Dec. 13, 1923 - June 29, 2000
Rites were at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 3, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes for Elizabeth A. "Liz" Schiller.
Mrs. Schiller, 76, the widow of Paul R. Schiller, died at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo on Thursday, June 29.
Fr. Jerry Rogers officiated at the funeral and music was by the Holy Rosary Music Ministry.
Interment was at Holy Rosary Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Matt Schiller, Anthony Schiller, Paul Gregersen, Milt Kraemer, Dick Ruegemer and John Jacoby.
Elizabeth McCarthy, daughter of Clarence and Catherine Fraser McCarthy, was born at Detroit Lakes on Dec. 13, 1923.
She grew up here, graduated from Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1941) and - on July 31, 1944 - married Paul R. Schiller in Detroit Lakes.
The Schillers took over the insurance agency owned by Mrs. Schiller’s father, with the name of the firm becoming Schiller Insurance in 1946. Upon the death of her husband on Sept. 11, 1970, Mrs. Schiller again became active in the insurance agency after spending many years at home raising her family.
Mrs. Schiller, who was proud of her Irish heritage, was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and of the Christian Mothers.
Surviving are four sons - Dave (Meg), Steve (Kay), Gerry (Linda) and Mike (Jackie), all Detroit Lakes; three daughters - Nancy (Dennis) Miley, Wadena, and Beth (Marv) Gregersen and Barb Grimsley, both Detroit Lakes; two brothers - Joe (Ethel) McCarthy, Albany, and Jim (Liz) McCarthy, Detroit Lakes, and three sisters - Mary Brandser, Hawley, and Rosemary Bliss and Pat Kraemer, both St. Cloud. There are 22 grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Schiller also was preceded in death by a daughter (who died in infancy), a grand - daughter, her parents, two sisters (Kate Jacoby and Marlene Ruegemer) and three brothers (George, Frank and Tom).

Myra Burlingame
Aug. 23, 1923 - June 30, 2000
Myra Burlingame, 76, the widow of James C. Burlingame, died at her home in Detroit Lakes on Friday, June 30.
The funeral was at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 3, from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jerry Rogers officiating. Music was by the Holy Rosary Music Ministry.
Interment was at the church Cemetery, with the West - Kjos Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Serving as the pallbearers were Aaron Burlingame, Tom Boock, Larry Mack, Henry Mack, Bill Stallman and Marie Burlingame.
Myra Halvorson, daughter of John and Mable Speten Halvorson, was born at Callaway on Aug. 23, 1923, grew up and attended school in the Shell Lake area of Becker County and then worked as a waitress at the Graystone Hotel in Detroit Lakes.
On June 1, 1949, she and James C. Burlingame were married in Ponsford.
She worked with her husband, who owned Murphy’s Bakery in Detroit Lakes from 1960 - 70.
A member of Jess - Omundson Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Detroit Lakes, Mrs. Burlingame enjoyed gardening, fishing and working crossword puzzles.
Surviving are four sons - James (Shelly), New Richmond, Wis.; Gary and Charles (Kathy), both Detroit Lakes, and Douglas, Flasher, N. D.; two brothers - Jack Halvorson, Detroit Lakes, and Walt (Helen) Halvorson, Ponsford, and three sisters - Mildred Boock and Shirley Sandberg, both Detroit Lakes, and Irene (Jim) Mack, Ponsford. There are nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Burlingame was preceded in death by her husband (who died May 30, 1996), a son (Greg), her parents, a brother (Philip Halvorson) and three sisters (Mae Schott, Goldie Thunstrom and LaVone Nugent).

Robert L. Moe
April 10, 1960 - June 26, 2000
Services were at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, from the David - Donehower Chapel in Detroit Lakes for Robert L. Moe.
Mr. Moe, 40, who had lived in Detroit Lakes since last December, died Monday, June 26, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident near Belle Plaine in Scott County.
Rev. Arthur Skoog officiated at the funeral.
Interment was at Woodland Cemetery at New York Mills, with the David - Donehower Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Robert Lee Moe was born at Munich, Germany, on April 10, 1960, and moved with his family as a child to the United States.
He attended school in Pennsylvania and then lived in the Philadelphia area until moving to Minnesota in 1989, where he worked as a home builder in various Minnesota towns.
On Aug. 7, 1990, Mr. Moe and Sharon Anderson were married in Bemidji and lived there, where he was employed as a carpenter. They moved to Shakopee in 1993 and then to Detroit Lakes late last year.
Mr. Moe enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and being outdoors.
Surviving are his wife - Sharon; a son - Michael Quickel, Gap, Pa.; a step - son - Chris Anderson, Burnsville; three daughters - Tiffany Rose Moe, at home, and Tracy and Bobbi Moe, both of Gap, Pa.; his father - Donald Moe, Cleveland, Ohio; his foster parents - Dave Hiel and Karen Hiel, Newcumberland, Pa.; a brother - Bernie Moe, Cleveland, Ohio; a sister - Suzanne Overling, Chaska, and his mother - in - law - Esther Anderson, Detroit Lakes. There are a number of nieces and nephews.

Orville A. Mayer
Oct. 4, 1927 - July 8, 2000
Orville A. Mayer, 72, a retired official of Snappy, Inc., in Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, July 8, at St. Mary’s Regional Health Center.
There was a memorial service on Monday, July 10, from the Furey Chapel in Frazee, with the Rev. William Aufdenkamp officiating.
Interment was at Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee, with the Furey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Orville Alfred Mayer, son of Alfred and Anne Nybo Mayer, was born at Bend, Ore., on Oct. 4, 1927.
He moved with his family to Frazee, where he attended school, graduated from Frazee High School (Class of 1945) and then served with the U. S. Marine Corps from June 23, 1945, to Aug. 19, 1946.
On March 31, 1949, Mr. Mayer and Clarice Bartel were married at Evergreen.
He joined Snappy, Inc., in 1957, worked his way up through the ranks and eventually served as president and general manager of the firm. Mr. Mayer received a number of employee awards.
A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee, he served on church boards and also was active in Frazee civic affairs. He served on the Frazee School Board and was a member of the Frazee unit of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife - Clarice, Frazee, and two daughters - Cheryl (Gene) Johnston, Albany, Ore., and Lori (Jerry) Warntjes, Burlington, Wis. There are five grandchildren and two step - grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Mayer in death were his parents, a daughter (Mary), a granddaughter and a step - grandson.

Eleanor C. Swenson
July 4, 1918 - July 7, 2000
Eleanor C. Swenson, 82, the widow of Gustav A. "Gus" Swenson, died at Emmanuel Nursing Home on Friday, July 7, where she had been a resident since June.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 14, from Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth E. Vollmers officiating. Pat Benson will be the organist and the soloist will be Leah Geistfeld.
Interment will be at Eksjo Lutheran Cemetery west of Lake Park.
Eleanor C. Pfeifer, daughter of Fredrick and Nellie Pfeifer, was born at Lake Park on July 4, 1918.
She and Gustav Swenson were married at Lake Park on Jan. 1, 1938.
A longtime Detroit Lakes resident, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a daughter - Annette Geistfeld, Tucson, Ariz., and a brother - Forest Pfeifer, Detroit Lakes. There are three grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Preceding Mrs. Swenson in death were her husband (who died in November, 1987) and a son (W. Fredrick).
Memorials: Preferred to Trinity Lutheran music program.

Adeline Utke
June 15, 1911 - July 6, 2000
Adeline Utke, 89, died Thursday, July 6, at St. Joseph Care Center in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Adeline Schoessow, daughter of Richard and Emma Schoessow, was born June 15, 1911, in Chaffee, N. D.
She married Howard Utke on Nov. 27, 1935.
Mrs. Utke had lived in North Dakota her entire life until spending the last six months as a resident of Florida.
Surviving are two sons - Gene Utke, Arcadia, Fla., and Jay Utke, Rochert, and three brothers - John Schoessow, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Glenn Schoessow, Gainsville, Fla., and Earl Schoessow, Sun City, Ariz. There are five grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, who died March 11, 1966.
Interment was at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Embden, N. D.
The Paul Schmidt Funeral Home of Port Charlotte, Fla., had charge of arrangements.
