Hazel A. Vadnais
Ted Vadnais of Proctor is mourning the death of his mother, Hazel A. Vadnais. She died Thurs., July 11, 2002 in Deer River. She was 92.

Hazel is survived by a daughter, three other sons, a sister, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Burial was in the Itasca-Calvary Cemetery in Grand Rapids.

Anita P. Twite
Debra Bellefeuille of Proctor is mourning the death of her mother Anita P. Twite. The Eveleth resident died Tues., July 9, 2002 in Duluth. She was 84.

She was born in Crookston, Minn. She married Ralph B. Twite in 1939 in Grand Forks, ND. She was a longtime Eveleth resident, and was a member of the United in Christ Lutheran Church, Esther Circle, Eveleth Does and the Eveleth Senior Citizens.

She is survived by two sons, another daughter, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment was in Eveleth Cemetery.

Dolly E. Hoffman
Services were held late last week for Dolly E. Hoffman. She died Tues., July 16, 2002 in Duluth. She was 73.

Dolly was born in 1928 in Virginia, and had lived in various cities before becoming a Virginia resident in 1942. She was a graduate of Proctor High School. She married Oswald J. 'Ozzie' Hoffman in 1947 in Duluth. She was a homemaker. Dolly was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oswald in 1998, infant daughter Agnes Rose in 1962, and a sister Billie McKenzie in 1996.

She is survived by daughters Melody (Tony) Chopp of Virginia and Dolly (Lee) Hawley of Eveleth, sons Roger of Virginia, Greg (Jackie) of Lake Vermilion, Cook and Ozzie Jr. (Cindy) of Kimberly, Wis., nine grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Virginia.

Twyla L. Freeman Wosmek-Oestriech
Sharon (Wayne) Finifrock-Johnson is mourning the death of her mother Twyla L. Freeman Wosmek-Oestriech. She died in her Duluth home Wed., July 24, 2002. She was 80.

She was born in Cloquet to Hurley and Mable (Martin) Freeman. Twyla loved to camp at Round Lake. She worked as a waitress for many establishments, and was a receptionist for Cap and YWCA.

She is also survived by seven other children, Sandra (Harry) Kyrola of Milwaukee, Wis., Terry (Deloros) Wosmek of Duluth, Peggy (Bob) Floding of Duluth, Barb (John) Campion of Eagan, Dale (Darlene) Wosmek of Saginaw, Janet Mullens of Las Vegas, and Randy (Julie) Wosmek of Duluth, 22 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, ten step-great-grandchildren, five brothers, two sisters, many nieces and nephews, and her special friend Carolyn.

At Twyla's request, there will be no services. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Shirley C. Forshaw
Shirley C. Forshaw, who was born in Proctor, died Fri., July 26, 2002 in Duluth. She was 70.

She was born in 1931 in Proctor to Peder and Ingrid Hansen. She married Robert Forshaw in 1952. She worked as a beautician at Maddies Beauty Shop. Shirley was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her son Gary of Duluth, a daughter Nancy Forshaw of Proctor, and a brother Lloyd Hansen of Hermantown.

Interment was in Oneota Cemetery.

Bradley R. Liubakka
Bradley R. Liubakka lost his five year battle with A.L.L. (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on his 19th birthday Fri., July 26, 2002. He died in Rochester, Minn.

Brad was a 2002 graduate of Proctor High School.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Raymond and Laila Autio.

Brad is survived by his parents Brian and Sheila (Autio) Liubakka of Duluth, a sister Janine Liubakka of Duluth, grandparents Richard and Elma Liubakka of Negaunee, Mich., grandmother Linnea Autio of Cromwell, many friends, family, and a host of believers in Faith.

Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Van Buren Township, Minn.

Stella B. Teetz
Inez DeFoe is saddened by the death of her sister Stella B. Teetz. She died Thurs., July 25, 2002 in Duluth. She was 97.

She was born in Blue Earth, Minn. in 1904. Her childhood was spent in various southern Minn. farming communities. She moved to Duluth in her late teens. She married Edward Teetz in Duluth in 1926. Stella was a homemaker. She was an active member of the former Holiness Methodist Church, which is currently the Haven Evangelical Church, and was involved in its Women's Circle and taught Sunday School.

Survivors also include three daughters, three other sisters, a brother-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Burial was in Oneota Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Matilda A. 'Tillie' Paulson
Roberta Johanson of Ontonagon, Mich., wife of Proctor native Bruce Johanson, is saddened by the death of her stepmother, Matilda A. 'Tillie' Paulson. She died Sat., Aug. 3, 2002 in a Duluth hospital. She was 86.

The former Lindahl Road resident was born in Superior, Wis. She was an area resident most of her life.

She married Robert C. Paulson on July 24, 1972. She had been employed by Western Electric Co. and by Mac's Grocery. She was a sales clerk at the J.C. Penney Co. for many years, retiring in 1973. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her husband Robert of the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth, a son, two daughters, a former daughter-in-law, another stepdaughter, a stepson, two sisters, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Franklin H. Dickson III
Franklin H. Dickson III, who grew up in Proctor and attended St. Rose grade school, to become a nationally known trainer and consultant in asbestos management, died Thurs., Aug. 8. He was 61.

The White Bear Lake resident was born in Oak Park, Ill. to Dr. Franklin H. and Anne Dickson. He attended St. Thomas and the University of Minnesota Duluth, for his bachelor's degree. Frank worked for Reserve Mining Company, designing and executing environmental research programs. Following Reserve, Frank attended the University of Minnesota Duluth campus and received a master's degree in safety and industrial hygiene. Frank began his industrial hygiene career with one of the first asbestos abatement contractors in the Midwest, Dunsheath Construction. He left Dunsheath having become its general manager to become a senior industrial hygienist with Applied Environmental Sciences in 1987. During his tenure in this position Frank become a nationally known trainer and consultant in the area of asbestos management. Frank was a board certified industrial hygienist and a full member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. Locally, Frank was a very well known and liked safety and health professional advising a wide variety of institutions. Frank had many interests. Among these were his love of nature, especially in the North woods, Lake Superior and the Brule River. His happiest hours were spent with a camera and his fishing rod. He excelled at gourmet cooking and loved to read. For many years he was a ham radio operator with the call sign WDOCBJ.

Frank is survived by his wife of 32 years Jean, daughter Anne, his mother, Anne, brothers John and Thomas (Collette), sisters Victoria (Brian) Blauer and Deborah (Scott) McCleod, four nephews and four nieces.

Private family interment.

Raissa Petrovna Copiskey
Services were held last week for Raissa Petrovna Copiskey, who had been a Proctor resident for 57 years. She died Wed., Aug. 7, 2002 in a Duluth hospital. She was 78.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1923, in Russia and the family moved to Canada in 1928. She married Stanley M. Copiskey on June 23, 1945 in Canada. She was a member of the White Shrine, where she was a High Priestess; Daughters of the Nile, where she was Past Queen; and also a Cub Scout Den Mother. She loved to garden, travel, cross-stitch, and oil paint. She was a great cook and a flower nut.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Nadezda (Nellie) Prisiazniuk Horbatiuk.

She is survived by her husband Stanley, daughter Raissa Poire of Sweet Water, Tenn., sons Stanley (Char) Gerald of Saginaw and Thomas Richards (Karen) of Duluth, a sister Lydia DeYoung of Rochester, a half-sister, Julie Semchuk of England; a sister-in-law, Lois (Jack) Rowe of Saginaw; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Inurnment was in Sunrise Memorial Park. Arrangements were made by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.

John Patrick McKinnon
Services will be held today, Thurs., for John Patrick McKinnon of Saginaw. He died Sat., Aug. 10, 2002 at the age of 58.

He was born in Duluth to John Joseph and Evelyn (Bower) McKinnon, who preceded him in death.

John was an honorary member of the Blue Knights and a business partner of McKinnon Brothers Auto Parts and Repair. He enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, fishing and working with the kids on their stock cars.

He is survived by his wife Jan, sons Jon (Garie) and Joseph, daughters Kim Keil, Stacey McKinnon and Dawn (Aaron) Pellett, his stepmother June McKinnon, five grandchildren, his best friend and brother Jerry (Wanda) McKinnon, brother Ronald (Susan) McKinnon, sister Nancy (Lonnie) Golen, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
