The appreciation for the wild native flowers in the country school yard, playing guard in basketball and winning first place in the Arispe Consolidated School declamatory contest helped her to prepare for advanced studies. Often as she looked back at the early years pleasant memories from teaching children in the New Hartford, Iowa, grade school gave her a special joy.
