Arnold Carlson, 90, Two Harbors, died peacefully at home on Friday, Sept. 24, 2004.

He was born Aug. 4, 1914, to John and Bertha (Anderson) Carlson in Two Harbors. Other than his three years of military service, he was a life-long resident of the Two Harbors-Silver Creek area.

He attended school in Silver Creek and later Two Harbors High School. After the premature death of his father, as the oldest of his siblings, he took on the role of supporting the family. He was employed at Beckman’s Pontiac Garage, Trico-Coop Oil and the City of Two Harbors in the street department, plumbing department and as a city carpenter. He retired from the City of Two Harbors after 24 years of service.

During World War II he served in the European Theatre in the U.S. Army’s Fifth Armored Division as a sergeant in charge of small arms maintenance.

Arnold married Margaret Ohlund on June 21, 1947. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. He loved the out-of-doors and was an avid sportsman, trapper, hunter and fisherman.

Other hobbies included woodworking and vegetable gardening. He made and gave away many burl and tree-ring faced clocks. Being self sufficient in his projects, he built a cabin in Silver Creek--felling the trees, sawing them into lumber, then constructing the cabin with a hand saw since there was no electricity available for power tools.

He lived with his mom and step-dad Brad Tufto in Bloomington, Laramie, Wy., Nome, Alaska, and Juneau, Alaska. He graduated from Juneau Douglas High School in 1994. He was an extremely creative guy always working on art projects and also enjoyed snow-boarding, skate boarding, fixing cars, interior decorating and landscaping. He loved to work in coffee shops and became certified in Barista where he could laugh and socialize with people which was Jamie's favorite thing to do. He got great joy from just hanging out with his family and friends and never missed a family gathering.

In 2001 he married the love of his life, Leslie. They lived in Juneau, Alaska, Duluth and Bloomington. In February 2004, their beautiful daughter Greta was born and Jamie's goal was to be the best Daddy ever. We will always remember the smile he had for everyone, his heart of gold, his big shoulder to cry on and a belly laugh that would warm your soul.

He loved his family and friends deeply and he will be sadly missed by all. The Lord has comforted us with the scripture John 11: 25 and 26. "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" Jamie did believe in Him and had a soft heart for the scriptures and prayers. We believe Jesus is telling us that Jamie lives. Praise God!
